Think of this being set in a similar universe to zgod's: ATLAM: Water and Desire – Writing this with the character's original ages would be awkward and weird because they're children; so, I aged them up.
Aang: 18 – Katara: 17 – Sokka: 18
Cave of Two Lovers:
"So, all you need is to trust in love to get through these caves?"
The nomad-hippie nodded, "Yep, that's right my friend."
Katara turned back around and eyed the airbender carefully; love, desire and longing tempting her to make a move to let the teenager know how she felt about him. However, his back was still to her – the smoke and sound of Fire Nation tanks in the distance was on the forefront of his mind in that moment.
'If we trust in love…' – Katara wondered.
She had no doubt that what was previously a simple, girlish crush, originating from the day she freed him from the iceberg, after travelling the world with him, fighting with him, laughing with him, crying with him… she was sure that her rather large crush had now transformed into something much deeper and meaningful. Something that made her heart flutter and stop beating all together when he so much as flashed a smile in her general direction, and something that set her core ablaze, and enveloped her in the greatest insatiable passion and carnal need for him whenever his many muscles flexed as they waterbended together.
Just earlier this morning, while Katara taught him how to perfect the octopus stance, she had to forcibly plant her feet to stop herself from leaping at him and having her way with him while he was half naked. Needless to say, despite her self-control, it seemed that even she faltered at times as she just couldn't help herself when she strode over and glided her hands across his large biceps and forearms – the excuse of fixing his stance often came in handy during her weak moments.
Katara shook her head and refocused – staring at Aang's almost bare back would do her no good in the current moment. Deciding that she had to trust in her feelings for him and hoping that he too felt the same so something could be made of this detour, Katara turned back around – determination and hope burning in her eyes as she informed her friends.
"We can make it," she stated firmly, walking inside along with the nomads while Aang and Sokka followed behind them. "Everyone get inside!"
Making their way inside, Katara chose to stay close to Aang – well, it was more of a subconscious habit rather than a thought-out decision; she'd normally find herself by his side, inches away, regularly these days. About halfway through the entrance, Aang turned around as he had noticed movement behind them. Sensing the danger, he pushed forward and sent a giant blast of air towards one of the three tanks that were attempting to block the entrance. His attack managed to destroy one tank, the other two however, had already hooked onto the terrain above and had brought it crashing against the entrance before Aang could do anything else.
Seeing as they were now trapped, Katara tended to an upset and anxious Appa while Aang and Sokka analysed their surroundings, Momo hidden in his airbender robes thst only covered half his chest.
"Don't w-worry Appa," Katara faltered for another moment, slightly jealous of Momo as he was curled up between Aang's strong and hard chest and his warm robes like a joey in a mother kangaroo's pouch, "We'll make it out, I hope so."
"We will make it out," Aang stated firmly, yet his lips curled upwards into a small reassuring smile when his eyes met her sapphire orbs, thus causing her to blush somewhat.
Determined, Sokka perched himself up onto Appa's saddle and retrieved some blank scrolls. "I'm gonna make a map so we can keep track of where we've been." He stated, jumping back down beside Katara and Aang as he began eyeing the terrain while also mapping it down. "That way we can keep track of where we've been and get through eventually."
As they began walking, with darkness following them from behind as well as mystifying their path ahead, Katara couldn't help but sneak a couple glances at Aang.
She bit her lip.
Something about Aang being displayed – barely – in dim lighting, turned her on more than she could imagine. She had noticed before; all those late nights in the wilderness, sitting by the campfire, telling stories and joking around with him in an attempt to hide how flustered she was by the way the fire touched him. She couldn't fully comprehend it – maybe it was the way the dim light casted shadows upon him, mystifying him as the unknown while also highlighting the parts of him she could barely ignore beforehand: his hard pectoral, his sharp jawline, his broad shoulders and strong arms… the torch only further heightened her awareness of the way they flexed now. And it became achingly difficult to preserve her carnal need for him now more so than before.
"Sokka, this is the tenth dead end you've led us to," Aang pulled her out of her daze as he eyed Sokka in sympathy, noticing the way he was scrambling with his maps.
"This doesn't make any sense," Sokka stated, turning back around to regard Aang, his siter and the other nomads as he turned away from the rubble that was now blocking the entrance. "We've already come through this way."
"We don't need a map, we just need love," Chong the nomad stated, sounding high as a kite as he pointed towards Katara. "The girl knows it."
Blushing from embarrassment when Sokka and Aang eyed her, surprised, Katara cleared her throat as she glanced away shyly, unwilling to meet Aang's shimmering eyes and his knowing smirk. "Y-Yeah, but I wouldn't mind a map also."
"Something strange is going on here," Sokka observed, turning his back to the dark narrow path behind him before the rumbling began. "There's only one explanation: the tunnel's changing."
A rumble interrupted the tense silence. Everyone braced themselves and glanced around nervously, preparing themselves for anything as the ground beneath them and the walls surrounding them began shaking. Suddenly, as the shaking halted, Katara heard something in the distance and placed her index finger upon her lips, signalling Sokka to be quiet and for Momo to end his chittering.
"Do you guys hear that?" She asked, eyes furrowing towards the dark, and what she originally thought, empty pathway as they all focused on it warily.
After a few moments of anticipation, a snarl from an unknown entity disturbed the silence before it revealed itself. Flying in dangerously close, Sokka ducked as the entity missed him, flying past him and attempting to intimidate everyone else.
"It's a giant flying thing with teeth!" Chong shrieked, falling to the ground as he avoided the creature's attack.
"No! That's a wolf-bat!" Another one of the nomads alerted as it once again leapt towards them, swooping in to capture Momo who was now in Katara's arms while Sokka swung his torch at it. When it dived in again, Sokka swung a little too hard which resulted in him loosing his grip on the torch. Thus, it landed on one of Appa's feet who groaned in pain.
"Appa, relax buddy," Aang tried to calm him down, but the bison was already jumping and stomping around the terrain, which actually scared the wolf-bat away but also lead to him smashing himself against the walls of the cave.
As the barely stable roof above them came crashing down, Aang leapt forward, creating and sending a massive gush of wind towards Sokka and the nomads, thus sending them flying backwards as they would've been crashed if he hadn't. Noticing they were safe, he turned back around and sensed that neither he nor Katara were in the clear yet. So, he desperately sprinted towards her and collected her in his arms, thus leaping and tackling the both of them to the ground before they were crush beneath the rubble.
"Urgh," Aang groaned in annoyance as he kneeled before Katara, helping her up as he asked, "Are you okay?" Sensing that he had used more force than necessary, Aang began searching her arms for bruises or scratches before he turned to analyse her face for the same. "You're not hurt, are you?" He asked, oblivious to Katara's blush.
Her heart melted at his concern – the way his tender touch grazed her cheeks while he searched her in concern almost welled her eyes with tears; hope that he cared for her just as deeply as she cared for him ignited a fire in her soul as she took both his hands in hers and smiled at him sweetly, ignoring the crimson shade her cheeks had taken in as she doubted he could recognise it in the dim lighting.
"I'm okay, Aang," she whispered, unknowingly rubbing his knuckles with the pad of her thumbs as she spoke, "Thanks for the save."
He smiled back, "Don't mention it…" he trailed off, helping her up on her feet as his concern returned. "You sure you're not hurt? I tackled you down pretty hard there," he observed, rubbing the back of his neck nervously as he glanced away in thought.
Warmed by his concern once again, Katara squeezed his hands in return, gesturing she truly was okay, "I'm fine, Aang, really."
Sadly smiling back, Aang nodded, before he turned towards the new layer of rubble before them, thus missing the loving side-glance Katara had offered him as he asked, "So, what now?"
As they entered the tomb, with the torch Katara was holding onto being their only source of light, the two benders wandered around until they noticed various pictures and texted carved into the walls. After analysing said carvings, which they now knew to be the tale of the founding of Omashu, Aang and Katara both blushed when they caught sight of a rather large sculpture of the two earthbenders kissing.
"Love is brightest… in the dark," Katara read out loud.
As Aang wondered around, pondering on what their next move was, a million ideas flooded Katara's head – one thought in particular was the centre piece from which all other notions were birth: Aang and Katara re-enacting Oma and Shu's passion. Immediately, alarms echoed in her head, alerting her to the possibility that if she suggested they do what she wanted, then the idea of him not feeling the same about her, at least romantically, may become a reality; something which she'd rather remain ignorant about. Yet, despite the clear warnings, Katara couldn't shake the possibility that if he did feel the same way, romantically and emotionally, then maybe she wouldn't have to hide her yearning for him any longer, and thus could revel in the silver lining this rather unpleasant and disappointing detour had to offer.
And she wouldn't mind being trapped in here for a few minutes or even hours if Aang could keep her busy.
She blushed and gripped onto her blue tunic, her knuckles whitening as she tried to control the heat burning deep within her when she visualised all the things they could get up to if Katara had the courage to take the first step. Though, its not like she hadn't tried to before; for the last several months, she had been trying to gain Aang's attention. She had gotten bitter and jealous when he showed more attention to those girls on Kyoshi Island and Suki rather than her, she flirted with Jet for the sole purpose of making him jealous, and she had tried multiple times to hint to him subtly that she had feelings for him, or that she was at least interested in him.
She figured: either he was the most oblivious Avatar that had ever lived, or he was simply too focused on the war and ending it to get side-tracked by romance. Yet, then again, there were all the lingering stares and touches, the 'I-know-we're-friends-but-I-wish-we-were-more' hugs, and all the blushing and stuttering when she'd compliment him or touch him in any way – not to mention his concern for her and the way he looked out for her, making sure her every need was attended to before they turned in for the night or prepared to take flight on Appa in the morning.
Katara was confused, needless to say; on one hand, he simply and only thought of her as his best friend and due to his selfless and genuine nature, he looked out for her a great deal – she grimaced at the thought. However, on the other hand, he had feelings for her and wouldn't admit them to her for whatever reason, but he tried to show her how he felt through all his acts of kindness and thoughtfulness, plus the lingering looks, touches and hugs – she grinned at that notion.
Aang groaned when he returned to her after searching their surroundings for a way out to no avail, "How are we going to find a way out?"
Katara played tug of war in her head for a short while – it only took a few seconds; the thought of her idea working out the way she had hoped was way too enticing for her to pass up on. Plus, it was a genuine way in which they could escape this cage – though, she hoped they wouldn't escape too quickly if her plan worked out perfectly.
"I have a crazy idea," Katara pipped up, glancing away and tracing the carvings to hide her blush and the eagerness behind her words as she tried to steel herself. She knew it was pointless, once her idea was out in the open, he would eventually uncover what the real reason behind the notion was – she still couldn't help herself though.
"What?" Aang asked, interested.
"Never mind," Katara backpedalled, assuming that if she faked hesitance, he wouldn't discover the eagerness and hope behind her words and tone. "Its too crazy."
"Katara, what is it?" Aang asked again, his interesting spiking.
"I was thinking…" she began nervously, yet excitedly, "the curse says we'll be trapped in here forever unless we trust in love."
"Right," Aang nodded behind her, the ends of his lips turned upwards.
"And here it says, 'love is brightest in the dark'," Katara informed, gesturing towards the text with her hand that held the torch before she turned around to face him. "And it has a picture of them kissing…" she trailed off, dipping her head with a shy smile tugging her lips, thus unable to see Aang grinning at her knowingly.
Aang already knew what she was suggesting, and he was certainly pleased by it – that didn't mean he was going to pass up on the chance to embarrass her as she had him several times before.
"Where are you going with this?" he asked, feigning ignorance as he raised an eyebrow but couldn't contain his smirk.
"Well…" Katara began, glancing away before she met his eyes, "What if we… kissed?" She thought she'd see him blush and stutter like an idiot when she looked up at him, but the master waterbender was instead met with a knowing smirk and amused yet overjoyed eyes.
She groaned; Katara was familiar with that look. It was the same one she received when he caught her observing him a little too closely and excitingly.
"Us… kissing?" Aang asked, dropping his ignorant and bewildered act as he took a step towards her which she hadn't witnessed since she had completely glanced away again, forcing herself to turn her back to him because she didn't want him to see her tears when he would reject her.
Aang however, had other plans.
"See," Katara observed nervously as she braced herself for the sting of rejection, unaware of the fact that Aang was now inches away from her as he drew closer to her back. "It was a crazy idea."
A beat passed, where nothing was said nor heard except for the soft flicker of the ablaze torch in her hand. The anticipation was deafening but Katara gasped when he spoke – he was so close.
"Lucky for you…"
Katara stiffened, eyes wide when she felt his hot breath on her neck as he whispered huskily by her ear.
"I'm known to make crazy ideas work."
She gulped down all the fantasies her mind had conjured in that single second; visions of him wrapping his arms around her from behind, leaning forward, cupping her cheek and panning her head to the side to meet his as he drew closer and kissed her softly – or visions of him turning her around roughly and crashing his lips to hers, his arms wrapping around her waist while hers automatically wrapped around his neck, she'd rise on her tip toes and tilt her head upwards to kiss him more passionately while he'd tug her closer.
"Katara," she shivered pleasantly when she felt him run his hands up her arms, his fingers leaving goosebumps as they trailed upwards towards her shoulders teasingly slowly. "Before we try this," he began, all of a sudden growing nervous as he turned her around slowly. "I want you to know something…" he trailed off, trying to strengthen his resolve to confess to her before he ruined the moment – Katara had noticed this and couldn't help but wonder if he was going to say what she had been hoping for all along. "I – I've never said this to a girl before – or anyone else as a matter of fact," he blushed – she smiled at his attempt to explain and stifled a giggle. "But I… I really like you." He held her hands in his and look down at them, tracing her knuckles soothingly with the pads of his thumbs. "Like really like you… its okay if you don't feel the same, I understand, but I just couldn't keep it in any longer and – Mmph"
Aang's rambling was cut off by pair of soft, sweet, velvet lips crashing into his. His eyes widened for a second in disbelief and astonishment before they sunk closed in bliss, and he kissed her back just as passionately.
Katara smiled into the kiss as she felt his enthusiasm, however, her mind went blank, and she moaned aloud when his tongue snaked through their lips to meet with her own. In here overjoyed and relieved state, Katara hadn't noticed that she had dropped the torch onto the ground and that now it was flickering beneath their feet, threatening to die while they completely ignored it – too engrossed in each other to truly care. They kissed for a few more seconds before they both reluctantly pulled apart, the need for air becoming too much for the both of them.
When she regained her sense of self and registered that Aang had finally confessed to her that he liked her, she knew she couldn't go another second without squealing out how she reciprocated his feelings.
Grinning from ear to ear, Katara's hand trailed up to cup his cheek while his automatically found the small of her back. "I like you too, Aang," she grinned wider when his eyes widened again as he smiled, "like really like you."
"Really?" Aang asked, still astonished that a strong, compassionate, beautiful, inspiring, and lovely girl like Katara would like someone like him.
Katara chuckled at his disbelief, deciding to answer him in another way as her other hand found the back of his neck and pulled him down to her lips once more. This time, he kissed back immediately as one of his hands trailed up her back, causing her to shiver pleasantly before his fingers were tangled in her now dishevelled and open braid.
Keeping it brief, Katara pulled back reluctantly, already missing the softness and sweetness of his lips as she breathed heavily. "Did that answer your question?" She asked, smirking at him as his eyes were still closed in bliss.
However, once he opened them, his gaze took her breath away; half-lidded eyes, a normally bright silver now tremendously darkened into a cloudy grey – a longing to be with her, to be as close to her as possible and to remain that way forever clear as day in the intensity of his gaze.
Instead of answering her however, he simply leaned down slowly and took her lips with his own, the both of them sighing into the kiss as their arms were once again wrapped around their partner. As they kissed, Aang and Katara both realised that they needed more, so, feeling his need for her growing ever more, Aang pressed her closer to himself by wrapping his arms around her waist. The intensity of it caused Katara to yelp into the kiss but it transformed into a moan when Aang snaked his tongue into her mouth again, running it along her teeth and gums before attacking her own tongue.
Feeling like she had died and was now in the spirit world, Katara didn't noticed when she began stumbling backwards with Aang following her, still lip locked, until her back collided with the cave wall behind her. Gasping in surprise, Katara pulled away and realised that she was sandwiched between a rock-hard wall and the equally as rock hard body of Aang.
She bit her lip – their position turned her on, his roughness yet contradicting tenderness turned her on… he turned her on.
Unable to keep away, Aang kissed her again, though this time, he pulled away after a short while and began trailing soft kisses across her cheek, along her jawline, and down her neck. Katara groaned at the loss of his lips but gasped when he soon found a soft spot just below her ear and kissed it softly. Her gasp told him how to pleasure her further; he wrapped one arm around the small of her back as she arched into him and one along the nape of her neck, keeping her still when he returned and sucked on her recently discovered soft spot.
"Ohhh…" Katara moaned, wrapping her arms around his back and feeling all the muscles she had dreamt of exploring for months with her hands – her nails scratching slightly thus giving him more pleasure from the pain thought he'd receive.
Hearing her want and need for him turned him on further, and before he knew it, he had unbuttoned the top four buttons of her tunic and was landing chaste, soft kisses down her throat.
She didn't protest, in actuality, she encouraged him further as she unwrapped his robe and trailed her nails across his large, hard chest and down his chiselled abs. When his lips found her collarbone and sucked softly, she moaned again, wrapping her arms around his back and bringing his bare upper body and her half-naked upper body flush together.
The warmth that she supplied, the softness of her tan skin, the taste of her… he simply could not conjure up the thought of ever stopping – which was odd since he had meditated on strengthening his self-control for years. However, with all the whimpers, and groans, and moans leaving her hot mouth, and when her hips bucked against his, he realised he had no control around her. not when she made such delicious sounds and encouraged him further.
"Ohhh Aang," Katara moaned – Aang groaned again; he loved the way carnal need and want dripped from her voice when she said his name in this state – it drove him wild. She bucked her hips against his again when he trailed his tongue out to taste her. "Yes," she moaned again, pulling him closer when his hands trailed up and down her sides, his warm calloused hands against her soft skin were a great, pleasurable contrast.
"Katara," she whimpered – the way her name was coated with a desire beyond belief when it reverberated through his husky voice pleasured her immensely.
Forgetting that they actually needed to escape and not make out, the two hadn't noticed that their only source of light was now lying dead on the floor. Too lost in their own world, Katara moaned loudly when Aang's kisses descended down her chest, finding the beginnings of her supple breasts while his hands cupped her plump mounds and gave them a good squeeze.
"Ohhh spirits!" She groaned, bucking her hips against his which caused him to moan as she begged. "Do it again, Aang."
He obliged; his large warm hands squeezing her plump ass cheeks again while he kissed her chest, thus causing her to moan when he darted his tongue out to taste her at the same time as his own arousal pressed against her thigh.
"I've wanted you for so long," Aang groaned out, trailing back up as he found her lips again and kissed her softly.
"Me too, Aang," Katara whispered against his lips before she attacked him again. "I've held back for months now."
"Well," Aang pulled back and cupped her face, his thumbs stroking her cheek lovingly while he stared into her oceanic depths. "Don't hold back anymore. I want all of you," she whimpered with desire at his admission, "I want you, and only you, forever."
"Oh Aang," Katara moaned again – delighted and utterly overjoyed by his desire for her, she pulled him back down to her and kissed him roughly, both her hands dragging him down and holding him in place while her lips caressed his animalistically.
When his tongue found hers again, she moaned and shuffled slightly to undo her chest wrappings However, she halted when a loud rumble in the distance was heard. Surprised and alert, Aang and Katara both pulled away and glanced at the interruption. However, when they noticed that they were no longer cascaded in darkness and were instead highlighted by the glow of the crystals above them, they both relaxed.
"The crystals," Aang observed, "they must only light up in the dark. And they'll probably show us the way out."
"That's how the two lovers found each other," Katara realised, "they just put out their lights and followed the crystals."
Understanding that they could stay there forever, and that they had to talk about their new relationship without lust clouding their senses, Aang and Katara both turned back to face each other. Her back was still against the wall, and she was still clutching onto him when he peered into her eyes.
"So, what now?" Aang asked cautiously.
She smiled, lifting her hand to cup his cheek as she whispered, "Well, I have another crazy idea."
"I like the sound of that," Aang smirked at her, winding his arms back around her waist as he tugged her flush against him. "I am a fan of your crazy ideas after all."
"This one isn't as crazy… well, not anymore," she offered, before widening her smile playfully as she joked. "Though, it probably will drive Sokka crazy."
Aang grinned excitedly. "Now I'm even more intrigued," he joked back, making the both of them chuckle as the leaned in and they rested their foreheads against the other's.
The pair gazed into each other's eyes again, taking note of the little glimmers and how watery the sockets had become when they thought of how much they loved the other. However, despite them both stating that they wouldn't hold back, neither of them admitted that they loved the other as they feared it was too much, too soon. So, their unsung love lingered in their eyes, in their caresses, and in their kisses – and they didn't mind at all, for now.
"We should probably get out of here," Katara suggested hesitantly – she didn't want to.
Aang simply sighed as he leaned down and tugged at her ear lobe, thus causing her to gasp as his hands began mapping out her curves once again. "What's the hurry?"
"Sokka m-might be worried," she protested, though not really knowing why as her body was begging for her to just let him do what he wanted – she craved the attention he was giving her now after yearning for it for months. Aang didn't listen, however; he continued trailing kisses around her neck until he found a new soft spot just below her jaw which he was entirely focused on now. "Aang w-we… we can d-do this later…" she offered.
"Is that a proposition or a promise?"
She whimpered – Katara was honestly bewildered by how she was able to resist pouncing on him even now, much less why she was even trying.
"Tonight, will p-probably be a – Oh Spirits – a… a c-cold night," she continued while he kept teasing her; sucking on her collarbone and now kneading her covered breasts as she mewled in response. She ran her hand down his abdomen unknowingly, her hands mapping out his muscles as she groaned in need and desire. "And I'll n-need to k-keep warm – Mhmmm – somehow – Oh Aang. Please."
"That's true," he piped up – she groaned in annoyance, thus contradicting her own protests earlier, when he leaned back up and disengaged from her skin as he joked. "I would gladly offer my assistance to help keep you warm by cuddling and doing whatever else you want… Sifu Katara."
Katara chuckled as he leaned back down and continued his attack on her neck. She rolled her head back to allow him better access and moaned softly when his hands found her ass cheeks again and squeezed.
"For the record," Katara began, wanting to make it clear to him that she didn't want this to be an occasional or onetime thing. "I'm going to need your assistance tonight, and most-likely every other night after as well." When Aang leaned back up and gazed at her, amused, she felt like she may have assumed something which was far from reality and tried to make sure he was comfortable. "That is… i-if you're okay with it. I – I mean – "
"Katara," he cut her off, whispering softly as he cupped her face with his hands and kissed her softly. "This isn't just a fling for me; you mean so much more to me than that."
Her eyes widened in surprise as she hesitantly asked while smiling softly, "Really?"
"Of course, sweetie," he answered immediately – her heart fluttered at the pet name. "Normally I would officially ask for your father's permission also," he began hesitantly, "but since he's not here – if you're okay with it… I'd like to court you, Katara of the Southern Water Tribe."
By this point, the both of them had completely forgotten about the fact that they had to escape the cave as Sokka was waiting for them impatiently outside – too lost in their love for each other to truly take notice.
"You really want to be with me?" Katara asked again; although he had already told her so in so many different ways, she still wanted him to confirm it one more time – plus, she liked hearing him admit how much he wanted her.
"Katara," Aang began tenderly as he kissed her forehead, "I want nothing more," he kissed her nose, "than to be with you." He pecked her lips, "I want us to be together."
Katara grinned from ear to ear as she pulled him back down to her and kissed him passionately, both of them sighing into is as they relished the other's taste. "Then, yes," she answered against his lips, still grinning when he smiled at her. "I want us to be together too," she stated before she kissed him again – though, she did reluctantly pull back after a brief moment when reality set in. "But we need to leave now, I'm sure Sokka's worried."
Nodding in agreement reluctantly, Aang kissed her once more before helping her button up her tunic again. She smiled at his kindness and in return, helped him rewrap his Air Nomad robes. Once they were settled, Aang took Katara's hand in his and they both began walking down the now highlighted path, unable to wipe the lopsided grins of their faces, even when Sokka yelled at them for taking too long, and also when he yelled at them again, demanding an answer as to why they were holding hands and standing so closely.
Throughout the entire day, even after their run in with Azula, Mai and Ty Lee in Omashu, Aang and Katara couldn't help but look forward to what mysteries they'd uncover in the night… together.
