A/N: Here is the next chapter of my Megaforce rewrite, which I've dubbed "Starforce". I hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Power Rangers Megaforce/Starforce or Tensou Sentai Goseiger in any way. I just own most of the plot and the characters and things you don't recognize from the original version.
This chapter is Noah-centric, as we find out more about his backstory and personality. Also I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but the Rangers here wear different outfits every day (not the same one). Only their jackets and any jewelry (like Emma's necklace) stay the same.

"Noah's pacifistic nature is getting in the way of how he fights. Fortunately, he receives help from the last person he expects to understand him."

Power Rangers: Megaforce REDO – dubbed Starforce
Season 1, Episode 5: Once in a Blue Moon
Harwood County High School, Harwood County, Oregon
September 25, 2015
The final bell rang, signaling to the students that they could finally enjoy the rest of their Friday, and then their weekend.
Noah was in the computer lab, all alone, as he typed the final keys, finishing his long-awaited project, "And voila! It's done!"
On the computer screen was a video call with Emma, and she said, "That's great, Noah! I can't beleive you got it up so fast!"
"Believe it, Emma," Noah replied. "It's our own social networking site. The whole school will be logged on. This way, word about weird incidents will quickly reach us, and we can hopefully avoid a catstrophe or two."
"Always prepared, aren't you?" Emma asked, gently smiling.
"Of course," Noah replied, as the door behind him opened. He turned around to see who it was.
"Hey, Noah, I need your help," it was Jake. He left the door partially open, and he was holding a guitar case.
Noah turned back to Emma. "I gotta go, Em. See you later."
"See you later!" she gave him one last smile before she hung up, leaving the website Noah was working on as the only screen on the computer.
"What do you want, Jake?" Noah asked, not really in the mood for any of his nonsense right now. He had to check the website for any last minute bugs.
"When did you start crushing on my step-sister?" Jake asked, a knowing smirk on his face.
Noah felt his face go red, and trying not to get flustered, repeated, "Jake, what do you want? I'm busy."
"I need your help with this," Jake held up the guitar case he was holding. He then set it on the table, and opened it.
Noah nearly had a heart attack. It was the Snake Axe.
"Are you out of your mind?!" he lectured, as he made a beeline for the door and shut it all the way, locking it after checking to see if the coast was clear. He turned around, only having to duck as Jake spun his Axe around, almost striking Noah a couple of times.
Jake laughed, "You've got to fix this for me, buddy."
Noah immediately scoffed, "No way. I don't condone violence."
"Really?" Jake was not impressed. "You are a Power Ranger who fights demons from the underworld on a daily basis. You're one to talk. Anyways, it just needs a few little tweaks, y'know, to make it a little more balanced." He demonstrated by balancing it in the palm of his hand, but it was obviously not at all steady. "Besides, I know when I can properly use this thing, I can prove to Gia that I am the strongest of us all. Not her."
"And help defend the Earth?" Noah did not let up his scowl.
"Of course, that too," Jake said before heading for the door.
"I'm not fixing your Axe," Noah said.
"What have you got against violence?" Jake asked, turning around, his hand on the knob.
Noah was quiet, stewing in his anger for Jake, "You're not a close enough friend to know that. Now, please leave. I'm busy."
Jake left without a word, wondering what he did to deserve this.

"Conquer the Land Between without an army?" Admiral Malkor asked. "How?"
"I have a monster that can spread a virus through an entire city with one sneeze. Humans will be instantly transformed into mindless minions. You'll rule the Land Between within days."
Creepox was skeptical, "Really? I can think of a million plans that are better than that one."
But Malkor stepped in, "Do it."
Vrak gave a small bow before leaving the room.

Jake would never understand, Noah reminded himself. You're better off without him.
Noah liked to think of himself as a pacifist, because he really did despise violence. His parents were active Marines, and they were both killed in action, leaving their only son with his flowershop owner grandmother.
Jake had very little to do with it, to be honest. But the Black Ranger seemed to enjoy fighting, and Noah didn't.
Noah hated fighting. He was only the Blue Ranger because he wanted to help other people, and now that he knew that the Land Between, his home, was at stake, there was no way he could just sit back and let it all happen. He had to do something.
Maybe Jake would never understand what he went through, but Noah couldn't deny that he would never understand Jake either.
Noah finally finished up debugging the school's new social site, and he glanced at Jake's guitar case.
He sighed in annoyance as his better judgement and kind heart won out.
Because Jake was his teammate, and he had vowed to help them as much as he could.
He got up from his seat and locked the door, taking a quick peek out the window to make the coast was clear. He then took out the Snake Axe, and quickly fund that he could barely hold onto it. It was much heavier that he realized.
He set it back down in the case, wondering how Jake even used it.
It was typical, though. Noah was the nerd, the weakest, and Jake was the jock, the strongest. It did make sense.
Maybe he wasn't cut out for this hero thing. Jake would always be stronger than him.
If he was going to keep up with the rest, maybe he needed to start working out like Jake.

The citizens of Harwood County were enjoying the day outside and were unaware of Virox, Vrak's new Field Commander, standing on top of a building.
Virox gives a large sneeze and the phlegm, in the form of rain, lands on the people below.
He laughed as he declared, "Now all of humanity will be my minions!"

Jake returned to the computer an hour later, only to find Noah doing pushups, and kinda failing to do so.
Jake couldn't hide his smile as he asked, "Noah, what are you doing?"
Clearly embarrassed, Noah quickly stood back up. He cleared his throat as he sat back down in his chair, "None of your business."
Jake let his smile fade, "Were you trying to get stronger?"
"And if I was?"
Jake let a gentle smile slip at Noah's embarrassment, before he sat down next to him, "Hey, I'm not knocking it. I mean, I do it all the time. And there's nothing wrong with doing that." He took a deep breath, "Look, Noah, I wanted to apologize for earlier. I obviously crossed a line, and instead of backing off, I only made it worse. So, I'm sorry."
"It's okay," Noah replied. "It's not your fault. Yes, I was trying to get stronger. I mean, you were always the gung ho guy, and I was always the slightly nerdy type."
"Slightly?" Jake jokingly asked.
Noah's glare pierced through his skin, "You're not helping."
"Sorry, sorry, I'm sorry," Jake was honest, "It's just fun to mess with you sometimes. Listen, you do know you are smarter than the rest of us combined. Right?"
Noah gave a small nod.
"That's your strength," Jake confided to him. "So focus on that, and leave all the heavy lifting to me. It's okay if you're nerdy. It's just part of you who are."
"Thanks," Noah replied. "I never thought you'd be the one to tell me that."
Now it was Jake's turn to flash a playful glare, "Hey."
Noah smiled at him, "It's just fun to mess with you sometimes. I promise I will find to fix your Axe. Somehow. If only I could first lift it and test it out myself so I know what needs fixing."
"Ah," Jake nodded in understanding. "That's why you were working out. Look, let me tell you a little secret, Noah. It's not about muscles. It's about believing in yourself. If you believe in yourself, you can do anything you set your mind to. Okay?"
Noah let slip a small smile.

Gia and Troy were walking away from the Mall, with Emma in tow, the latest meeting of the Martial Arts Club having just ended. Emma had joined them today, but only as a first timer. She was only watching. Next week, should she choose to, then she would start learning how to fight alongside them.
"That was awesome, guys," the Pink Ranger told them. "You were evenly matched."
"Thank you, Emma," Troy replied. "And I'm glad you decided to join us."
"My pleasure," Emma said, before her smile faded. "But you guys are so much better fighters than I am."
"Don't worry about it," Gia advised. "We each have our own strengths. There's no use comparing."
"Gia's right," Troy added. "We like you just the way you are."
And Emma's smile was back.
Gia suddenly held her arm out, "Stop!" Troy and Emma both halted in their tracks. "You guys seeing this too?"
"See what?" Troy asked, but he then trailed off when he noticed that, ahead of them, a person had turned into a Spirit and then sneezed on the other three people nearby, turning them into Spirits too.
"What's going on?" Emma asked.
"Good question," Troy said, before pulling out his Morpher and calling the others, "Guys, we have a problem."

"We know," Noah answered, Jake looking over his shoulder. "The site I set up has picked it up. Several people have noted this phenomenon."
"You know what's happening?" Emma asked him.
"It's a viral attack," Tensou explained. "Like the flue. One person gets it and then they spread it to the next person, who spreads it to the next person, who spreads it to-!"
Gia cut him off, rather impatiently, "We get it, Tensou."
"Don't worry, Jake and I will be right there to help," Noah said, before hanging up.
When the two were halfway down the hall, Jake suddenly slid to a stop.
"What's wrong?" Noah asked him.
"I almost forgot my Axe," Jake told him. "Go on ahead. I'll catch up."
So Noah raced into the city alone.

Meanwhile, Troy led the morph.
"Starforce, Shine Down!"
Once morphed, he cautiously told the two girls, "We have to find a way to do this without hurting them."
Gosei agreed, "Yes. Remember that they are just innocent people. It's not their fault they have been mutated."
"Then how do we stop them?" Emma asked.
"I will leave that all to you." He then hang up. This was part of their test, after all.
The 'Spirits' crept closer to the three. "Well, these guys won't give us the time to figure that out," Gia noted.
"Then, we've got to think of something fast," Troy said.

Noah was running along, before he stopped and took a look below, where Virox was. People were terrified and running away from him.
"Watch out," Virox threatened, "I feel a sneeze coming on."
Noah pulled out his Morpher, but could only stare at it. "Come on, Carver. You can do this." He then morphed, "Starforce, Shine Down!"
Meanwhile, one terrified woman was running away from the monster, as he tried to blast her. She fell to the ground, as Virox told her, "You know what's wrong with you humans? You're not slimy enough. But I can fix that with my combination slime and fire ball!"
Virox fired, but Noah quickly jumped down, grabbed the woman and took her to safety.
Once at a safe distance, Noah knelt at her side, his Shark Bowgun in hand, and told her, "Don't worry. Stay here where you'll be safe."
The woman took one look at him and asked, "Are you...some kind of superhero?"
Noah gently sighed and said, "I guess we're about to find out."
By this time, Virox had found them, and Noah faced him down. "You shouldn't attack innocent people."
Virox charged toward him, and Noah fired his Bowgun several times, but the monster wasn't fazed.
Then, suddenly, Virox was attacked from another direction. Noah turned to see who his own savior was.
It was Jake, fully morphed, Snake Axe in hand. "Hey, buzz off!" Jake then leapt up in the air and landed a powerful strike against Virox, who was knocked to the ground.
Jake now stood at Noah's side, and he said, "I got here as fast as I could. Now watch my back. I'm going in."
"Wait!" Noah said. "We need an attack plan!"
"Fair enough," Jake accepted this. "Now, what's our move?"
Virox used this time to get back on his feet, "I'll tell you your move. It's to go down in flames!" He then threw a fireball at them, which Jake blocked with his Axe.

More people turned into Spirits, and Troy immediately noted this, "Now there are even more of them! We can't hurt them!"
"So what are you going to do?" Emma asked.
Gia replied, "We need to get to higher ground where they can't reach us."
Troy then got an idea, "I know just the place. Follow me."
Emma and Gia followed him, and the 'Spirits' followed them.

Creepox was not happy, "I don't believe it! Your feeble plan is actually working!"
"You shouldn't be surprised," Vrak said. He then walked over to Malkor, "My schemes are just too hard for his brutish brain to follow."
"You haven't finished the job yet," Creepox reminded him. "So shut your mouth until your simpleton has taken down the Rangers!"

Noah and Jake were fighting Virox with their respective weapons. The monster knocked Noah down, who managed to fire his Shark Bowgun at him, knocking the monster down.
He stood back up and aimed his Bowgun at Virox, as Jake said, "You nailed him!"
Virox whined, "You two are a headache!" before firing at them. The two blocked the blasts with their weapons. But when the smoke cleared, Virox was gone.
Both Rangers standing down, Noah walked over to the woman and asked, "Are you alright?"
The woman replied with, "Yes, thanks to you. You saved me."
As she ran away for someplace safer, Jake leaned an elbow on Noah's shoulder, "See? You did just fine on your own."

Gia and Troy were standing on top of a large create. Gia yelled at Emma, "Hurry! They're right behind you!"
Emma reached the crate and Troy held out his hand to help her up. She grabbed it and he pulled her up.
"Thanks," Emma said, before surveying the scene. "You're right, Troy. There are too many. What do we do now?"
Troy pulled out his Morpher again and contacted Jake and Noah.

"Where are you guys?" Troy asked.
"Sorry," Jake replied. "We ran into the freaky monster that's spreading this nasty virus."
"We've got our hands full with 'Spirits' over here," Emma informed them. "We've got to stop them without hurting them."
"Sounds tricky," Jake pondered, before swinging his Axe down. Unfortunately, it landed right on Noah's boot. Noah tried to catch Jake's attention, but Jake never turned around.
"We can't let him infect any more innocent people," Gia said.
Unable to get Jake's attention, Noah fell to the ground. Meanwhile, Jake agreed and asked, "How are we going to do that?"
Noah finally shouted, "Quarantine! The first step to stopping a virus is to keep it from spreading to more victims!"
Jake relayed the info back to the others, "Did you guys hear that? Quarantine."
"Great idea, Noah," Gia said. "Why didn't I think of that?"
Jake asked her, "How do you know it was Noah that said that?"
"Because I know you," Gia sassed. "You're not smart enough to think of that all by yourself."
Jake grumbled, "Hey..." before hanging up. He swung his Axe up, finally releasing Noah, who fell to the ground.
Jake turned around to see Noah's predicament.
"Stop fooling around, Noah," Jake said. "We need to help the others."
Jake took off like a rocket, and Noah commented, "I'm never going to keep up with this guy."
But he got up and took off as well.

Creepox stayed silent as Vrak gave Malkor a status update, "The virus keeps spreading. It will soon reach a critical threshold and nothing can stop it."

The current plan was tiring out the 'Spirits', without hurting them, so it would be easier to round them up and quarantine them.
As Troy and Emma came loping back, Gia asked Gosei, "Are you sure we won't hurt them?"
"Your powers are not meant for hurting the innocent," Gosei reassured them. "Yes, I'm sure. And you yourselves control the time limit on how long the power of your Cards will last."
"Good," Gia said. "Let's set them to expire the momment that Field Commander is defeated."
"Sounds like a plan," Troy said, before pulling out his Morpher again. "Jake, Noah, where are you guys? We're trying to herd them all together so we can quarantine them. We could really use your guys' help."
"Sorry, bad news," Jake replied. "Virox is back. We're dealing with him now." He then hung up.

Virox was clearly not happy to see them, but to be fair, Jake and Noah weren't really happy to see him either.
"Why fight, Rangers? This realm is going to fall eventually!" Virox taunted.
With his Snake Axe in hand, Jake charged at the monster. But Noah stayed put, harshly haunted by the monster's choice of words.
He couldn't stop the memories of his parents rushing into his mind. He grip around his Bowgun tightened and shook.
"You're the virus," Jake said, as he fought the monster with his Axe, "and we're the cure!"
Virox blasted Jake back with a fire ball, sending him flying, dropping his Axe as he hit the ground.
"You think you're being clever, Ranger," Virox said, "but I take 'virus' as a compliment."
He walked forward to finish Jake off, but was instead fired on from behind.
Jake turned to Noah, as the Blue Ranger knelt beside him, "You okay, Jake?"
"I'm fine," Jake replied. "I managed to injure him. His chest. Go for it."
Noah ran towards Virox, firing his Bowgun, but the monster only turned his back and used his shell to deflect the blows.
"Nice shot, Ranger!" Virox taunted, before firing several fire balls at Noah, who got hit with them all and was sent to the ground.
"Noah!" Jake cried. He tried to get up, but his body wouldn't let him. "C'mon, buddy! Get up!"
He did. "My Shark Bowgun didn't work..." he said. "Jake, I need your Axe here!" He went over to where it laid, and he picked it up.
Well, he tried. It was still too heavy for him.
Virox took this advanage and struck Noah hard.
The Blue Ranger went flying once more, but by some miracle, he was still holding both weapons.
Jake immediately noticed Noah's hesitation, "What are you waiting for?"
"He's right," Noah muttered. "Why do we fight?"
"Are we really going to have that conversation now?" Jake asked, incredulously. He tried to get up, but only came crashing back to the ground. "Snap out of it!"
"Fighting only leads to more fighting, violence only begets violence, and people only end up getting hurt!" Noah shot back. "It's not worth it!"
"'Why do we fight'?" Jake asked, almost yelling. "I'll tell you exactly why! Because it's the right thing to do! Protecting the Land Between and saving people like that woman is always worth it! Sometimes, fighting is necessary, and it comes in all forms! Not all fighting is violent! You can do this, Noah! Believe in yourself, and you can do anything!"
In that moment, Jake had realized why Noah kept asking himself this question. Something happened to Noah long ago to make him a pacifist. But Noah needed to realize that not all fighting involved violence like he thought.
Noah slowly stood back up. 'Sometimes, fighting is necessary!', and right now, Jake couldn't fight, so it was all up to Noah.
Virox laughed.
He at least had to try.
He tossed the Shark Bowgun into the air and lifted up the Snake Axe. Noah charged towards Virox with the Snake Axe, with the monster firing more fireballs, but he blocked them with the Axe. He tried to strike the monster, but it knocked the Axe away. Noah, however, spun around and managed to strike him anyway, right across the chest.
Noah then tossed the Axe aside as the Bowgun fell into his hands, and he fired at Virox point blank, who was knocked to the ground.
By this time, Jake had recovered, "'Not strong enough', my butt! That was amazing!"
"Thanks," Noah replied, before his voice went soft, "and thanks for putting my head back on straight."
"No problem," Jake said, as he helped Noah to his feet. "Now, let's finish this guy off so we can help the others."
As he said this, Virox got back up but was sent back down by a multi-colored blast.
The two turned to see Emma, Gia, and Troy, all with their respective weapons in hand. Smiling underneath their helmets, Noah and Jake ran over to join them.
"Nice timing, guys," Noah said. "But what about the 'Spirits'."
"Quarantined," Emma replied.
"Just as you suggested," Troy said. "We used Rockrush, Twistornado, and Windrive to round them all. They'll be freed as soon as this creep is gone, so don't worry."
"Nice going, Noah," Gia said. "You really kicked butt with that Axe. But he's not staying down." She motioned over to Virox with a nod of her head, as the said monster got back on his feet.
"Then, we'll just have to make him stay down," Noah said.
"Fury of the Dragon, Starforce Red!" Troy called.
"Flames of the Phoenix, Starforce Pink!" Emma called.
"Venom of the Snake, Starforce Black!" Jake called.
"Claw of the Tiger, Starforce Yellow!" Gia called.
"Bite of the Shark, Starforce Blue!" Noah called.
"Earth's Defenders-" Noah started.
"-Never Surrender!" Jake finished.
"Power Rangers: Starforce!"
"I guess I'll just have to forcefeed the virus to you losers!" Virox said, before blasting another fireball at them. Gia, Jake, and Troy all dodged it by rolling to the side, while Noah and Emma leapt into the sky.
"Aim for the torso!" Noah instructed them all, as he and Emma fired their respective weapons at him, hitting him hard.
Jake and Gia were next, and they each landed solid hits, while Troy leapt in and struck the wound directly with his Dragon Sword.
Virox was knocked off his feet and rolled onto the ground. The Rangers gathered together, where Noah gave the order this time. "Weapons Combine!"
The five Rangers proceeded to combine their respective weapons into their giant crossbow-like weapon. "Starforce Blaster!"
They all placed their respective Power Cards into the Blaster.
"Sky Power!" Troy and Emma called.
"Land Power!" Gia and Jake called.
"Sea Power!" Noah called.
"Energize!" With this, the Blaster charged up, before they fired it together. "Dynamic Victory Charge!"
Virox exploded in a great fireball, but as soon as he did, Zombats flew in and brought him back, but giant size. It was so quick, that the Rangers literally had no time to celebrate their victory.
"Let's go!" Troy said, the five taking out their Power Cards.
"Mechazords, Shine Down!"
"Summon Zords!"
After the Rangers all leapt into their mechazords, Troy told his team, "Let's do this!" before holding up his copy of a certain Power Card.
"Zords Combine!"
"Summon Megazord!"
Jake and Gia connected first, forming the legs. Troy followed up, forming the torso. Noah and Emma were last with the arms. The head was formed last.
"Gosei Great Megazord! Ready!"
Virox charged at them without a word, and the Megazord blocked him with its sword. Virox batted the sword away, and the Megazord struck at him away, but nothing happened.
"The Dragon Sword can't destroy its shell," Noah noted. "It's not strong enough!"
Virox yanked the sword away and struck the Megazord several times with its own weapon. The Rangers were having a difficult time as the Megazord was taking a beating and dropped to its knees.
Virox was about to strike them again, when Noah stopped him by catching the Dragon Sword in the Shark Mechazord's mouth.
"You can't it back from me!" Virox taunted. "I'm stronger than you!"
"It's not about muscles," Noah replied, struggling against the monster's strength.
"There's no use fighting, Rangers!" Virox said. "It's over!"
"No, it's not!" Noah said. "The reason we Rangers fight is to protect people from bullies like you!"
Suddenly, Noah's belt buckle glowed and produced a new Power Card.
Noah caught it, and Troy asked, "What is it, Noah?"
"It's a new set of Zord."
"You've showed great courage today, Noah," Gosei told him. "Meet the Sea Brothers. They will help you all in your fight against the Land Beyond."
Noah placed the card in his Morpher, "Thanks, Gosei. Sea Brothers, Shine Down!"
"Summon Zords!"
Out of the ocean sprung the Manta Star, the Hammerhead Star, and the Sawshark Star. The trio flew into the city and immediately fired at Virox, who had no choice but to release the Dragon Sword and let the Rangers have it back.
"Activate Sea Star Megazord!" Noah said.
The three Zords, Hammerhead, Sawshark, and Manta, attacked themselves to the Megazord to form the new mentioned Megazord.
Virox regained his footing, "I'm not afraid of sharks."
"And we're not afraid of bugs!" Noah shot back. "Target Scan!" The scan told all five Rangers how to beat him, by first destroying his shell.
Virox and the Megazord fought, first by using the Hammerhead Zord to hit him, then the Manta Zord to headbutt him, and finally the Sawshark Zord to destroy his shell.
"Impossible!" Virox gloats. "Nothing can destroy a virus like me!"
"Let's test that theory!" Noah said, pulling out the Victory Charge Power Card. "Victory Charge: Shine Down! On behalf of The Land Beyond, your sentence is destruction!"
"Victory Charge!"
Virox was finally destroyed for the last time, and the Rangers cheered.

Jake had a rather quiet weekend. At least, if you didn't count Emma trying to practice martial arts all day. It was Monday now, and he had gotten here early to see if Noah had finished his Axe yet, or if he needed anything.
Or if he simply wanted to talk. Jake honestly didn't mind. He wanted to get to know Noah better. He was one interesting nerd.
He entered the empty, save Noah, computer room, "Hey, Noah. How's it going?"
"Lock the door. I have a surprise for you," Noah said, without looking behind him.
Jake did as he asked, before walking over to where his guitar case was. Noah opened it to reveal the Axe still in there.
"I adjusted it for you," Noah said, easily picking it up and handing it over to Jake. "I know it doesn't look any different, but trust me."
Jake tossed the Axe from one hand to the other, surprised at how light it felt. He then swung the Axe, and Noah had to duck (or he would've been hit too), but he lost control and accidentally hit the computer.
"What just happened?" Jake asked.
Noah grabbed the Axe, replying, "Titanium alloy. It's fourty percent lighter than before. So now you can be more agile with less effort."
"I'm not so sure, man," Jake frowned. "I don't think I can get used to it like this."
"Sure you will," Noah then shot Jake's own words back at him. "Just beleive in yourself."

Note: Sorry, Noah, but that's why it's dangerous to have an existential crisis in the middle of a fight. Also, I'm surprised they didn't go anywhere with that website. It had potential. And, I mirrored Noah's main concerns with Emma to show that insecurities like that are actually very common.
