A/N: In line with "Better Together" (AKA: my Samurai rewrite) and "Sanctuary" (AKA: my Megaforce rewrite), here is my Dino Charge rewrite. Don't get me wrong, Dino Charge is one of my top three favorite seasons, but there were a couple of let-downs. The conclusion of the James Navarro storyline (as well as how they handled him afterwards) could've gone a whole lot better, and the finale (specifically the time travel thing) came out of nowhere (to me, at least). So, most of this rewrite will be fixing those two things (and adding new stuff to the mix).
I hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Power Rangers Dino Charge or Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger. I just own most of the plot and the characters and things you don't recognize from the original versions.
P.S.: Don't worry, Tyler/Shelby is still the reigning champion of OTPs in this story. Also, this chapter is the first two episodes together (for a reason). In real life, this would be aired as an hour-long special. So, beware, this is a long chapter.
Also, keep in mind that in this universe, Riley and Emily (from Samurai) are childhood friends, who live in Montana. I've also aged the Rangers up a bit, as most of them are 20-ish.

Break the Chains That Divide
Power Rangers: Dino Charge REDO
Season 1, Episode 01: Dawn of the Dinos
Amber Beach, California
65 million Years Ago
The eleven Energems Keeper was entrusted to protect have been bonded to the dinosaurs for approximately fifty years now. To be honest, he was happy with which Energem went to which dinosaur, since each Energem had its own personality, so to speak.
The most energetic, the Red Energem, went to the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
The most trustworthy, the Black Energem, went to the Parasaurolophus.
The strongest, the Blue Energem, went to the Stegosaurus.
The most driven, the Green Energem, went to the Velociraptor.
The most beautiful, the Pink Energem, went to the Triceratops.
The most loyal, the Gold Energem, went to the Pteradactyl.
The most empathic, the Yellow Energem, went to the Ankylosaurus.
The most regal, the Orange Energem, went to the Pachycephalosaurus.
The most intelligent, the Purple Energem, went to the Plesiosaurus.
The brightest, the Silver Energem, went to the Brachiosaurus.
And finally, the fiercest, the White Energem, went to the Spinosaurus.
Fifty years ago, Keeper had chosen to land on this planet and use it as his base of operations after he gave the dinosaurs the Energems. He had hunkered down, ready to stand his ground and fight off his enemies.
The arrival of the one who would become his apprentice, Zenowing, should probably have been his warning. Zenowing was a refuge of the destroyed planet Aerogon, from outer space, where Keeper expected his enemies to come from.
The fact that Keeper's greatest enemy from the Earth itself spoke volumes.
Keeper and the dinosaurs weren't the only inhabitants of this planet, to be honest. And no, he was not talking about the prehistoric humans that he kept his distance from (mostly because he didn't know if he could entrust the Energems to them).
Other monsters were here too. In fact, they were called Guardians, and they each guarded one aspect of human emotion, as well as luck itself. They lived in their own castle, and Keeper, the nomad, had formed an alliance with them. He never told them about the Energems (for obvious reasons), but he was honest when he told them that he was just seeking refuge here (like Zenowing) and meant no harm. In fact, it was through them that he met Zenowing, since they promised to tell him whenever an outside force entered the atmosphere (it was already their job to watch for these instances; he only asked to be one of the parties informed).
He should've kept his guard up, because they were the ones who had betrayed him.
A monster named Sledge had appeared, somehow, and told them all about the Energems, especially about how Keeper had been hiding them, "keeping them all to himself," in Sledge's own words. Keeper didn't know how he knew, but he knew that he would never be able to outrun this Sledge.
He had a feeling that he and Sledge would always be too close to each other, and not once did it ever go away.
He couldn't rely on his apprentice to help him right now. He was off on a mission, a necessary one, so Keeper needed to do this himself.
So now, here he was, using his hastily-made spaceship, with room for only one, fleeing from the atmosphere, hoping that Sledge's much larger spaceship, towing a large collection of asteroids that he had collected a couple of weeks ago, didn't spot him.
When lasers started firing at him, he knew that he was doomed, even if they seemingly malfunctioned for a moment and stopped, but he had to keep fighting. He was entrusted those Energems for a reason.
He just needed to get away from the dinosaurs he entrusted the Energems to. As long as he kept all of Sledge's focus on him, then the Energems would be safe. That's all the mattered.

Sledge's Spaceship, Outer Space
"WRENCH!" Fury yelled. "What's taking so long?! Get those lasers fixed NOW!" He liked to yell, and he was always in a bad moon. Well, as the General of Anger, it fit.
"Would you quit yelling at me?!" Wrench, the General of Sorrow, yelled back, working his tech magic by the wires. "Sledge told me to build this monstrosity of a ship in only a week. It's bound to have some problems."
Sledge had a feeling that Keeper would try to flee to outer space, and he was right. Hence the space ship.
To be honest, Wrench had no idea why they decided to elect Sledge, the new guy, as their leader. It was Poisandra's idea, unfortunately. She, the General of Joy, had immediately developed a crush on Sledge, to Wrench's dismay (he's had a crush on her for so long, and she never seemed to notice).
Suddenly, the doors to the bridge opened and in stepped Sledge, Poisandra on his arm. Though still impatient, he was more polite than Fury was when he asked, "Wrench, you get those lasers fixed yet?"
Wrench connected the last wire as he said, "Almost done." He then flipped the switch and said, "We're good to go. Again."
Poisandra turned to Sledge as the green monster sat down in the captain's chair. "Sledgums, when do I get to do something? Being the only female on this ship is so irritating. 'Don't touch that, you'll get burned', 'don't do that, you'll get hurt', 'what would you know about some stupid asteroid collection, you're just a girl', 'we're just trying to protect you, you know'," she whined. "Please, I've seen more action than all of you combined."
Fury scoffed, "I highly doubt that." (This successfully covered up Sledge's childish pout and "They're not stupid.")
Poisandra immediately summoned her heart-shaped axe, "Don't test me, furball!"
Wrench was at Poisandra's side in a split second, his hand on hers and lowering her axe, "Take it easy, Poisandra. I just remembered that you are a great shot. Why don't you fire the lasers?"
Poisandra seemed to accept this (keyword: 'seemed'), and she wordlessly turned to Sledge for confirmation.
"You are tougher than you look, Poisandra. Go right ahead," Sledge politely told her.
Poisandra put her axe away and stood in the very front. She cleared her throat before singing, "Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti~" Once the lasers were all charged up, and the targeting system firmly locked onto Sledge's ship, she commanded, "Fire!"
The lasers immediately fired at Keeper's tiny ship again. Two of them missed, but the third shot hit its target dead on, and Keeper was sent back down to Earth.
Fury immediately jumped, "I'll get him for you, Master Sledge."
"What?!" came Poisandra's outraged cry. "No, I will!"
Sledge swiftly cut in, "Poisandra, I need you up here, in case anything goes wrong, or if that weasel tries to escape to outer space again. Wrench, I also need you here. You're the only one who's capable of fixing this ship with their eyes closed. Fury will go, as his superb sense of smell makes him the best at hunting down enemies."
Fury bowed as he took the only escape pod that worked down to the surface.
Poisandra only scoffed and said, "I miss my sister."
"Sorry, dear, but I need Curio down below, to look after the castle until we return," Sledge told her.
Wrench gave her a gentle pat on the shoulders, "Don't worry. Curio is the Spy of Luck. If anyone of us can survive anything, it's her."
Poisandra sighed, "You're right. Stay positive."

Keeper emerged from the wreckage miraculously unharmed, save for a few bumps and scratches. He immediately checked the remaining pieces of his ship, wondering why, despite the hasty building, the sturdiness of his ship didn't hold up (it was going into space, after all).
The first thing he noticed was the power core he used (it looked like a red crystal). It was brightly flashing, which meant it was unstable. That was not good.
Because when it exploded, it would create an explosion that would level this entire area, killing him and all the dinosaurs.
"KEEPER!"
Keeper gasped. He knew that voice, "Fury!"
But that's when he got an idea. He remembered that he still had the case he kept the Energems in before giving them to the dinosaurs. Knowing Fury and his newfound loyalty to Sledge, Keeper knew exactly what he would do.
When Fury finally arrived on the scene, he found Keeper laying dead next to the wreckage of his tiny space ship. Fury searched the leftover scrap, until he found a strange looking case.
The exact type of case that Sledge had described.
"Yes!" Fury said, laughing as he walked away.
When Fury was far enough away, Keeper opened his eyes. He only got back to his feet when he saw Fury's pod head up into the atmosphere.
As soon as he was upright again, the trees rustled, revealing the tyrannosaurus rex that he had given the Red Energem to, and one by one, the other dinosaurs joined him, including the plesiosaurus from the beach next to him and the pteradactyl from the air (and had landed next to the t-rex). He wasn't surprised. The Energems had given these dinosaurs some form of immortality.
"Hello, my friends," Keeper said to them. "I have a feeling this might be the last time we ever speak to each other." He didn't want to have this talk. He had developed a close bond with all of the dinosaurs, not just the eleven he chose. They were all his friends. "I didn't expect this conversation to be so soon, but I must ask a request of all eleven of you. Please, guard the Energems with your lives. Their incredible power transcends time and space, good and evil. If they ever fall into the wrong hands, it would mean the end of the universe as we know it. I chose you all because you are the mightiest creatures on the planet, beings of great bravery and courage. I trust you to keep the Energems safe."
The eleven dinosaurs roared out, a symbol of them promising him that they would, before the t-rex leaned down and nuzzled its snout against Keeper's chest, a gesture of affection. Keeper smiled before gently rubbing the top of its head.
"I will miss you all as well," he said, feeling a catch in his throat. He allowed himself to cry this time.
Not being from Earth himself, this was the first time he had experienced any sort of human emotion.
And he found that it was rather infectious.

Sledge's Spaceship, Outer Space
Sledge was waiting by the launch pad when the only escape pod returned. The hatch opened to reveal Fury holding the case holding the Energems.
"I've done it," Fury reported. "Keeper is history. And now, Master Sledge, the Energems are all yours."
"Yes!" Sledge cheered, before taking the case from Fury. "Now, the entire universe will grovel before me!" He opened it, only to find a glowing red crystal in its place. "What? IT'S A BOMB!"
No one had time to react, before the red crystal exploded, blowing a hole in the hull of the ship. And angry Fury immediately went back to the sole escape pod and traveled back down to Earth.
A piece of metal broke off from the ceiling and damaged the tractor beam generator, causing the ship to drop the asteroids Sledge was collecting.
"No! My asteroids!" Sledge cried, as they all fell down to the planet below.
Sledge peered through the hole in the side of his ship as it, and its remaining crew, uncontrollably flew off into the vast expanse of space, where they would be for the next 65 million years.
"I'll make you pay for this, Keeper!" Sledge yelled as they were spirited away. "Even if it's the last thing I do!"

Back down on Earth, the moment between Keeper and his dinosaur friends was ruined by Fury angrily yelling, "KEEPER!"
Keeper wasn't confused at all. He knew exactly why Fury was so mad.
Fury drew his sword and charged at him, and Keeper immediately stepped back, his staff raised in a defensive position, but he didn't have to do anything. The t-rex quickly stepped in front of Keeper and roared right in Fury's face.
This one last gesture of friendship allows the other ten dinosaurs to quickly run away, all of them knowing that Fury was an enemy.
Just then, an asteroid fell to the ground very near Fury, and then a second one. There was a moment where everyone and everything immediately paused in what they were doing, as they watched a third asteroid hit the ground, and when they looked up to the sky, where they were falling from, it was clear that there was more on the way.
It was a meteor shower.
Sledge had collected so many asteroids, that were currently falling, that there was no way to outrun the massive amount of destruction that they would inevitably cause.
Fury immediately turned tail and ran away, and the regular dinosaurs (the ones not bonded to Energems) did the same, all of them searching for cover.
In the midst of all this panic, for the first time in a long time, Keeper felt strangely at peace. He was sick and tired of being on the run, of having to be weary of everyone he met. He was pissed off at the fact that his most trusted dinosaur friends had to die for his mistakes.
Part of him wanted to die so he didn't have to do this anymore, and the other part of him knew he had to live on to protect the Energems.
But all of him trusted the dinosaurs with his life. He knew they and the Energems were safe. So he just closed his eyes just as a giant shockwave came barreling towards him.
Somehow, he felt that facing this death with dignity was a perfect end for him.

Griffin Ranch, Greenwood, Montana
May 25, 2017
In the modern era, 28-year-old Matthew Griffin rode on his trusty horse, Graphite, around his family's ranch. All was as it should be: green and peaceful.
He stopped when he passed by the barn when he heard it again, the sounds of swordplay (or fencing, to be more specific).
He used his rope to open the barn door, where, sure enough, there was his 19-year-old brother Riley, hiding a fencing saber behind his back, while their old dog Rubik was lying down on the barn floor.
"Hey, Matt," Riley said, clearly embarrassed that he'd been caught again.
Matt sighed, "Playing Three Musketeers again?" He never understood Riley's sudden interest in fencing, or where it came from. He just knew that it only started after receiving the first letter from Emily about three years ago (after she left for Panorama City).
Riley immediately looked annoyed at his older brother's choice of words, "I'm not playing."
"Right, right," Matt corrected himself. "It's a 'hobby'. Sorry, but now's not the right time. You need to first-"
"-clean the chicken coop," the brothers said simultaenously. Both of them missed Rubik seemingly sensing something and leaving the barn.
"I know," Riley sighed, sounding and looking defeated.
Matt shrugged before steering Graphite away from the barn and onto the chores he still needed to do before calling it a day.
Riley stayed in the barn. "Welp. Time to spend some quality time with the chickens. Let's go, Rubik." He turned to face the spot where Rubik was lying, but he found nothing. "Rubik?"
Where did that dog go?
Riley left the barn, and his fencing saber there, and crossed the vast expanse of the Griffin Ranch, trying to find his beloved dog. As he got closer to the neighboring forest, he heard barking, and it got louder and louder as he approached the treeline.
He rolled his eyes as he entered the forest. Rubik must've smelled a wild deer or something.
But as he swerved around a few trees and hopped over a small wire fence, before coming to a small clearing (where his favorite rock was), he discovered that Rubik was barking at a lion-looking monster, excessively.
"Quiet, you filthy furball! Or I'll shut you up!" To the point where the monster had a sword out, emblazed with lightning, and was about to strike down the dog.
Riley immediately felt his body burn bright with anger. No. One. Touched. His. Dog.
In a split second, he leaned over, grabbed a nearby metal rod from the wire fence, and used it to block the monster's frightening sword.
"What?!"
"Don't touch my dog!" Riley growled out, as Rubik clearly sensed danger and ran away as fast as he could.
Riley shoved back against the monster's strength, before it smacked him away. Riley quickly regained his footing, realizing that this monster was obviously stronger than him.
"You, a puny human, dare to challenge me?!" the monster scoffed, but charged at him nonetheless.
It swung, and Riley dodged. The respective weapons clashed, before Riley used his fencing expertise to thrust against the monster's armored chest. A clang, and nothing.
It was still standing.
Riley slashed at it twice more, but still nothing. The monster simply laughed before it violently hit Riley, sending him flying.
Riley didn't know how he regained his footing that time, but he did, just as the monster smacked its sword to the ground, sending bursts of lightning to him. He managed to dodge the first one. He tried his best to block the second with his rod, and succeeded.
But the monster didn't let up.
The third was too much for him and sent him to the ground, and the rod flying.
Riley heard a rock shatter, and he looked up to see that the rod had smashed into his favorite rock to sit on.
But it also revealed a dinosaur fossil within it, along with a green colored gemstone.
The monster seemed to recognize it immediately, as it gasped, "The Green Energem!"
The...Energem (apparently)...faintly glowed, and Riley immediately got the feeling (from it) that this monster was not supposed to have its hands on it. He heard this gemstone call out to him, telling him to hurry and come over there.
Riley decided to listen to it, and he immediately got to his feet and went over to the rock face (or fossil, now). He grabbed the rod and tried to pull it out, but it wouldn't budge.
"Out of my way, puny human!" the monster growled. "That belongs to me!"
Riley faintly heard the Energem tell him, 'I belong to no one', and suddenly a burst of green energy came from it and traveled up the rod and directly into Riley.
He immediately felt an exillerating rush of energy as the energy seeped all throughout his entire body, as well as the rod he was trying to get. So, this was why the gem told him to hurry over here. So it could do this.
When the light faded, Riley found he was able to easily take out the rod and also discovered that the Energem had transformed it into an actual sword.
"What?!" the monster asked, and Riley forgot that all of this had happened right in front of it.
Riley looked at the sword (colored yellow, with some black highlights), studying it. He was snapped out of this by the monster yelling.
"Enough playing around!"
The boy got ready to fight, "Oh, I'm not playing."
The two charged at each other again, and this time, Riley felt much better than before, being able to actually keep up with the monster and also landing in a few good hits as well. He also found himself getting better when he turned the sword around in his hand, so that he held it in a backwards grip, like this was more his personal style.
One last green-colored slash and the monster was sent to the ground.
Riley knew that he had to get out of there. As much stronger as he was now, he knew that he and this monster couldn't fight here forever.
Fortunately, the perfect chance came when it shot another burst of lightning at him, and when Riley went to block it, the attack ricochueted of his new sword and hit a nearby tree branch, causing it to break off and land on the monster's head.
Riley knew this was his chance, as he quickly ran away, grabbing the Green Energem on the way.
The monster didn't follow him.
Now on the outskirts of the forest, the ranch back in sight and Rubik sniffing at his fingers, Riley was able to breathe a sigh of relief.
He then took the Energem out of his pocket and studied it.
What was this thing? How did that monster know what it was? Why did he see a velociraptor glowing green when he looked at it now?
And how, in all his 19 years of being here, on this ranch, sitting on that rock face, did he never realize that this was here since the dinosaur age?
~B~R~E~A~K~~T~H~E~~C~H~A~I~N~S~~T~H~A~T~~D~I~V~I~D~E~~D~I~N~O~~C~H~A~R~G~E~~R~E~D~O~
It was later that evening, and Matt looked in Riley's backpack, laid next to Riley's moped, to see where Riley had decided to visit for the summer.
"He's going to a dinosaur museum?" Matt asked. Not once did his little brother ever have an interest in dinosaurs. It was always science and engineering. He smiled, though, at the thought of Riley getting out of Montana for a while.
Riley never did like the idea of spending all his life on this ranch, so Matt was glad that his little brother was finally getting to spread his wings for a bit.
Speaking of whom, he, their parents, and Rubik walked up to where Matt was.
"You really want to go through with this?" Matt asked his brother.
"It's only for the summer," their mom said.
Their dad turned to their younger son, "When you return, then we can talk about where you want to go to college. We know you don't want to stay here all your life."
"Thanks for understanding," Riley said with a smile.
"Mom and Dad're right," Matt said. "Go spread your wings. I just hope this thing can make it all the way to California in one piece." He motioned to Riley's moped. "I checked the tire pressure and the engines, but here's the old manual if you need it." He handed the said booklet to Riley.
"Big bro, I'll be fine," Riley replied, just as Rubik whined. He knelt down and said, "Aww, I'm going to miss you too, buddy."
He then stood up, as his mother said, "Stay safe, Riley. I love you."
"I love you too," Riley hugged his mother, before moving onto his dad. He then turned to Matt, "And I'll miss those chicken coops."
Matt shot him an amused glare, before wrapping him a hug as well.
Riley let go, grabbed his backpack, and started up the moped, eventually leaving the ranch behind.
His family was great, and they understood that this was something that he needed to do.
But what they didn't know was that the power the Energem had given him was leading him there. And this was something he didn't understand.
But he was hoping that this summer would help him.

Tyler Navarro had arrived at his destination, and he was currently in the parking lot and the keys were out of the engine and in his hand. But he didn't get out of his jeep.
He instead checked his phone.
No New Messages
Tyler willed himself not to cry. Why did that fight have to happen? Why did he let it happen? Why did she close herself off to possibilities that their dad was still alive?
He knew, and understood, that the most likely thing that had happened was that he was dead, but they never found James Navarro's body. That alone spoke volumes to Tyler, and he was determined to find his dad, or, if he really was gone, then find out what happened to him.
He quickly shook off the guilt and though really talking to himself, told her, "I'm doing this for you and Mom."
After a moment of silence, Tyler then got out of the car, making sure he had his bag and father's notebook with him before he went instead.

Crystal Kay Park, Amber Beach, California
No matter what other people tried to tell him, Chase Randall really did enjoy hanging out with his friend Callie McLoughlin. In fact, his favorite part of the day was sitting on their bench in the park, just talking to each other.
You see, Callie was partially deaf, and the reason Chase himself to knew sign language (ASL, to be more specific). She had hearing aids, and she could actually hear well enough that she didn't need to sign all the time, but she found herself signing while speaking out of habit sometimes anyway.
She had short, wavy brunette hair and bright blue eyes, and spoke in a light Irish accent (because she grew up here in America, but her older brother Seán was the one who taught her how to speak). She was also rather short for her age (and telling her so only resulted in a solid elbow to your gut).
Callie was telling him about how well her finals were going, "I just don't know what I'm goin' to do fer my Creative Writin' final."
"You'll figure it out," Chase told her. "You do have a way with words, after all."
She smiled at the praise, right as Chase's cellphone buzzed. It was long, which signaled a call. He quickly picked up after seeing that it was from his boss.
"Hello, Miss Morgan. Yeah, I'm nearby." He paused as he listened to what she had to say. "Sure thing. I'll be there in fifteen minutes." He then hung up, and turned to Callie, "I just got called into work. Sorry."
"It's alright," she shrugged, as he grabbed his shoulder bag. He considered himself very lucky that she understood. As he got up from the bench, she added, "Good luck findin' whatever ye guys're lookin' fer."
The way she said this made him halt immediately. She had said it as if it was obvious, and this left him speechless. But not out of surprise.
He knew that she had excellent observing skills, because she couldn't rely on her hearing, so she had learned to instead rely on her other senses, especially her sight.
No, he was speechless because she had somehow figured out his biggest secret.
He cleared his throat, and said, "That's not what I'm doing, Callie," as he walked away, his skateboard under his arm.
He didn't see her smile, or hear her say, "Ye can't fool me, Hotshot."

Here Chase was, thirty minutes later, transferring on a cart the tricera fossil samples that Kendall had tested for a location of the thing Callie mentioned that he was searching for.
Well, Callie was kinda right. He was searching for something, but it wasn't just him that was searching for it.
He was currently heading to the cafe, in order get some water for the expedition (for him and Koda). He had his headphones on, a clear sign to other people that he didn't want to be disturbed.
But he did work here, so it didn't surprise him when he felt a hand on his shoulder as he passed by the t-rex exhibit.
He took off his headphones and put on his best costumer service face, and was pleasantly surprised when the said 'costumer', a boy the same age as him, first said, "Sorry for disturbing you, but I couldn't find anybody who had an answer."
"How can I help you, mate?" he asked.
The boy showed Chase the pages his notebook was open to, "Do you know where the Sampson Caves are? My dad went exploring there once, and he drew a map of it."
Chase gently grabbed the edge of the notebook to get a better look at the pages, which contained the mentioned map. The name did sound familiar.
"Of course, the Sampson Caves," he remembered. "I was on the expedition that found that t-rex fossil there." He motioned to the t-rex skeleton behind them. "It's about..." he tried to remember the map Kendall made him memorize, "...fifty miles north of the city. Once you leave the city limits, there's a sign that points you in the right direction. It's a little hard to miss."
"Awesome," the boy shot a smile that could power a thousand suns. "Thanks."
"No problem," Chase said, returning the smile with one of his own.
Tyler watched the worker put his headphones back on and walk away with the cart he was pushing. He smiled, not only to show his gratitude, but also because the worker had given him hope. The Sampson Caves did exist, and the worker remembered because he himself had been there to extract the t-rex fossil they were standing in front of.
He pulled out his phone and took a selfie with the said fossil, before leaving the museum.
Meanwhile, Chase continued on his way to the cafe. Once outside, a duo of girls flirtatiously greeted him. He shyly smiled back at them before continuing on his way.
He left the cart outside as he went in, heading straight for the kitchen.
One of the waitresses, Shelby Watkins, there noticed him. She saw Chase pour water into two large water jugs, which meant he was about to go on another dig, something she's always wanted. Her mind had apparently wandered, because she was walking when she tripped on a chair leg. She managed to regain her footing, but one of the rolls she was carrying on her tray fell into a costumer's soup.
The costumer cleared her throat, and Shelby winced as she realized that they were Kendall Morgan, her boss. "Shelby," was all she said.
"Sorry..." Shelby hoped that this wouldn't make her lose her job and was glad that her break was very soon. She just had to deliver this to the right table.
She delivered the food to the wrong table, actually, but she sold it with confidence, because all she really cared about right now was keeping up with Chase, who was currently leaving the cafe, two filled, and sealed, water jugs underneath his arms.
Chase made it back to his cart and he placed the two filled water jugs on it. As he was about to leave, he heard a familiar voice call out, "Chase, wait!"
"Shelby," he greeted her, as she caught up to him. "I know what you're going to ask, and the answer is no. It's-"
"-museum policy," Shelby finished for him. She sighed, "It was worth a shot." She decided it was best to change the subject, "So how's your girlfriend?"
Chase raised an eyebrow in confusion, "'Girlfriend'?"
"Yeah, you know," Shelby was smiling, as if she knew something he didn't, "the girl you're always with."
Chase felt his face get red, as he was quick to deny it, "Callie is just a friend." Besides, he wasn't the romance guy.
Shelby shook her head as she looked down at the fossils on the cart. "Wait, you're digging up my favorite dinosaur! It's right here! See?" A smile on her face, she pointed to her name tag, which had a graphic of a triceratops on it.
Chase offered her a sympathetic smile, "Look, Shelby, if it were up to me, you'd be in charge of it. I mean, you know more about dinosaurs than anyone else I know. But I'm not the one in charge. Miss Morgan is. That means that I have no say at all." He shrugged, "Sorry."
Shelby hung her head as he walked away, cart in front of him.

Out on the loading docks, Shelby found Chase loading the truck with the water jugs he filled fifteen minutes earlier, and was glad that they hadn't left yet. She felt deep down that she needed to go on this dig. That was why she had, in her hand, a takeout bag, filled with a Bronto Burger, rare, for Koda. Maybe she could convince him.
"Hey, Shelby," Koda Tohca greeted her with his classic friendly smile. "How are you today?"
"I'm good. I have a present for you," Shelby replied, before holding up the takeout bag. "Just let me go on the dig and it's all yours."
Koda's smile (if it was even possible) got wider as he took the bag from her and began eating the burger right away.
A hopeful Shelby asked him mid-bite, "So I can go?"
But when he gave her a confused look, she just gave up. She instead walked away and sat on top of one of the nearby crates.
"Man, I'm never gonna get to go," she sighed. She gasped aloud in shock when the crate below her suddenly began to move. As it stopped, she looked around to see that Koda had picked it up, while she was sitting on it, and set it on the truck.
When did Koda get that strong?
That was when she noticed Kendall Morgan walking onto the scene, "Miss Morgan!"
Kendall only acknowledged her with, "I believe your party in booth four is missing a dinner roll." Shelby opened her mouth to speak, but Kendall cut her off, "I know what you're going to ask, and the answer is no. It's-"
"-museum policy," the two both said at once.
Shelby's shoulders slumped in defeat, but she didn't give up, "Triceratops heads grew to be seven feet long. Only two of the horns were really bone. One was just ligament." Silence from Kendall's end. "Give me a shot, Miss Morgan, please? I know as much about dinosaurs as anyone on your crew!"
Kendall turned around to face her, "For your information, Chase and Koda are highly trained museum personnel."
The two turned to see Chase trying to spin his skateboard on his head and Koda with his face covered in barbeque sauce, sucking some of it off his fingers.
"They hide it well," Shelby sassed.
She was surprised when Kendall flatly replied, "You have no idea," as Koda gave off a loud belch. She turned back to Shelby, "You do have a shift to get back to, yes?"
And that was the end of that conversation.
Shelby could only watch as Chase and Koda got into the truck and drive off. But she was undeterred.
Shelby quickly jumped into the truckbed, using the cover to hide herself as she stowed away.

Sampson Cave System, Amber Beach, California
Tyler, now parked outside the Sampson Caves, once again checked his phone before he got out of his Jeep.
No New Messages
Don't feel so bad, Tyler told himself to make himself feel better. It was a big fight, and evitable, now that he thought about it.
He just hated it whenever she was mad at him.
He sighed, reminding himself that it was her and Mom that he was going this for, before grabbing his gear and leaving his Jeep.
He felt hopeful and slightly apprehensive as he entered the cave and used his rope to climb down from the steep wall that greeted him first. This was a volcanic cave (he could see the lava in the distance), and any part of this cave would be a bad spot to miss a step.
Once his feet were on solid ground, he continued on, hoping to find clues about where father went, or currently was. The best way to do that was to retrace his dad's steps.
He paused for a moment when he heard a growl, very loud and very close to him. Was there a wild animal here in the cave with him?
He turned around, only to see black-cloaked figure right in front of him, only illuminated by the light attached to his helmet as well as its golden eyes.
Tyler turned around quickly and ran, the figure chasing him. After running for a few seconds, he decided to take cover in a narrow passage. He found a bone there and picked it up, before hiding his helmet light with his hand.
Literally a split second later, the figure ran past him.
Tyler sighed in relief and gently dropped the bone he was holding. He then turned around to see a dinosaur fossil.
A t-rex fossil, just like the one the worker he talked to said he'd found and dug up here. Knowing this, Tyler suspected that this cave system was once a t-rex hotspot.
But he also quickly noticed something else, something with a faint red glow embedded in the t-rex's skull.
He pulled out his pocket knife and managed to cut the thing out. As it dropped in his hand, he asked himself what it was. Was it a crystal of some kind?
But it was glowing (faintly, but glowing nonetheless). So it had to be something otherworldly.
Tyler turned around and exited the narrow passage, back to his original route, thankful that his knowledge of navigating narrow cave systems helped him elude whatever that cloaked figure was.
~B~R~E~A~K~~T~H~E~~C~H~A~I~N~S~~T~H~A~T~~D~I~V~I~D~E~~D~I~N~O~~C~H~A~R~G~E~~R~E~D~O~
The dig site was only a couple of miles away from Sampson Caves.
Shelby came out of hiding after Koda picked up a crate from the back of the truck. "'Here I am. Now you have to give me a job on the dig'," she rehearsed, before smiling to herself and wringing her hands together. "Yeah, that'll do it."
She leaned against the crate Koda had just placed just as someone else took it away. Scared, Shelby went back into hiding, just in time to witness a black cloaked figure search the back of the truck for something.
She lightly gasped as the figure picked up the small crate that Chase had placed in the truck earlier, the same crate that had somehow told Shelby that it was important, and opened it. After seeing something pink glow inside, it closed the crate, laughing, and ran away with it.
Scared out of her mind (that thief was not human), Shelby got out from under her cover and stood up on the back of the truck, calling out, "Hey! Guys! He's getting away!"
But the sounds of the machines prevented them from hearing her, letting the thief continuing running.
It looked like she had to do this herself. After taking off her waitress gear (sans her nametag; that would take too long), she got off the truck and ran after the figure herself.
She chased it all the way to a small clearing, where it stopped for a moment and placed the crate on a rock, saying, "Yes! I finally found one!" Shelby ran by to create noise in a specific direction. Just as she knew it would, it immediately snapped to attention. "Who's there?!" it demanded, turning away from the crate. After seeing nothing, it sighed, "I must be hearing things."
Unfortunately, it turned around just as Shelby had grabbed the crate. It lunged for her, but she managed to slip away and started running back to the truck, back to Chase and Koda, who she hoped would help her.
"Get back here!" the figure shot blasts at her, that almost felt like ice. Shelby found it miraculous that she didn't stumble when they hit the ground around her.
But then one hit the ground right behind her, causing her to go flying and the crate to land farther away from her.
As she writhed on the ground in pain, the figure got closer to the crate, "No one steals from me."
"Think again!" Shelby heard a boy's voice call out, before the said male swooped in, Tarzan-style, and snatched the crate away before the figure could get it.
He landed right next to Shelby, who immediately found herself falling for him already. He was so handsome, and his smile was even better.
"You okay?" he asked her, as he knelt beside her and offered her a hand to help her up, which she gratefully took. "Hi, I'm Tyler Navarro. Nice to meet you, um," he looked at her name badge, "Shelby, uh, Triceratops." He smiled. "Catchy name."
Flustered, she asked, "W-Where'd you come from?"
"Oh, you know," he answered, "just in the neighborhood."
"There is no...neighborhood," she replied. Was this his attempt at flirting with her? If so, it was definitely working.
Tyler only smiled, before handing her the crate, "I believe this is yours."
"Thanks," she said, before the figure got back on its feet.
"I don't have to hide!" This caused the two young adults to get into defensive positions. It took off its cloak, revealing an ice monster underneath. "Time to destroy you!"
"What is that thing?" Shelby asked.
"Don't know," Tyler replied. "Met him in a cave. But he sure wants that box, doesn't he?" He reached behind him for various items in his backpack. He first pulled out a banana, which he was confused by. He threw it away, before reaching back again, this time pulling out his boxers.
He quickly looked at Shelby, who was obviously trying not to laugh, before nervously tossing them away and reaching back once more, this time pulling out a shovel.
He sighed, relieved, before resuming his defensive stance.
"What, you gonna dig us an escape tunnel?" Shelby asked, half-sassing him, half-genuinely confused. No, Tyler wanted to say, to fight. Besides, digging a tunnel would take too long.
But Tyler didn't get a chance to reply because the monster blasted at them, "Enough!"
Tyler was glad that the shovel blocked its lasers. Feeling more confident, he stood up taller. This could actually work.
The monster shot more lasers blasts at them, which Tyler all deflected with his shovel weapon. After sending one of the lasers back at it, sending it to the ground, Tyler cheered, "Score!"
"Nice hit!" he heard Shelby say.
Both of their smiles faded when they noticed that the shovel's blade was now reduced to a burning stub.
The monster got back up, "You'll pay for that."
Tyler threw the stubbed shovel (now useless) away, and backed off, telling Shelby, "Your turn for an idea."
Shelby had decided that since physical combat wouldn't be enough to save them, maybe some mind games would work. She stepped forward, tightly clutching the handles of the crate, "Be careful. If you fire at us, you might destroy your precious...thing in this crate."
Tyler turned to her, whispering, "You know what's in the crate?"
She whispered back, panicking, "No clue!" She had never looked inside of it. She just knew that it liked to glow a pink color.
The monster replied with, "Let me assure you. What I want will survive, but you puny humans won't." It blasted them again, multiple times, this time sending them both flying and forcing Shelby to drop the crate and Tyler his bag.
Both containers opened (or broke) to reveal to the monster two of things he was looking for, "Two Energems?! Looks like this is my lucky day!"
Tyler and Shelby both looked at the Energems (that's what they were apparently called), only to find them glowing, and both heard two voices tell them, urge them, to hurry up and grab the Energems first.
And the two young adults obeyed, both feeling that this course of action was their only chance at survival.
The monster saw them reach for the Energems, "Don't even think about it," and it immediately sent an ice wave at them, freezing them both right as their fingers touched the two Energems, Tyler touching the red one and Shelby reaching for the pink. The monster laughed, "Ha! I win, humans! Now, time to smash you two in a million pieces!"
But right as it said this, he saw red energy coursing through the boy, and pink energy flowing through the girl, both energy sources being the Energems themselves. The glowing eventually became strong enough to break the ice itself, freeing the two.
Tyler and Shelby immediately stood up and looked at the Energems that had apparently chosen to save them, Tyler seeing a t-rex glowing with red energy and Shelby seeing a triceratops glowing with pink energy.
In their hands formed guns made of stone. Shelby asked a question that was on both of their minds, "What is this?"
"I have no idea," Tyler said. "But it looks like this goes in here." He placed the Red Energem into a slot in his gun, and the stone broke off to reveal a yellow-colored gun with black and red highlights. Shelby followed his example, but with the Pink Energem.
Tyler spun the revolving chamber a little, only to let out a shot that almost hit Shelby and accidentally hit the monster.
"Nice shooting, tex!" Shelby growled.
"Sorry!" Tyler immediately replied. "I don't know how to use this thing."
"What'd you go?" she asked.
Tyler spun the barrel again, "I don't know. I started spinning the thing and it started working, I guess."
Again, Shelby followed his example, this time spinning the chamber repeatedly, before the two mutually decided to fire again, as the monster got back up, "You two are ruining everything!"
But this time, the shots that came out where shaped like a t-rex and a triceratops. And they were coming directly at the two. "Look out!" Tyler said, as he pulled Shelby down for cover, but when the shots hit them, it didn't hurt.
It felt exhilarating.
The two looked down at the themselves, only to see them transformed into spandex suits just like the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers they grew up watching the news for glimpses of as kids.
The monster was outraged, "What?! They've become Rangers?!"
Tyler felt the helmet he was wearing, "You look great, Shelby! What happened to us?"
"I don't know," she replied. "I feel a surge of power."
"Me too. It's awesome!"
"Give me the Energems!" the monster demanded.
"No way!" Tyler said, before turning to Shelby, "I bet we could take him now." He held his hand out for her to take. "As long as we stick together."
"Together," she agreed, and took his hand, a gesture of alliance, before the two assumed attack positions and leapt up when the monster shot more blasts at them.
Tyler attacked first, before Shelby followed up with a rapid jab of kicks from the air. It was like a dance, a duet. One attacked, before the second followed up with their own attack.
"Double Punch!" Their combined power forced it to the ground.
"You're right!" Shelby said, as they shared a high five. "This is awesome!"
"Definitely!"
"I've never felt such power-!" Shelby was cut off by a sudden earthquake. They turned around to see a giant mechanical, red-colored, t-rex suddenly stomp onto the scene.
"What is that?!" Tyler asked, as it came closer.
"I think it's a...t-rex?!" Shelby replied, before she and Tyler were sent flying to the ground in opposite directions, de-morphing on the way, just as the thing walked past them.
The monster just stood there, "Impossible! It's the T-Rex Zord!" The T-Rex Zord simply picked up the monster in its jaws and hurled it off into the distance. "Let me go, you lizard!" the monster said, as he was thrown far away.
Meanwhile, the t-rex left as quickly as it came. Tyler and Shelby both smiled with relief.
Tyler quickly stood up and ran over to Shelby, offering her another helping hand up, "You alright?"
Shelby took his hand and got to her feet, asking, "Did we just fight an abominable snowman and almost get trampled by a t-rex?"
Tyler nodded, "Yep."
Shelby laughed in disbelief, "Okay. Just checking."
Their reveries were broken when they heard a familiar truck driving away. Shelby immediately remembered that she had stowed away on it, and stepped forward, "Wait, Koda! Chase!" She stopped when she realized that they weren't going to stop. "And there goes my ride." She turned to Tyler, who was reaching into his back pocket, "You had a rope and a shovel. You wouldn't happen to have a car, would you?"
Tyler held up his keys, jiggling them with a smile, as Shelby sighed with relief.

So here they were, driving back to Shelby's workplace, the museum, as the power within them given by the Energems (apparently) was telling them to go there for answers.
Shelby was looking at Tyler's dad's journal, "So, this is your dad's journal?"
"Yeah," Tyler replied, not taking his eyes off the road. "He disappeared ten years ago on an expedition. No clues at all. He just vanished. I miss him. Everyone back home does too. But whether it's tomorrow or ten years from now, whether he's dead or alive, I'm going to find him."
"So you were in the caves, looking for clues," Shelby realized.
"Exactly," Tyler confirmed. "He did leave one major clue, though. He said that some creature was stalking him the moment he entered the caves."
"You think that ice freak was it?" she asked.
"Not at all," he was quick to reply. "Because Dad actually drew in his journal what the creature looked like." He noticed that Shelby was on the mentioned page, and he pointed to it. "That one."
It was a scary lion monster, and Shelby shuttered, "Yikes. Anybody would be lucky to survive an encounter with that. Makes the monster we met look like the tooth fairy."
"Tell me about it," Tyler said. "That thing always haunts my nightmares, but it's the only clue I currently have about my dad's whereabouts."
Shelby continued looking through the journal, "You know, you didn't have to jump in back in there to help me." He glanced over at her, before turning back to the road. "But I'm glad you did." His smile grew wider. "Thank you."
"Don't sweat it," he replied. "My dad used to say that helping is always the right thing to do."
Shelby had turned to a page that housed a photograph of a happy family, a father, a mother, and two young kids, a boy and a girl. "Is this you guys?"
"Yeah," Tyler said, knowing that she was looking at the one single photograph he had chosen to take with him. "Me, with my dad, my mom, and my little sister, Sierra."
Shelby smiled, "You guys look cute together. I hope I get to meet them all one day."
Tyler only chuckled.
They passed by a shroud of trees, from which the lion creature emerged, sniffing at the air.
"I smell Energems nearby," he growled.

Curio, the lonely Spy of Luck, repeatedly hit Iceage with her hammer, as her Vivix companions, plus Stingrage and Meteor, looked on, "How could you do that?! You know the rules! No one is allowed to see your face! Explain yourself!"
"I'm sorry, Lady Curio!" Iceage apologized. "I uncloaked because two humans were keeping me from gathering the Red and Pink Energems that I managed to find, and I planned to recloak after destroying them, but then the scariest thing happened! They turned into Rangers!"
Curio, and everybody else, was caught off-guard, and her hammering stopped, "W-What? The Energems bonded to them?!" Iceage could only nod. She growled in frustration, "Iceage, go back out there and recover those Energems. Take all the help you need." A few nearby Vivix nodded in agreement, ready to go. "And this time, don't worry about your identity. Just focus on get those Energems!"

Tyler and Shelby were getting closer to the city, but not quite there yet. Shelby held up the two Energems, "Why would these things be in dinosaur fossils?"
"Maybe the dinosaurs ate 'em," Tyler offered.
Shelby shot him a look, "You can't be serious."
"You have a better theory, Miss Dino-It-All?" Tyler shot back, but then his smile faded when he remembered something, "Hey, Shelby, can you do me a huge favor? Could you check my phone for any new messages?"
"Sure," Shelby agreed without complaints, which Tyler appreciated. She picked up his phone, which was charging on the dashboard, and read, "'No New Messages'. Sorry..." She noticed his depressed expression. "You expecting a call from someone?"
Tyler was quiet as he replied, "...I guess not..."
"May I ask who you're expecting a call from?" Shelby gently pushed.
He sighed, before answering, "Sierra. You know, the sister I mentioned earlier. We're very close, or were, rather."
Shelby was quick to catch that choice of wording, "What happened? You guys have a falling out?"
Tyler reluctantly revealed, "We...had a disagreement on Dad's whereabouts. She's adamant that he won't come back. I don't blame her, though. Ever since he disappeared, Dad's always been a touchy subject for all of us."
"You two should make up as soon as possible," Shelby advised. "Even if you don't agree on whether or not your dad is still alive. If she won't call you, Tyler, then you call her."
Tyler took a deep breath before nodding, "Yeah, you're right. Thanks."
"No problem," she said, before seeing a young adult (same age as them) on the side of the road, seemingly stuck there. "Hey, see that?"
"Yeah..." Tyler replied, already pulling over to help.
"What was it your dad said?" Shelby asked.
"'Helping is always the right thing to do'," they both said simultaneously.
Riley looked up from his broken down moped at the Jeep as it slowed to a halt, and the driver asked, "You need a hand?"
"Oh, no thanks, I think I found the problem," Riley replied, holding up the manual his brother gave him. "I just have to read the instructions, and-"
He was cut off by a passing big rig, and the wind it caused as it went by sent all the manual's pages flying away. Riley simply blinked, as the driver and his passenger were trying not to laugh.
And that's how he found himself riding in the backseat, his moped attached to the back. The driver was Tyler Navarro, and the passenger was Shelby Watkins, and he had just introduced himself to them as Riley Griffin, and told them where he was from.
Shelby commented, "If I grew up on a ranch, I'd never leave."
"Yeah, how great is that?" Tyler asked. "Cowboys and round-ups..."
Riley smiled at how naive they were, "More like fixing fences and cleaning pig pens. It gets kinda restricting sometimes."
Tyler stopped the Jeep as they came upon a woman on the side of the road, waving for help, "Hey, you guys see that?"
Shelby and Riley both felt adrenaline rush into their veins as they all noticed that the car she was driving was flipped over, and there was someone underneath it.
The woman looked very grateful that they had decided to stop and help, "Help, please! My husband is trapped underneath the car and I'm not strong enough to push it off!"
The trio quickly got out of the Jeep and ran over to the car. They knelt beside the husband, and while Shelby and Tyler were reassuring the man, Riley looked at the liquid leaking onto the grass below. He let a drop or two hand on his fingers so he could study it.
"Guys, we need to hurry," he immediately told his new friends. "It's leaking gas."
Tyler and Shelby immediately sprung into action and tried to push the car off, while Riley tried to pull the man away. No avail. No matter how hard they tried to push, nothing budged.
Tyler smacked the car in anger and frustration, before reassuring Shelby and Riley, "We can do this. Together. On three." The other two got into position, all three of them pushing now. "One, two, three!"
In their pockets, the crystals that had chosen to save them began to glow.
The woman could only watch as the three young adults somehow managed to lift the car and send it flying several feet into the air, where it exploded, while everyone down below was safe.
After the husband thanked them and the wife ushered her husband away from the scene, presumable to a hospital where the man needed to be right now, Tyler, Shelby, and Riley all took the gems out of their pockets and held them up, all three of them glowing with power.
As the glowing faded, Tyler turned to Riley, "Let me guess. You're on your way to the dinosaur museum, too?"
Riley could only nod.

Amber Beach Dinosaur Museum, Amber Beach, California
As Tyler pulled into the museum parking lot, Shelby told him, "Head to the loading docks. Around the back." As he did so, she said, "We need to find Chase and Koda."
"Who?" Riley asked.
At the same time, Tyler asked, "The same people who left you behind? Why?"
Shelby then explained her reasons, "Because I just realized something. Chase and Koda had placed the crate this pink stone was in on their truck, which indicates that it was something they were looking for. Therefore, there's a high chance they know what these are. We have to find them, and the loading docks are the always the first place they visit whenever they come back from a dig." She then realized something else, "And now that I think about it, whenever Miss Morgan plans a dig, it's always Chase and Koda that go. No one else is allowed to. That 'museum policy' she always talks about...I've never heard that in complete detail, either. It just says that if you're not allowed to go on a dig, then that's that. You're not allowed to argue with or stalk the people that do get to go."
"That's pretty suspicious," Riley agreed, as Tyler parked by the loading docks.
Shelby quickly spotted Chase and Koda walking away from the area. "That's them. Hurry!" She quickly exited the Jeep, and Tyler and Riley quickly followed. "Chase! Koda! Wait up!" But they kept walking.
"I very hungry," Koda was saying, as the duo walked between two tall stacks of crates.
"Koda, you're always hungry," Chase replied, just as the trio lost sight of them.
Shelby ran to the place they just went through, the other two hot on her heels, only to find more crates, and a large plastic dinosaur head.
"Look at that," Tyler said, fascinated by the dinosaur head. He then tossed Shelby his phone as he climbed the crates and into the dinosaur's mouth, "Take a pic for me?"
She caught the phone perfectly, but was not happy about it, "Really? Now?"
"Just do it," Tyler replied, posing, before accidentally twisted one of the teeth, and suddenly Tyler was sliding down into the abyss.
Riley immediately jumped up and observed it, "Wow. A secret passage!" And he quickly followed, a smile on his face.
Shelby took a moment to remember that this was the area that Chase and Koda disappeared in, and this was probably their best lead to find them. She then followed Riley and Tyler, hearing the trap door close up behind her.

Dino Base, Amber Beach Dinosaur Museum, Amber Beach, California
The room Shelby came upon at the end of the slide was one she had never seen the likes of before. Tyler and Riley were standing at the center of it all, just as awestruck as she was.
"I think it's some kind of...secret base," Riley observed. "There's a lab, a picnic table, and a couch. Everything."
"I've been serving burgers here for a year," Shelby commented, as the three starting walking around, "and I never knew this was down here."
Tyler noticed something near the entrance, "Hey, check it out." He walked over to it, and Riley and Shelby soon followed. It looked like a small loading dock, with crystals sprouting everywhere. Tyler pointed to two crystals, colored black and blue, that looked exactly like the ones they had found, "They're just like ours. What do you think, Shelby?"
"I think that Chase and Koda definitely know what's going," Shelby replied. "Those gems have to be their's."
Riley brought something up, "Maybe we should try to get ours to do the same."
It was worth a shot. The trio brought out their gems, and they all immediately shot towards the docking crystals, as if the crystals were strong magnetic field that only the gems could pick up.
"It looks like this is where they belong," Tyler surmised.
"Yeah," Riley agreed, before noting the small cylinders below. "They seem to be some kind of power source."
"Sharps minds, you three have," came an unfamiliar voice. The trio turned around in time to see a red mist form into a humanoid reptile. "They are Energems."
Tyler took up a defensive position, "Stay back!"
"Who-" Shelby decided to reword her question, "W-What are you?!"
"At ease. I assure you I am quite harmless, despite my appearance," the creature gently replied. "My name is Keeper. I am the Guardian of the Energems. Energems harness the untold power of the universe." He used his staff to show them his memories. "Long ago, I based myself here on Earth and gave all eleven Energems to dinosaurs, but when the dinosaurs went extinct, the Energems were lost and scattered all around the globe."
"Until..." Tyler looked to Shelby, then to Riley, and back to Keeper, "we found them."
"Exactly," Keeper confirmed. "And the Energems have chosen to bond with you."
The three each got flashes of their respective dinosaurs.
"But...why would they bond with us?" Riley asked.
In that moment, like Shelby had predicted, in stepped Chase and Koda, out of their museum overalls and into casual clothes. "Koda! Chase!" Shelby exclaimed, and then out stepped her boss, "Miss Morgan?"
The three stood by Keeper, as Kendall stepped forward. She told Tyler, "Tyler, you fought to defend a stranger at great risk to yourself. That's why the Red Energem chose you." She turned to Riley, "Your discipline and intelligence, Riley, have given you the skills to protect others. The Green Energem was very wise to choose you." She then turned to Shelby, her smile fading, "Why the Pink Energem chose you...is anyone's guess."
Shelby was very outraged by this, but she was glad, if surprised, when Chase cut in, "Take it easy, Miss Morgan. Shelby fought to save the Pink Energem when she didn't have to."
Shelby paused to process this, "Wait, Chase, you and Koda knew the whole time? Is that why you two weren't worried about losing it?"
Koda and Chase shared a look before nodding their heads.
"We not worried at all," Koda replied, smiling.
Chase added, "It's rather difficult to ignore a giant T-Rex suddenly appearing on the scene out of nowhere."
Tyler smiled, as Riley walked back to the crystal beds, "Energems, dinosaur spirits, and bonding...I'm sorry, but all of this sounds unbelievable."
Kendall merely smiled, before turning to Chase and Koda, "Show them."
The duo stepped forward, before holding out their hands. From behind the other three, the Black and Blue Energems shot out from the crystal beds and into the duo's hands, the Black Energem in Chase's and the Blue Energem in Koda's.
As the stego and parasaur spirits showed themselves breifly, Kendall explained, "Fifteen months ago, I helped Keeper track down Chase after he bonded with his Energem. Six months later, we found Koda."
"Welcome to our team," Koda said, giving them a big smile. He seemed particularly delighted to have new friends.
"You're officially Power Rangers," Chase added.
"I'm sorry," Shelby said. "Power what?"
Keeper cut in, "The Energems have given you magnificent power, and the dinosaur spirits within them give you strength."
"Five Energems have been found," Kendall explained, before pointing to a similar crystal bed on the opposite wall, "but six more are still lost. The search for the remaining ones has been incredibly difficult, so it's a miracle that three were found at the same time. You must use your new powers to find the rest before they fall into evil hands."
Tyler and Riley both nodded.
"Evil hands?" Shelby asked. "You mean that thing we fought in the woods? You expect me to fight monsters? Really? I just want to dig for dinosaur bones, not bond to one!"
Before anybody could say anything, Keeper stepped forward, "Energems bond to those who portray good characters. You saw an injustice and you decided to stop it, despite the great risk it posed to yourself. That alone is proof enough that you are worthy. Now, the world needs your help, because if any of the Energems fall into the wrong hands, it would mean the end of the universe as we know it."
"It's her decision, Keeper," Kendall cut in. "She's right to be hesitant. Clearly this mission to just too dangerous...for a waitress."
"Wait!" Shelby cried out, tired of Miss Morgan dragging her down. "Sure I'm a little scared, but who wouldn't be? You said that search is incredibly difficult, and I know more about dinosaurs than any of you." She saw Chase smile at this. "Fact is...you need me, and I want to help. Besides, helping is always the right thing to do." To this, she saw Tyler smile.
She saw the angry frown on Kendall's face turn to her classic stoic expression, implying that Kendall had accepted this. The woman then changed her tune, from harsh to a professor teaching a class, "When someone bonds to an Energem, their Zord is awakened. The T-Rex Zord you encountered earlier is your Zord, Tyler, the one bonded to the Red Energem just like you."
"That thing that saved me and Shelby was my Zord?" Tyler asked.
Kendall nodded, "Yes. It probably sensed that its Ranger was in trouble and arrived to help." She turned to Chase and Koda, "Now, I created Dino Chargers to help contain and control the power of each Energem." The other turned to the duo when they held up one their own Chargers. "They will energize your weapons and morph you into battle mode. When a Charger runs out of power, we recharge it there." She motioned to the crystal beds. "Only your Energem can re-fill your Chargers."
Just then, the laptop on the nearby table started beeping. Kendall immediately went over to it. "Non-human biosigns," she conveyed. "And they're in the city."
"Non-human?" Riley asked.
"Monsters," was Koda said. The unspoken part of that was 'like the one you encountered earlier'.
Kendall continued, "The T-Rex Zord is heading that way now."
Keeper spoke the final words, "Rangers, now is the time to fight. Fight together, as one. And remember that the Energems chose you for a reason. It is now your job to prove them right."

City Plaza, Amber Beach, California
Callie and her brother, Seán, were walking through the central plaza, on their way home from a long day at the library Seán worked at. The resemblance between the two was also uncanny. They both had the same short brunette hair, the same blue eyes (though Seán also wore glasses), and the same lack of height.
"Seriously, stop bein' so overprotective," Callie said. "I do have my hearing aids, y'know, and sign language."
"I'm just interested in this friend o' yers," Seán replied, in a much thicker Irish accent than his sister's. "When do I get ta meet him?"
"As soon as ye stop glarin' at every boy who meets my eyes," Callie sassed. She then stopped in her tracks as it began to snow. Holding out her hands, she asked, "W-What is this?"
"How can it be snowin'?" Seán asked. "It's summer."
Seán then noticed, above them, a monster made entirely of ice. It was obviously that thing that was causing this sudden coldness. Just then, the monster began to shoot is freeze ray after every citizen down below that was unfortunate enough to get caught in his line of sight.
"Look out!" Seán yelled, as he pushed his little sister out of the way.
Callie hit the ground and looked up just in time to see her beloved brother suddenly become encased in ice. "Seán!" she cried.
She heard a laugh, and looked up to see the same ice monster that Seán saw as it said, "You're next, girl!"
Callie gasped, before getting back to her feet and running away. Once she ducked behind a wall, she was no longer in the monster's line of sight, mostly because it could no longer see her. She breathed a sigh of relief before debating on herself whether or not she should go back.
Seán was back there, trapped in ice, but it then occured to her that people were still walking in that direction, towards the danger.
"Sorry, Seán," she muttered, "but right now, I need ta do what's right."
She then got to her feet and ran to the nearest person, telling them to turn the other way. Many people didn't believe her when she told them there was danger up ahead, but when a giant mechanical t-rex appeared on the scene and started fighting the giant white monsters, they started to take her seriously.
Especially after many of them saw the said machine suddenly freeze entirely, much like Seán and the people Callie had to leave behind.

Iceage and the army of Vivix and Vivizords surrounding him, he pleased that he didn't have to do much of anything to find him. In fact, they found him.
"There you are, Rangers!" he greeted the five of them. "I hope you came to give back the Energems!"
Tyler produced the Red Energem, "You mean this?" He then threw it at the T-Rex Zord, immediately freeing it from its ice prison, and it caught it when it came back, with a smile.
But then Koda said something interesting, "That is not Fury."
"That's for sure," Chase seemed concerned, before shaking it off. "But whoever he is, he's about to learn who we are. It's Morphin' Time!"
He barely got the words out when Shelby interrupted him, going ahead of everybody else, "Just try to keep up, guys. Dino Charger, Ready!"
But nothing happened, as she struggled to activate her Dino Charger, not knowing how.
Trying not to laugh, Koda stepped in and pointed to the button on the top, "You click."
Flustered and embarrassed, Shelby calmed down, and said, "Oh, thanks," as she clicked the button, successfully activating the Charger.
The other four then stepped in and said, "Ready!" before activating their Chargers as well.
The five placed their Chargers in their respective Morphers.
Tyler closed the top of his Morpher, "T-Rex Charger, Engage!"
Chase closed the top of his Morpher, "Para Charger, Engage!"
Koda closed the top of his Morpher, "Stego Charger, Engage!"
Riley closed the top of his Morpher, "Raptor Charger, Engage!"
And finally, Shelby closed the top of her Morpher, "Tricera Charger, Engage!"
Together, they all spun the barrels, "Energize! Unleash the Power!" And together, they fired their Morphers and morphed in a multi-colored flash of light.
"Wow! Cool!" Riley said.
"We look great together," Shelby commented.
"You're still just weak humans!" the monster, Iceage, yelled.
"Humans with dinosaur Spirits!" Tyler shot back, before beginning the roll call. "Tyrannosaurus Rex, Power Ranger Red!"
Chase went next, "Parasaur, Power Ranger Black!"
Koda went next, "Stegosaurus, Power Ranger Blue!"
Riley went next, "Velociraptor, Power Ranger Green!"
Shelby finished it up, "Triceratops, Power Ranger Pink!"
"Dinosaur Might, Ready to Fight! Power Rangers: Dino Charge!"
Iceage growled, "You will all pay for this!"
"Rangers!" came a female's voice that Chase recognized. Funny enough, the girl that spoke ran up directly to Chase. It was Callie, and she looked very frantic. As she stopped, she stumbled, but Chase easily caught her.
"What's wrong?" Chase asked, obviously trying to pretend like he didn't know her.
"I don't know what ye all can do," Callie said, before pointing behind her, making the Rangers realize that the T-Rex Zord wasn't the only thing that Iceage had frozen. "But ye need to find a way to free all of them!"
"Oh no!" Shelby gasped upon seeing all the icicles that housed various humans.
"Thank you, weakling," Iceage said, causing the six to turn back to face him, "for taking notice of my ultimatum. I was afraid no one was going to point it out. Rangers, hand over your Energems or watch all these people freeze! Your powers protect you, but none of them have such a luxury. So, hand them over and I will free them! Better hurry, they won't survive long!"
Their gloved hands tightened into fists of rage and fury, so Callie surprised them when she off-handedly offered, "I wouldn't trust him. Maybe if ye defeat him, the ice will go away."
She had a point. Iceage was a monster, and there was no way of knowing for sure that he would keep his word and free all the people frozen. The best and only way, as of now, to free them was to defeat him themselves.
Tyler smashed a fist into his other palm, "It's worth a shot. Let's do this!"
"Yeah!"
Chase turned to Callie, "Don't worry. We'll save everyone who's trapped. Now please, get somewhere safer."
She smiled at him, before nodding and running away from the scene.
The first thing Tyler did was reach into his belt buckle and pull out a Charger, "Dino Charger, Ready! Rexy, catch!"
The Charger got bigger before the T-Rex Zord (or Rexy now, apparently) caught it.
"T-Rex Charger, Engage!"
Tyler then motioned in front of them, "Go for it, Rexy! Take out the Vivizords!" It roared before charging forward. He then said, "It's about to get wild!", as he and the other four Rangers got into attack mode, before they all charged forward as well.
As Rexy battled the Vivizords, Tyler jumped on top of a nearby car, throwing off a Vivix before blocking the attack of another. He then flipped off the car, kicking one, before doing the same kick and destroying half of his group this time, Rexy's tail overlaying his leg breifly.
He took out his Dino Saber and jumped on Rexy's back just as the Zord breathed a shockwave that destroyed the rest of Tyler's group. Tyler then ran all the way down Rexy's back, and leaped off the tail, aiming directly for the Vivizord behind Rexy.
"Power Slash!" And on one move, Tyler destroyed it.
He then leapt over to where Iceage was, Chase following.
Chase used his Dino Morpher to blast the various Vivix around him and his parkour skills to easily dodge their attacks. He then took out one of his Chargers and placed it into his Morpher.
"Para Charger, Engage!"
"Dino Morpher Blast!" The powered-up blast managed to destroy a whole bunch of them.
Meanwhile, Koda combined his Morpher and his Saber to create the Dino Blade Blaster, and he used a "Power Blast!" or two to destroy a lot of the Vivix surrounding him. He blocked the attack of one, before lifting another with his strength and smacking it onto the ground below.
He then turned to the rest, and destroyed them all with another "Power Blast!"
Riley was using his Dino Saber to take on his own group, aided by his fencing skills he knew would come in handy one day. Like Chase, he also took out a Charger, this time placing it within his Saber.
"Raptor Charger, Engage!"
One "Power Slash!" took out his entire group in one swipe.
Shelby, like Koda, had decided to use her Dino Blade Blaster, this time using its "Rapid Blast!" ability. She kicked one, then a second, before repeatedly kicking a third. She then used a fourth's knee to lift herself up in the air and dropped kick it, before reversing her direction and kicking two more on either side of her.
When she landed, she took of the Dino Saber component, and spun the barrel. A "Dino Morpher Blast!" took out the rest.
Meanwhile, Tyler had gone directly for Iceage, "I'll finish this guy myself!"
"Not if I finish you first!" Iceage shot back.
Tyler blocked his attack, before counting his next three moves. "One!" was a punch to one of Iceage's arms. "Two!" was a punch to the other arm. And "Three!" was a solid kick to the chest.
Iceage stumbled back, as Tyler quickly recovered, before running directly at him and using his new strength to push his opponent back a few feet.
As Iceage got back to his feet, Tyler aimed another kick at him, much like the one he used against the Vivix earlier.
Once Iceage was back on the ground, Tyler turned to his Zord, "Rexy! Quick! Take out the last Vivizord!"
Rexy charged at it and bit its next before spinning around, performing a guillotine attack, and then landing right behind Tyler, his back to the following explosion.
"Nice one!" Tyler said, before taking out a Charger and placing it in his Morpher. "Now, let's finish this ice freak together!"
"T-Rex Charger, Engage!"
Iceage was back on his feet by this point, "I'll just freeze you both!"
"C'mon, Rexy!" Tyler said, before spinning the barrel. "Energize!"
He leapt back into Rexy's jaws, which closed right as they were hit by an ice blast.
Iceage was shocked that his powers weren't working anymore.
Rexy's jaws open to reveal Tyler perfectly fine, his Morpher charging up. Rexy then shockwaved Tyler out of his mouth, giving him a short burst of super speed.
"Dino Morpher Blast: Final Strike!"
Tyler didn't look back at the resulting explosion. He just said, "Monster Extinct!"
The other four Rangers joined him as Rexy gave Tyler back the Charger from earlier, which shrank before landing right in the palm of Tyler's hand, "Thanks, Rexy!"
The Zord simply knelt down and let the exhaust from his nose do all the talking.
The five Rangers then turned around just in time to see the ice trapping the citizens Iceage had frozen break apart, revealing everybody frozen alive and well, even if they were shivering.
Callie quickly ran onto the scene, obviously having watched the entire fight from a safe distance, calling, "Seán!" As she knelt down beside a young man and asked him, "Ye alright?", the Rangers noticed many other people kneel beside their loved ones and start ushering off the field.
The man, named Seán, replied with, "Yeah, I'm fine. Cold, but fine."
Callie smiled at him, before putting his arm around her shoulders and helping him onto his feet, "C'mon, let's get home and warm ye up."
As the two started walking away, Callie briefly turned around and gave the five Rangers a grateful smile. Once she got nods and thumbs up from Tyler in return, she turned back around and resumed her task of walking her brother home.
Once they were gone, Tyler turned to the others, "No one's going to believe this!"

Dino Base, Amber Beach Dinosaur Museum, Amber Beach, California
Kendall's response to Tyler saying such a thing in front of her was quick and harsh, "Incorrect! No one must know about what we're doing. Capiche?"
"Not even family?" Riley asked.
"Not even family," Kendall replied. "Understand?"
Tyler, Shelby, and Riley all nodded.
This whole exchange reminded Chase of Callie, "Speaking of keeping secrets, we may have a problem."
Kendall turned to him, "Which is?"
"Callie's getting closer to figuring it out," Chase told them, remembering how spot on she was this morning when she told him 'good luck' in finding whatever he was finding.
"I'm sorry for interrupting, but who's Callie?" Riley asked.
Koda answered for Chase by making kissy faces.
"She's your girlfriend?!" Tyler asked.
"I knew it!" Shelby smiled.
"No!" A very red Chase quickly answered. "She's just a friend, Koda!" He glared hard at his blue friend, who only smiled. "She's the girl from earlier, who told us about the people frozen. The problem is that she knows how to read people and can predict their thoughts and behavior once she knows them well enough." These words quickly sobered everyone up. "I honestly wouldn't be surprised if today only help her figure out our identities."
"If she does figure it out," Riley asked, "what should we do?"
Keeper, sitting down on the couch, tiredly replied with, "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it."
Tyler didn't know how or why, but in that moment, he felt the Red Energem tell him that something was wrong with Sierra. It was telling him that something about her mental or emotional state was going through a big change right now. Remembering Shelby's advice earlier on the road, he quietly spoke up as he took out his phone.
"Excuse me, but I need to call someone," Tyler's voice was very soft. "Family emergency."
Kendall nodded, "Go ahead, Tyler," and Tyler smiled his thanks at her.
After walking into an adjacent cave section, Tyler immediately called his sister, glad he had her on speed dial.
He breathed a heavy sigh of relief when he heard her pick up and asked, "Tyler?"
"H-Hey, Sierra," was all he could say. He then forced himself to keep talking, "I-I just wanted make sure you were okay."
"Yeah, I'm fine," She replied, before taking a deep breath. "Listen, Tyler, I'm sorry about our fight. Mom told me why she agreed to you leaving so easily, and to be honest, it makes a lot more sense now."
"I'm sorry, too," he was quick to say. "I should've worded my reasons better."
"It's okay, Ty," she softly said. "I forgive you. I've paired up with Dad's old friend, Rusty. He was the last person to see Dad alive, so I'm hoping I might find some clues if I stick with him."
"That's good," Tyler said. "Because I have a job now that makes it a lot easier to follow the lead I have." Hopefully, him being a Ranger would help him find that lion monster a lot quicker.
"That is good," Sierra replied. "Good luck."
"Thanks, I'm gonna need it," he answered. There was a pause, before he asked, "So...are we okay?"
He hoped so. He really did hate it when they weren't talking to each other. He was almost 21, while she just turned 17. It was his job to look after her, to protect her, and to just be her best friend, the one she could always count on.
She couldn't do that if they were fighting.
"Yeah," was Sierra's response. "I'd say we're just fine."
Tyler smiled, "Good."
As he hung up, he couldn't help but find it ironic that their roles were now reversed. When Tyler had left, he intended to be the one out in the world finding their dad, while Sierra stayed behind and keep an eye on things back home. Now, Tyler was the one who had to stay behind and be a Ranger, while Sierra would be the one out there trying to find Dad.
But he didn't mind. He had quickly found that he loved being a Ranger, and it really would make it easier to find that monster.
Besides, he had a big smile on his face, because he now knew for certain that his sister didn't hate him after their fight. They were friends again, and he was grateful for that.
He came back to the main area in time hear Koda say to Shelby, "I'm glad you with our team now, but I..."
He trailed off, but Shelby knew what he wanted to ask. She gently punched his shoulder, "Don't worry, Koda. I'll still make you your favorite Bronto burger."
Chase, however, was looking somewhere, and he seemed concerned. Tyler noticed and asked, "Chase, you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," Chase replied, before turning back to where he was looking before. "Keeper, are you alright? You look...very tired."
"I am well," Keeper replied.
Chase said nothing, nor did he smile. He only walked over to the couch and sat down next to Keeper. The others, feeling like this was important, quickly followed. Upon seating himself, Chase said, "Keeper, the monster we just fought was not Fury. You said that he was the only monster we had to worry about."
Keeper took a moment to gather his thoughts, and what he had to say made everyone speechless, "Iceage came from a human host. Granted, the host died centuries ago, but his strength was at its peak, making him an 'Executioner'. For your first fight, you all did very well. However, Inner Monsters are their hosts' primary fears personified, and their powers and abilities depend heavily on who their host is. Until it is defeated, it uses its host as a living battery, but if the host dies before the Monster does, then they become an Executioner."
The others still speechless, only Shelby had the nerves to ask one of the many questions on their minds, "H-How are they born? Is it some kind of process that we can stop directly?"
"I have no more answers for you on that subject," Keeper sadly replied. "I only know that being bonded to an Energem protects you from forming an Inner Monster. However, those not bonded to Energems don't have such a luxury."
Chase gently shook his head, "Why didn't you tell us this before? Y'know, when this base was first built?" One of his unspoken questions was 'how many Inner Monsters did we let escape?' and it was very obvious that it was a question he wanted to ask.
"Because it was never came up until now," Keeper honestly answered. "Rest assured, no single Inner Monster has been born while you and Koda were in commission. Iceage has existed since the ice age, as his name suggests. The other two known Executioners were born during the Black Plague and during the 1490 Ch'ing Yang Meteor Shower, respectively. Their hosts died long ago during those tragedies. But now that five Energems have been reunited, the process will start up again."
Everyone was quiet, before Riley asked a question himself, "This has been bugging me ever since you said it. Keeper, why did you hide the Energems in the first place?"
"Sledge," was all Keeper said, and it was a loaded answer, full of weariness and anxiety. "Or rather, enemies like him. I based myself on Earth and formed an alliance with a group of Guardians in order to protect myself from outside enemies. Ironically, it was the very same group of Guardians that betrayed me. I don't know where Sledge came from or how he was created, or how he knew all about the Energems when I never told a single soul, but he told the Guardians about them and encouraged them to turn against me. In fact, it was because of my actions taken to protect myself and the Energems from them that wiped out the dinosaurs in the first place."
All of this were things that Keeper would never tell another soul, out of fear that he would tell the wrong person. He didn't know what had possessed him to tell these guys, until now. Once, he held a distrust of humans, because he didn't think they'd be worthy enough to bond to Energems. Now, he was glad he survived the meteors long ago.
Because he truly felt like these people could be trusted.
"And now he has returned," was Keeper's final warning. "Be cautious, Rangers. I fear Sledge is more dangerous and cunning than all the others combined."

Sledge's Spaceship, Outer Space
Poisandra groaned as the spaceship finally entered Earth's orbit, "Finally!"
"Wrench," Sledge ordered, "contact Curio. Let her know we're back!"
As Wrench turned to the comms station, Poisandra turned to Sledge, "Sledgums, are you sure we should trust what Arcanon said? He seemed a little dodgy, especially after you told him about the Energems."
"Whatever he says, Poisandra, will always be better than what you say," Sledge coldly replied, before continuing to bark out orders.
Poisandra hung her head as she walked over to Wrench. He noticed her mood and asked, "You okay?"
"Man, 65 million years on a ship together, and he still hasn't noticed me..." she replied. Yeah, and Poisandra hadn't noticed Wrench either, but at least she was never cold to him like Sledge was to her. In fact, Poisandra and Wrench were best friends, due to them being the only likeable company they had on this 665 million year journey back to their home planet. She sighed, "I miss Curio."
"How about you help me, then?" Wrench suggested. "There's a lot of interference due to all these new satellites in orbit with us, so contacting your sister will take a while."
"Of course!" and her smile returned.
As the two started working, Sledge felt a familiar twinge return. "Ah, so you survived, Keeper," he told himself. "Good, that makes my revenge on you so much sweeter."

Original Kyoryuger Episode: Brave 1
Original PRDC Episode: Powers From the Past & Past, Present, Fusion
Note: First of all, let me explain the changes (and why). Yes, there are now eleven Energems and some of the Ranger colors are swapped: Ankylo is now Yellow, Pachy is now Orange, and Spino is now White, simply because the original line-up had too much blue and one too many grays. Second, yes, some of the characters' personalities and backstories are changed, mostly due to personal choice. And third, the monsters have a different origin, and I took a lot of inspiration from Ryusoulger (and to be honest, the payoff won't really be until the grand finale, when I explain everything). The change with Keeper's backstory (as well as Sledge) also relates to this, very heavily. The fact that the Energems seem to have a voice of their own also relate to this. And don't worry if the chapters are very similar (with a few changes) to canon right now. They will change after a short while, I promise.
Also, get familiar and comfortable with Callie and Sierra. They'll be recurring characters, and for good reasons (one of them is to even out the male to female Ranger ratio).
And yes, Curio is female this time, and has a bigger role than in canon. Yes, I chose to put a couch in the base too (many fanfics do this, but it's not canon in the show; it is canon here, though). Also, the commentary on the Energems' personalities at the very beginning is not a comment on the actual colors. It's a foreshadowing as to who gets what Energem.
Hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please review and tell me what you think!

Season 1, Episode 2: "Dinosaur Spirit"
"Sledge gives the Rangers a deadline to give him the Energems, but coming up with a plan to fight back gets compromised when Tyler goes after Fury on his own."
