A/N: Really sorry about the tardiness. Enjoy the chapter.
Disclaimer: I do not own Power Rangers Samurai or Samurai Sentai Shinkenger. I just own most of the plot and the characters and things you don't recognize from the original versions.
Note: In this chapter, Emily writes two letters. The first one is written in real time, but the second is written after the events of the episode, and Emily is just remembering what happened before she wrote it.

"When the Nighlock steals one of Santa's bags of presents, the Rangers must put their personal plans and feelings on hold for the sake of others."
Better Together
Power Rangers: Samurai REDO
Season 1, Episode 20.5, Christmas Special: The Holiday Spirit
Shiba House, Gianni Forest, Panorama City, California
December 24, 2014
Emily sat at her laptop (on her desk in her room), finishing her email to her mother, "In conclusion, things are rather uneventful, but I love it here. It's doing good things for my mental state."
Mia knocked on her doorframe and Emily looked up, knowing that Mia wanted something.
"Hey, Em, have you seen the tape?" Mia asked.
"Oh, yeah," Emily looked around at her desk before grabbing a bunny-shaped tape dispenser and handing it over to Mia. "Here. Wrapping presents?"
"Kevin is," the elder girl replied, taking the tape dispenser. "And Mike used the last of Ji's tape wrapping his."
"Ah," Emily understood. "Gotcha."
Emily watched Mia leave, her clairvoyancy allowing her to feel all the emotions currently going on in the Shiba House. She lingered, a sadness filling her heart, before turning back to her laptop, intent on finishing the letter to her mother.
"However, I can feel a collective sense of sorrow as everyone in the House prepares for Christmas. Our work won't allow us to go home, but that doesn't mean that we don't hold you all in our thoughts. What we do is very important, and it's a job only we can do. So, don't worry about me, Mom. We know exactly what we're risking, because we love our families, and I love you. I always will. Take care of yourself and be social. Please don't shut yourself in, Mom. Merry Christmas! Love, Emily. P.S. I'm close to getting answers about Serena. Hold on just a little while longer."
After Emily hit send, she closed her laptop and decided to see how the others were doing. She had been holed up in her room long enough, even though she knew that the others understood. Family time was very important to all of them.
She grabbed a glass of eggnog from the kitchen before stepping into the meeting room, where the table had been replaced by a beautiful tree.
"Dear Riley. I'm sorry this is so late, but before we go any further, remember that this is for your eyes only. Please, don't let anyone else see this, especially Mom. Secret intel on my life as a Power Ranger is incoming, since you asked so nicely when I told you earlier this year."
"Hey, Em!" Mike greeted her with such enthusiasm. "Mentor got a tree!"
Emily giggled as the others also turned from their tree decorating to greet her with smiles. "I can see that."
"I miss talking to you, Riles. I really do, but don't worry. I'm not alone. I have the other Rangers with me. Mike loves Christmas. He's definitely the most excited out of all of us. And that's saying something, because it seems like he's always excited. He's like a brother to me, though younger or older depends on his mood. He can be surprisingly mature sometimes, especially when it comes to his little brother."
Emily laughed as Mike let Jayden hang a couple of ornaments on his ears.
"Wanna cookie, Em?" Mia asked, pointing to a plate full of cookies she made. "They just came out of the oven."
"Sure," Emily shrugged before grabbing one.
"As the only girls, Mia and I have really bonded. I really look up to her. She's a great fighter, great cook, and is inwardly the most beautiful person I know. She's like an older sister to me. No one can replace Serena, but Mia definitely fills that void. Whether or not she means to, I'm still not sure."
Emily took a bite out of the cookie (which was delicious) as she panned over to Kevin, who was using a ruler to measure how much wrapping paper he needed. She fondly shook her head.
"Kevin kind of reminds me of you, Riley. Precise, sticks to a strict schedule, can't wrap presents without making an exact science out of it. But he's also very dependable and looks out for everyone else. He's the Matt of the group. He doesn't really understand us sometimes, but he's the big brother we all love."
Antonio climbed down the latter after hanging up all of the lights. "Can someone pass me my eggnog?" He asked.
Mike grabbed a half-drunk glass and passed it over. "Here you go, buddy."
"Thanks, amigo."
"Antonio's journey is definitely the most inspiring. He and Jayden are childhood friends, but can practically be called brothers, both emotionally and legally. He started out as the team's techie before becoming our Gold Ranger after proving time and time again that he'd make a great one. I love Antonio. We just have so much in common."
Jayden walked over and stood next to her, both taking a sip of their eggnog as he did. "So, did you finish your letter to your mom?"
Emily's eyes noticeably softened, "Yeah. I wish I could go home to see her."
"But Montana is so far away," Jayden finished. "If there was an attack, you wouldn't be able to come back in time. You'd also be all by yourself out there, so if you were attacked there, backup would be about two days away."
"Yeah..." Emily trailed off. Jayden had hit all tender spots about her reasons for staying at the Shiba House for the Holidays. Everyone else, however, already lived in Panorama City, so she was quite literally the odd one out.
Jayden immediately noticed her sadness and guilt and wrapped a comforting arm around her shoulders, before giving her a light shake. "Hey, don't be so down. The others chose not to go home either for the same reasons."
"They stayed so I wouldn't feel as bad," Emily corrected him. No one said it aloud, but she knew she was correct.
Not denying her correction, Jayden leaned in and told her in a low voice, "If the Nighlock saw a Ranger out with their family, their family could all easily become targets. Trust me. They're all facing the same risks as you are."
Emily finally glanced back up at him, looking into his blue eyes and smiled. "Thank you," she said, leaning her head on his shoulder.
She felt him lean her head on hers, "No problem, Em."
"Jayden is the greatest. He's a wise and very supportive leader who really cares about his teammates. I worry about him sometimes, as the fate of his older sister Lauren is definitely intertwined with Serena's, with that fate still being a mystery to all of us. But, I really look up to him and he is incredibly handsome, I will admit that."
Emily turned her gaze to Ji, who was hanging up the stockings.
"And Ji's role on the team is probably the most tragic. He's the one who has to wait for us to come back. A word of advice to you, Riley: if you ever become a Ranger, never take for granted the ones who help you yet can't fight themselves, because they're the ones who hide their suffering the most."
Emily's trance was broken when Ji's phone (a golden-brown Samuraizer) suddenly rang, out of the blue. Ji immediately picked up as the Rangers gathered around, wondering who was calling Ji at this time.
"Hello?" Ji answered. "Yes, hold on." He took the phone away from his ear and then pressed a button. "Okay, you're on speaker. Go ahead."
"Hello, Rangers," came a male voice that none of the Rangers recognized.
"Can we help you?" Jayden asked, releasing Emily's shoulders and taking the lead.
"To be honest, you're the only ones who can," the man continued. "I am Santa Claus."
"Wait, the Santa?!" Mike's eyes widened.
"Yes," Santa continued. "The Nighlock named Octoroo stole a bag of toys last night, the one I was going to pass out to the kids of Panorama City. He didn't say what he wanted the bag for, before you ask."
"Knowing the Nighlock, it's not good," Kevin replied.
"No," Santa said. "I'll leave this up to you, Rangers. I just have to ask a favor of you. Once you find the bag, please pass out the gifts to all the kids they're meant to be given to."
"We will," Jayden vowed.
"Thank you," Santa said, sounding incredibly grateful, before hanging up.
Jayden turned to his team, "Split up, Rangers. We'll cover more ground that way. Ji, keep an eye on that Gap Sensor in case anything shows up."
Ji nodded as the six Rangers raced out of the door.
"But, we always have to be on call. The Nighlock never take a day off, not even Christmas, and even Santa Claus can become one of their victims."

Dayu was strumming her Harmonium when she heard Master Xandred call out from the other room, "Octoroo! Octoroo, get out here!"
"Octoroo! Octoroo! Octoroo!" The Furrywarts dropped down and began chanting as Xandred came onto the main deck.
"Pipe down!" Xandred yelled at them, before turning to Dayu. "Where's Octoroo?"
"He's away, working on some big scheme," Dayu replied, not stopping her strumming.
"What big scheme?"
"Octoroo wouldn't spill," Dayu answered. "He just said that if it works, then we'll finally be able to escape the Sanzu River for good."
The information noticeably calmed Xandred down. "Well, if Octoroo can pull it off, I'll consider it the best Christmas present of all time."

Not many kids were at the park. Not many people in general, actually.
Mike and Emily knew that they had run into a dead end.

Mia and Jayden weren't have any luck.
Because a Nighlock hiding in a populated area was too easy to spot.
"Another Ranger tip: always have some way of technologically tracking the enemy, because doing it by hand is the most impossible thing in existence."

Cortez Forest, Panorama City, California
Kevin and Antonio were at a loss. They searched the entire city, and still nothing.
"We need to try something else," Antonio commented. "What we're doing isn't working."
"Well, what else can we do except keeping searching on foot?" Kevin asked.
"Well, the Gap Sensor's gotta have something," Antonio said, before cutting off, hearing an evil laugh come from the forest next to them. "Did you hear that, Kev?"
"Yeah," Kevin said, before realizing something, "that could be the Nighlock."
"Of course," Antonio realized the same thing. "If you're a Nighlock with an evil plan, you hide somewhere people won't easily find you."
Kevin nodded, before motioning Antonio to follow him.
"Often, one of us will discover the truth in the heat of the moment, and we're told to act on it as soon as we find out, because backup will soon be on the way. We just have to hang on until then. But the Nighlock have their moments."
Kevin and Antonio didn't realize they had crossed evil barriers.
~B~E~T~T~E~R~~T~O~G~E~T~H~E~R~~P~O~W~E~R~~R~A~N~G~E~R~S~~S~A~M~U~R~A~I~~R~E~D~O~
Kevin and Antonio ducked behind some boulders as they watched the following scene from a distance.
As Antberry and several Marauders dug through Santa's bag for all the toys in there, Octoroo uncovered a stone well. "Our primary object is to fill this well with Sanzu River water. The kids who don't get their toys for Christmas will cry enough to refill this well. If this works, the Nighlocks will have a place to get wet when they are drying out."
"General!" Antberry called out, and Octoroo went over and counted the toys.
"Oh, yes. We have enough toys to make this work," Octoroo said.
"I can't wait!" Antberry confessed, super excited. "The best Christmas present is trashing toys. That will definitely cause some sorrow."
"Of course it is," Octoroo replied. "It's the best plan. By tossing the toys in the well, the sorrow it will cause will make the River rise and fill the well once more." Octoroo then produced a stone axe. "Here. Use this to chop up the toys. It's made from riverbed rock from the Sanzu River. Y'know, before the Grand Shogun made it dry up, the well was the Nighlock's main portal."
Antonio turned to Kevin and whispered, "They're making kids cry by stealing their toys."
"We have to destroy that well somehow," Kevin whispered back, before pulling out his Samuraizer and dialing Jayden's number. But something was wrong. All he got was the dial tone. "Huh?"
"What's wrong?" Antonio asked.
"The call's not connecting."
Antonio pulled out his Morpher and tried Jayden's number as well. "That's strange. Our Morphers should have no problems getting a signal. Our signals must be blocked."
"We know you're there, Rangers!" Octoroo suddenly called out, scared Kevin and Antonio half to death. "Come out, come out, wherever you are!"
The two stepped out just in time for Octoroo to use his staff to blast them. The two sent back behind the rocks, before stepping back out again, fully morphed.
"Go, Go, Samurai!"
"Go, Gold Samurai!"
The two held out their weapons, as Octoroo said, "I'm impressed. You found this place even with my secret barriers up."
"That must be what's jamming our signals," Antonio quickly told Kevin, before turning back to Octoroo. "You must be Octoroo."
"Of course, I am," the Nighlock replied. "We've met before, Gold Ranger. I am General Octoroo, the brains behind Master Xandred, and the one who will finally destroy you."
Antberry ran up to the two Rangers, "Sanzu Slime!"
Instantly, Kevin and Antonio were covered from head to toe in a clear liquid that was so slippery, they were unable to hold onto their weapons.
"Woah! I can't hold on!" Kevin exclaimed.
"Me neither!"
"Ha! Your weapons are worthless!" Antberry taunted, before racing towards them with his axe.
The two Rangers battled the Nighlock, but it was definitely difficult as they couldn't land a blow since Antberry was covered in slime.
Antberry struck Kevin, who went flying. Antonio ran up to Antberry to try and grab him, but Antberry just flew out of his grip, causing Antonio to land right next to Kevin, as the latter tried to get back on his feet.
"Buzz off, Rangers!" Octoroo yelled, before blasting them once more, sending them flying and making them land some distance away. "Marauders, go find those pests and finish them off!" As the Marauders took off, Octoroo turned to Antberry, "While the Marauders are taking care of the Rangers, you can start chopping those toys."
"I can't," Antbery protested, holding up the axe, which was now covered in slime as well. "It's too dull. All the slime messed up its sharp edge."
"Then re-sharpen it and chop. Those. Toys!"

"Nice to see you two again," Mia called out to Mike and Emily as they reunited with her and Jayden.
"You two find anything?" Jayden asked.
"If we did, we'd be there and not here," Mike pointed out. Jayden nodded, as Mike made a good point.
"Where's Kevin and Antonio?" Emily asked, concerned, getting a bad feeling.
"I don't know," Jayden replied, equally as concerned. "They haven't called in yet, and you know how Kevin is."
"Yeah, precise Kevin who never misses a beat," Mike said. "You can set your watch to the guy."
Mia hung up her Samuraizer, "He didn't answer. Neither did Antonio."
"That's suspicious," Mike commented.
None of them could shake the bad feeling they were getting.
"Two more Ranger tips. One: never take your teammates going missing for granted, because something has probably happened to them. And two: always listen to your gut, because it's usually correct."
~B~E~T~T~E~R~~T~O~G~E~T~H~E~R~~P~O~W~E~R~~R~A~N~G~E~R~S~~S~A~M~U~R~A~I~~R~E~D~O~

Kevin watched the Marauders stalk past his and Antonio's hiding place, before turning back to Antonio, who was using his scarf to make a sling for his arm, and making another attempt to call Jayden.
Kevin groaned in frustration, "Still no signal."
Antonio typed some buttons on his Morpher, "I've analyzed that Nighlock's slime, Kevin, and I've learned that it's highly flammable. If we can get Jayden to set him on fire, we'll have a chance to beat him."
"That's gonna be a problem," Kevin replied. "We still can't connect a call." But if they only had one call, Jayden would be the one they'd call. No doubt.
"We have to try, Kevin," Antonio said after a moment of silence. "It doesn't matter whether or not we're strong enough. Power Rangers are the protectors of all things good. If people need to be saved, a Ranger will always try to help. No matter what. We don't run and hide."
Kevin hung his head. "You're right. We have no choice but to take on the Nighlock by ourselves. We don't really have a choice until the others realize we're missing and find us here. Which could take a long time."
"They'll come," Antonio said, without a shred of doubt.
"How do you know?" Kevin asked. "Did you make contact?"
"I wish," Antonio replied. "You live a very disciplined life, Kevin. Every moment is counted for. When they see that you haven't checked in for a while, they'll realize something's wrong and come looking."
"How are you so sure?"
"Because you don't know Jayden as well as I do," Antonio swiftly responded. "We all work together after all. Like a well oiled machine."
"Right," Kevin finally accepted Antonio's faith. "Right now, our job is to fight evil with every breath in our body."
All of a sudden, the two heard Marauders' wailing. The two stood up, getting ready to fight.
"Here we go, Antonio. You ready?" Kevin asked.
"Yeah," Antonio said, before taking off his sling and ripping the fabric of his scarf in two, giving one piece to Kevin. "Tie the Spin Sword to your wrist. That way, the Nighlock's slime won't affect your grip."
"Nice," Kevin complimented. "Why didn't I think of that?"
"Samurizer! Go, Go, Samurai!"
"Samurai Morpher! Go, Gold Samurai!"
Once the two were morphed, the two raced towards the Moogers.
Throughout the battle, the two used both pieces of Antonio's scarf to keep their weapons tied to their hands. Once all the Marauders were defeated, the two turned to each other.
"Hey, it worked!" Kevin exclaimed.
"It sure did," Antonio replied. "C'mon. Let's go take out that well."
Kevin followed Antonio back to where they found that well.

City Square, Panorama City, California
It was 3:00 PM on the dot.
Jayden was staring intently at his watch, while Mia was fiddling tirelessly with her Samuraizer, worried. Mike was pacing, while Emily was meditating, trying to keep her anxiety under control (or at least trying to).
"I don't like this," Jayden muttered, watching the second hand like a hawk. "Kevin sticks to a very strict schedule. For him to miss a check-in like this doesn't speak well with me."
And for Antonio to know how worried Jayden gets when he's waiting for a while and not call in himself spoke worse.
A beat of silence before Jayden spoke up again, "3:01. Enough waiting," he and Emily connected eyes. "It's time to take action."
The two looked over and Mike and Mia, who were both standing, ready to go.
"But the most important Ranger tip of all, Riley, is teamwork, especially if you're on a team that saves the world on a daily basis. Teamwork is your new best friend. Don't ever give up on your team, and they'll never give up on you. Remember that."
~B~E~T~T~E~R~~T~O~G~E~T~H~E~R~~P~O~W~E~R~~R~A~N~G~E~R~S~~S~A~M~U~R~A~I~~R~E~D~O~

In the meantime, Antberry had finally finished sharpening his axe. "I'm done, General!"
"Finally!" Octoroo let some relief sweep over him. "Start with the coolest toy."
A Marauder grabbed a large stuffed panda bear (named Sam) and presented it to Antberry to shop.
"Chop, chop, Antberry!" Octoroo ordered. "Time's a-wasting."
Antberry raised his axe to strike when a little Dragon Zord flew in and hit him several times, successfully knocking the axe out of Antberry's hand.
Octoroo raced towards the axe as it fell down the well. "No, not the axe! You Rangers ruined everything!"
Kevin fought the Marauders with his Spin Sword, while Antonio gathered up all of the toys and placed them back into the bag.
After all the Marauders were defeated, Kevin and Antonio (who was carrying Santa's bag over his shoulder) left the area to look for Octoroo and Antberry.
~B~E~T~T~E~R~~T~O~G~E~T~H~E~R~~P~O~W~E~R~~R~A~N~G~E~R~S~~S~A~M~U~R~A~I~~R~E~D~O~
The two Nighlock were found pretty quickly, and after Antonio hid the bag, he and Kevin were ready to fight.
"You two just destroyed my favorite toy!" Octoroo was mad (and it was obvious as to why, but neither Ranger regretted it).
"I'm ready to destroy two Rangers today!" Antberry added, now weilding a Marauder's sword.
"Bring it on, slime ball!" Antonio taunted, before he and Kevin raced towards Antberry with their weapons drawn.
"Sanzu Slime!"
The two Rangers were instantly covered with slime, but tying their weapons to the wrists was working. The two weren't fazed, and they continued to charge.
"Even if you can hold your weapons," Antberry said, "you can't slip away from me!" He then struck the two hard, knocking them to the ground. "Ha! I don't need slime to beat you!"
"Spin Sword: Lightning's Fury!"
A strike of lightning knocked Antberry and Nighlock to the ground, and every head turned to the nearby hill.
"Back off!" Jayden warned the two Nighlock. The other four Rangers had arrived (fully morphed).
"Kevin! Antonio! You guys okay?" Emily asked.
Kevin and Antonio got back to their feet. Kevin raced towards his team, while Antonio breathed a sigh of relief. "We're fantastico, now. We're sure glad to see you guys!"
"How did you four find us?!" Antberry demanded.
"Because we know our teammates," Mike replied.
"Kevin has a very accurate routine," Mia said.
"And if Antonio really was okay, he'd call to tell us," Jayden added.
"Sorry we're so late," Emily apologized to the other two.
"It's okay, Em," Antonio reassured her. "We knew you'd come. We didn't even have the smallest of doubts." Antonio pressed his thumb and index finger together to emphasis his point. He turned back to Antberry. "Now, c'mon, amigos. Time to take back Christmas!"
The other five joined him, all weapons out and pointed directly at Antberry.
"Well, later, Rangers!" Octoroo called out, walking away from the fight. "Time to slip through a Gap!"
"We are you going, General Octoroo?!" Antberry asked.
"The Red Ranger's going to fry your boot-ay!" Octoroo called as he disappeared in a flash of red.
Antberry turned back to the Rangers, "Well, he's worthless and weak, but I'm not scared of you, Red! Shall we do this?"
"Jayden, watch out for his slime," Kevin warned.
"Don't worry," Jayden said, twirling his Sword in his hand to give him better access to the hilt and his belt.
"Sanzu–!"
"Here it comes!" Kevin said.
"Blazing Fury!" Jayden spun his Lion disk.
"–Slime!"
Jayden's fire attack easily overpowered Antberry's slime blast, quickly overtaking the Nighlock and setting him on fire – exactly what Antonio said would happen.
Jayden watched Antberry burn up, before ordering, "Now!"
Mia, Mike, and Emily all charged and each got a solid hit in, making Antberry fall to the ground.
Kevin and Antonio ran up beside Jayden. "Go ahead, guys. Put him on spin cycle."
Kevin hooked up the Dragon Disk, and Antonio the Sushi Disk, before the two charged towards Antberry as he got back to his feet.
"Spin Sword: Dragon Splash!"
"Barracuda Blade: Light's Barrage!"
Their attacks knocked the Nighlock into the well, which blew up when he did.
Kevin and Antonio gave each other a high-five just as Antberry few into his second life.
Antonio pulled out his Morpher to text OctoZord, as the other five behind pulled out their own Zords and called, "Samuraizers! Zords Combine! Samurai Megazord, We Are United!"
"Antonio, join us!" Kevin called out.
"With pleasure!" Antonio said, before calling out, "Samurai Artillery!"
"Octo Spear Megazord, Armed For Battle!"
The Megazord and Antberry charged at each other. The Megazord knocked the Nighlock's weapon out of his hands.
"You Rangers will play for ruining Christmas for me!" Antberry said. "Sanzu Slime!"
The blast of slime hit the Megazord, causing OctoZord to slip up and fly directly into Antberry's waiting arms.
Antberry simply laughed.
"Hey! Hands off!" Antonio yelled. "Octo Ink Cloud!" The ink cloud caught Antberry off guard and allowed Antonio to break free. "Let's try this again. Samurai Artillery!"
Once back together, all six called, "Ice Breath!"
"So cold!" Antberry shivered, as he froze up.
"Katana Power: Electric Spear Charge!"
One downward slash later, and Antberry was history.
With the Rangers in high spirits, Jayden said, "Samurai Rangers, Christmas is Ours!"

Shiba House, Gianni Forest, Panorama City, California
It was late afternoon now, almost evening, and the Rangers had taken the bag of toys Antonio had saved and hidden back to the Shiba House to sort out before delivering them during the night, so the kids would be none the wiser.
"Stealing toys from kids, Christmas gifts at that?" Mike asked, as he picked up a toy truck. "That's low, even for a Nighlock."
"But we get to make things right," Kevin replied, also digging through the bag with Mia at his side doing the same thing. "That's the best thing about being a Ranger. Right, Antonio?"
"Right," Antonio smiled back at him, thrilled that Kevin remembered his pep talk from earlier.
Jayden and Emily entered room with more eggnog for all of them. "Remember to morph before heading out tonight," Jayden said. "We don't want to draw attention to ourselves."
Emily smiled, feeling a collective sense of determination to make kids happy. "I think it'll be fun to play Santa."
"Ho, ho, ho," Mia added, causing everyone to grin.
"Don't worry, Riley. Everything worked out in the end. I'm writing this after we delivered all the presents, and I'm tired, but I knew I needed to write this letter before going to sleep. Again, I'm sorry for taking so long, but I hope you, Matt, and your mom have a Merry Christmas. I have to go now, but I promise I'll email you at a later date. Keep taking care of Mom for me. Love, Emily."

"Arachnitor is back and a new enemy has appeared. It's time for the Samurai Rangers to step up their game, but can Antonio finish the Black Box in time?"
