9. The Monster in the Closet.
Chloe decides that she must use her Wristwatch Tardis to move the first short distance away from her work area to avoid looking as if she is malingering. She also decides that as the registration office is only open during the working day, at the same time as she is expected to be working in the manufacturing area, she will use her Wristwatch Tardis to go back a few hours to give her time to go to the registration office without being missed.
Chloe chooses a small broom cupboard to materialise in. She focusses there and taps her wristwatch to take her there...
The closet is dark. Pitch black dark. She reaches forwards and discovers a squidgy thing in front of her. A roar tells her that it didn't appreciate being poked. She thinks of home and taps her Wristwatch Tardis to get out quickly while the going is good. .
Then Chloe chooses a different closet but takes a torch. She chooses to return a few minutes earlier than her previous visit...
In the darkness of the second closet, she uses the torch to illuminate the closet to find the door handle. She opens the door and steps out.
A passing technician notices her. "You can't go in there, miss, that's cleaner's territory."
Chloe points to the first closet, nearby. She feels she must report her findings. "There's a squidgy monster in there."
"What's it like?" the technician asks cautiously. He's wondering if Chloe is using this story as a distraction in some way.
She expects the technician to want to know more, but she doesn't know any more - it had been totally dark.
"I've no idea - it was totally dark," Chloe says, hoping he won't ask her more, but it seems inevitable.
"Why was it totally dark?" he asks. "When the door is open it lets the light in, and you can see to put the light switch on." He doesn't believe her one bit.
"Doesn't a monster in a closet concern you?" Chloe asks.
The technician looks at her. "What do you want me to do? I could open the door to show you there isn't a monster." He grins cheekily and a little impatiently.
He steps towards the closet door where Chloe had touched the monster that had roared at her.
"Please don't!" Chloe can hardly control her response.
The technician is surprised and turns again to look at this twitchy girl.
A roar from the closet makes them both jump!
"That's the monster!" Chloe says. "It's squidgy."
"How do you know?" the technician asks inquisitively. This clearly puzzles him. How could this girl know the monster is in there and that it's squidgy?
"Please, it needs dealing with," Chloe implores the technician.
He reaches to a pocket and talks to his device almost monotonically. "Suspected Zygon in closet 354. Approach with caution."
A cleaner's mop stands sloppily against a doorpost nearby. He brings this to the closet door and leans it up to deter immediate entry to the closet.
When he turns around to see Chloe, she has gone!
The photoshoot.
Chloe left the technician to it. She walked along the corridor towards the Registration Office where she knows that each new Tardis made must be registered.
A short way along the route, an open area is host to a photoshoot. She stops to watch the way things are done on Gallifrey.
The picture is taken, and she is near the back row in the background on the picture, but quite visible.
The picture may show that the Girl from the Time Continuum is active - if anyone recognises her!
