This cat is in love with Ferntail.

Only easy if you have read the other chapters. As always.

In this chapter, I mentioned 'Mistystar's crush '. I have no idea who her real mate is... I just made someone up.

This chapter isn't really relevant to the plot ( like the other chapter ) but just fun for me to write. And hopefully fun for you to read?

" Mistystar, can we go already! " I chided.

I couldn't wait to go to the Gathering. I could never wait. One of my endearing qualities, according to Fern, was my impatience.

" Silverfur, please. We have to wait a bit more since Reedwhisker and Rosepaw aren't back yet. She's almost ready for her warrior ceremony. What do you think about naming her 'Roseshine'? " She said, sitting down.

I didn't want to sit down and talk. I wanted to leave. But I did.

" Roseshine? Seriously? That just seems weak and pathetic. " I answered.

" Suits her, then. " She said.

It certainly did. I let out a mrrow of laughter.

I was pretty sure that Rosepaw liked me, ever since I saved her and another apprentice from a badger a few moons ago. Though I may as well think of her as Roseshine, now.

" So, when are you going to make me deputy? " I asked. This was a common topic with us.

" That's not how it works. Reedwhisker would have to... join Starclan. He's a perfectly fine deputy. " she sighed.

" He's fine, sure. But we both know that I would be perfect. Everyone in Riverclan knows that I'm the best warrior on this side of the lake. I'm loyal and we're much better friends than you are with Reedwhisker. " I said.

" That may be true, but as I've said before. Doesn't work that way, " she explained ( again ), " though I would love to have you as my deputy. "

I nodded.

" Don't tell Reedwhisker, OK? " she whispered.

I nodded as Reedwhisker and Rosepaw came back with their jaws full of prey.

" Great! They're here, let's go! " I leaped to my feet.

Mistystar sighed but nodded.

She stood up to announce that we were leaving, but most cats understood and got to their paws. Since everyone got the message, we left.

Rosepaw bounded up to me and walked beside me.

" Hi, Silverfur. "

" Hello, Rosepaw. " I said.

" Did you know that I'll be made a warrior soon? I have my final exam in 3 sunrises. " She said smugly, lifting her head.

" I did know, actually. But congratulations! Mistystar and I were actually discussing your warrior name. " I answered.

" Really? " she asked, her eyes wide, " What's it going to be? "

" Well, I can't tell you! That'll ruin the surprise! " I scolded.

" I think I'd like to be called Roseblossom. " she said, wistfully.

" That's much better than what Mistystar came up with. " I laughed lightly.

" Hmph. " She said and padded away.

What's that about?

I saw the fallen tree and the island. I glanced around the lake, and I didn't see any cats, we were probably the last.

I started to run.

Across the fallen tree and then I broke into the clearing.

Mistystar ran up behind me.

" Seriously, Silverfur! We've got all the time we need! " She sighed.

I wish she would be a better best friend, not scolding me every 2 seconds.

" Come on, let's just go. "

We bounded into the clearing, and Mistystar jumped up into the tree.

I didn't sit down with the other cats but instead wandered through the forested areas of the island. I wasn't exactly wandering, I knew this place. I had made a full circle and saw a cat sitting with her back turned to me. Her pelt was pitch black, like the night sky above me, and her tail kept twitching nervously.

" Fern! " I whispered.

She spun around, her stormy gray eyes lit up.

I padded up closer to her and we touched noses. I closed my eyes as her sweet scent flooded over me.

I licked her ear.

" I missed you! It's really hard that I can't see you all the time. Yesterday especially. " She whispered.

" What happened? " I asked.

" That's the problem, I don't think I can tell anyone. " She looked away.

" Even me? You know you can tell me anything. " I said.

" Well, Firestar called me to his den, and - "

" Ferntail! " A she-cat behind Fern yelled.

Was she followed?

Fern turned around, and let out a breath.

" Petalnose, what are you doing? " She asked.

Oh. Petalnose. Fern had told me about her. Her best friend.

" I saw you sneaking here. Like you do almost every Gathering. This time I decided to follow you. At least now I know why you don't go all the time. Because you only go when Silverfur is here! Seriously, you could be caught! " She screamed.

Fern flinched.

" So? We barely get to see each other, otherwise! It's hard when our clans are far apart. " I answered defensively.

" Ugh. Come on, Ferntail. " She padded of angrily.

Fern gave me a sad look and followed her.

" OK, bye? " I said when she had disappeared.

I ran back, around the island, and came back right when I saw Mistystar jump down from the tree.

I padded up beside her as everyone was leaving.

" What's the news? " I asked her.

She didn't know about me and Fern, but she knew I didn't like to listen to the formal chatter the leaders spoke.

" Shadowclan has 2 new warriors. Moonfrost and Grassear. " She said.

" Grassear? " I asked.

" No idea. Windclan chased a badger into Thunderclan territory. So good luck to them. "

Thunderclan was infamously bad with badgers. They were attacked by an army of badgers when the cats first came to the lake, and Heartpaw was killed by one. Fern will be fine, though. Right? Yeah.

" And all is well in Thunderclan. Like we believe that. " she snorted.

I didn't believe that, either. Fern had sounded really worried.

" Well, at least we'll have new warriors soon, too. And you know we have no problems with badgers. Courtesy of me. " I laughed.

" My other warriors are certainly capable as well. No need to get too cocky, Silverfur. " She narrowed her eyes.

" Strange you don't mention yourself as capable. "

She sighed, though I knew she actually appreciated my antics.

We chatted for a while until we reached the camp. She told me to go eat something and then go to sleep.

" Where are you going? Aren't you going to eat something? " I asked her.

" No. I'm just really tired. Goodnight. "

" Goodnight. "

She was about to walk off when I mentioned something else.

" Hey, I noticed yesterday that you were hunting with Birchfoot. "

She turned around looking frazzled.

" I just decided to mention it now. To embarrass you. " I let out a mrrow of laughter.

She hissed and sprinted over to her den.

It was so much fun messing with her.

I ate and went to my den.

I curled up in my nest but didn't go to sleep.

I thought about all the things that happened today.

I should talk to Mistystar about Rosepaw's warrior name. Roseblossom is certainly much better than Roseshine. Rosepaw seemed upset when I was talking to her.

I could hear Fern's voice in my head. Silver, you can be so oblivious sometimes. Even when it's right in your face!

Usually, she would take pity on him as he tried to figure it out, so she would help him.

Think! Rosepaw likes you, and what were you saying when she got grumpy.

I would tell her that Rosepaw wasn't exactly grumpy, but she would just tell me how annoying it was when I focused on unimportant details.

I wracked my brain, I couldn't exactly remember.

Then it hit me. I had been talking about Mistystar. Rosepaw was jealous. I sighed. Mistystar and I are just friends. I'm in love with Fern, and Mistystar likes Birchfoot ( Though not confirmed, that hiss was clear enough ).

Then I couldn't stop thinking about Fern. I loved how she called me Silver, the way her voice sounded when she said it. And I loved how she reacted when I first called her Fern. She got really angry and told me that her name was Fernpaw. No one calls each other just by their Pre-fix. Then I laughed at her, asking her why it was such a big deal. Then she called me Silver instead of Silverpaw. It didn't have the effect she wanted it to have on me. Then she grumbled and told me to go away. But I didn't.

I thought about the way she laughed, and the sparkle in her eyes. Thinking of her lulled me to sleep.
