SummaryAU-all human ficlet. A day in the life of Buffy Thomas.
"Mommy!"
Buffy Thomas looked away from dinner to eye the blond, blue-eyed boy sitting at the kitchen island and giving her a peaceful look. She didn't keep her eye on him too long; she wanted dinner to be perfect and that meant that she needed to keep a careful eye on it, what with her habit of burning the meals.
"Yes, honey?" She asked sweetly, her eyes then drifting to the clock. It was only ten minutes of a wait, and she felt she could handle it. He'd left her with their son for an entire week, with constant questions and messes only he and Xander's daughter could make together.
"When's daddy coming home?" he asked, swinging his legs in the air.
And there was a question she got tired of ten minutes after leaving the airport. He'd asked her relentlessly all week, never letting up for a moment. If she'd known Mr. Stay-at-Home Dad dealt with all of this, she'd appreciate it so much more.
"Soon." Buffy answered. She stirred the pasta in the pot. "His plane landed twenty minutes ago, so it won't be long. Did you miss him?"
"Yeah." The boy nodded emphatically when his mother looked at him. "I have to show him what I did with Grandma and when I saw Auntie Willow and Auntie Tara and Auntie Dawn and Auntie Anya and Auntie Xander-"
"Nathan, it's Uncle Xander, not Auntie."
"Daddy said it was Auntie."
"Well, it's Uncle."
"Tell that to daddy." Nathan replied. At age five, he'd already grown accustomed to using the weapon that was the smart mouth both his parents had contributed to giving him.
Buffy turned to face her son. "Nathan William Thomas-"
There was a laugh behind her. She froze, slowly turning to the doorway of the kitchen. There he stood, her husband, back from the trip that carried him all the way to London. She'd missed him so much, but not even that would keep her from chewing into him.
"I can't believe you! Xander's been trying to get him to stop from months!" she exclaimed.
Her plan didn't work, as he was still smiling. "Right. Well, tell Harris that if he can buy Nate a toy a week, Nate'll stop it."
Buffy crossed her arms. "Is that right?"
"It's the midge's demands, not mine." Spike retorted.
Buffy shook her head and then threw herself unexpectedly into his arms. "God, you are so lucky I missed you."
