Fratellanza
I sighed.
Kyoya had to find the training room and Arro when his dear colleagues were visiting the building huh…
I looked at Min-Jae when he tapped on my shoulder and followed him further away.
"What's the Nishimura heir doing here!?" he asked me in a whisper.
"You know that?"
"Of course I do, the Nishimuras are important, him losing his only heir made a lot of noise in Asia!"
"Heh...does it mean Jie knows Kyoya as well?" I muttered to myself. Min-Jae widened his eyes comically.
"From the Black Dragon!?" he yelled this time. They all looked at us.
I waved them off, Kyoya's eyes lingering on me for a second longer.
"Well, as you said so yourself, he was disowned. End of the story, unless you want to end up on his black list."
"I mean...he's handsome." I smirked.
He was.
"Hibari-san!?" Tsunayoshi was there.
"Haha, that was predictable!" Takeshi laughed.
"I want to extremely join!"
"Please...don't..." I heard Katryna's shy voice say behind me.
She'd get along with Chrome.
Cris was next to her, scanning the group of teenagers/young adults.
"I forgot to mention I've got a full set of Guardians now," I said suddenly. Reborn raised a brow.
"Really?" I nodded and felt small, skinny arms hugging my legs.
The unruly brown mane of hair that belonged to Walton kept moving as he rubbed his face against my hip. He raised his head and looked at me with a sleepy brown eye. The special eye was hidden by a brown eye patch. I put my hand in his hair.
"Yeah, somehow it happened."
"Congratulations," Tsunayoshi said before crouching in front of Walton, who was wary of him. "Hello, my name is Saw...Tsunayoshi Sawada." Nice, he used the Italian way. "I am going to be the Vongola Decimo in a few months. What is your name?"
"Walton...I'm the Rain!"
"I se..." Arro was next to us in a second, waving the two rings at his fingers.
"I still have the ring!" Walton narrowed his eye.
"Not for long!"
"What's this place?" Hayato wondered, looking around.
"Luciana was given her own elite squad to lead and the basement is their section of the HQ," Reborn summed up, looking at me. "Right?"
"Yeah, actually Iemitsu wanted me to explain a few things to you that you all need to know as you'll be leading everybody soon." I showed Katryna and Cris. "You probably remember her, she was the medic with Dino. That's Katryna, my Sun. Then you have Cristobal, who's my Lightning. Then Walton you've just met. You already know Arro and Alaric, and the last one is still as complicated as ever."
"No news?" I shrugged at Takeshi's question.
"He must still be working at Vendicare. There are other people, like Min-Jae for instance, who's a hacking genius." Min-Jae waved at them, a too interested glint in the eyes. "Then the VARIA squad I was leading is also here and the previous VARIA Storm officer also joined us."
"Samaras?" Reborn asked to be sure. I nodded.
"You'll understand once I'll explain." I looked at Cris. Helios and the Cloud Squad were on a mission. Rick was dealing with some paperwork for the day. "Cris, you're taking over their training."
"Walton was napping," Arro pointed out. The kid stuck his tongue at him. I pushed him gently toward Katryna and he took her hand. Tsunayoshi told Lambo to follow them and the kid did.
"Alright, the Mafia world is in deep shit and turmoil and has been for a year." It seemed to stun them for a second.
"Isn't it always is trouble?" Ryohei asked in confusion.
"That's...kinda true," Arro admitted.
"Is it about the university?" I nodded at Tsunayoshi.
"Yeah. I'd like to make it short but it may be complicated. Basically...it was shady. The government had payed for it as well and Iemitsu thought it was weird, so he ordered me to go there for a year to investigate. It turned out to be shady. There was a research center for Dying Will Flame but, as it was supposed to be a neutral place, we couldn't use flames. These were basically the rules."
"Shortly after we started going to class," Arro continued, folding his arms, "we were summoned at the control center, in charge of the security on the island. There were ten of us, the ten best students on the island based on our entrance exams results. Lulu and I got in along with eight other people. However, a guy went missing one day."
"Was he killed?" I nodded at Hayato.
"I was partnered with the number two and when we were patrolling near the harbor, we found his body in the sea. He didn't drown thought. The moment we found him, two others disappeared and it continued until the end of the year. There were only five of us left. We were all under the commands of Helios Samaras, and that's how we met him. At some point, he started to suspect something."
"As we were in charge of the security as well, we were given small devices allowing us to use flames for a short amount of time. It turned out that the research center was using this to collect data about us and...conduct some human experimentation."
"One of the scientists there got his hand on some...Estraneo-related information and decided to continue the...research."
"But...but the government..." Tsunayoshi stuttered with horror.
"It was planned. Get as much young people as possible in one place, conduct some illegal shit and then...erase all proofs it ever happened. Two birds one stone, they have their research done and created conflicts all over the Mafia to know who was responsible for murdering the 'future' of the Families," Arro said bitterly.
"Some Families are still looking for a culprit to get their revenge. The only reason the Vongolas are...not too much in the spotlight is because Arro was sponsored by the VARIA and I was sponsored by Dino. We both...you know...helped fighting the army back...without flames..." I trailed off, staring into nothing. I shook my head, not wanting to think about this.
I...had a few nightmares about that boy who died in front of my eyes.
"It will be brought up later on Tsuna, you better know this story by heart, especially knowing Mukuro is one of your Guardians."
"He...kind of knows already I think," I told Reborn. "I asked him if he knew if the Estraneos were still a thing last year." I let the information sink in. "Because of the aftermath, and how rings and flames are common now, Iemitsu decided to make an 'elite squad' in CEDEF. He called it L'Attaco del Leone, or ADL for short."
"So, what happened in Namimori? You had better than us?"
"Just high-school," Takeshi told us, rubbing the back of his head.
"Well, it's a challenge as well. Teenage years I mean. Hormones and angst and...the mess that seems to follow you all around..." Tsunayoshi lowered his head, defeated.
"Don't mention it," he mumbled weakly.
My phone rang and I took it.
"Sorry, I've got to take the call." I picked up and walked away from them, going in the deserted hallway.
There was an issue in the mission and Helios wanted my input. After a shot conversation, I hung up and turned around, only to bump in Tsunayoshi.
"Sorry, I just wanted to see if everything was alright."
"Yeah, don't worry about it."
"You don't need help or anything?" I raised a brow. "Not that I think you can't deal with things on your own but..."
"Tsunayoshi, with what's waiting for you in the next few months you won't have the time to worry about helping others. We're fine anyway."
"I don't believe you." I narrowed my eyes. His eyes were serious and unwavering. "When you were telling us about last year...there was something off, something you weren't telling us and that's bothering you. You've always been here for us, for me, so if I can help in any wa..."
"Hold on a second. The main reason I helped you all was because you can make Federico's dream a reality. It was for a selfish reason. It was also for a selfish reason I fought at the Inheritance Ceremony. I wanted to do better than before."
"I know." I was taken back. "No matter the reason, you still helped and I'll always be grateful for it. If you had not been here when we were in the Future...I don't know how I could have handled things. You always seemed to have everything under control and it was calming."
"Life has been throwing shit at me since I was a kid, I've learned how to deal with them." He shook his head.
"Maybe there is that, but it's also one of your quality and I admire it a lot. You can keep a cool head even in the worst situations."
I didn't know how to react to that, or to any of the things he was saying.
"I don't know who's that person you're talking about but it's not me." He smiled faintly. There was...irony almost and I didn't know why.
"I just wanted to tell you that if you needed help with...your birth family, you can come to me. I'll do everything I can." I smirked wryly.
"You're going to be the Decimo, you won't be able to help each person who needs it." He cocked a brow.
"But you're not just a person, are you?"
"It doesn't matter anyway, I'm fin..."
"You're not. I don't know what happened, but it was big and even if you don't want to admit it, you're scared of what's happening." I froze.
I cackled quietly, my head low. I grabbed his collar out of sudden and brought his face just millimeters away from my face.
"Let's make one thing clear Tsunayoshi: my problems are my own and I will deal with them the way I want to deal with them. They do not concern you nor the Vongolas. I am not one of your Guardians, I won't even be under your orders so don't use that Hyper Intuition on me ever again," I hissed through my teeth, glaring deep in his brown eyes. He didn't seem to flinch.
He just furrowed his brows and put his hands on mine.
"It's not as if I can just turn it off."
"Then ignore what it tells you about me and shut up about it." I let go of him. "I know what I am doing so stay out of my business." I averted my eyes.
"I didn't want to offend you senpai," he whispered with concern.
"Tch, I don't need another Vongola making decisions about my life."
"What?" I smirked wryly.
"Right, you don't know! I've never chosen to join the CEDEF you know. One day, Dino was facing a bear and I used my flame to kill it, so Reborn called the Ninth because it was a 'Vongola Flame'. The Ninth gave my father a choice: I could stay at the Cavallones and join the CEDEF later or they would take me away. I'll let you guess what was my dad's choice."
"Senpai..."
"I didn't choose to be your dad's successor either, the Ninth made that choice because I had that flame and he wanted to keep me out of the succession! I mean, I could have been another Xanxus after all." I was panting by that point. "The Vongolas put me in chains. My personal issues are the only bit of freedom I still have, so stay out of it."
"...alright." He started to walk away but stopped, shooting me a concerned gaze above his shoulder. "I'll still be here if you need me, and I know I am not the only one you can rely on Luciana, so don't reject us." I stubbornly kept looking at the wall.
I could deal with my problems just fine on my own.
Cris and Alaric shared a look.
"I can't?"
"It could put them at risk, be it your mother or your uncle and Zac," Rick explained to me. I looked down.
"I see."
I wanted to visit my mother. I wanted to see my uncle and how Zac was doing now he was fifteen.
"Maybe if your brother is here it would make Nick and Rose back off and send the message they better not mess with them?" Cris suggested.
"My father didn't seem impressed by Xanxus at the hospital."
I didn't want to unveil where they were either.
"Would my father do anything to my mother? Her mental health is still not at its best, there are days where she..."
Where she wondered if she had fed me before saying that Xanxus probably did anyway.
"I am sure Enrique would be happy to hear you just on the phone though Miss." I smiled a little. He totally dodged my question.
"Yes, he probably would be."
"And anyway," Rick continued, looking at Cris, "I doubt you would be able to do what you want as well." Cris chuckled nervously.
"I'm aware."
"Is it okay not to tell Arro about your deal Miss? You know how he is, if he..."
"I have my reasons for not telling him," I interrupted him harshly. "I will tell him one day, but...not now."
Not if Lentini didn't make any move.
"I have to go to the Main HQ with Ahmed and Milo, Rick you're in charge."
"Hey!" Cris yelled, offended I didn't pick him.
"Actually Cris, I think we might have found a solution to your flames." He blinked and showed the Mare Ring on his finger.
"It does the job."
"I know, but we can't risk you going 'wild'. I asked Arro to contact Verde. If anyone can do something, especially for someone with Lightning Flames, it might be him."
Xanxus and Dino asked me more about Cris as he was at university when it turned ugly. Let's say they were not entirely happy with the losing control situation.
Although, Belphegor had an issue with that as well when he would see his blood.
Xanxus...maybe I should tell him about the deal with our father.
The car stopped in the Vongola property. I still had my uniform. For today it would do I guess.
They were all in a living-room, minus Kyoya and Arro, about to eat snacks.
"Yo Sini!" Ryohei greeted me.
"It's not my real name," I replied with a sigh. I looked at Katryna and Diego. "You guys are free to go."
"Alright!" The started to leave, probably going to tell Arro so.
"Senpai, how do you deal with several meetings in a day?" I shrugged.
"Try to listen to half and then just be here for the other half but let your Guardians do the job." Reborn kicked me in the leg. "Hey!"
"Don't give him bad ideas." I rolled my eyes.
"Oh come on, Hayato will do it anyway!" Hayato jumped on his feet, a hand on his chest, stars in his eyes as he looked at Tsunayoshi.
"Of course Tenth, you can count on me when you are too tired!"
"So, how is official Guardian training doing?"
"For the most part we don't see each other a lot," Takeshi told me. "Although, I think Visconti-san has issue with Hibari."
"Yeah well...that's not surprising."
"Bouche-san is not happy with Mukuro-sama not being here," Chrome added quietly.
"Not surprising either..." I muttered and Milo chuckled behind me. I shot him a look above my shoulder. "Something funny Milo?"
"Nothing Captain!"
I pursed my lips and frowned when he widened his eyes, running past me to go to Tsunayoshi. I suddenly felt the killing intent and was in front of Milo, who had tackled Tsunayoshi to the floor, the wrist of the assailant in my hand. I broke it with my flame. Ahmed injected him some poison that made him drop to the floor.
Nobody was moving, too stunned by what had just happened. Except for Reborn, Leon turned in his usual gun in his hand.
"First assassination attempt," Reborn stated plainly. "That's VARIA quality for you. Good job."
"That..." Tsunayoshi started as I grabbed the man's collar.
"Tsuna, you're okay!?" Takeshi almost yelled, running toward his Boss like his fellow Guardians.
"Yes, I'm fine. Thank you Milo-san."
"Ha, it was nothing." I moved the guy closer to the window to have more space. However, he pulled a needle from his pocket and put it in his arm.
Bubbles started to appear in his mouth as he was convulsing.
"Hey, that's not fair!" I yelled at him. "I didn't even get to interrogate you yet!"
"Captain, that's no..." Ahmed didn't finish his sentence that a gunshot was heard.
I moved to the side in time to avoid a bullet in my head. It went right through my shoulder and ended up in the wall.
"We're leaving Tsuna to you!" Takeshi said, jumping through the window with Ahmed, Hayato and Reborn.
"Si...Luciana, come here!" Ryohei ordered me, his Sun tool already out.
I sat down on the couch and let him heal me. A couple of minutes later, Katryna appeared in the room, panting. She rushed to me.
"Gokudera-san told us what happened, Arro, Diego and Hibari-san went as well."
"The bullet went through," Ryohei told her. She nodded.
"Thank you Sasagawa-san, I will continue if it is okay with you."
"Sure." He turned to Tsunayoshi with his serious big brother face on. "Sawada, you're okay? Sure?"
"Yeah, I'm more in shock at what just happened than anything." He shot the snacks and tea, still untouched, a look. "Senpai, would Ahmed-san be able to check if there is poison in them?" I nodded sharply. I noticed Chrome and Milo at the window. Chrome shot me a quick look and took my appearance.
"It should have been my head Chrome," I told her. She dissipated the illusions with a thoughtful look on her face.
"I know, but if the shooter had everyone in sight, especially the Boss, then it meant they were targeting you." I pursed my lips.
"It would mean I'm famous and dangerous enough for someone to want me dead?"
"You're not taking this as a good thing, right?" I shrugged at Tsunayoshi.
"I mean...it's a big step in your Mafia career." He gaped at me.
It would mean the plan was starting to work. An assassination attempt here as well?
Maybe Lentini was suspecting something. Maybe we were an inconvenience to him now.
"Lulu you're okay!?" Arro yelled behind the broken window. I had not seen him coming, none of us did and there was a general scream of surprise. "Hey! I'm far from being ugly!"
"I'm good, the bullet went through my shoulder." Katryna nodded, confirming my words. "Ryohei took care of it quickly."
"I see." He put his arm in the broken window to open it, jumping in the room.
"Did you find anything?" Milo asked him.
"Whoever it was, they fled once they shot Luciana. Reborn saw foot prints on the ground so Yamamoto and Kyoya are following that." He frowned. "But from the spot we found where the shooter was, Reborn used Leon to see what they had seen. They could have gone for anyone but..."
"Hiieee Chrome was right then! They were targeting senpai!" I raised my arm in victory. Arro slapped it down.
"Don't be happy! We're on Vongola grounds, whoever it was it was not just a random nobody aiming at you!"
"Right..." Although, Iemitsu would be happy to because it was what we wanted. I looked at the door when I heard footsteps. It was Ahmed with an old man.
"Ahmed, check the food and beverages for poison." He nodded and started to work.
"Decimo, I heard commotion, is everything alright?"
"Ha Lentini-san, actually..." I stopped listening to Tsunayoshi, stuck on the name.
That was Lentini? He was old, the few hair left on his head being white. His face was wrinkled and he was quite plump, but like Nono, he seemed like a nice grandpa.
Yet, knowing what I knew, I couldn't help but find him repulsive.
"Senpai was shot and it seems she was the target, so Reborn is..." Tsunayoshi trailed off as I got up. "Senpai, maybe you shouldn't move."
"I'm good." Lentini raised a brow at me before there was a flash of recognition in his eyes.
"You are Luciana, I remember you." I groaned and took off by the window.
Just being in the same room as him…
"Luciana, why are you running?"
"Catching up with the other two!" I told Reborn as I ran past him.
I reached them quickly and put my inhaler in my mouth. Takeshi opened his mouth and I stopped him, putting my hand on it.
"I am fine, Ryohei healed me." I removed my hand and he chuckled nervously.
"In that case..." Kyoya wasn't looking at us but in front of him, talking to someone on the phone. I showed him with a movement of the chin. "Hibari is talking with Kusakabe-san to see if they can do something."
"No lead?" He shook his head grimly, a harsh glint in his light brown eyes.
"It stopped abruptly and there's nothing. The Ninth's men will comb the area shortly, it's annoying we couldn't find anything ourselves."
"At least you went after them, so it gave the message you were aware and ready to greet them next time."
"Hopefully there won't be a next time! We can't have you shot every week Ana!" he said with a grin to calm the atmosphere, patting my shoulder. Kyoya shot us a brief look. "I'll go back to the mansion." I nodded and he left.
"You already have men in Italy?"
"Hn." So typical.
I mean...we had not really talked to each other since...we slept together.
"Anyway, Takeshi said it, the area will be searched. There's no need to continue."
"Don't you want to know who tried to kill you?" he asked me without looking at me.
"It's the first of a long list, we'll catch them soo..."
"Or maybe you want to drop the investigation because you already know who's targeting you and why." I blinked in confusion at Kyoya. His eyes were dead serious and almost staring in my soul.
"What makes you say th...Hey!" He grabbed me by my collar and brought me to his eye level. I was now tiptoeing.
"You can fool them but not me." He dropped me and I stumbled back, almost tripping. "You can wear a different uniform and order people around, but you can't fool me." He walked past me, his hands in the pockets of his suit and I stared at the spot he was in a moment ago.
I smirked nervously. His behavior briefly reminded mine when I was in the Future with his future self. I rubbed my head, black locks of hair escaping my ponytail.
I had forgotten how troublesome Hibari Kyoya truly was.
I followed him back to the mansion, where the Ninth now was as well.
"Are you okay?" he asked me and I rolled my eyes.
"Yes, I am." He nodded and sighed deeply.
"It was predictable though." I raised a brow. "Iemitsu told me he would start officially training you in the next few days, so your name will be revealed in the Mafia as his successor. People will try to come for your head now." I blinked, all eyes on me.
"Wait, you're the next External Advisor?" Diego asked me. I nodded mechanically.
"But that idiot Boss never told me he was planning to start the training."
Great.
