The sun rose in the early hours of the morning, as Summer is upon them. Its golden hue beaming in through the opened curtains, casting light over two intertwined bodies tangled within white, cotton sheets. A gentle breeze blew in from the cracked window, left open from the night before, carrying with it the fresh scent of flowers and distant citrus from the garden in the back, brushing ever so softly against bare skin.
It is Saturday, the weather is fair and neither teen had anything to do.
Jake stirred awake before the clock hit seven, quite early compared to most mornings. Normally, he would be either frustrated with the fact that he woke up so early when he did not have to, or angry with whatever he had to do that motivated him to rise at that hour. Today, however, he only feels a sense of peace and tranquillity.
With a stretch of limbs, he turned his body so that he was directly facing Polly, who is still soundly asleep beside him.
His hand reached out, fingers delicately caressing her cheek, brushing aside a few loose strands of greasy hair that had escaped her knot and fallen into her face overnight. He studied her features, admiring the contrast of the sunlight's orange glow across her clear skin, accentuating the curve of her lips and the rosy tip of her nose.
After a few minutes, his fingers travelled down to her shoulders, stopping to trace outlines of different shapes and lines, random in nature. Her skin is warm to his touch due to the heat from the sun hitting her directly.
The tint of her nose and the sound of her breathing indicates that the wind during the night might have triggered her sinus. He should see that the windows are closed that night before they go to sleep. Polly has weak lungs, and that cold draft can easily give her a summer flu.
There were quiet snores slipping past her throat, and while the majority would find the noise to be of the irritating type, Jake loved it. So much so, he cannot help but chuckle upon hearing it. Besides, it is easy for him to tune it out if he so desired, focusing solely on how peaceful she appeared, chest rising with every breath she took.
His head fell into the crevice of her neck, his lips pressing a kiss just below her jaw, the action sending a tingling shiver across her body, which, in turn, caused her eyes to flutter open. She hummed at the feeling of his lips against her skin, the sleep state she was in before wearing off.
"Good morning to you too, Jake." She giggled hoarsely as he lightly nipped at her earlobe. "You were getting impatient, I see."
The man hummed in turn. "Just a bit."
The blond situated himself so his nose was brushing against hers, before letting his lips meld with hers in a sweet, lingering kiss. She leaned into his touch, her fingers tangling into his locks of hair.
When his lips left hers, Jake pecked her softly on the tip of her nose before falling back into the mattress, pulling his girlfriend down with him so that her head was rested atop his chest, and, as she listened to the slow patter of his heartbeat, his hand began to soothingly rub against her back.
"Do you suppose we could just lay in bed all day?" The man breaks the silence suddenly.
Polly could not help the smile that danced amusingly on her lips at his words, even contemplating his request seriously herself.
"I admit that does sound quite nice." She responds, instead.
His hand slid up her back, brushing against her neck before landing in her hair, his fingers tangling between a few strands. The woman lets her eyes flutter closed again, content with the way his touch felt, the way he held her in his arms.
However, before Polly could actually drift off to sleep for the second time, an uncomfortable rumbling sound invaded the silence, signalling her hunger. She could only sigh, forcing herself out of his arms. A pouted frown fell on his lips as she did so.
"I'm afraid we can't just lay in bed all day. Turns out we still have to eat." The woman chuckled darkly.
Jake tightens his hold on her. "Can't we just stay here a bit longer?"
"Nope, sorry buddy." She pecked his lips before climbing out of the bed, still wrapped up in a blanket as she wandered out of the room.
"Buddy? Did you really just call me that?" His voice echoed through the hallway.
Polly let out a hearty laugh, certain there was an even deeper pout on his lips, even if she is not facing him anymore.
She walks downstairs to the kitchen and begin preparations for breakfast. As she began to pull ingredients and dishes out of the fridge and various cabinets, she could hear Jake's footsteps approaching behind her, the wooden planked floors creaking beneath his feet.
Upon reaching his girlfriend, he immediately wrapped his arms lovingly and possessively around her waist.
"What's on the menu for breakfast this morning?" The blond asks, laying a kiss on her neck.
"Pancakes, of course." Polly responded, unfazed.
His demeanour immediately brightened. "With chocolate chips?"
She smiled knowingly, pointing out the bag of chocolate chips on the counter. "As if I would ever forget, Jake. You'd yeet out and go to IHOP."
While Polly stirred the pancake mixture, pouring it onto the pan in little circles, she began to hum a tune, patiently waiting to flip each one as they browned. Jake smiled fondly, watching she with admiration just as he had done while she slept.
"I love you. You know that?" He confessed, laying another kiss to her neck.
Her heart fluttered at the words, just as it did the first time that he had said them.
"I love you too, Jake." She responded softly.
