Chapter 2:
Taggart removed his gas mask as he stared at the angry Sherriff Carter. "Oh sorry Jack. I didn't see you there.". Jack coughed out some of the dust. "What was that?". Taggart spoke quite excitedly. "My new hormone cocktail, also known as a love potion.".
Jack didn't look please. "What? Why will you do that?" he asked. Taggart shows to a bow and arrow on his desk. "I am Cupid this year.". Jack decided to pretend he never heard that.
"Taggart, Allison told me to tell you to get out for a bit. You have been down here for days now.". Taggart could only shrug. "Oh, come on Jack, lighten up a bit. It's Valentines day.". But Jack sneered. "I hate Valentines day.". He decided to leave Taggart and just do his daily job.
Using the elevator to reach ground floor, he walked through the corridor. He was still covered in that stuff Taggart shot him with. As he was walking, Jo caught up with him. "Hey uhmm Carter… whoa, what happen to you?" she asked. Jack only said one name: "Taggart.". She didn't need any more information. She then asked him something. "I was wondering if you were available tonight? Zane's been bugging me and I really don't want to go with him to the dance.". Jack then said: "I can't, Allison ha me on security duty. Sorry.". Jo then said: "Uhmm, o-okay. No problem.". When Jack left for the office, Jo then eyed the glass window viewing into Allison's office. "Oh, it's on.".
Jack arrived to find Andy standing. "Boss! I see you are covered in a unknown substance.". Jack then said: "Yeah, Taggart did this, man, this day keeps getting worse. I gotta clean up.".
He arrived home and was greeted by SARAH. "Good afternoon Sherriff. How was your day?". Jack then said: "Not swell, Taggart covered me in some weird cloud of pink dust.". SARAH then said: "What a shame, are you going to the dance tonight?". Jack then said: "Can't, keeping security detail.". SARAH then said something interesting. "Odd, there was never a security detail required at the Valentines Day party before.". Jack then said: "No?". SARAH replied: "No, it appears that Doctor Blake has been keeping you away from something.". Jack then said: "Or someone.".
Jack then decided that he was going, so he dressed in a tuxedo with a tie. Looking himself over in the mirror he said to himself. "Yeah, I look good.". He then left with SARAH wishing him luck, at the driveway, he saw Andy walking to him. "Boss, I was just uhmm…" but Jack then said: "She's all yours." He left and drove to Café Diem, where the party is held.
Arriving, he fixed his and hopped out. Walking up to the door, he opened it and found a whole lot of people. He walked to the counter where Vincent was. "Sherriff, what can I get you?". But before Jack could say anything, Allison sat next to him. "Well, hello Jack.".
"Jack? You never called me that?" he pointed out. Allison shrugged. "Well, I thought on using it tonight, so, wanna dance?". Jack thought on it. "Sure.". Allison took his hand and led him to the dance floor. It was a slow waltz, the sound of a piano played by Fargo filled the atmosphere.
As they danced, Allison looked up into his eyes. "So, did you receive any Valentines Day cards?" she asked. Jack said: "Two. Both anonymous.". Allison then said: "Wonder from who?".
As the music stopped, they parted and Jack went over to the bar. Sitting down, he breathed deep. "Wow." Was all he said. Then Jo sat down next to him, head resting on her hand. "So, whatcha been doing?". Jack then said: "I just danced with Allison, so yeah.".
Jo then looked across the room, to see Allison talking with Henry about something. 'It's not over yet.' She told herself.
