Frodo Baggins opened his burning eyes slowly to the bright yellow daylight that reflected through the room with an ethereal glow. He had been administered medicine to ease his pain and it had made him lose his grip on reality. As he began to take in his surroundings, his gaze met a figure to the right of his bed. His eyes stayed on the smiling figure for several seconds before any form of recognition touched upon him.

"...Gandalf?!" Frodo said, bewildered.

"Hello, Frodo. My dear, dear little hobbit." Said Gandalf, smiling and grasping Frodo's hand.

A melancholy smile came across Frodo's face, and he let out a sound that was something between laughing and crying.

"Gandalf!" He exclaimed, reaching his arms out to the wizard as tears pooled in his eyes.

Gandalf rose from the chair and sat on the edge of the bed, gently pulling the weak, thin hobbit up into his embrace. He held him and cradled his soft curly locks. Eventually, the tears stopped forming in Frodo's eyes but he still clutched Gandalf. He looked over Gandalf's shoulder with a numb, wide eyed expression.

"...I've died..…" Frodo said, in dawning realisation.

"No, no... You are not dead, Frodo."

"I-... I can't be with you if I'm not... I saw you... I saw you fall…"

Gandalf laid Frodo down.

"You are alive. We are both very much alive." Gandalf assured him.

Frodo shook his head and his eyes wandered.

"I believe you are feeling the effects of that medicine." Gandalf suggested.

Frodo was very distraught and confused, his eyes wild, though Gandalf tried to calm him. It was not long before Aragorn entered the room, looking tired, but more rested and much cleaner than last Frodo saw him.

"Hello, Gandalf," He said, then turned his eyes to Frodo and nodded in acknowledgement, "Frodo. How is our hero this morning?"

"That medicine has had an ill effect on him, I'm afraid."

"Oh?" Aragorn frowned and moved to Frodo's side, speaking in a low, soothing voice, "What's wrong, Frodo?"

Frodo whimpered turned his face away. Aragorn placed his hand on Frodo's head and spoke,

"Shh.. Are you in pain?"

"He believes he has died!" Gandalf informed him.

Aragorn glanced at Gandalf, his brows furrowed, then back to Frodo and let out a little saddened, sympathetic laugh.

"You are not dead, my friend. You are safe. You are in the kingdom of Gondor." Aragorn said, looking assuredly into Frodo's eyes.

The medicine was beginning to wear off a little and Frodo began to calm down. He shut his eyes and tried to escape the mind-bending reality that was presented to him. Eventually, he fell back asleep, even in the bright sunlight. Gandalf stayed beside him all the while.
