New Teacher at School
Student Featured: Nagito Komaeda
Monster Focus: Vampire
It was a special day at Hope's Peak Academy.
The school was planning to get a new teacher.
Nagito Komaeda heard that the teacher had an Ultimate talent, so he was especially thrilled. What could this teacher's talent be? What do they do? How did they achieve such a talent?
He had so many questions on his mind.
The Ultimate Lucky Student (well, one of the two) would get his answers pretty soon.
Hell, make that right now.
Someone with long ebony hair and ivory skin walked into the room, wearing a black leather coat over their equally black suit. The only color on them was their bright red eyes, with slit like pupils.
"Oh, I like them already." Celestia Ludenberg was quick to comment.
"Hello, students. I am Ketsueki Yami. I will be teaching advanced literary masterpieces to you all." They smiled, a thick British accent in their voice.
Everyone was either intrigued or intimated, if both wasn't an option.
"And I know you've heard rumors that I also have a talent. That is true."
Nagito pricked up his ears, his eyes lighting up.
"I'm an Ultimate Phlebotomist. I have a special talent in drawing blood, whether it be from patients or donors. Anyway, moving swiftly on…"
Komaeda pondered as he heard the talent.
How could one be a pro at drawing blood?
Somehow, he didn't want to interrupt the current session, though, so he kept patient and tried to focus as much as he could.
Later on, he decided to chat with others at the cafeteria.
"There's something I'm curious about regarding Mx. Ketsueki…"
"Let me guess. Their talent?" Hajime Hinata snarked. He was originally a reserve course student, but it was quickly remade into the Aspiring Ultimates program. Which gave the students equality. So now he could sit with the Ultimates whenever he wanted.
"How did you know?"
"Had a hunch."
"Ah… anyway… I'm just wondering how it's possible to be an Ultimate Phlebotomist… like it's just taking blood and giving it to people who need it, is it not?"
"Hmmm… well, if you know the types well, that could count… I think…" Ever-so-drowsy Ultimate Gamer Chiaki Nanami suggested.
"Probably not… but I think I know how." Celestia couldn't help but barge in.
"What if… we could be dealing with a vampire?"
"What?" Hajime narrowed his eyes.
"Such a wonderful thought, no?"
"Celeste. Last I checked, those were a myth."
"...Besides… regardless, it's daytime. Shouldn't they be burning?"
"Ah, Chiaki, but that is an invention by film. While vampires do prefer the darkness, the sun doesn't actually bother them. They can be out whenever they please."
"Oh… wait, do they actually glisten in sunlight?"
"OF COURSE NOT- I mean, no." Celeste was quick to tame herself. A rarity, but it could still happen.
"...Look, regardless, I personally don't think there's any way the new teacher is a vampire." Hajime insisted.
He then looked at Nagito, who seemed deep in thought ever since Celeste gave her words.
"Don't tell me you actually believe her."
"I mean, not exactly, but… it could be plausible."
Hajime decided to let him be for the moment.
That night, Nagito couldn't sleep.
Well, he rarely could, but this time it was different.
Yep. He was still thinking about Ketsueki.
Ever since Celeste said that he was wondering. Was Ketsueki just a goth that happened to have a blood-related talent? Or were they actually a powerful undead creature of the night?
The thoughts were there until morning. He decided to do his best to put it aside and start his day.
"Has anyone seen Ms. Fukawa lately?"
"Huh?"
Nagito turned to see Ultimate Moral Compass Kiyotaka Ishimaru asking many people.
"At first I thought she was just skipping school, which obviously made me upset. But now I'm worried."
"Why? She's a bitch." Leon Kuwata snarked.
"Anyway… nobody's heard from her in two whole weeks, bro." Mondo Owada told Taka.
"Has anyone stopped by her dorm? Or her house?"
"I did knock on her dorm. No answer." Sayaka Maizono admitted. "I tried calling her phone, too. Still nothing."
"Well, she's an antisocial person in general." Mondo admitted.
"That is true, but she actually responds by insulting us. It's never… silence… it feels like she actually disappeared."
"She was on the news recently. She's definitely gone missing." Makoto Naegi added.
This made Nagito curious.
Could Toko Fukawa's disappearance be related to… no, no, now he was overthinking. It's clear that stupid thought of a vampire being at Hope's Peak lingered in his mind.
Regardless, he felt that after class would be the perfect opportunity to learn more about Yami Ketsueki. He just had to.
When class was over, Nagito's heart raced more than ever, body trembled everywhere. Just looking at the Ultimate Phlebotomist gave him chills.
Regardless, he felt he should know more. He just had to.
"Uh… Mx. Ketsueki?"
"Oh, what is it, Mr. Komaeda?"
They were so calm and collected. Why was he so nervous regadless?
"I've been… very curious about you recently."
"Oh? How so?"
"Well… I'm the kid who fixates on Ultimate Talents… and I just want to know how you do yours so well. Is it alright if I get to know you more?"
They were silent. They looked… unsure. And yet that seemed to have quickly faded when they smiled.
"Sure. I'll let you into my house tonight."
Whoa. They were very welcoming, to say the least. Nagito was somewhat at ease.
"They invited you to visit them?!" Hajime was genuinely surprised.
"Yep! They're actually rather friendly in spite of their aesthetic!"
"Well… it's nice that they're willing to let you know about them… I think…" Chiaki commented.
Celestia thought it was a good idea to come in again.
"Sure… it seems nice that they invited you… but do you know what would be nicer?"
"Okay, I'll bite, what do you think would be nicer?" Hajime glared.
"If they turned you into a fellow night monster."
"OF COURSE." Hajime facepalmed.
"It could be why they invited you in the first place, you know?"
"Are you really so sure about that?"
"I'll just find that out myself." Nagito replied.
The house looked surprisingly normal.
In spite of Yami Ketsueki's fashion taste, their house looked like any other. Simple walls, simple television, simple bed, all that.
"I know it's not much, but I call it home. Go ahead and take a look around!"
Nagito decided to do just that, as he quickly realized if something looked too normal, there definitely has to be a dark secret.
He decided to start looking around the kitchen.
It was perfectly clean. He decided to open the fridge and took a look inside.
Regardless whether the suspicions were true or not, Nagito saw countless packs of bright pink blood.
For all he knew, they could be for giving them to those who need it. Not something to drink.
What Nagito did find off, however, were the countless amounts of packs with the same blood type.
"Someone must have been a really adamant donor."
"Indeed they were."
Nagito noticed Yami was in the kitchen as well.
The Ultimate Lucky Student took another look at the packs. This seemed like an amount to fill an entire person.
He decided not to say anything about it.
Quickly, he decided to keep looking.
He was given permission to see the Ultimate Phlebotomist's bedroom. It was pretty dark yet fancy, the bed looked comfortable.
Still, nothing unusual there.
Nagito managed to explore the restrooms, still not much.
The living room was good too, a nice long comfortable couch and a very neat advanced television set. Kami had every streaming service possible. Somehow.
Nothing seemed to catch Nagito's eye.
"Just to let you know, you can check the basement all you like, but I don't think you'd find it a pretty sight."
Nagito's eyes lit up, "of course."
He ran down there quickly.
The basement was definitely larger than most basements he was familiar with. The walls were of a black-ish stone. Cobwebs decorated the ceiling, some still inhabited by their makers. The stairwell was long and railless. There were even slightly lit torches hung on the walls.
It was all eerie, yet there was that touch that made all of it absurdly beautiful.
Nagito managed to safely reach the floor. Just his luck, he was sure.
He saw the dryer and the washing machine. Together as normal. Nothing unusual there.
Something then flew by him.
A swarm of bats flew to another part of the ever-so-high ceiling, making a cacophony of squeaks all the while.
"Either a pest issue or an unusual choice of pet."
As he walked through the darkened area, he noticed something unusual.
Finally.
There was a long, wide, line of coffins on the wall. The first ones definitely looked old and aged.
He walked down inspecting all of them. They were of various shapes, both width and size. Regardless, none of them were ever small. The chills in the Ultimate lucky Student's bones could only increase.
Nagito couldn't count how much they were, yet it definitely felt like an eternity to get to the last one.
It looked very new. Like it was only there about weeks ago.
The coffin was closed only with buckles.
Using his fingers to take one off each, he figured this was his chance to confirm his suspicions.
Nagito Komaeda closed his eyes in anticipation as he opened the lid, hiding behind it.
He immediately heard a loud thud that hit the floor.
The Ultimate Lucky Student didn't want to…
...but he opened his eyes to a shocking sight.
What hit the floor was the corpse of Toko Fukawa, the Ultimate Writing prodigy.
Her skin was paler than ever, absolutely white. Her face was distorted to a horrified look of agony, the last expression on her face before her life was stolen.
What Nagito especially noticed was the marks punctured into her. There were no remaining signs of blood.
Fukawa was completely dry and drained.
"Well, it's not like anyone's gonna miss her."
The thing that disturbed Nagito was that someone managed to find her blood actually good.
Regardless, this confirmed his suspicions on her absence.
And in turn Celestia Ludenberg's theory was proven true.
Yami Ketsueki, the Ultimate Phlebotomist, was a vampire.
"So it seems you've found out. I'm sorry you had to know this way."
Nagito turned to see Ketsueki behind him. They looked calm, yet there was also a sign of regret on their face.
Somehow, the Ultimate Lucky Student took pity on them.
"I'll try my best to keep it a secret for you… but I don't think that'll be enough… Anything I can do to make it up for you?"
"Well… not only do I think you'd be perfect for an assistant…"
Nagito gave them a look of curiosity.
"I've also heard you have many, many ailments…"
Well… they definitely weren't wrong on that.
"From what my kind has told me, if they were to turn another, all their more harmful afflictions would no longer bother them…"
Nagito thought about it.
"I'll take your offer."
Yami looked at him.
"Alright, then. Let's go."
The Ultimate Lucky Student then saw a dark aura manifest and surround Mx. Ketsueki. Once it vanished, so did their original form. In their place was that of a large black bat, who proceeded to fly out of the basement.
Nagito followed suit, using the ever so long stairwell.
The two were now in the living room. Nagito had lied down on the couch, waiting as Ketsueki explained their methods.
"I always advise my donors to close their eyes, to make sure they do not know of my afflicition's existence. Then I take not too much, as that could turn them on accident. My affliction also has made it so I do not salivate, therefore fears of contamination are non-existent."
Nagito listened very closely. All of this knowledge… It was actually amazing to him! This talent seemed perfect for a vampire!
"Of course, there are others that I have led in on my secret. They all understood well, thankfully, they were the ones I knew would. They are the ones I have turned. You however, are the first willing to be an assistant of mine. Then again, I never exactly asked the question before, soo…"
The Ultimate Lucky Student was definitely intrigued. Then the time came.
"Regardless, I still advise you to close your eyes and relax. Take deep breaths… when it's over you won't need to anymore."
Nagito did just that.
As his eyes met the darkness, he felt a sting to his neck.
Then nothing.
He then visualized various colors smoothly swirling before his eyes.
He felt everything that stopped him… slowly disappear.
The pale, white-haired boy felt himself smile as within it, he felt a slight sharpness as he gently slid his tongue around.
It was a fine day at Hope's Peak Academy.
Nagito managed to focus more. Anything that had been worrying him recently had vanished.
He felt more active than ever.
The other students just thought it was his luck on his side, but in actuality, it was that and so much more.
"So I take it that your visit actually went well?" Hajime asked.
"Oh, it was, actually!" Nagito responded.
"That's actually pretty good to know… I think…"
Celestia came in once more.
"Were my suspicions correct? And did they actually turn you?"
"Well…" Nagito turned to her.
"I'll let you be the judge of that."
Celestia could've sworn his eyes briefly flashed red.
