Jasper: Finally we are back with Distance Between Heart. I am a little concerned about where I wound up.
Peter: I think we're all concerned about where you and Char are. But we'll find out this chapter!
Bella: Here we go!
The Crimson Eyed Drifter: Distance between Hearts
Chapter Twenty-Eight
London, Ontario (Canada) – Nightwalker's Base
Peter Whitlock
"I'm surprised you're taking a car vamps," Leah said to me as we sped down the streets of London in my vehicle.
"We may be fast but we aren't that fast. Keep an eye out for the police," I replied as I took a sharp left turn. Just five more minutes and we would be there.
I continued to drive at this reckless speed until we reached the base and I couldn't stop myself from shouting "What the fuck?!"
The entire base was nothing but rubble.
So many vampires had been brutally torn apart with their limbs scattered in the rubble but I knew my baby was still alive.
I would have felt her die due to our bond.
The two of us exited the car and looked around, me trying to catch Jasper or Charlotte's scent while Leah bent down to observe the damage. "Holy shit…Who could have done this?" Leah asked me as I frowned in frustration.
Charlotte's scent was strong where I was standing but it then trailed high into the sky until I lost it while Jasper was very faint.
How the hell did Charlotte get launched so far up?
Just then I heard a groan coming from the actual building, which caused both Leah and I to look, only to see Eric stumble out as he leaned on his partner Felicia, his left leg torn off from his body.
"Eric, Felicia" I said with a respectful nod in their direction.
"Peter. Good to see you again," Eric replied with a grimace before he turned to Leah narrowed his eyes. "You brought one of those here? Are you out of your mind?"
"I have a name tall, dark and gruesome," Leah replied dryly. "And yeah. These assholes caused a ruckus and we followed them and are helping. Problem?"
"None at all," Felicia replied softly. "Be nice Eric."
"I'm sorry, Leah, was it? I'm not in a good mood because my base and my crew was fucking slaughtered…" Eric said, his voice weak and exhausted.
"What happened here and where are Jasper and Charlotte?" I asked the pair with a frown.
"Well last I saw, Charlotte was thrown into the air by that telepath and Jasper took on Veiss," Eric explained.
"Telepath?" I asked.
"Called herself Edythe. She came with Veiss and this other vampire named Eleanor," Eric said. "They must have had a scent hider with them because they came out of nowhere. We didn't stand a chance."
"Great…Are you able to tell where Jasper was this Veiss guy went?" Leah asked as she slipped her hands into her pockets.
"No telling. His scent fades away once you go through the vampire-made holes in the walls," Eric replied dryly.
"Well this is fucked. What happens now?" Leah asked me with a scowl.
"Best we can do is try to find Jasper," I replied with an unneeded sigh.
"Look, why don't you try and find Charlotte. If she was launched in the air like a rocket, who knows if she needs help or not. I can find Jasper. I do have the superior smelling powers after all," Leah told me with a grin.
"Do I show my concern that much?" I asked her softly.
"Yeah, you really do," Leah replied.
"Alright. I'll go find her. You find Jasper but if things look bad, you come back," I told her.
"No problem Peter," Leah replied before she took a deep breath and said "Time to go to work."
I then watched with sickening fascination as she changed into a medium-large sized grey wolf.
The wolf growled at me and motioned for me to go with her head. I nodded and the wolf gave a grin and dashed off, no doubt following Jasper's scent.
"You and your bunch never cease to amaze me," Eric said.
"I know, it's a gift," I said with a smirk. "But do you need any help here before I go find my wife?"
"Go," Eric told me. "There's nothing left here to salvage…"
"I'm sorry. I truly am," I told him.
"I know…" Eric said softly as he looked down, trying to hide his grief as best as he could. "You need to get going. There is no telling what can happen to Charlotte. We will be here."
"The hell you will," I told him before I wrote down the hotel address we had and gave it to him. "You go there and recover. I would be insulted if you didn't."
Felicia took the paper from me and said "Thank you."
"You don't have to thank me. We need you strong to get revenge after all," I responded with a grin.
Eric looked up and a faint smirk appeared on his face. "Yeah…" He replied.
"You guys take the car, I'll be on foot from here," I told him before I tossed Eric the keys and nodded. "Good luck," I told him before I ran off.
I hope Leah can find Jasper soon because fuck, Eric and his band was good. If they were wiped out like this, we're going to need all the help we can get.
London, Ontario (Canada) – Streets
Edythe
"Wow sis, we really cleaned up shop back there, Lord Frost will be pleased big time. I bet we'll be looking at a promotion into the Cobalt Guardians," Eleanor said with a boastful tone beside me as I spared her a single glance.
"The mission is not over yet daughter. We must stay vigilant. The fact that the God of War has teamed up with the Nightwalkers show that they may have partners everywhere," Father told her.
Couldn't have said the words better myself.
Not that Eleanor would have listened to me anyway.
"Yeah, yeah Pops," Eleanor whined as she hoisted Whitlock's unconscious body on her shoulders. "I gotta say though, he's one fine looking man. What I wouldn't do for a tumble with him."
"You said the same thing about that other vampire I launched away," I noted.
"What can I say? She hit the right buttons too," Eleanor grinned before she patted Whitlock's ass and said "Boy, I still can't believe we were able to do it though. Wait till everyone back at the castle get a load of this."
The three of us stopped in front of our black truck and father popped open the truck where Eleanor placed Whitlock's body inside before she shut the trunk.
"So how long will he be out for?" Eleanor questioned.
"As long as I am able to concentrate, as long as we need him to be and then some," I replied.
Despite popular belief, vampires were able to sleep but it took very special circumstances to cause it. Those tanks that the Nightwalkers had is one way, severe blood withdrawal and someone overriding their mind.
I chose the latter for the feared God of War but I wouldn't be able to hold it for long so hopefully, nothing else wou-
"Almost there!" A voice rang out in my mind.
Of course.
My luck was never so good.
"Someone is coming," I announced.
"Oh! Another challenger?" Eleanor asked excitedly, her foot already out the car.
"We have acquired our target. No point in engaging in combat," Father told us.
Eleanor pouted and whined out "Fine…" before she got her foot into car. Just then, a grey wolf came crashing through a window and headed straight for us.
"Is that a fucking wolf?!" Eleanor yelled.
I was stunned as well at the sight of this creature but then I heard a voice shout "I found you!"
"The wolf…It thinks like a human," I told my father and sister.
"Impossible," Father replied.
"It is the truth," I said.
"Do you think it's a werewolf?" Eleanor asked, excitement rising in her voice again.
"No, this is something else," Father replied before he began to drive. "Shake the wolf off of us Edythe."
I nodded and opened the door to see the wolf running at top speed towards us. I lifted my hand and a large van lifted up off the ground and launched it towards the wolf. The wolf leapt into the air and avoided the van then landed on the ground to continue the chase.
"Impressive," I noted before I lifted my hand and raised three more cars and launched them towards the wolf, who skidded beneath the first one, leapt of the second one but got nailed by the third one, which sent it tumbling to the ground before it bounced to its feet.
"Motherfucker that hurt!" the voice screamed in my head.
'Submit or I will make you submit,' I told her.
"Get bent! You got someone I need!" The voice said as the wolf launched itself back after us.
I lifted up five more cars and a motorcycle and launched one after the other and watched as the wolf avoided each one, never losing her speed. She was close to the car…
I swung my arm and caused the street in front of the wolf to uproot itself and then thrusted my arm forward and caused it to slam into the wolf but it leapt over the wave of gravel and began to fall in our direction.
"Gotcha!" she screamed.
'Not yet,' I said before I lifted a motorcycle and launched it like a Frisbee, which slammed into her head and sent the wolf soaring backwards into the air. The wolf crashed to the ground with a roll before it rose to its feet.
"I'm not stopping…" She told me but I could sense I had injured her with that last blow.
I replied 'We need him more unfortunately. Either stand down or I will do something drastic!.
"You're going to have to do it then!" The voice yelled as the wolf began to charge again but I could tell it was a little slower than before.
'Very well…Don't say I didn't warn you…' I replied before I said to my father "Stop the car."
"Stop it?" My father asked curiously.
"Yes," I responded.
The car stopped and I stepped out of it and took a deep breath and placed my hands to the ground and began to slowly raise it, causing the two story brick house building beside me to rumble before being ripped off the ground.
"I warned you…" I said softly before I let out a scream and launched the two story home towards the oncoming wolf.
"Holy shit!" the voice screamed as it skidded to a stop only for the house to crash into her where I then pushed it towards the bank behind her as hard as I could, which caused both buildings to crumble with a large crash.
I fell to my knees as alarmed screams was heard throughout the various buildings around us. "Yo!" Eleanor said as she stepped out the car. "You didn't have to do that! I was hoping to fight her."
"She was a threat…I had to stop her…" I replied, feeling lightheaded.
"Well you creamed her Edythe. Let's get the hell out of here," Eleanor said.
I nodded and rose to my feet, albeit shakily, and began to make my way back into the car when I heard "If you can hear me…Nice shot…"
I turned around to see a woman's figure rising from the rubble of both buildings.
She was naked and had various scratch makes on her body but even from this distance, I could see a smirk on her face and determination in her eyes. "Yo! Is that her?!" Eleanor exclaimed before she added "That sexy ass specimen is tough! Perfect vampire material of you ask me."
I was floored.
'Who are you?' I asked.
"Leah Clearwater. The baddest bitch in the world,..Literally…" She replied. I could see her take a step forward but it was on shaky legs. She survived but she's on the verge of losing consciousness.
'My name is Edythe Cullen…' I told her. 'Father of Veiss Cullen…You are certainly tenacious and if we weren't enemies, I would even go far to wish you would join us on our crusade to assist Lord Frost in his mission…But you are interfering by trying to save the one we need…'
"You're a Cullen? Impossible…You were never in Forks…" The girl said as she fell to one knee.
'If you are speaking about the pathetic Cullen Clan which our target is affiliated with, we are not with them…' I replied as I began to get back into the car. 'Leah Clearwater…I have a feeling we'll meet again and when that comes. I look forward to fighting you…'
"Drive father," I told him.
He chuckled and started the car and as I shut my eyes, I could hear her voice reply "Heh…It's on bitch…" before she went quiet.
She must have fallen unconscious.
"So now that the hot piece of ass is out of the picture, let's get home. I really want to sleep.
Goodbye Leah Clearwater…I looked to seeing you again.
Forks, Washington – Cullen Residence
Alice Cullen
I'm on edge.
I don't know but for the last thirty minutes or so, I've been unable to focus.
I even tried to hunt and I couldn't bring myself to.
Why?
Why was I so anxious?
I know I opted to stay behind to watch over Charlie but I should be going there to help them…To see Leah…
Leah…
I shouldn't care as much as I do about her. She's supposed to be my kinds mortal enemy and yet I…I…
I should be there…
Was this how Bella felt when Jasper had left?
I paused mid-step at the thought. There was no way I just had that thought…Did I just insinuate that Leah was my mate?
No…That can't be…She is a Shape shifter, the hunter to my kind…I couldn't be mated to her! I couldn't!
"Al..ice?"
My eyes widen in surprise.
That voice…
Please let it be a trick. Some kind of spell that old with Lucina concocted. Please….
"Leah?" I responded, holding an unwanted breath.
There was silence…And then I heard it.
It was faint but I could hear it.
"You're loud…"
Oh my god…
Rain: So now Alice is experiencing a similar event with Leah as Bella did with Jasper…But is having a bit of a different reaction. The next chapter will focus on Edythe some more so until then…
Leah: Peace out!
