"Do I look desperate to you? Because I'm feeling pretty desperate."

— Jasper Jordan, "Coup de Grâce"

Two of the men were dragging their feet as they entered their 10th kilometer of searching. Kane and Allan Matossi were still walking with determination; Kane thought Allan was more determined to find the missing people — he had been so close to the Jordans. Sinclair, on the other hand, looked like he was about to collapse.

"Kane, it's time to go back," Jaha said from the back of their group. Kane shot him a glare and continued on. "None of the other groups have found anything."

That was true. Kane's group was northeast of camp and there were four other groups spaced out to the east of Traver. None of them had radioed with any good news.

"Kane, there's no sign of them," Sinclair added, his feet dragging on the ground.

"You volunteered to come, Jacopo," Kane said sternly, "you're welcome to leave."

Jaha and Sinclair exchanged glances, but continued to follow Kane and Allan.

"Jaime was disorientated," Allan began, "he could have come from any direction. I have always thought that, like Farm Station, Tesla crashed somewhere in Ice Nation territory. It would only make sense that they crashed in the northeast of Traver rather than the southeast like he had come in. I think—"

Kane tuned him out. He knew that Allan was one of the smartest people in camp, but he needed to keep his focus on the search. He scanned the ground for any sign of disturbance and occasionally bent down to check prints in the mud. The longer that they walked, the more he was starting to side with Jaha and Sinclair, but he just couldn't go back to Jasper empty-handed.

"Kane. Come in, Kane."

His hand flew to his radio. "What is it Octavia?"

"We found them."

"How many?" Kane glanced at Jaha, Sinclair, and Allan who had huddled around the radio.

"Ten survivors."

"Did they say how many they started with?"

"Sixty-five."

"Is Janine Jordan among them?"

There was a pause. "Yes."

"Are they injured?"

"As bad as Jasper's dad. We need help."

Kane motioned for the others to run back to the rover two kilometers back. "We're on our way."

"Kane…"

"What is it?"

"Some of them are from Farm Station."

Three rovers screeched to a halt, lights shining in the early stages of darkness. Kane, Jaha, Sinclair, and Allan hopped out of one; Bellamy, Nate, Harper, and Clarke out of the second; and Scanlan, Monty, Bennett, and Helm out of the third. The twelve of them ran over to where Lincoln, Octavia, Emori, and Murphy stood providing oxygen and salved to the irradiated group.

Jaha ran toward a father and son struggling for air; he muttered, "Geoff, Ethan."

Kane recognized Janine Jasper immediately, he rushed to her side and found her under the care of a young Grounder girl. He looked at the girl and asked, "Who are you?"

The girl didn't respond. He tried again, "Houkom yu hir? Chon yu bilaik? | Why are you here? Who are you?"

The girl looked up at him in surprise, but didn't answer.

Lincoln, treating Kara Cooper, called, "She found them."

Kane turned back to the girl. "Mochof. | Thank you."

One by one, the patients were loaded into the four rovers. The Grounder girl sat in Kane's rover and he let Jaha drive so that he could be with her. She was twisting her hands, staring at Janine and Kara barely conscious on the floor.

"Yu don kep em klin | You saved them," Kane whispered. She didn't look up. "Ai laik Chansla Markos kom Skaikru, ai mana yu nou bash op. | I'm Marcus the chancellor of the Sky People, I mean you no harm."

She continued to stare at the women on the floor. He continued, "Ai yongon kom Podakru. Em laik Benja. | My child is a Lake Person. His name is Benja."

The Grounder girl finally looked up at him. "Ai laik Madi kom Louwoda Klironkru. | I am Madi from Shallow Valley Clan."

"Os hit yu op, Madi. Haukom yu hir? | Nice to meet you, Madi. Why are you here?" Kane asked, leaning forward.

"Ai seingeda don won op. Louwoda Klironkru don won op. | My family is dead. Shallow Valley Clan is dead."

"Moba, Madi | I'm sorry, Madi," Kane said quietly. "Ai get Heda Leksa in, yu na ste os. | I know Commander Lexa, you will be okay."

Madi muttered bitterly, "Heda Leksa don ban au yumi gon wan op. | Commander Lexa left us to die."

Kane walked down the long hall to Engineering. Madi was at his side, looking around tentatively. Kane pushed the door open to reveal a plethora of computers and other mechanical equipment. Madi just stared. Kane cleared his throat and the young boy at a computer turned around in his chair. Benja asked, "Who's this?"

"Em don biyo yu laik Podakru | He said you are a Lake Person," Madi said shyly. Benja glanced at Kane before replying, "Sha, ai don laik Podakru. En nau, ai laik Skaikru. | Yes, I was a Lake Person. And now, I'm a Sky Person."

"Ha? | How?" Madi asked.

Benja motioned to Kane. "Em laik ai nontu. Em don kep ai klin. Bilaik yu. | He is like my father. He saved me. Like you."

"Yu ste klir hir, Madi | You are safe here, Madi," Kane said quietly. "Chich Benja op. Em na sis yu au. Ai na komba raun dena. | Talk with Benja. He can help you. I'll be back soon." Madi nodded and took the seat next to Benja.

Kane walked back down the hallway, listening to Madi and Benja's muffled conversation. He descended the stairs to the first floor and walked down the hall to Medical. He hadn't moved more than three steps into the room before he was being hugged by Jasper Jordan. The boy whispered, "You found them."

Kane patted his back and led him over to his parents. Janine and Jaime were side-by-side. Jaime holding his wife's hand, his own had significantly fewer burns. Kane looked around for Abby and found her, surprisingly, next to Lexa who was having her blood drawn. Luna, Aden, and six other Grounder children were receiving the same treatment. Kane walked over to them and asked, "What's this?"

"We came to help," Lexa said as Abby removed another vial of her blood.

It dawned on Kane. "You're giving them Nightblood."

Abby nodded. "It's working. Jaime has recovered significantly."

Kane looked around to the filled beds. He spotted Kara Cooper, Geoff Hardy, and his son, Ethan, in beds to the right. To the left were members of Farm Station: Mark Black, Masayo Takada, and Brenda Turner. In the beds next to them were people he believed to be called Caspian Trudeau and Jin Park; he hadn't seen the latter two since Jaha left to find the City of Light. As he recalled, the former was a cook and the latter an environmental scientist. Both would be useful.

"I hear a Louwoda Klironkru girl came back with you," Lexa said as Abby took more blood.

Kane nodded.

"And…?" Lexa asked. "I would like to meet her."

"That can't happen," Kane said matter-of-factly.

"Why not?"

"She believes you are responsible for the death of her clan."

"I sent the Louwoda Klironkru ambassador to retrieve them," Lexa said, standing up despite Abby's protests. "It is his fault they are dead, not mine."

"Give her some time and then tell her," Kane reasoned. "She's just a child who lost her family and her clan. She needs time to adjust."

Lexa looked toward Aden and the other Grounder children. "Go talk to her."

"Yes, Heda," Aden said. Jackson pulled away the last vial of blood and the seven children walked out of the room.

"I saved your people today, Kane, you should do well to remember that," Lexa said before storming out of the room, her guard following her.

Kane let out a sigh and sat down in Lexa's vacated chair. He felt a hand on his shoulder and looked up to see Abby looking affectionately at him. She said, "You brought home another child?"

He smiled. "This one is named Madi."

Sorry for taking so long! I have three weeks left of my master's degree so hopefully I'll be able to post more regularly after that. I hope that this was work the long wait!
