Moving

There was a burning, searing sense of regret, and then she ducked her head, looking away from his eyes.

She shouldn't have said that, shouldn't have started this conversation in the first place. She didn't even know why she had. It was stupid, she was stupid. It wasn't the dishes that were the problem, it was…

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. Sorry…" It sounded, well, not sincere and she hated herself for that. She meant it, just didn't know how to express herself.

Duo blinked, his lips twitching in a faux forming of a smile. "I - I really don't know what to say. I didn't know, I didn't…"

"It's not true," she insisted, "I know, I said it, but I never meant it. I'm... just tired and I need," she paused, "I'm not quite sure, but, it's not you Duo. It's just," she shakes her head, hating herself more when tears start to form in her eyes, "I don't know where I am right now. In life, in everything."

"I can leave, if you really want." He shrugs, as if all of this means nothing to him. "Just say the word Hilde, and I'll be out of this door quicker than you can say sweet zombie Jesus."

"No!" She yells, then back away at her own voice, rubbing at her own arm nervously she continues more normally. "I don't ever want to say that," she smiles slightly, "I don't want to say sweet zombie Jesus."

"You want me to stay?" He sounds as nervous as she feels.

"Yeah… God, Duo. I'm stupid. That's why, I ever said something so silly, so retarded."

"Can't help how you're born Hilde, so I'll forgive you." He grins, and Hilde stills the urge to hit him. This time.

"Well good." She grins back.

"But… Hilde?" She looks up at him. "If you ever need someone to talk to. I'm here and… I'll always try."

She doesn't try to hide the tears this time. Throwing her arms around him, Hilde whispers softly in his ear, "Thanks Duo."

Placing his two hands on her waist, Duo loses his stiffness and relaxes against her, "No problem babe." Kissing her softly on the head, they both smile, through the other doesn't see.
