On the day Edward and Alphonse left,Winry cried.

Both were leaving to join the army.
And both were stummbling into unspeakable dangers.

But what bothered her most of all was that she wouldn't be there to help them.
To comfort them.

To protect ihim/i

She could no longer sneak into Edward's room late at night to see if he was safe.
She couldn't pull his covers onto him if he happened to kick them off;Or push the golden locks out of his face.

And no longer could she hold him.

She used to craddle his head between her chin and chest on nights after automail surgery.
Carefull not to wake him,she would rest her head on his.

Her hands, although rough from her mecanic lifestyle, would gently trace the line where fleash meet metal.
All the while,rose-colored lips tickled his ears with sweet whisperings.

As she stayed up late to do this, sometimes she would feel tremors beneath her fingertips.
Most of the time it was simply him trying to move slightly beneath her weight.
But other times it was those cursed nightmares, mixed with the pain and fever that automail brought.

His brow would crunch into an ugly posture, and his teeth would tightly clench.
In sharp spasms hid body would jerk, followed by a moan.

But instead of letting go,or running to her granny for help; She tightened her grip on him.

If she kept this up,his sobs would eventually quiet, and leave him to fall back into a peacefull sleep.
But until he did,her eyes were sealed shut.

His breathing was no longer rythmic, and his chest clashed against hers as he struggled for air.

Not knowing what else to do,she would do the only thing she could...

She cried

Her tears sparkled in the moonlight as they gracefully flowed onto his face.
Some would entangle themselves in his eyelashes, while others caressed his slightly parted lips.

She knew Edward would be alright, but still her tears fell in warm, salty streams.

About the time he regained his breath, his tongue would inaccurately lick at her tears.
Trying to batter away the annoying droplets.

But the tears never stopped.
She wouldn't let them.

Because if she didn't cry for the Elric's,who would?

So as she watched the two fade into the distance,Winry wept.

Because, for some reason, she knew they would need a lot of her tears.
