Hunter's Story- The Beginning

It was almost time for the naming ceremony and her pups were romping together in a clearing. At midnight they would travel by themselves from the edge of the White Moon Pack's territory to Wolf's Peak where they would be named. A loud yelp startled her out of her thoughts. She gave a disapproving bark as she saw the wound on the smallest female, caused by one of her older brother. She grabbed a herb on her way to them, chewed it up and licked it into the pup's cut. She nipped the pup responsible and looked into the sky, it was time. She led her five pups to five different points on the territory's edge and left them there. She ran quickly back to Wolf's Peak and at midnight exactly she howled – the signal to start.

She had been waiting for two hours and she was starting to get worried when a small bark sounded and her youngest pup crawled out of the bushes. The large white wolf sighed in relief, surely the others would be here soon, but another hour passed and there was no sign of her other four pups. She looked to her mate, amber eyes filled with worry. He nodded and she raced off into the darkness, not noticing her young pup following closely.

She reached the place where she left her oldest pup, but the trail, after three hours, had gone cold. Her ears drooped until she heard a sharp bark. She looked behind her and saw her young pup waging her tail looking down a faint tear in the brush. She cocked her head to the side and followed when the young female bounded down it. After a few minutes the young pup broke into a run. After an hour the young pup slowed and gave a howl. The large white wolf started when four pup-howls answered. The two ran and burst into a clearing where the four missing pups sat huddled together. The smallest pup wolf-smiled at her mother and trotted off to join her brothers and sister.

Later, at the naming ceremony the smallest pup went up to her mother an received her pack name, but her mother stalled when she got to the pup's forest name. What is her forest name to be? Asked her father. The mother stared at the young pup, calculating. The two looked almost identical, same fur, same eyes, but the pup was lither in her youth, and yet more strongly built. Suddenly her mother smiled, Hunter, her name is Hunter.
