In the middle of the night on the edge of island was a village that looked to be a cross between ancient architecture and advanced technology "This is Onyx. It's twelve days north of hopeless and a few degrees south of freezing to death. It's located solidly on the meridian of misery. My village. In a word, sturdy. It's been here for seven generations, but almost every building is new. We have fishing, hunting and charming view of the sunsets". A group of Mobani sheep were in the field at a farm eating grass "The only problems are the pests". A small dark purple creature suddenly attacked one of the sheep "You see, most places have badniks or Goliaths". A young silver hedgehog got out of bed hearing noises "We have-". He opened the door to see villagers running from a flying grey metal ball with yellow eyes. It released a shockwave creating an earthquake at the boy who closed the door "Wisps". The hedgehog flipped a small switch under the back of his shoe. A shield formed around him before it turned invisible. Wisps of different shapes and colours were attacking the village. Some were absorbing into animals transforming them into bigger more powerful versions of the wisps "Most people would leave. But not us".
They started snatching up the remaining animals as the villagers fought them off with both old weapons like axes and swords while also using laser weapons "My people have stubbornness issues". The silver hedgehog runs out of the house surprisingly grinning "My name is Silver. Creative name, I know. But it's not the worst". Other villagers eyes him as he ran "Parents believe any name can frighten off gnomes and trolls. Like our charming demeanour wouldn't do that". A yellow wisp in the shape of a drill burst out of the ground knocking Silver on his back. A red echidna stood over him and screams "Morning" he said pleasantly before running after the drill wisp. Silver gets up and ran past multiple villagers who all watched him "What're you doing here" "Get inside!" "Get back inside". He almost runs right into the path of a rocket when "Silver!" he suddenly got pulled back by his quills. A black hedgehog with red patters lifted him up "What is he doing here? What're you doing out? Get inside!" he threw him forward "That's Shadow the Hedgehog, chief of the tribe. They say when he was a baby, he popped a Frenzy's head clean off of its shoulders". Shadow saw a fire wisp fly past, he picked up a rock and threw it knocking the wisp down "Do I believe it? Yes, I do". He turned to a human man "What've we got" "Drills. Bursts. Cubes. Oh, and a Quake". An explosion went off nearby by but neither reacted "Any Lasers?" "None so far" "Good". Large torches were raised up illuminating the sky allowing all the wisps to be seen.
Silver ran into a workshop where a bulky red and black robot was working "You are late. I calculated you were carried off". Silver put on an apron "Who, me? Come on, I'm way too tough for their taste. They wouldn't know what to do with all this" "Target practice based off my data". Silver opened a door, multiple men threw in weapons which he took "The metalhead with attitude and interchangeable hands is Omega. One of the few robots to ever reach our little island. He was captured and reprogrammed when I was little, and I've been his apprentice ever since". He puts the guns and lasers in one pile and the melee weapons in a furnace. He looked out and saw Shadow leading men past a burning building "See? Old village, lots and lots of new buildings". He then saw a group of kids his age running over to the building with buckets of water. First was a blue walrus wearing a yellow hat and tool belt "That's Rotor". Then a black hedgehog with yellow stripes "Shard". Two birds were fighting off a bucket of water, one a male green hawk and a the other a female purple swallow "The twins: Jet and Wave and…". Finally, a lilac cut in a purple tailcoat threw water on the house. She put out the fire but as she turned around another blast hit the house making it explode. Silver smiled watching her eyes widened "Blaze". The group ran to another burning building "Oh, their job is so much cooler".
Silver tried to climb out to follow them, but Omega grabbed him. Silver sighed "Oh, come on. Let me out, please. I need to make my mark" "You have made multiple marks. All in the wrong places" "Please, two minutes. I'll kill a wisp. My life will get infinitely better. I might even get a date". Omega put him down "You can't lift a sword. You can't hold a gun steady". He picked up a strange looking weapon "You can't even fire a refractor". A mongoose grabbed the refractor from him and used it to shoot down a drill wisp. Silver backed away to a cannon "Ok, fine, but this will throw it for me". He tapped it and it suddenly activated nearly taking off the head of someone outside. Omega stepped closer to Silver "This is your malfunction" "Mild calibration issue" "Silver. If you wish to get out to fight Wisps you need to stop…". He pointed to him "This". Silver narrowed his eyes "But you just pointed to all of me" "Correct. Stop being all of you". Silver slowly nodded "Ohh… You, sir, are playing a dangerous game. Keeping all this much raw power contained? There will be consequences!". Omega stared at him "I will take my chances. Sharpen swords now". Silver takes a large sword and uses a grinder to sharpen it "One day, I'll get out there. Because killing a wisp is everything around here". Outside a group of fiery wisps were burning down a group of houses "Burst Wisps are sure to get me at least noticed". Drill wisps were possessing a group of sheep "Drills are tough. Taking down one of those would definitely get me a girlfriend". Blue cube wisps were dropping down and grabbing rows of fish "Cubes? Forming constructs out of blue light. Those are high status".
Shadow was directing cannons at the edge of the city "Concentrate fire on the lower bank!". The cannons fired down on three wisp attaching discs to them. They fell to the ground the impact activating the discs. They were forced out of the Mobani they were possessing. The sheep ran away, and the wisps lied paralysed on the ground. "And then there's the Grey Quake. Only the best go after those. They have this nasty habit of causing earthquakes". Shadow looked over the edge and saw a three eyed iron wisp. Shadow had no fear on his face "Reload! I'll take care of this". Shadow took a black sword and hit the Wisp down "But the ultimate prize is the wisp no one's ever seen". A cyan light covered the village "LASER!" "Get down!". The cannon was suddenly sliced in half forcing Shadow and the others to jump off "This thing never steals food, never needs to possess a host, and never misses". Silver watched form the window as another tower was destroyed by the laser "No one has ever killed a Laser. That's why I'm gonna be the first". Silver turned back to see Omega install a gatling gun onto his right arm "Stay here, Meatbag. They require my assistance". He heads for the door but then turns back to Silver "Stay". He pauses "Here". He turns back outside and starts firing up at the wisps.
Silver was suddenly running through the village pushing a cannon on wheels. Nearby a group of purple sharp toothed wisps surrounded a group of sheep. Shadow suddenly stood over them on the roof of a building and threw an electrified net stopping them. "Let's get them!" the soldiers surrounded and overpowered the wisps. Silver took the cannon to the edge of a hilltop and activated it. He aimed it up at the sky "Come on. Give me something to shoot at". He watched intently when they were suddenly a cyan flash. He fired and waited a few moments then he heard a noise. He waited and his cannon's screen showed "Target paralysed" it then showed the location to be somewhere in the woods outside of the village. Silver's eyes widened in amazement "I… I hit it. Yes, I hit it!". He turned around looking proud of himself "Did anybody see that?". The ground suddenly shakes and he turned to see a Quake hovering over the now destroyed cannon "Except you".
On the ground Shadow secured the frenzy wisps when he saw Silver on a path above him running form the Quake "Do not let them escape". He runs up after them. Silver continues running through the village as the quake bashes through objects to get to him. It's about to crush him but it is shot by a laser pushing it back. Shadow then gets it and Silver, he charges forward and punches the wisp forcing it to retreat "Oh, and there's one more thing you need to know". Shadow turns to Silver with an angry look on her face as the building Silver led the Quake through collapses. Silver cringes "Sorry, Dad". More villagers surround them as multiple wisps get away carrying more animals. Silver anxiously looks around "Okay, but I hit a Laser". Shadow grabs him by the quills and lead him away. Silver sighs "No. It's not like the last few times, Dad! I mean, I really, actually hit it! You guys were busy. I had a clear shot. It went down off Raven Point. Let's get a search party out there-". Shadow stops and turns to him looking exasperated "Stop! Just Stop. Every time you step outside, disaster follows. Can you not see that we have bigger problems? Winter is almost here, and I have an entire village to feed!". Silver's eyes shifted "Between you and me, the village could do with a little less feeding" "This isn't a joke, Silver!". He groaned "Why can't you follow the simplest orders?" "I-I can't stop myself. I see a Wisp and I have to just kill it. You know. It's who I am, Dad". Shadow sighed and put a hand over his forehead "Oh, you're many things, Silver. But a Wisp killer is not one of them. Get back to the house". Shadow looks to Omega "Make sure he gets there. I have his mess to clean up". Omega steps forward and hits Silver over the top of the head before leading him away. Silver with his head lowered walks past Wave and Jet who laugh at him. Rotor said nothing but Shard grinned "I've never seen anyone mess up that badly. That helped" "Thank you, thank you. I was trying". Blaze was sitting on a step, she looked annoyed but then sympathetic at Silver after Shard's mockery. Omega pushes Shard out of the way and they keep walking.
