When Annabeth woke, her headache was miserable. She groaned softly and rubbed her forehead. Then, she realized exactly what her position was. Annabeth was laying in a bed in a room that was not her own. And, she was completely naked.
Annabeth's eyes slowly moved around the room. There were no decorations on the wall, but there were clothes on the chair in the corner of the room and also on top of the dresser. It was the typical messy room of a teenage boy. Of one Percy Jackson.
Annabeth stared at the ceiling and felt a pit in her gut. She was laying in Percy's bed. Naked. Annabeth was naked and laying in the bed of Percy Jackson. They had sex last night. Annabeth spoke, "Fuck."
The truth was that Annabeth did have a small crush on Percy. That didn't mean she wanted to have sex with him. Not while drunk at least. She wanted to be sober for that special kind of moment. Annabeth quickly sat up and swung her legs off of the bed.
Annabeth stood, ready to run out of there. As she placed her foot down, her right foot hit an obstacle before that and she almost fell. A groan was heard below her, and Annabeth's eyes shot down. She then almost yelled as she saw Percy lying on the floor.
Her hands moved to grab the blanket, and she snatched it off of the bed. Annabeth wrapped it around herself and stared down at Percy. He opened his eyes and looked at her confused.
"What are you doing?" Annabeth demanded as she tightened the blanket around herself.
"Laying down," Percy answered. It sounded like he was still waking up.
"Why?" Annabeth questioned. She swallowed painfully. Percy slowly sat up and studied her. He was fully clothed. Why would he be fully clothed if they slept together? "What happened last night?"
"Sit down and stop freaking out?" Percy suggested. Annabeth glared but sat down. Percy grinned and sat up. "Did you think we had sex?"
"No," Annabeth denied. Percy grinned. "Okay. Fine. I did at first."
"We didn't," Percy promised. "I picked you guys up from the bar, and most of you were drunk. Did you know that Leo sings opera when he drinks too much? I didn't know that until last night. And you were reciting some kind of poem in Latin. I thought you were summoning a demon. And Piper was singing some kind of pop song. Jason joined in, and I almost abandoned the car. If Reyna hadn't made you guys shut up."
"How did I end up naked?" Annabeth questioned. She did not remember anything from the night before.
"We got to Piper's place, and I helped everyone settle down. Right as I was about to fall asleep in here, you knocked on the door. You complained that it was too hot, and I offered to put the air on. You said that wasn't quick enough and decided to take off all of your clothes to cool down," Percy explained.
"Oh no," Annabeth said as she buried her face in her hands.
"I was going to leave, but you grabbed my arm and begged me to stay in here and keep an eye on you. Apparently, you were really concerned that you were going to puke in your sleep and then die. Which I can get. Especially since you never get drunk.
"Did you know that you're a mean drunk?" Percy asked. Annabeth felt her face turning red. "You didn't ask nicely, but I stayed just for you."
"I'm really sorry, Percy. I don't remember anything about last night," Annabeth swore. She swallowed painfully. "I really am."
Percy laughed, and Annabeth slowly looked up at him. Percy grinned, "It's all good. I was happy to be your puke patrol."
"That's a terrible name," Annabeth breathed out. Percy's grin widened. "That was a name I came up with, wasn't it?"
"It was," Percy confirmed. He covered his eyes. "I did put your clothes in the wash for you. They're mostly dry and on the chair."
"Thank you," Annabeth said. She quickly dropped the blanket and changed into her clothes.
"Can I look now?" Percy questioned as Annabeth was pulling on her pants.
"Not unless you want to see my chest."
"Hmm. Do you have your bra on yet?"
"Shut up," Annabeth ordered. She glared as she saw Percy's grin from behind his hand. Annabeth finished putting back on her clothes. "You can look now."
Percy lowered his hand and stood. That smile was still on his face, but it didn't look carefree or relaxed like normal. It looked like he was weighed down. Annabeth frowned and studied him.
"What's wrong?" Annabeth questioned.
"I'll tell you over breakfast. My mom made a lot for everyone," Percy replied, and he led Annabeth out of the room. Annabeth followed right behind him. She knew the layout of Piper's place like the back of her hand as she spent usually a few days a month here.
"Is it because you're still here?" Annabeth asked, motioning around the house.
"I just hate being a burden," Percy muttered. Annabeth stopped and turned towards him.
"Percy, the last thing you are is a burden. Seriously. Everyone here is just worried about you and wants you and your family to be safe. And trust me, you guys are saving Piper's sanity and mine. With you guys here, I don't have to worry about her bothering me all the time. She needs more people in this house than just maids."
"But I hate that we are living in Piper's house and eating her food. I know she doesn't care, but still," Percy began. He looked down. "Piper has offered to help us find a new place."
"Why would you need a new place if Ma Gasket is behind bars?" Annabeth questioned. Percy stopped walking and looked at her with a scowl. "Shit. Don't tell me they fucking let her go again. What the fuck?"
"Watch the f bombs around Estelle, please," Percy requested as they made it down the stairs. Annabeth looked around and saw that Estelle was sitting on the leg of Piper's couch. Well, one of the couches. She was staring down at whoever was laying on the couch.
"Estelle, not on the couch leg," Percy pleaded. Estelle looked at him and then finally got up. Annabeth studied the three people that were huddled on the couch. Piper and Leo were both clinging to Jason, who was out like a light.
Percy looked back at Annabeth and spoke softly, "Thalia told me last night. The police captain just let them go. He gave the stupidest reason possible."
"Which was?" Annabeth prompted. Percy waited for Estelle to clamber into the kitchen, and they heard Sally talking to her.
"That he did not have sufficient evidence to charge them. Apparently, neither Ma Gasket nor Lycaon are going to press charges on the other, and since the fight happened at Ma Gasket's bar, there is no pissed off owner to press charges," Percy explained.
"Those two hate each other. Why would they not press charges?" Annabeth asked before she thought of the answer. "It's mutually assured destruction. If one presses charges, the other will do the same, and they will both be stuck behind bars. Can't the city or police press charges on them for being a danger to those around them?"
"If the city wanted to enact one of their older rules," Paul chimed in as he left the kitchen holding onto his briefcase. He gently squeezed Percy's shoulder. "But, that is the call of the police captain of the district."
Annabeth bit her tongue and nodded angrily, "Have fun at class, Paul."
"I will."
"See ya, Paul," Percy said. He watched Paul walk away before focusing back on Annabeth. "So yeah. Ma Gasket is back out on the streets and probably stalking our house again. Piper's father found a nice house, but it's twice the price of where we live at now. And, it has this pool in it that is specifically for mermen. It's self sustaining too. That stuff costs thousands of dollars."
"It is a lot," Annabeth agreed. "But, Piper and her father just want to help you guys out. It really is a drop in the hat for them, and maybe, you guys can tell them that they can have the money from when your house gets sold."
"Maybe," Percy said after a few moments. "My mom has been talking it over with Paul. I just hate that we even have to do this. Why can't Ma Gasket just leave us alone."
"I can't believe she got released," Annabeth agreed with a shake of her head. They made it into the kitchen and saw two people standing by the stove. Sally was giving Reyna lessons on how to cook eggs it seemed.
"Morning," Sally greeted. Reyna turned towards her.
"Hey," Reyna greeted. She was wearing the same clothes as yesterday but looked rather relaxed.
"Good morning," Annabeth said. Percy gave her medicine and water. Annabeth quickly took it and felt her headache subsiding but also somehow growing. Probably because of Ma Gasket and Lycaon being let out of jail. It was so stupid. She had to talk to Thalia about this.
"Sorry if the food is bad. I've been trying to help Sally," Reyna began.
"You're doing good," Sally said with a smile. She looked at Annabeth. "How are you feeling dear?"
"Better," Annabeth answered. She glanced at Percy. "Was I the only one that was drunk?"
"Everyone was drunk other than Reyna," Percy answered. "She helped me carry the others to the car and in here."
"Not with your injured ribs," Annabeth chided.
"He's got noodle arms," Reyna retorted as she pointed at Percy. "And I already took medicine."
Reyna looked back at the stove and put eggs onto a plate. She carried them towards the dining room table, and Sally shadowed her with plates of her own. Annabeth followed behind and saw that a whole breakfast buffet had been made.
"Thanks," Annabeth said as she looked at Reyna and studied the werewolf. The woman glanced at her and nodded. Annabeth debated telling her about Ma Gasket and Lycaon being released, but she decided to wait for just a little bit longer. For now, they would try to wake up the sleeping beauties and enjoy their breakfast.
Something told her things were going to get bumpy.
