'Of course we gotta fight it' Ladybug scoffed. 'It's a sentimonster that can easily incapacitate people, remember? And stops at nothing.'
'So... Agreste Mansion it is' Chat Noir sighed. '...I have a hunch that Adrien left his window open.'
'A hunch? How?'
'Haha, uh...' Chat Noir was visibly sweating. 'I-it's such a nice day! Of course he would want to let some fresh air in!'
Ladybug obviously wasn't fully convinced, but she followed Chat's lead. Piano tunes were coming from Adrien's room, and a window was indeed open. Ladybug looked around.
'A recording? What happened to Adrien?' she frowned.
'Uh... went to fencing practice...?' Chat Noir tried to sound convincing.
'Fencing? Nonsense' Ladybug shook her head. 'He doesn't have fencing on Wednesdays. Right now he's supposed to practice piano' she looked over at the recording. 'And clearly someone tried to make it look like he does just that!'
Chat Noir gulped.
'Maybe he forgot to turn it off...? You can't possibly have his schedule memorized...'
'I can and I do. Don't doubt me, Chat.'
Uncomfortable silence fell between them. Chat frowned.
'Well then. Now I don't have any doubts... about your civilian identity.'
Ladybug paled and stepped away from him.
'No, no... no, no, no, no. You can't. You can't know my identity and certainly can't reveal it to Adrien!' she pushed him lightly away. Chat slumped over. Any good feelings lingering after the sentimonster "attack" were gone. He could almost feel his heart breaking, and he was sure Plagg felt it too. But he didn't want to tell her too much. Instead, maybe he could slap Carapace for the mistake he made before.
'If Adrien figures out who you are, it wouldn't be thanks to me, but Carapace. Were you aware that Carapace, as civilian, told Adrien both his and Rena Rouge's identities?'
The look on Ladybug's face was enough to tell that she wasn't.
'But... their identities were already compromised by the fiasco with Chloe...' she tried to convince either him... or herself.
'...so it would make sense to swap their Miraculous at least' Chat shrugged. 'Anyway... are we going to look for the amok?'
Just as he spoke, he heard a soft knock at the door. Moments later, one of patchwork creatures entered and headed right in their direction.
It was tempting to just give in to gentle touch, soft swaddling and treats. But then he would probably compromise his identity, and he couldn't look Ladybug in the eye after that, he wouldn't last the rest the week. So he pushed the monster away with his baton.
'The amok is probably somewhere close!' he announces. 'But it must be outside the room!'
But even before they managed to leave, the creature vanished.
Sorry for delay. Weekend had me move some furniture around. As always, reviews make my day, and so do favs and follows. Stay safe and call grandma - she will appreciate it.
