"We're here," Jason announced as he stopped his car outside Reyna's new apartment. His gaze moved to his passenger; Reyna had her head resting back against the headrest, and her eyes were closed. Soft, pained breaths left her every few seconds. "Reyna?"
After they left the hospital, they stopped to get food at a small restaurant. Just walking inside looked like it had sapped Reyna of most of her strength, but she wouldn't listen to any of Jason's protests. There wasn't much talk between them as they ate. Reyna looked like she was having to carefully chew to avoid tearing open her stitches.
Reyna took her medicine before they left the restaurant, and she passed out somewhere between there and her new apartment. Jason studied her and spoke again, "Reyna, we're here. Wake up."
Reyna didn't move an inch. In fact, she shifted slightly and almost looked annoyed that someone was talking to her while she slept. Jason gently touched her shoulder and still didn't get a response. He got out of his car and walked around to the passenger side.
Jason carefully opened the door. Then, he unbuckled her seat belt and carefully pulled it away from Reyna. An attempt at tapping her shoulder didn't work again. Jason spoke, "Hey, Reyna. We're here. Wake up."
Reyna still didn't stir. Jason looked around and then carefully slipped one of his arms under Reyna's legs. The other gently slid around her back as he picked her up. Reyna made a small noise of pain, but her head rested against Jason's chest.
Jason carefully used his foot to close the car door. He walked towards the apartment building and was grateful that the doors were automatic. Jason looked around the lobby. The floors were almost marble and shined to perfection. His shoes squeaked on the ground as he made his way toward the elevator.
It looked like there were steps to his right, but he also didn't want to walk the injured woman up the stairs and cause her any more pain. As he carefully pressed the button, the doors slowly opened. It was rather awkward as he came face to face with an elderly couple.
Jason tried to smile, but it felt rather weird. Mostly because of the fact that he was carrying an unconscious Reyna. Jason carefully sidestepped the couple and walked onto the elevator. He tapped the button for Reyna's floor. The werewolf shifted slightly, and a small groan of pain left her.
"We're almost there," Jason said softly as he looked down at her. When the doors opened, he turned and walked down the hall to Reyna's apartment. As he made it to the door, it opened. Jason stepped out of Piper's way as she held onto a box full of other discarded boxes.
"Is Reyna okay?" Piper questioned.
"I think," Jason replied. "She took her pain medicine and fell asleep."
"Clarisse already set up the bed," Piper informed. Jason nodded and stepped inside. His gaze shot around the apartment; it looked to be twice the size of Reyna's old place, but he remembered hearing it was about the same price. Along with the rent for the next few months being covered.
"I'm going to lay her down," Jason decided in a soft voice. He didn't want to wake Reyna up, especially with how much pain she was in.
"Down the hall to the left," Piper said softly as she pointed. Jason nodded and walked towards the room. Upon stepping inside, he saw Clarisse was moving the dresser all by herself. She placed it down and turned.
"What did you do?" Clarisse questioned in a harsh tone.
"I didn't do anything," Jason argued. "She fell asleep."
Clarisse grunted and grabbed her pocket knife. She started to cut the tape they used to keep the drawers closed. Then, she turned towards the bed and moved the blanket to the side. Jason laid Reyna down. A groan left her as she shifted.
Reyna instantly curled up on her side, and Clarisse gently laid the blanket over her. She spoke, "Where's Hylla?"
"I guess they're questioning her now," Jason answered. "Thalia said they were going to get all the information they can about Exterminata."
Clarisse grunted again and looked around, "We have everything pretty much put away, and there's another bed being delivered in a few hours. I'm going to stay here with Reyna. Want to be my company?"
"If you don't mind," Jason answered. He studied Reyna; she hadn't moved an inch since they put the blanket over her. Clarisse walked out of the room. After a moment, Jason followed. He glanced back at Reyna.
While he did want to talk to Reyna about his feelings, he couldn't do that with the state she was in. Just walking had wiped her out. Jason looked down. He would have to wait until she was feeling better.
The next hours passed by rather slowly. The new bed was delivered after an hour, and the two of them were able to set the bed up pretty easily. The cable guy came in after that, and that visit seemed like it would take forever. Clarisse made sure everything else was working and set up, which prompted Jason to stare at her.
"What do you want?" Clarisse grunted as she flipped through the channels.
"You really like Reyna," Jason commented.
"What gave it away?" Clarisse asked sarcastically. She sighed and looked at Jason. "Yeah. Reyna's a good kid. Unlike the rest of you."
Jason smiled and gave her a hapless shrug. Clarisse rolled her eyes. They both heard a gasp, followed by a choke of pain. Jason was on his feet and in the room in a flash. His eyes shot to the bed.
Reyna collapsed back on the bed, and both hands moved to her side. Her eyes shot around the room before focusing on Jason. Her body slowly relaxed as Jason walked towards her side.
"You okay?" Jason asked. Reyna nodded and laid her head back. There was a pale tone to her face, and her hands were shaking from what Jason presumed was a nightmare. It made his heart ache especially because he didn't know how to comfort Reyna without her getting upset.
"Is Hylla back?" Reyna slowly asked. Her breathing was heavy and labored. She swallowed painfully as she laid her head back. "Fuck."
"Not yet," Clarisse answered. "You've only been here for a few hours. I'll get you water."
"Did you carry me?" Reyna questioned as she looked at Jason, and he nodded. "Thank you."
"I hope you don't mind," Jason began. "You wouldn't wake up."
Reyna shrugged and curled up in her bed again. Her gaze focused on Jason, "Thank you, Jason. And you Clarisse. I...I don't remember the last time I was able to rely on anyone."
Tears leaked in Reyna's eyes, and she looked away. Clarisse spoke, "We're your friends, Reyna. So, what freaked you out so much?"
"Just had a nightmare about what happened," Reyna muttered. She wiped her eyes and sighed. "C...can you help me to the couch? I don't want to be alone."
"Come here," Clarisse said gently. She picked Reyna up with ease and carried her to the couch. While Reyna's face turned red from embarrassment, she didn't say anything. Clarisse sat her on the couch and sat near her. Jason sat on her opposite side.
"I'm surprised Jason was able to carry you inside with how weak he is," Clarisse commented. Reyna smirked.
"I am not weak," Jason argued.
"It was the half-werewolf part giving him the strength to carry me," Reyna teased. She leaned on Jason. "Thanks for everything."
"Anytime," Jason smirked as he gave her a gentle smile. Reyna slowly relaxed against him as Clarisse turned on the television. It didn't take long for Reyna to fall back asleep. Jason started to get up to get a blanket, but Clarisse shook her head.
Clarisse stood and left the room. She came back with the blanket and gently laid it over Reyna. Jason studied Reyna's sleeping face. Hopefully, she will be able to get some rest. She deserved it.
