Grey clouds rolled across the sky and snow descended upon the ground, blanketing every area that wasn't a snowy mountain already. Winter had come to Kong Island and, with that season, that was a time when people gathered to rejoice the special holiday known as Christmas.
All was peaceful on the island, it had been a few years since the last major crisis and peace had reigned for a long time, the animals weren't worried about danger and neither were the Kongs.
It was a chilly winter day, a soft cold wind was blowing across the island and ruffling the palm trees while bananas fell to the ground where they would be picked up by a certain big monkey. Donkey Kong ate the bananas that had fallen from the tree, making sure he didn't accidently eat any snow that had likely gotten onto the delicious yellow food when they all fell.
The tie-wearing gorilla finished munching on the bananas and threw away the peels, then he moved forward along the road with a fluffy red-white Santa hat upon his head.
DK wasn't alone, his young friends Diddy & Dixie Kong were tagging along and they too were wearing Santa-themed outfits. Both Kongs were on their way to Cranky Kong's house for a rare but special Christmas party, Cranky Kong wanted the whole family there and he cared so much.
Whenever Cranky gathered the family to rejoice a special day, it was his birthday or Kongsgiving, the Kong-themed variation of the Thanksgiving, a day when people ate turkey.
Both DK and his young partners were in very high spirits, happy as they could be without having to worry about hypnotizing tiki-entities, snow-themed Vikings and crazy crocodiles terrorizing the island. However, they knew Kong Island would not be safe all the time. There would still be threats to face, even if they never saw it coming on the days they hoped for peace.
Unbeknownst to either of the trio, the Kongs were being observed from a distance by a mysterious white figure and many others, figures who were planning to make their move.
Donkey Kong felt a chill crawl up his furry back and frowned, he stopped in his tracks and looked up at the mountains and the dormant volcano that had not been active in a long time. Both Diddy and Dixie stopped as well and looked at DK with uncertain faces, asking him what was going through his mind and what the matter was.
"It's nothin'." DK replied, "Thought someone was watchin' us."
Diddy walked up and pat DK on the hand. "It's just the winter." He remarked, "Just the cold."
"Yeah, just the cold messin' with us."
Smiling with a nod of agreement, the Kong trio breathed in the fresh air and continued their travel to Cranky's house as snow continued to fall. Their fur protected them from the cold, keeping DK and his crew nice and warm.
Flocks of birds flew over, landing in nests within the trees and providing their young with gathered food as gifts. As of today, there were only three days until the day of Christmas.
Not too far off, Cranky Kong was sitting back in his rocking chair at his house, holding his cane and looking out the open window. A tall Christmas tree sat nearby, decorated with vibrant lights and shiny ornaments. The house was decorated with special Christmas banners and a fake snowman stood outside the door, accompanied by a man in robes with a beard.
A mountain of thick snow surrounded the house and it was so high, the snow nearly covered the ladder that led up to it. However, it did somewhat save climbing space for now. And half-a-mile-away from Cranky's house, Donkey Kong, Diddy and Dixie had just reached a frozen lake. Slowly but surely, they treaded their way across the ice, making sure not to slip.
The ice was slippery, dangerous and very fragile since one wrong move could cause icy complications, leading to many an unfortunate soul meeting an ice-cold end in cold water.
Grey-colored penguins from Frost-Land wandered around the snowy cold area, skating around upon the icy lake while hanging out with playful grizzly bears and playing with one another. At a time such as Christmas, it was a sight to see Kong Island becoming a winter wonderland.
"Wheeeeeeee!" Diddy exclaimed as he made a little skating move and allowed himself to slide across the ice. DK and Dixie face-palmed, knowing that Diddy was making a fool of himself.
However, Diddy ignored the annoyed expressions on his friends' faces and continued ice-sliding until he jumped onto soft and snowy ground. The hat-wearing ape stood still and waited for DK and Dixie to catch up, Donkey Kong and Dixie caught up and gave Diddy a vacant expression upon their faces that told him there was a time when to act like a real doofus.
Once the apologies were out of the way, the trio resumed their journey. The Kongs passed by the groups of bears and penguins enjoying the frosty season, minding their own business and unconcerned in regards to what surprises the winter had in store for Kong Island.
Just then, the ground began to shake and patches of snow-covered bushes rustled. Donkey Kong and his crew stopped moving and looked around, wondering what was taking place. Earthquakes were rare, this one couldn't be an earthquake, it didn't feel like one.
KER-BOMPH! Snow flew everywhere and a large shadow fell over DK's crew, the Kongs looked up and found themselves facing a large snowman and a group of ice-covered tiki warriors.
The trio of Kongs examined the situation they were in, one assessment of everything and it was clear that the Cold Winter Savages had come to ruin Donkey Kong's special frosty day. The Savage Snowman glared at DK and his young friends with heartless eyes, holding a large stick and smacking it in its gloved hands.
Nearby, penguins and bears ceased their activities to see the Christmas battle that was about to unfold. All was tense, the Kongs and the Winter Savages were facing down each other.
And not too far off, Cranky Kong was watching the scene from his house via his binoculars.
"Of course Christmas would end up seeing him face a dangerous enemy." Cranky grunted, "I never thought savages would be attacking today." He turned to face you and shook his cane angrily at the fourth wall, "WHY DO YOU APES MAKE MY GRANDSON SUFFER SO MUCH?!"
While Cranky was ranting at the readers (and the writers) for making life miserable, the tensions between DK's group and the Winter Savages had reached its boiling point. Donkey Kong hooted his traditional war cry and beat his torso, he'd had enough and was ready to do battle. He charged the Savages and leaped into the air, rearing his fist back with determination.
Savage Snowman raised his Savage Snow Stick, prepared to meet Donkey Kong in Kong Kombat. However, DK made it to the Snowman and punched him square in the face.
Donkey Kong punched the Savage Snowman so hard, it toppled over in a snowy heap and crumbled into a pile of snow with nothing left of the big creature. The Savage Snow Stick that the Snowman had as a weapon vanished and, like that, the monster was curb-stomped.
However, the battle had just begun...
More Ice Tikis and more Savage Snowmen arrived on the scene, shrieking frosty war cries and shaking their weapons. Donkey Kong, Diddy and Dixie all prepared themselves for the coming fight. This was about to be a Kong Country Christmas like no other, it would be INSANE!
One Ice Tiki brought out a horn and blew into it, the sound of the horn going off was so loud, it caused scores of birds to fly away into the sky while penguins and bears scattered to safety.
And then, it was on. The Kongs and the Winter Savages charged towards one another as opposing teams, ready to battle each other to the snow graves. The ground rumbled and the air was filled with war cries and booming sounds, Diddy dodged a Snow Spear and Dixie jumped to avoid being hit by a Snow Arrow. Chaos reigned, even though it was an army against three.
Snow flew everywhere and Donkey Kong threw a Savage onto the frozen lake. The unfortunate savage tried to run, but DK punched the ice so hard, the Savage fell into the freezing cold water.
Diddy and Dixie dodged a pair of spears that were wielded by Savage Snowmen and then kicked them in the buttons, causing the snowmen to shriek in shock. Then Diddy grabbed one of the Snow Spears and stabbed a Snowman in the face, taking the Savage out of commission.
"LO WYN'TARO!" A Snow Tiki screamed and charged the Kongs, shaking his weapon like wild. DK jumped in and smacked the Tiki on the head before stomping him, taking the savage out.
Acting braver than ever, Diddy Kong drew a Kong Hammer and leaped up into the air towards a pack of Snow Savages. He brought down the hammer and smashed them all while knocking down one for Donkey Kong to crush, Dixie even slapped a Savage across the face.
The Kongs kept persevering, battling Savage after Savage, taking out Tikis and Snowmen left and right. Before long, the Kong trio fully had the upper hand and the battle was in their favor.
Working together, Donkey Kong, Diddy and Dixie overpowered the remaining Snow Savages and squashed them all while the handful that were left fell back and went into retreat. "HOO HOOOO HOO!" Donkey Kong jumped up and down with his fists in the air, commemorating his gang's victory over the Snow Savages, now the Kongs could have a peaceful Christmas again.
It took a while to take in their victory, but before long, Donkey Kong and his young pals continued along their jolly way to Cranky's house. The rest of the journey took nearly an hour, but the destination soon appeared from behind a pair of trees in the forest.
Donkey Kong, Diddy and Dixie hugged each other and smiled, sarcastically agreeing they didn't have to tell Cranky about what they went through. They walked towards the house and noticed the mountain of snow covering half of the ladder, nearly making the task of getting up there a lot easier. Donkey Kong went up first, followed by Diddy and then Dixie.
However, as soon as they'd made it up, the door opened and Cranky came out to greet them with a stern look upon his wizened old face.
"You're late, sonny," Cranky said in a scolding manner.
Just when DK was about to reply, Cranky walked up and poked him with his cane. "Do not take me for a fool." He snapped, "I saw you fighting those savages, savages who wanted to ruin our Kong Christmas." Then Cranky put down the cane. "But thankfully, you're here now."
To DK's surprise, Cranky hugged him, which was very rare for the cranky old gorilla to do. "Oh-oh-oh, me too." Diddy cried, "Don't leave me out of this and the family." He jumped in and hugged both DK and Cranky, Dixie joined in too.
Both Kongs embraced in a loving group hug, then they headed inside Cranky's house for their special Kong Country Christmas gathering.
DK, Cranky and the kid Kongs hung out happily and played games such as Kong Twister and Guess the Kong. They laughed and often chatted about their past adventures, reminiscing on days gone by, before deciding to help themselves to some yummy bananas. And so, the Kongs went on to have the best day of their lives and everyone lived a long happy Kong Island life...
The End
