,Meredith rolled over the next morning and the first thing she noticed was a small being climbing on top of her, she opened her eyes and saw Noah dressed up in his school uniform, she brushed the hair from his eyes and kissed his cheek, "you are ready for school already?"

"Ready already Mia helped me."

Meredith sat up to wrap her arms around Noah as Mia came into the bedroom carrying a tray piled with breakfast items, Meredith looked at toast, pancakes, porridge and eggs, "did you do all of this?"

"Noah helped me a lot" Mia reached out a hand and rubbed the little boy's head, "didn't you."

"I sure did" Noah answered looking immensely proud of himself.

Mia sat down on the bed to look at Meredith, "I wanted to thank you for you know, everything you did."

"You are very welcome" Meredith responded with a wide smile as she grabbed a slice of toast, "right mr Noah time to go to school."

Noah jumped into Mia's arms, "can't I stay home with Mia."

Mia chuckled as she rubbed his back, "i'll be here when you come home superman."

"Right now superman needs to go to school" Noah let out a little moan and Meredith raised an eyebrow, "that's the first time you have ever moaned about going to school."

Noah looked down, "sorry mommy."

"Mia will be waiting for you go and get your school bag."

Mia put Noah on his feet and watched him dash off to his room before she stood up and clapped her hands together, "right doctor Grey where's the rake?"

"The rake?" Meredith replied feeling a bit confused.

"So I can do the yard work."

Meredith grinned, "are you trying to put Cristina out of a job?"

"No no" Mia said quickly, "Cristina's cool I just want to help out."

"Well i'm glad to hear that because downstairs you'll find a big sheet of paper on the fridge which says Mia's rules you can read that while I take Noah to school."

"Ah" Mia said uneasily, "Mia's rules?"

"Noah has rules to that he must follow at all times."

"Dude" Mia muttered, "is this the army?"

"No honey but as the old saying goes my house my rules."

Mia took a deep breath and nodded with a half hearted smile, "no worries i'll follow every rule on the list."

"Don't make that promise" Meredith said as she got out of bed and grabbing her brush started to brush out her hair, "until you read all the rules."

Mia just shrugged, "how bad can they be." Meredith walked over and ran a hand gently through Mia's hair as Mia shrugged and smiled showing slight embarrassment and Meredith smiled back before she walked to her bathroom for a shower.

After the school run Meredith came home and chuckled quietly as she heard the sound of groans from the kitchen she walked through the house and saw Mia sitting at the table looking at a large sheet of paper with her head in her hands and after hearing another groan Meredith made a soft knocking on the wooden entrance, Mia quickly looked up and sat up straight, "so you finished reading the rules yet?"

"Um" Mia made a quick glance at the paper before nodding, "yeah I did."

"And your okay with the rules?"

"Of course" Mia replied.

"Really because I just heard a loud groan from where i'm standing."

"No I was just you know going" Mia made an odd noise, "that the noise I make when I signal my approval of the... 50 plus rules."

"Mia" Meredith said slowly with a raised eyebrow.

"Its good" Mia said with an unconvincing its good expression on her features, "its all good doctor g."

"Okay" Meredith said as she turned around and walked out into the living room looking at her watch before she heard a loud moan and a loud, "these rules suck."

Meredith smirked that took ten seconds as she walked back into the kitchen, "now your being honest with me."

"They're ridiculous" Mia collapsed on the chair and picked up the paper, "look at this, no going out after nine without special permission from you, no swearing, no watching television above pg 13."

"Mia" Meredith said in a calm voice, "Noah is five years old he doesn't need to see violence or swearing."

"Well he's going to see it eventually."

"Well not for at least a few more years he's a sweet little boy and I want him to grow into a sweet adult."

"Fair enough" Mia made a loud breathing noise, "well what about no fucking colour in my hair, cover up my tattoos, keep the piercing out of my nose for school and court and no shirts short enough to expose my bellybutton."

"First of all no swearing, second of all I took the liberty of washing some of your clothes the last time you were staying here and I will say some of those clothes I find very inappropriate for school let alone a courtroom."

Mia made another loud noise, "its called fashion Meredith and why do I have to get the purple and red extensions out of my hair, i'm going to be called a toehead at school?"

"Because" Meredith said in her firm calm parental voice, "your blonde hair is more beautiful without the extensions and I don't think you'll be called a toehead in this day and age. The other reason is when you go to court in three weeks you want to look like a civilised well behaved non offending member of society and that means looking suitable for court. From watching law enforcement shows i'm pretty sure judges prefer people before the court having no colour in their hair or piercings."

Mia made another groan, "and what is this no torturing people with household appliances."

"That's a big one Mia, I don't want any more mornings of waking up to brushes on my feet, or toothbrushes in my bellybutton or feathers in my armpits."

Mia started to grin, "hmmm feathers in armpits that's one I haven't tried yet."

"Mia" Meredith said firmly.

"Okay okay, and what no parties in the house?"

"That's another big one, I don't want Noah exposed to it and I don't want my house getting thrashed by a group of wild kids."

Mia made a face, "no going round to boy's houses without appropriate adult supervision what the fuck."

"Again no swearing and this is a serious thing Mia."

"I'm fifteen and your telling me I can't hang out at a boy's house without a old fart watching me."

"Mia" Meredith pulled up a chair and sat down next to her young charge, "have you ever had the...birds and the bees talk?"

Mia put her face in her hands, "oh my god...please don't talk to me about sex."

"If you haven't had the talk with someone" Meredith replied, "then someone needs to and if your going to be here for a while it might as well be me that has the talk with you."

"I don't need you telling me where babies come from, i'm not going to have sex while i'm here."

Meredith ran a hand gently up and down Mia's forearm, "Mia have you ever had sex before?"

"No" Mia said irritably, "i've never done it, believe it or not boys and sick perverts have asked me for it but I wanted to wait till I was a bit older before doing it, like when i'm sixteen i'll do it."

"That's" Meredith started then she stopped to think, "you know I think sixteen is still to young to have sex wait until your at least eighteen take it from a voice of experience your first time should be special and it should be with someone who you really care about and believe me at your age nobody really knows what they're doing."

Mia gave Meredith a look, "well isn't that how everyone is at first and then the more they do it the more experience they get and the better the sex is."

"No its, Mia I just want you to be careful, I keep having this image of coming home one night to find you holding a positive pregnancy test in your hand."

"Being a teen mom wouldn't be that bad Meredith."

Meredith put an arm around Mia's shoulders, "well you wouldn't know if it was bad or good unless you became one yourself and let me tell you from my experience being a mother is a lot of hard work and if you do become pregnant I am not going to be raising your child for you."

"I'm only here for three weeks dude so don't worry if I get pregnant someone else can raise my kid."

Meredith narrowed her eyes, "Mia are you going to take anything I say seriously."

"I always do" Mia said before she grinned as Meredith snorted, "cheek, well we have a lot of work to do in three weeks the first thing on today is your drug and alcohol counselling at noon."

Mia groaned and Meredith made a mental note expect a lot of groaning over the next three weeks, "do I have to do that?"

"Yes" Meredith said simply.

"But I don't use drugs anymore."

"Sweetheart its for your own good, drugs and alcohol mess with your mind and you end up doing things you may regret this could happen to you later on when your going to parties, your at that age. Even if you don't take drugs you could still learn some things which could help your friends if they take this stuff, and when your at your group talk today you can talk with the other people there about your own experiences it might inspire them because remember they're there because they want to get better."

"They're there because someone is forcing them to go to these things."

"Mia it will be fine, your not going there to be tortured."

"Well what am I going to say at a drug course if I don't use drugs, hi i'm Mia and i'm here because crazy nice lady told me to come here."

Meredith frowned, "young lady I do not want you to call me crazy nice lady."

"Well" Mia smirked, "your abnormally nice hence the term crazy nice-"

"Mia if you don't follow these rules and do the courses your social worker suggested to increase the chances of keeping you out of jail then you can leave this house and go to another foster home. I am not doing all of this just so you can reoffend while you are living with me."

Mia made a short whistle, "chill out doctor g this will be a breeze."

"Mia" Meredith sighed, "please take this seriously."

"Okay okay" Mia muttered as she put on a serious expression, "here this is me taking it seriously."

"If I so much as get a sniff that you are doing the wrong thing or are breaking these rules I will come down on you like a ton of bricks."

Meredith got up and walked to make herself a cup of tea as Mia leaned back in her chair, "just because i'm curious what actually happens if someone breaks the big book of rules cause i've never seen Noah get in trouble, do you like do the whole spanking thing with the kid across the knee." Meredith coughed uncomfortably, "I do not spank kids Mia."

Mia grinned, "well what is it do you have a naughty stool, make them write a hundred times I must wash my hands before dinner or do you lock them outside in the yard."

Meredith turned around and crossed her arms as she smiled a wicked smile, "well let me put it to you this way I have come up with a special way of handing out punishments just for you. I bought me, you and Noah dress up costumes while I was out this morning and if you break the rules than will you have to deal with judge grey and district attorney noah in a make believe court room in our living room."

Mia made a face, "how does that work?"

"Well we play dress up you can dress up like a prisoner and me and Noah will dress up like a judge and a district attorney then we read out the rules you have broken and decide the punishment, i've got your costume right here" Meredith pulled out a long one piece orange uniform with a number on the front, and grinned widely as Mia rolled her eyes, "that's not funny."

"Well" Meredith put the costume back in the bag, "if you prefer we can skip the whole court thing and you can just be grounded."

Mia got up rolled her eyes again and walked off, "and after you finish with the drug and alcohol stuff today we're going to go shopping."

Mia let out a loud woohoo, "finally a good thing."

"We're shopping for appropriate clothes." Mia moaned loudly from the top of the stairs, "I should have known."

"Would you like some eggs?"

"Yeah fine."

"Manners Mia."

"Yes please ms Grey" Mia said in a funny voice.

"And without the cheek" Meredith called back.

Mia poked her face out from the top of the stairs, "um doc."

"Yes?"

"Could I still do the yardwork."

"Okay" Meredith cracked a few eggs, "but I don't want you working like a slave while you are out there, you need to save your energy for the rest of the day."

Later on that afternoon Meredith feeling her patience rapidly running thin was trying to convince Mia to try on clothes that Mia was constantly turning her face up at while Mia was trying to get Meredith to buy her clothes that made Meredith feel uneasy just looking at them, Mia picked up a short black shirt, "why can't I get this?"

"Mia what did I say about not getting clothes that expose your bellybutton."

"Well this looks good" Mia held up the shirt, "its like a cheerleaders outfit, I mean cheerleaders expose their tummies all the time and people like it so why can't I get it?"

"Because your going to appear in court not in a audition for bring it on the musical."

"Fine" Mia muttered as she picked up very tight jeans and Meredith raised her eyebrows, "those jeans are inappropriate."

"Fine" Mia muttered again, "i'll just buy it with my own money."

"That reminds me" Meredith said causally, "you still owe me a lot of money for wrecking my car."

"Oh fuck" Meredith frowned as Mia stuttered, "shit sorry um okay guess your right."

Meredith sighed as she picked up a shirt and a tie, "what about this?"

Mia made a face, "do I look like i'm going to Hogwarts."

"Okay" Meredith picked out another shirt, "this?"

"I'll look ridiculous in that."

"Then this?"

"A bow i'm not looking to attract paedophiles."

"Okay then" Meredith said feeling the last of her willpower for the day leaving her, "pick something and if its good then i'll approve."

"Okay" Mia put her finger on her chin as she looked around and picked out a blue blazer and Meredith felt her shoulders relax, "that looks very nice."

"Thanks" Mia raised an eyebrow, "why do you look so relieved?"

"I just thought we would never find something we agree on, this reminds me of the time I took Ally clothes shopping."

"Yeah, what happened?"

"I couldn't convince Ally to let me buy her clothes unless I went on five dates with Derek."

Mia grinned, "well I won't let you buy me clothes unless-"

"Mia" Meredith chuckled, "no me and Derek are getting married in order for me to buy you some clothes."

"I was going to say" Meredith said with a chuckle, "I won't let you buy me clothes unless you let me buy something for Noah to."

"Mia" Meredith put the blazer in a bag, "if you think i'm going to let my five year old son wear a leather jacket" Mia pulled out a outfit and Meredith blinked as she looked at it, "a superman costume?"

"For Halloween" Mia said looking chipper, "he'll look so cool in it I can pay for it."

Meredith nodded as he imagined Noah's happy face walking down the streets wearing the costume, "I think Noah would really like it."

"Cool... ah how much was the cost of the car."

Meredith put her hand on Mia's shoulder, "my insurance is going to cover it."

Mia's eyes sparkled, "does this mean-"

Meredith's hand patted the shoulder, "you still owe me for the money you stole from me so no bad to the bone outfits."

"Okay" Mia sighed, "I guess I could wait three more weeks to get some new stuff."

A day later Meredith was putting away washing and calling out to Noah and Mia to get ready at school, Noah came running in, "ready mommy."

"You are ready" Meredith gave her little boy a hug, "Mia hurry up we'll be late."

Mia came in wearing a small tight shirt exposing miles of cleavage and very tight jeans showing off her ankles and underwear and Meredith letting out a gasp immediately covered Noah's eyes with her hands as Mia made a face and threw out her hands, "what?"

"No way on god's green earth are you going to school dressed like that."

"Its stylish."

"Its extremely inappropriate your showing far to much boob and underwear and Noah is not going to see this."

"Oh relax its not going to scar Noah for life."

"Mommy" Noah said with his eyes still covered, "is Mia dressed scary."

"Yes honey very scary, Mia go and put on those jeans and shirt I bought you."

Mia tutted, "but doc."

"Now young lady."

Mia groaned and stormed off to her room, "I liked it better when I was your babysitter you were fun back then."

"Mommy" Noah waved his hands around, "I can't see."

"Sorry honey" Meredith said as she released her hands from Noah's face, "I just don't want you to see Mia when she's wearing a scary costume."

"Was she dressed like a monster."

"Yes the teenage nightmare for parents monster."

Meredith pulled up outside the front entrance to a public high school and turned to Mia beside her who looked like she was being sent to the gallows, "are you okay honey you've been very quiet?"

Mia turned her head, "could you please park round the side of the school."

"Why" Meredith pointed at the doors where students were going in, "the entrance is right there."

Mia slumped down in her seat out of view, "I know your new to this whole looking after teens thing doc but grownups don't park round the front of the school and walk the kid inside."

Meredith nodded, "okay we'll drive round the side" Meredith drove round to the side of the building and Mia immediately jumped out, "thanks see ya." Meredith watched her run into the school and then looking at the back seat grumbled before she parked her car and hurried on in after Mia, "Mia."

Mia froze in her tracks in the school hallway and turned around slowly as Meredith caught up panting, "you forgot your bag."

"Okay thanks" Mia quickly grabbed the bag out of her hands and started to turn around before Meredith stopped her, "honey are you okay?"

"Yeah i'm fine" Mia whispered.

"You look pale."

"I said i'm fine" Mia said through gritted teeth.

"Well if you get sick get the school to call me."

"Yes okay please-"

"And remember to follow the rules, listen to the teachers and you've been out of school for a while so don't be afraid to raise your hand and ask for help."

Mia looked around at staring giggling students around her and said in barely more than a whisper, "okay I will."

"Okay" Meredith furrowed her brow, "why is your face red?" then Meredith saw the laughing kids around her and Mia said, "why do you think its red, please... just go."

"Oh okay" Meredith said as Mia turned around and hurried off and feeling very guilty went back to her car to drive to work. A few hours later she was sitting at her desk at work drinking a coffee and working on paperwork for clients she had recently treated when she heard her phone vibrating in her pocket, "hello."

"Doctor Grey."

"Yes this is doctor Grey."

"My name is principal Webb I know your busy but we need you to come down to the school and pick up Mia to take her home as soon as possible she's been involved in a fight."

Meredith's heart skipped a beat, "is she okay?"

"She is fine but some of our students aren't as lucky."

Meredith's spirits sank deep in her chest as Arizona came walking into her office, "i'll be right there."

"Hey" Arizona greeted Meredith with a smile, "me and Callie are about to grab lunch, want to join us?"

"I'm sorry Arizona I have to leave."

"What is it" Arizona watched Meredith hurriedly putting on her coat.

"My new foster child, its her first day at school and she's already gotten into a fight the school needs me to come pick her up, can you let the chief know where i've gone and that I apologise and will make it up tonight."

"Sure, don't worry we can handle things here."

"Thanks I hope Mia hasn't knocked anyone out."

Half an hour later Meredith was hurrying through the school halls ignoring the whistles from a large group of male students and hearing as she got closer to the principal's office Mia's loud voice, "well that bitch was thrash and all I did was take out the trash...she was picking on my friend, why am I in trouble."

Meredith opened the door and principal Webb a middle aged woman with a serious face looked up from her desk, "ah doctor Grey I presume."

Meredith looked at Mia grinning at her from her seat, "Mia."

"Hey before you get her side of the story just know i'm the hero here doc I was standing up for my new friends."

"Yes" the principal said, "Mia's new friends told me that bullies were trying to thrash their books and throw them into the large rubbish bin we have at the back of the school. The problem is then Mia decided to lift one of these bullies up from behind and throw her in the bin, and then when the boys intervened she kneed them in the chest and wrestled them to the ground giving them a few bruises in the process."

"You should have seen her doc" Mia leaned back in her chair with a winning smile on her face, "after I threw her in the bin she looked like a swamp creature, and those boys were weak as piss I whooped them in seconds."

"Mia" Meredith felt her blood boiling, "this is exactly what I was afraid of do you know how much trouble you got yourself in."

Mia frowned, "I just wanted to do the right thing."

"The right thing is to get help when you see trouble."

"If I had done that Toby, Ella, Grace and Liam would have been stuck in the bin and those punks would have gotten away with it."

Meredith turned to the principal with pleading eyes, "please I know this is only her first day but can you give her another chance."

"I can't excuse this behaviour doctor Grey, Mia your suspended for the rest of the school week and if you ever do anything like this again you will face expulsion from the school, we'll give you some schoolwork to complete during your suspension am I making myself clear."

"Sure" Mia muttered with a shrug.

Meredith drove home in silence with Mia and after opening the front door walked through her house and pointed to a chair, "right miss Mia sit down."

Mia complied, "aren't you proud of me?"

"If you had done the right thing I would have been proud of you, instead i'm very angry with you."

"Well" Mia said in a defensive voice, "you didn't exactly help me make friends this morning by embrassing me in front of the whole school."

"So you decided to play executioner and give two students bloody noses and throw a girl into a pile of eggshells."

"They got me to" Mia rolled up her sleeves, "look I got bruises."

"If you really didn't want to go to the teacher for help then why didn't you just say to the bullies leave them alone."

Mia got up from her chair and poured a glass of orange juice, "that never works dude."

"Well" Meredith came over to Mia, "if push came to shove and it led to violence couldn't you have defended yourself until a teacher comes."

"Best defence is a good offence."

"Mia" Meredith turned Mia around with her hands firmly on the girl's shoulders and her eyes locked into Mia's, "please please listen to me you can't do this again you may have already crossed the line as it is, if this gets out the judge could see this and-"

"Okay" Mia said quietly, "i'm sorry."

"Sorry is not good enough, effective immediately you are grounded for the rest of the week."

"What no trial?"

"You want to actually dress up in the prisoner costume and do the trial?"

"No god no, but shouldn't I you know get a defence, or a lawyer or something?"

"As you said best defence is a good offence" Meredith raised a brow and crossed her arms, "and this is my offence your grounded for a week with no tv."

Mia let out a loud tuh, "that's such bullshit."

"And no swearing or you'll be grounded for an extra week."

"Whatever" Mia yelled as she stormed off to her room and slammed the door as Cristina came walking in, "hey how's world war 3 going?"

Meredith sighed with exhaustion as she sat down in a chair, "its only the second day and i'm already wiped."

"Yeah didn't Mia say back at the hospital that she was going to follow all directions and do anything you ask her to do."

"I think kids in her position just say that to make softies like me feel bad for them."

"Well you'll get used to the whole experience and its good practice for later on down the track when Noah reaches his teens."

"Yeah" Meredith stretched her aching muscles, "and if I can actually succeed in my impossible mission to turn Mia into a civilised young lady and keep her out of the big house then it will be worth it."

"That's if Mia doesn't drive you mad first."

"Yeah your right" Meredith looked at her watch, "Cristina I need to get back to work if Mia does anything bad like sneaks out of the house or sets it on fire can you call me immediately."

"Don't worry love" Cristina said as she put on the kettle, "Mia Noah and I will be just fine."

After a late night Meredith finally collapsed into bed and after she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep loud laughing woke her up a hour later. She closed her eyes and tried her best to ignore it but groaned when her bedroom door opened and Noah came flying onto her bed, "Noah its to early."

"Mommy help me."

"Help you" Meredith said groggily as Noah buried himself under the covers, "Mia wants to eat me for breakfast."

"What" Meredith mumbled as she rolled onto her stomach.

"I smell a little boy" a voice sounded from the hallway.

Noah huddled close to Meredith giggling under the covers as Mia came into the room sniffing her noistrials, "I smell a little boy under here."

"Mia" Meredith groaned as Mia lifted up the quilt and buried herself underneath as Noah laughed and squealed, "ah I see little toes and a yummy little boy's belly."

Meredith groaned again as she heard the sound of raspberries, squeals and snuffling noises before Noah climbed over Meredith and Mia quickly lifted him to the other side of the bed blowing more raspberries on his belly as Meredith let out a oomph as Mia's feet rested on her spine, "will you two let me get some sleep."

"Its daytime doc."

"I don't care, get out both of you or your both grounded."

"I'm already grounded."

"You'll be grounded an extra week."

"Oh relax."

Meredith lifted her head and blinked as Mia sat on her back, "what are you doing?"

"Giving you a massage to help you relax" Meredith felt Mia's hands running up and down her shoulders as she sighed with gratitude, "that does feel nice."

"That's good" Mia said as she continued before she smirked, "hey I know you like massages but do you like being tickled."

"What no no Mia ahhhh" as Mia's fingers reached Meredith's bare armpits, "Mia Mia stop."

"Just relax" Mia giggled, "your so grumpy these days, look Noah your mommy is much happier now."

Noah laughed as Meredith squealed and cackled before taking a deep breath when Mia allowed a reprieve, "Mia you said a massage."

"Well this is like a massage."

"No its not, Mia?"

"Wait for it" Mia whispered in Meredith's ear.

"What" Meredith squealed as Mia blew a loud raspberry on the side of her neck, "Mia are you a vampire?"

"Yep" Mia said in a deep voice, "and i've come to suck doc's blood."

"Mia your meant to be studying, you know doing the work the school sent home for you to study."

"Yeah its interesting i've been studying the history of torture and in ancient times to torture women the torturers would mosy on down here" Mia shifted her weight to the back of Meredith's knees, "and tickle the feet."

"Ahhhh" Meredith cried out as sharp nails reached her soles, "no no stop Mia."

"Oh wow" Mia grinned, "look at your feet go, your toes are like squirmy wormies look at that wooo."

"Mia" Meredith pushed her upper body up on the bed and started to shift her weight and roll until Mia lost her balance falling back on the bed as Meredith quickly stood up and leaned over Mia, "okay okay wait don't tickle me hold on mercy mercy, have mercy."

Meredith smiled, "I wonder if the ancient cultures tortured teens the exact same way?"

"No no" Mia stumbled back raising her hands, "they didn't torture them, they let them go they were merciful... come on please."

"Okay Mia" Meredith said as she smiled, "i'll be merciful this time but next time you come in here for a tickling session not only will we explore how the ancient cultures tortured teenagers but I will also hug and kiss you goodbye in front of the whole school when I next take you there what do you think of that?"

Mia made a face, "thinking about it gives me icy chills."

"Well then I think you've learnt your lesson, now since you've gotten the hang of throwing students into the bin you can try throwing all the rubbish around the house into the bin."

"I'm on it" Mia said as she ran out of the bedroom and ran downstairs while Meredith rubbed Noah's head, "Noah get ready for school I need to get some sleep."

Mia jumped down the stairs and heard the doorbell, "that's Cristina" Meredith called out. Mia opened the door and found Derek and Ally standing in the doorway, Mia bent down to give Ally a hug, "hey bumblebee."

Ally wrapped her arms around Mia's neck, "we came to get you."

"Get me?"

Derek nodded, "we wanted to see if you wanted to come with us to drop Ally off at school."

"I can't i'm grounded."

"Well" Derek looked at the top of the stairs before winking, "we wouldn't tell Meredith."

"Really" Mia said with a mischievous look before her face softened, "well what about Noah he's going to be alone with sleeping grumpy?"

"Cristina is going to take him to school when she gets here, we'll get an early start come on lets go before yeah sleeping grumpy finds out."

Mia smiled widely, "i'll just change out of my pjs."

Derek pulled up to Ally's school and after lifting Ally out of her car seat gave her a hug goodbye before Ally ran into Mia's arms, "see ya bumblebee."

"In a while crocodile" Ally replied.

Mia and Derek watched Ally walk into the school as Derek looked sideways, "you have been calling her bumblebee ever since she was a baby haven't you."

"Yeah" Mia replied before she looked at Derek with shock, "you didn't tell her did you, that i'm her sister."

"No no, I think its best if you do it."

"Do you think she'll be okay, what if she freaks out?"

"She'll love it" Derek said with a smile, "Ally always wanted a big sister she wrote it last year on her Christmas list.

Mia crossed her forehead in thought before she started to run into the school, "i'll be right back." Mia ran through the hallways until she saw Ally walking into her classroom, "hey Ally Ally wait."

Ally turned around with a excited face, "Mia are you coming to school with me?"

"I'm to big" Mia smirked, "I wouldn't fit in the chairs."

Ally sniggered with Mia until she bent down, "there's something I need to tell you."

"Yeah."

"Its um your dad told me that you always wanted a big sister."

"I do" Ally nodded before she sighed and looked at the ground, "but I don't have one."

"Actually you do."

"I do" Ally looked up at Mia, "where is she?"

"Its me" Mia said slowly as Ally's mouth dropped, "your my big sister."

"Yeah" Mia wrapped her arms around Ally's waist, "I hadn't seen you since you were a baby we were separated when our mum and dad died, I was looking for you for a long time and then one day I knocked on your other daddy's door and I found you."

Ally started to smile, "my wish came true."

"Your big sister wish?"

"Even better" Ally hugged Mia tightly, "your my big sister." Mia hugged Ally back for a long time until the bell rang, "okay its um school time, learn new things jump in the mud do all the fun stuff."

"Does this mean your going to live with me and daddy?"

"Well i'm living with Meredith and Noah and i'll only be there for a few weeks."

"Oh" Ally said with disappointment.

"But i'll still be your big sister and i'll still love you."

"I love you to."

Derek was looking at his watch when he saw Mia coming towards his car taking deep breaths, "how was Ally?"

"Okay she wasn't angry or anything."

"And how are you?"

"Much much better."

"Mia" Derek said with a little sigh before he looked into Mia's eyes, "I want to apologise."

"For what?"

"For being mean to you, for treating you like you were a nuisance while you were babysitting for us, "I should never have done that."

Mia smiled as her hand clapped Derek's shoulder, "its okay big guy."

"No it isn't, I was worried about you being so close to Ally I was scared you were going to kidnap her that I treated you like dirt."

"Well I was going to kidnap her."

"But you didn't and I also understand why you didn't tell me the truth about yourself being Ally's sister I would have freaked out."

"That's what I was afraid of."

"Look Mia you've had a tough life in the last few years but I hope things can be different for you now and that you won't get back into crime."

Mia nodded, "i'm trying not to but its hard you know breaking habits."

"Yeah and throwing students into bins."

"It was a bully, don't give me a hard time about this to."

"Well this student who you threw into the bin she probably deserved what happened but doing that to bullies will get you in trouble. How about next time you try and stick up for your friends and only do physical things when kids do physical things to you act in self defense so that way you protect yourself"

"Okay" Mia said, "I wish Meredith would have just said that instead of the whole the world is going to end speech."

"Yeah" Derek smirked, "Meredith can be overdramatic at time but its just because she cares and she doesn't know a healthy way to express it."

"Yeah she's really bonkers now she used to be so cool."

"I think she'll settle down soon, so you want something to eat?"

"Um dude thanks but you don't have to get me anything."

Derek let out a snort, "you are definitely Ally's sister she says the same things as well when I ask her to get her something."

"And you still get her stuff."

"Yeah I do well since your massively in debt to the doc and she's probably going to ground you for the next three weeks due to her paranoia I think you should have one meal out."

Meredith was looking at her phone with worry debating whether or not to call the police when the door opened and Meredith jumped up from the table looking with anger at Mia and Derek, "what's this you've been out with her getting burgers?"

"Hello to you dear" Derek replied.

"Derek she's meant to be grounded."

"Well yeah but-"

"No buts Derek."

"Sorry doc."

"Sorry is not good enough Mia, you ever do this again and you'll be grounded for the rest of the time you are here."

"Chill dude" Mia said, "it was fine hey you should check the rubbish."

"Rubbish?" Meredith whispered.

"Yeah" Mia said, "there's a um surprise."

"Mia oh no oh no" Meredith said as she looked at the rubbish and picked up a pregnancy test and looked at it with fear until she saw it read negative.

Mia laughed and even Derek couldn't surpass a grin, "dude i'm totally kidding."

"Mia" Meredith dropped the test and said feeling like she was about to explode with rage, "you are slipping on very thin ice, mighty thin ice."

"Hey" Derek said as she ran to steer Meredith towards the stairs, "come on."

"What" Meredith said as she walked up the stairs with Derek right behind her, "come on back to bed." Meredith and Derek walked into the bedroom as Meredith turned around and rounded on Derek, "Derek she is driving me mad and you are not helping she thinks she can get away with this because of you, your teaming up with her against me."

"Meredith" Derek said in a calm voice, "I think your driving yourself mad more than Mia is."

"No i'm not?"

"Yes you are, your so worried about getting her through this time that your winding yourself up i've never seen you this cross and irritable before and Mia has said your not the same person, I think your making yourself sick."

"I just wish she would listen to me."

"Meredith she's fifteen and she's had a rough life you can't expect her to change overnight and the whole walking with her to school, being really strict about clothes the big list of rules. My point is you got to relax a bit ultimately its up to Mia what happens to her if she goes down the wrong path your not responsible for that."

"I am responsible."

"Only if you choose to be" Derek kissed her hand, "just remember we're not her real parents."

"Yeah" Meredith said as she took a deep breath, "I guess your right I just really don't want her to go to prison."

"Me to" Derek said.

"What happened this morning?"

"Well you were right about me being mean to Mia it was wrong and I wanted to make amends so I apologised."

"That's good."

"And Mia told Ally everything."

Meredith groaned, "and I missed it."

"I didn't see it either, it was a private moment between Ally and Mia."

"I still would have liked to have seen it." Meredith heard a knock and looked at her young charge standing in the doorway, "hey Mia."

"Permission to speak boss."

Meredith chuckled, "yes Mia what is it."

"Could I move a desk in to the guest room to do my studies."

"Sure you can Mia come over here" Mia wandered over by the bed, "I want to apologise for being so what's the word."

"Tightly wound" Mia said before she ran a hand down Meredith's back, "doc i'm sorry to for being a pain in the but so far I know your just trying to help me, i'm going to try and be better."

Meredith nodded, "lets just try not to drive each other mad for the next few weeks."

"Cool beans" Mia grinned.
