The discovery hit havoc so hard because he was a conformist. So he took in what he was given and what he saw as true. When he saw Roy he thought what they all thought that he was a ladies' man he wouldn't settle he had compromise issues and who knows what else. A happy bachelor content with one-night stands. He would be alone forever; he didn't know the word love. When he saw Hawkeye he saw a pillar of strength a no-nonsense woman, some one you didn't mess with. She was a solid rock in a storm, an unbreakable reef in rough seas, smart and cunning; stronger and defter with a gun than most men. That's why it hit him like a truck.

He thinks its fate, maybe. The rain came just as he left his newest former-girlfriend's apartment. He didn't know the area and he ran for cover, his coat collar turned up. He stood shivering under the blinking neon sign that advertised a bakery and breathing in the smells of soap from the Laundromat beside the sign. He knew he had to go return home sooner or later. There were no cabs partly because of the storm and the fact it was eleven pm. the bakery was closed and he hated the whirr of washing machines so he had some deciding to do. He could take his chances on the street or rush into the beautiful Thai restaurant across the street. Restaurant he decided. He sat, shaking the water off like a dog in a hidden table in the corner. Then he spotted Roy. He almost waved but then he decided he must be on a date and besides, he could see the colonel in action. He nearly passed out when he saw his superior's girl. Riza was dressed in a midnight blue floor length dress. Roy strolled over and handed her a Shirley temple, virgin. (That means without alcohol in case you don't know). For himself he had a corona.

Wowowowow ran through Jean's mind without stopping. Roy kissed her more tenderly than he had ever seen him treat anything.

"Koi...I'm not supposed to drink" "alcohol" he finished for her. Understanding rose like dawn on her face and she sipped softly.

"Tell me, what I did to deserve you, my loving wife, and now a child" Roy questioned with a glowing smile. KID?WIFE? Havoc didn't believe it. He couldn't have been so wrong.

And she grinned back "You loved me. That was all you had to do." and then they sat in silence and anyone could have told you that the aura of joy could never have been stronger. And when they stood to dance, Jean made a few resolutions.

First he was an idiot, beyond words, second he didn't imagine a better match for either of them, third they would have great kids, and fourth their secret was safe. As smiled above his whisky glass to his dancing superiors.

Your secret will always be safe with me. So with a bit of warmth in his chest he stepped outside onto the darkened, damp city streets.
