A squad of cadets were being led to target practice by their trainer, when one of the Kaminoan doctors approached them.
"Darro, I need to see cadet 1733 for a while" he said.
"But I'm about to take him to target practice, you know you keep taking him and he's falling behind" Darro said.
"Well I need to check his eyes again, we hired you to train the clones not argue with us we know what's best for the clones" the doctor glared.
"But my eyes are fine sir" 1733 said.
"Exactly his eyes are fine he is having no trouble seeing, why are you so convinced something is wrong with his eyes?" Darro said.
"Because his eyes are grey and grey eyes are unusual especially for clones, now come on cadet 1733" the doctor said.
"Alright Smokey you may go" Darro sighed. Smokey gave him a worried glance before following the Kaminoan doctor.
He was led to the medbay and hopped up on the examination table, he was waiting for him to get the little flashlight so he could look in his eyes. He was surprised when he came back with a needle.
"Sir I-I thought you were checking my eyes" Smokey looked worried.
"Be quiet" he hushed him as he cleaned his arm with an alcohol wipe. Smokey winced when he jabbed the needle in his arm and drew blood. Just then another doctor came in.
"Doctor Lu, why are you taking blood from this cadet? Is it still about his eye color? You know his grey eyes are merely a result of him having very little or no melanin in his irises, why are you so worried about it?" she asked.
"I just know something is off about this cadet, how did this happen to one of our clones? They are supposed to have brown eyes like their donor" Lu said.
"We've had a few clones that weren't born with brown eyes and I don't see you poking and prodding them so why this clone?" she asked.
"What about his docile nature? How do you explain that? He's supposed to be an aggressive soldier" Lu said.
"Not all the clones are going to be just like Jango you know this" she said.
"He's my patient and I will run whatever tests I see fit! I don't tell you what to do with your patients now do I Doctor Tullah" Lu growled. And went into the other room to test the blood sample.
"Is something wrong with me?" Smokey's eyes were round with worry.
"I'm sure nothing is wrong with you darling, I think he's just crazy" Tullah reassured him.
"I want you to stay here for the night cadet 1733" Lu said as he walked into the room.
"Aww, but what about my training?" Smokey whined.
"That doesn't matter now, I need to monitor you" Lu said.
"Why? What did you find?" Tullah asked.
"There is something that concerns me with his blood work, I can't be sure unless I take more, naturally that will make him feel weak so I think it best if he stays here" Lu said.
What's wrong? Am I ok?" Smokey was scared at this point. Lu grabbed his other arm and jabbed the needle into it, Smokey wished he'd be more gentle.
Smokey started feeling light headed and wondered how much Lu was going to take. He filled four vials, he was offered a snack to help him replenish his blood. Lu walked into the other room.
"Are you ok?" Tullah looked at him with sympathetic eyes.
"Y-yea I'm just really worried" Smokey said.
"Oh don't worry sweetie I'm sure it's nothing, and even if it is, you are in the best hands in the galaxy we would have you cured in no time" she said kindly.
"Now let me prepare one of the beds so you can rest" she walked off.
He didn't understand what was going on, he felt fine surely if something was really wrong with him he would feel it. But Doctor Lu was convinced that something wasn't right, he wished he could be with his brothers. Tullah returned.
"Alright, we're ready" she said. She took him over to one of the beds. She had placed some extra pillows and a blanket on it for him.
"Thank you" he said.
"Of course" she smiled warmly.
"May I please go to the mess hall?" Smokey asked.
Of cour-
"Absolutely not!" Lu interrupted her.
"Why not Lu?" she sounded annoyed.
"This cadet will go nowhere, he must be hospitalized immediately" Lu said.
"Hospitalized! Why? What's wrong with me?" Smokey's eyes widened in horror.
"Lu, what's going on?" Tullah tried to keep her voice even so Smokey wouldn't know that she was getting worried too.
"Not here, we must discuss this with Lama Su" Lu said.
"Come on Lu, just tell him what's going on you're scaring the boy" Tullah said.
"I will tell him nothing until Lama Su has been informed, now come on" Lu turned and left without waiting for her to follow.
"Just wait right here I will be back" Tullah said before leaving. He swallowed nervously and nodded.
They walked in silence to the meeting room. Tullah knew there was no point in asking him anything until they'd spoken to Lama Su. They entered the room and Lama Su was already waiting.
"Come, have a seat" Lama Su said. They both took their seats.
"Well? What was so important that it must be discussed immediately?" Lama Su asked.
"It's about one of the clones" Lu began.
"We have millions, you'll have to be more specific than that" Lama Su said.
"It's about cadet 1733, the one with the grey eyes" Lu said.
"Ah yes that one, what about him?" Lama Su asked.
I have his blood work right here, he has a detectable Midi-chlorian count" Lu said. As he handed the data pad to Lama Su. he looked it over and gave a thoughtful hum.
"So this cadet is force sensitive" Lama Su said. His expression was unreadable.
"How could this have happened to one of our clones? I don't understand" Lu paced back and forth.
"Forgive my ignorance, but what's the big deal? I just don't understand how this is a big problem" Tullah said.
"Could you imagine what would happen if Lord Tyranus found out? Or the Jedi for that fact" Lu said.
"What about Shaak Ti? She's a Jedi don't you think she's probably sensed him? yet she doesn't seem to pay him any mind" Tullah said.
"She couldn't have sensed him, or she would have said something already" Lu said.
"There's no way she hasn't sensed him, she has personally spoken to him" Tullah said.
"Well what do you recommend be done about it?" Lama Su asked, growing annoyed with the back and forth between them.
"I don't think he should leave this facility, he should be taken off training, I will study him, I must get to the bottom of this" Lu said.
"You can't do that, it will devastate him" Tullah said.
"Do as you see fit, but you should know Lord Tyranus is scheduled to visit the facility soon" Lama Su said.
"Don't worry he will not know about this cadet I will make sure of that" Lu said and bowed before leaving.
"Lu I think you're being ridiculous, can't we just not tell him and he lives on as a normal clone" Tullah said.
"You don't understand, it will come out in some way and when he realizes how powerful he can be he will turn against us, besides I've observed him in training, it's clear he doesn't like fighting so I don't think he will mind being dismissed from being a soldier" Lu said.
"Ok even if that were true I don't think he wants to be your test subject either" Tullah said.
"As I've said before, he is my patient and I will decide what to do with him" Lu said as they entered the medbay. They both stopped in their tracks when they saw things levitating in the air. They looked over at Smokey, he had fallen asleep.
"Is he doing that?" Tullah asked.
"Of course it's him, what else could it be" Lu said as he woke Smokey up. The things that were levitating fell and clattered on the ground.
"What happened?" he looked confused.
"Nevermind that, listen up you are very dangerous and thus must stay here, you will no longer train as a soldier" Lu said.
"Am I going to go to maintenance?" Smokey asked.
"No, follow me" Lu said, he led him to a secluded room in the back of the medbay. It had only a bed and a small table next to the bed.
"This is an old doctor's quarters, you are to stay here so I can keep an eye on you, there is a refresher right next to you" Lu said.
"But I can still see my brothers right? And go to the mess hall?" Smokey asked.
"No, you are never to leave this medbay, do you understand me? You are a danger to everyone around you" Lu said.
"Lu sir I'm sorry about whatever I did to be considered dangerous please don't make me stay here all by myself" Smokey looked at him with pleading eyes.
"You must, now get in there" Lu pushed him forward and the door slid closed. Darkness filled the room he fumbled around looking for the light switch. He finally found it and flipped it on. He sat on the bed and let out a shuddering sigh, he couldn't hold it in anymore he pulled his knees to his chest and began to cry.
Smokey didn't know how long he'd been in the room; there was no chrono to tell the time, and he couldn't look outside to see if it was dark yet, but he was pretty sure it had to be night by now. Just then the door slid open revealing Lu.
"Here's some dinner" he set the tray on the table.
"Thank you" Smokey said and Lu left. It was only when he started eating that he realized how hungry he was and began scarfing the food down. After he finished he laid back on the bed, he didn't like how quiet it was. He was used to sleeping in the barracks where he could hear hundreds, maybe even thousands of his brother's voices. He suddenly felt very lonely and wished he could go to the barracks. He would give anything to sleep in that tight pod tonight instead of alone in this room.
"Maybe I could, maybe Lu wouldn't notice if I sneak out" Smokey said. He opened the door, the medbay was mostly empty save a few doctors tending to some of his brothers. He tried to be as natural as possible, acting like he was merely a patient that had been released. Thankfully none of the doctors paid him any mind. Just when he thought he would make it.
"Cadet 1733!" he heard from behind him. He slowly turned around to find Lu heading towards him.
"You haven't even been in there that long and you're already trying to escape, didn't I tell you you were a threat and should never leave" Lu crossed his arms.
'I'm sorry sir, it's just I really miss my brothers and it's too quiet and lonely in there" Smokey said.
"You will never ever disobey me again I will be sure of that" Lu roughly grabbed his arm and pulled him back to his room and shoved him inside.
"Do not try to escape again!" Lu yelled and walked away. Just then Tullah approached him.
"See? The boy doesn't want to stay here, so how do you plan on keeping him in? You can't watch him at all times so you should just stop this nonsense and leave him alone" Tullah said.
"No, I just have to make it so he doesn't dare do it again" Lu said. She could swear she saw a sinister glint in his eyes.
"Well whatever I'm going home for the day I'll see you tomorrow" Tullah left.
Lu turned his attention to Smokey's room. "I'll show that clone what happens when you disobey me" he grabbed a device and walked over to his room, he pushed the button and the door slid open. He went inside and the door closed behind him.
