Zeb had been right. Ezra was feeling a little overwhelmed. So much had happened in the last few days that he was still struggling to process it all. Just being here with his family was hard enough to believe, and on Friday night when Hera and Kanan had tucked him in he'd been convinced that he'd wake up the next morning curled up with Dev to find out that this had all been a dream.

Well, he did wake up with Dev, but he'd also woken up in his new room with Hera-his mom-waking him up to tell him that she and Sabine were going to take him clothes shopping and to get his hair cut. He hadn't had any new clothes in over a year but he'd been quite content with just wearing Sabine's old clothes, which he told Hera, to which she'd responded he needed more clothes than just those and that he deserved to pick out clothes that were his own style.

Before they left, Kanan had stopped them and asked Ezra for some help. He told him how Zeb had found his list of names and addresses last night and they wanted to see if they could locate Alex's job instead of just showing up at his house. Ezra had been more than happy to help, and it hadn't taken that much internet sleuthing to find the tea room where Alex worked. It felt nice helping out his family, and even moreso knowing that maybe thanks to his help soon they'd all be together again.

After that, Ezra had found himself in the mall with Hera and Sabine dragging him into every store that looked potentially promising. Once they were finally convinced that he had sufficient clothing, they took him to a little salon where his hair got a much needed trim. They returned back home (he still kept having a hard time believing that he had a real home) in the early afternoon to the incredible news that Zeb and Kanan had found Alex with Ezra's help from earlier and that Zeb and Alex were going to be having a date at home that very same night. Kanan suggested that the rest of them go out for the evening to give them some privacy, which Ezra had no complaints about-getting to spend time with Kanan sounded amazing, and he knew from personal experience that it was better to give Zeb and Alex a wide berth when things started getting romantic between the two of them.

Kanan ended up taking them to dinner at a place called The Rainforest Cafe in a different mall from the one Hera had taken him to earlier. Ezra had to wonder if it was what it must be like to visit DisneyWorld with all of the cool animatronics that were scattered throughout both the gift shop and eating area. After that they wandered around in the mall a bit before going to see the new PIXAR movie in the theater. It was hard to believe he was getting to experience such luxury: wearing new clothes, eating at a nice restaurant, getting to go see a movie in the theater? It felt like someone else's life, not his, and he felt a bit bad that so much was being spent on him. But Kanan didn't seem to share his perspective, and if anything seemed eager to spoil him. For example, when they went to the Disney Store: Ezra found himself picking up and smiling at a plush of Stitch that reminded him of one he'd had when he was little but had inevitably lost with everything that had happened. He'd merely been admiring it and put it back down, but when they left the store a little while later he found Kanan presenting it to him, beaming and looking very proud of himself.

"Kanan, you didn't have to do this!" Ezra had cried, feeling a bit embarrassed and selfish-did he really deserve something like this?

"Ezra I saw that you liked it, and I know you don't have a lot of things of your own right now so I want you to have whatever makes you feel at home," Kanan had told him gently. "Y-You do like it, don't you?"

"I do," Ezra answered, wrapping his arms around Kanan and trying very hard not to cry. "Thank you, Dad."

"You're welcome, kiddo." Kanan hugged Ezra tightly back, sounding like he was also trying not to cry.

They'd gotten back to the house a little after eleven-fortunately the house was quiet, so Ezra was pretty sure he wasn't going to be exposed to anything potentially scarring. Hera had sent everyone straight to bed, and Ezra had felt like he was living the life of luxury getting to brush his teeth with a new, clean toothbrush with stiff brussels and having actual pajamas to put on-things that were so easy to take for granted until you'd had to go without for a long time.

He'd been a bit surprised to come back into his bedroom to find Kanan sitting on the edge of his bed.

"Hey, everything okay?" Ezra asks, his stomach twisting at the thought that something was wrong-was he getting kicked out?

"What? Oh, no, everything's fine!" Kanan answers. "I just- I wanted to make sure that you're okay, that you didn't need anything before you went to bed?"

"Oh, yeah, I'm fine!" Ezra replies, feeling relieved even though his heart was still racing. "Thanks for checking on me, though."

"Of course." Kanan stood up, also seeming relieved. "I, um- I also brought you this."

He held something out to Ezra, who looked down at the object in surprise. It was a book called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone-he was pretty sure he'd heard of Harry Potter, but he'd never really sat down to read the books. Truth be told he wasn't much of a reader, really.

"I don't know if you're like me and like to read before bed, or if you even like Harry Potter," Kanan says, looking a bit embarrassed. "But I had a spare copy and thought you might like it-it's a book that got me thought a lot when I was your age. It's okay if you don't want it, though!"

"No, it's great!" Ezra quickly tells him-maybe this was a bit out of the blue for him, but the fact that Kanan was thinking of his comfort and was trying to share something that was important to him meant a lot. "I've never read it before, but I'm looking forward to reading it now. Thanks, Dad."

"Of course." Kanan gives him a pleased smile before awkwardly opening and closing his hands at his sides, seeming unsure of what to do next.

"Um, Dad?" Ezra finally asks, trying to break the awkwardness.

"Yeah?" Kanan replies, latching on to whatever Ezra wanted to talk about.

"I was wondering... I know I'm probably too old for it, but would you mind tucking me in again tonight?" Ezra asks, rubbing his arm, hoping that Kanan didn't think he was being immature or silly but also wanting the comforting feeling he'd experienced when he'd been half asleep last night and Kanan and Hera had put him to bed.

"I'd love to," Kanan answers, and Ezra breathes a sigh of relief.

Kanan pulls down the covers and flips on the lamp on the bedside table before going to turn off the overhead light as Ezra climbs into bed, returning to pull the covers back up once Ezra was comfortably settled in.

"You need anything else before I go?" Kanan asks, smoothing the blankets over him.

"Don't think so," Ezra says-the truth was that he'd really like a goodnight hug, but he was afraid of being seen as any more immature than he probably already was.

"Okay." Kanan gives him a warm smile and seems about to go when he suddenly pauses and then, after a moment, reaches out and wraps Ezra in a tight hug. Ezra melts into the embrace, reaching out to Kanan through the force, wanting to feel his comforting presence, and Kanan almost immediately responds, his presence wrapping around Ezra, just as wonderful as the hug he was giving him.

"Sleep well," Kanan says softly when he finally pulls away. "I'm just down the hall if you need me, okay?"

"Okay," Ezra answers, adding a bit shyly, "I- Love you, Dad."

"I love you too, son," Kanan answers, squeezing Ezra's hands and sending a feeling of calming warmth through him before finally leaving, closing the door behind him.

Ezra settles down more comfortably in the bed, feeling happier than he'd felt in longer than he could remember, before picking up the book Kanan had given him. He feels a small "thump" as Dev, who seemed to have taken up residence under his bed, jumps up and curls up on top of his legs, and he scratches the cat behind the ears before opening the book and starting to read.

The next thing that Ezra knew he was waking up with sun streaming in through the window, the book lying open face-down on his chest. He must have fallen asleep reading-he'd never done that before, but he'd gotten much more invested in the book than he'd expected. The house was quiet-almost a little too quiet-and he wasn't sure if he should get up or stay in bed until someone came to get him. He didn't think he could sleep anymore, but he also didn't want to disturb anyone by getting up too early so he decides to just keep reading the book until someone came to tell him what to do. He ended up getting so lost in the story that he almost jumps in surprise when he hears his door creak open and sees Kanan poking his head inside.

"I hope you didn't stay up all night reading," Kanan says playfully, raising an eyebrow.

"I didn't, I promise!" Ezra quickly answers. "I just woke up and didn't want to disturb anyone so I thought I'd keep reading..."

"Hey, I wouldn't have been upset even if you had stayed up," Kanan reassures him. "It's a good book, it happens! But since you did sleep, how do you feel about coming down to help me with breakfast?"

"Sure!" Ezra eagerly hops out of bed, glad to be helpful in any way.

As he assists Kanan with making blueberry pancakes, Kanan asks him how he liked the book so far, and they spend the next half an hour having a lively discussion over it as the others slowly trickle in.

To tell the truth, Ezra wasn't sure what to expect from Alex-would he be nice (well, nicer) like he'd been at the end of the game, or would he be a jerk like he'd been at the beginning of the game? Fortunately his character development in the game seemed to have stuck (or maybe he'd never really been that bad of a guy in real life to begin with) because he actually seemed friendly, and was even okay with Ezra calling him Uncle Alex.

Then Sabine had brought up the Ren faire. Ezra had never actually been to one, but he'd heard stories and seen pictures and it seemed like fun. And, as it turned out, Kanan must have been really into them because as soon as breakfast was over he spirits Ezra away upstairs to try on old fashioned costume pieces that he called "garb".

"You have a lot of costumes," Ezra observes as Kanan pulls bins of clothes out of his closet.

"Comes with being a theater professor," Kanan explains. "Yes, you have access to the theater department's wardrobe, but it's kind of limited so you learn to hit up second hand stores and garage sales to pick up things for cheap that might be useful later."

"Huh." Ezra nods, taking this in.

"Do you have any interest in theater?" Kanan asks, and although his tone was casual Ezra could hear the note of hopefulness in his voice.

"I dunno," Ezra admits, hating to disappoint Kanan but hating even more the idea of lying and disappointing him later. (Not to mention Kanan could probably tell if he was lying.) "I've never really thought about it that much? I guess when I was younger I thought about working with animals-maybe being a veterinarian-but it's been a while since I've thought I had more of a future than working fast food for the rest of my life once I was old enough to get a job, y'know?"

"That makes sense," Kanan agrees gently, and Ezra could feel his presence reaching out comfortingly to him. "When I lost my mom I wasn't sure what kind of a future I had until a teacher saw some talent in me and encouraged me to explore it. You've got plenty of time to think about what you want to do, and we'll all be here to support you whatever you decide that is. But for now I want you to know you don't have to worry about anything but being a teenager and doing what makes you happy."

"Thanks." Ezra gives him a grateful smile. "I wouldn't mind trying theater-it's just something I've never really thought about before is all."

"Maybe we can try sparring later," Kanan suggests, his eyes lighting up and his excitement was contagious. "We can start out with wooden weapons and work our way up to dull metal blades-even I don't mess with live steel."

"Cool." Ezra grins up at him before wandering over to the bin of weapons next to Kanan's closet as Kanan continues to sort through the costumes trying to find something that would fit him. He examines the variety of blades and other armaments, grinning when he spots a couple of lightsabers in the mix. He shouldn't have been surprised that Kanan would have some of those in his collection. Spotting a blue-bladed one, he gently pulls it out to examine it better, gasping when he saw the handle. No way. No way!

"Kan- Dad?" He turns towards Kanan. "I-Is this my lightsaber?"

"Oh, you found it!" Kanan grins as he walks over to him, carrying a bundle of clothes. "I'd almost forgotten that I'd made that for you!"

"You made it… For me?" Ezra whispers, unable to believe that Kanan had made something that had clearly taken so much time and effort and love to put together.

"Of course!" Kanan answers. "I have my lightsaber-it was a custom saber I'd made for myself even before going into the game-and I made Sabine her dark saber so it seemed only fair for you to have yours too. And I thought maybe… Well, maybe we could still do jedi training sometimes, just for old time's sake?"

"I would love that," Ezra answers, hugging the lightsaber to his chest. It was absolutely perfect, and the fact that Kanan wanted to spend time with him, to train with him? It was more than he could have hoped for.

"I'm glad you like the idea, kiddo," Kanan says with a warm smile. "But as much as I'd love to talk about it more, we probably need to get moving on getting changed before Sabine comes to drag us out to the car, and I think I found some clothes that will work for you."

Ezra reluctantly puts the lightsaber back in the bin, accepting the clothes that Kanan was holding out for him. He unfolds them to find a loose cream colored shirt and brown pants-nothing too drastic but also not terribly exciting.

"I, um… These are great, Dad," Ezra says-even though he wasn't sure he was ready to go full costume, he'd expected something a little cooler based on Kanan's reputation.

"Don't worry, that's just the basic clothes," Kanan laughs. "Go see how they fit and then we can look into accessorizing."

"...Accessorizing?" Ezra repeats slowly, a bit worried about what that meant.

"Cloaks, vests, belts, that sort of thing," Kanan clarifies.

"Oh!" Ezra felt a bit better once he heard that. "Okay, yeah, I'll go get changed, then!" He hurries off down the hall to his room, curious to see if these clothes would fit and how he'd look in them.

As it turned out, the clothes were only a bit big, nothing he couldn't handle, and he surprisingly really liked how he looked in them-he felt like a character in Lord of the Rings or The Chronicles of Narnia! He was checking out his reflection in the mirror when he hears knocking on his door.

"Hey Ezra!" Kanan calls. "I've got some more things for you to try if you're decent!"

"Yeah, you can come in!" Ezra answers, curious to see what else Kanan had brought for him to see.

Kanan pushes the door open, a grin appearing on his face when he sees Ezra. "Hey, you look great!"

"Thanks" Ezra answers, a bit embarrassed by the praise but also glad for the reassurance. "Y-You look really good too!"

Kanan was wearing a shirt and pants a lot like Ezra's own, but he also had on an olive green vest (which he explained was called a doublet), tall leather boots, a wide belt hung with pouches of all shapes and colors, a forest green cape, and in his hands, in addition to more clothes for Ezra, were two staffs, one noticeably taller than the other, both made of dark, twisted wood, the taller one with a round green stone on top and the shorter one with a rough-cut blue stone on top.

"What exactly are you supposed to be?" Ezra asks, guessing from Kanan's appearance that he was supposed to be some sort of character.

"A mage," Kanan answers with a smile, setting everything he was carrying down on the bed except the shorter staff, which he holds out to Ezra. "And I was thinking, if you'd be willing, that maybe you could be my apprentice?"

"Really?" Ezra asks, carefully taking the staff and feeling the smooth wood beneath his fingers.

"Really," Kanan answers. "That was my first staff when I started going to faires. I thought maybe you'd like to have it as yours? Seems fitting, passing it down from master to apprentice and all."

"Kanan-Dad-I love it," Ezra answers, looking up at the older man, eyes sparkling.

"Well… Great!" Kanan beams at him. "That's great. C'mon, let's finish getting you dressed before the others come looking for us, okay?"

"Okay!" Ezra agrees, extremely excited to see what else Kanan had for him. As it turned out, Kanan had a belt similar to his own (although with not as many pouches), a midnight blue cloak, and a pair of boots that he reassured Ezra he would grow into-apparently all things he'd worn when he'd made his first mage costume, and the fact that they were being passed down to him from Kanan made them more precious than any new clothes ever could have been.

"Looking sharp!" Zeb says with a smile when Kanan and Ezra walk into the kitchen together a bit later.

"Thanks," Ezra says a bit shyly. "You too."

Zeb was dressed a lot like him and Kanan, but instead of a vest or doublet he wore a well worn leather apron and a belt laden with tools.

"Sorry, I'm not sure what you're supposed to be," Ezra apologizes.

"It's alright, little kit," Zeb reassures him. "It's not much of a costume since it's basically what I wear to work most days, only not as modern."

"...Dare I ask what kind of work you do?"

"I carve things out of wood and sell them at my shop. Most of the wooden things in this house have been carved by me or one of my ancestors."

"Really?" That was actually pretty cool.

"Yep! I sometimes run a booth at the faire just like my grandad did, but things were a little hectic this year so I missed the deadline to sign up. I don't mind terribly, though-it'll be nice getting to walk around with you all instead of being stuck at a booth all day."

"Cool." Ezra nods and then looks over at Alex who was still wearing the clothes that he'd worn to breakfast "What about you? Aren't you dressing up?"

"Oh, no, I'm not the dressing up sort," Alex blanches. "I'm going to change into my own-I mean, other clothes when we stop by my apartment on the way to the faire, but I don't really dress up in costumes."

"Not even for Halloween?"

"My family never really celebrated Halloween, and by the time I was old enough to decide for myself I was too old for trick-or-treating," Alex explains. "So I guess I've never really had a reason to develop a fondness for costumes. But I have no problems with any of you dressing up! I'm just not entirely comfortable with it myself."

"Got it." Ezra could understand and respect that. Even he felt a little nervous about going out in public in these clothes, so he wasn't about to try to pressure someone else into it.

Just then Hera walked in wearing a loose white blouse, a leather corset, and a long orange skirt embroidered with flowers. Ezra thought she looked beautiful (in a mom-like way) and clearly Kanan did too (although in his case in a very non-mom-like way) because his jaw was practically on the floor as he stammers out, "W-Wow, Hera, you look great!"

"Thank you, love." Hera gives him a warm smile before her expression sobers. "But unfortunately we've got a bit of a situation with Sabine."

"A situation?" Kanan repeats.

"A wardrobe situation. Nothing too serious, but I'm hoping you can help."

"I'll certainly try my best, but can I ask what kind of a wardrobe situation we're talking about?"

"I think you'd better come see for yourself."

"Okay," Kanan agrees before turning to Ezra. "Would you be okay hanging out here with your uncles for a bit?"

"Yeah, of course!" Ezra reassures him. He could handle being away from him for a few minutes-it wasn't like Kanan was dropping him on Endor and telling him to fend for himself, he was just going to be with two people he already knew and liked! He only hoped that whatever was going on Sabine was okay.
