Maureen has an addiction.
She knows she should stop, or let Mark go but that is some of the high. The sneaking around and lying is part of what makes it exhilarating.
She watched April's addiction destroy her, little by little tearing her apart from the inside out. She knows her addiction will do the same if she doesn't stop, but she can't. She needs the physical release that comes of being in a dimly lit room with a stranger's hands all over her. She needs the loss of control that comes with sex with no emotion.
She tries to reason with herself. Maybe if Mark didn't ignore it, if Mark wasn't such a pushover, if Mark wasn't spending all his time with his film or Roger… But Maureen knows she's lying to herself.
She knows how this will end. It will end in tears and yelling because she can't quit her addiction. And she will know that it's all her fault.
Because Maureen is addicted to cheating.

Mark has an addiction.
He knows what Maureen is doing, and he knows that he does his best to ignore it. But as he sits on the couch at four in the morning when she stumbles in smelling of alcohol, cigarettes, and sex, he almost wonders why he sticks around.
He knows that he's addicted to the moments like these when Maureen is sweet and funny. When the two of them are just laying together on that ratty old couch, or like when she bought him leprechaun socks for his birthday. And even though these moments are few and far between, he lives for these times when he can truly forget that she's cheating on him and that their relationship is deteriorating rapidly.
Mark wishes he could be strong like Roger and quit his addiction. He wishes that the next time they argued he could say, "That's it Maureen, we're over." The first time she comes home with red lipstick on her shirt, he knows this addiction will destroy him and his heart. But he can't quit her.
Because Mark is addicted to Maureen.
