If heaven was a town it would be my town
On a summer day in 1985
And everything I wanted was out there waiting
And everyone I loved was still alive

Samantha Carter sat by her father's bed. She watched him sleep, probably for the last time. He was dying and there was nothing that anyone could do to help him. She wanted to cry and to rail at him at the same time. Instead she took a deep breath and tried to think of happier times. He was always there when she need him most, even if he had been a bit obsessed with his work. Like the time when she was seven years old and she fell off of her bike. He came running out of the house armed with band aids and a kiss, and made everything all right. She wanted to make everything aright too but she didn't know how.

If heaven was a train it sure would be a fast one
That could take this weary traveler round the bend
And if heaven was a tear it'd be my last one
And you'd be in my arms again

He opened his eyes and told her everything would be ok. He said that he wasn't afraid to die, that he was going to a better place. Don't cry Sammie, death is a natural part of life. I should have been dead four years ago. It won't be so bad. Don't cry for me now, I want to see that beautiful smile. Hold me close and say goodbye, but promise me not to cry. I'll always be with you. Just look in your heart and you'll find me there.

Don't cry a tear for me now
There comes a time we must all say goodbye
And if that's what heaven's made of
You know I ain't afraid to die

He closed his eyes and was gone, just like that. Sam felt the tears beginning to fall. I'm sorry dad. I can't help it. I love you so much.

Don't cry a tear for me now
There comes a time we must all say goodbye
And if that's what heaven's made of
You know I ain't afraid to die
