The alarm ringing of her phone caused Reyna's eyes to snap open. She groaned and slowly lifted her head. Reyna had only been asleep for what felt like minutes. A look at her watch confirmed it had been exactly ten minutes. She blindly reached for her phone and knocked it off the bed.
"Here you go," a voice greeted. Reyna turned her head to the voice and saw her companion holding out her phone.
"Thanks," Reyna slowly said. Her mouth was so dry. Reyna grabbed her phone and answered it. "Hello?"
"Reyna, where the hell are you?" Nico questioned. His voice was full of worry and fear.
"Didn't you get my text?" Reyna asked as she slowly sat up. Her head felt like it weighed a ton. She rubbed her forehead and winced. "I told you I would be home late."
"This is a little more than late," Nico retorted. Reyna glanced at the clock on the bedside table, and her eyes widened. She was already supposed to be at the gym.
"I'm sorry," Reyna quickly spoke. She closed her eyes tightly as she tried to stand. "I just lost track of time. I'll be there soon."
"Why are you talking weird? Did you just wake up?" Nico interrogated. His voice was so loud, and it was too early in the morning for it.
"I'm not talking weird," Reyna quipped back. Her words sounded perfectly normal to her, and she was sure that she didn't slip any Spanish in there either.
"You kind of are," her companion chimed in a quiet voice. Reyna looked back at the woman.
"Are you drunk?" Nico demanded.
"I'm not drunk," Reyna denied, which sounded like a lie even to her. Nico's huff made it sound like he was unconvinced. "Look, I'm sorry I lost track of time. I'll be at the gym soon."
Reyna ended the call and looked at the blonde woman next to her. Then, her gaze moved around the room. There was a twelve pack of beer near the bed, but all twelve cans were scattered around the room. Reyna was sore, but it was in a good way.
"It sounds like you should get going then," the blonde cooed. Reyna nodded her agreement and slowly crawled out of bed. She gathered her clothes and slowly put them back on. Reyna would have to shower when she got to the gym. At least she had a few spare sets of clothes there.
"Last night was fun," Reyna began as she looked at the woman and watched her dress. "S...should I get your number."
"Didn't we say last night this was a one night only thing?" she questioned. Reyna slowly nodded. The stranger kissed her on the lips. "Then, let's keep it that way."
Reyna watched the woman walk out of the room. She never did get her name. Reyna sighed and hung her head. She turned and started to clean the room the best she could. As she did, her headache refused to subside. Her mouth felt incredibly dry.
Reyna had overindulged the night before. The alcohol from the restaurant was enough to get her drunk, and the bar they went to after pushed her past that point. Reyna just remembered a lot of drinking, flirting, grinding, and partying.
Then, she took some random girl to a hotel room. They spent the entire night together. It had been a great night, but Reyna felt a bit of shame burning in her chest. She didn't even know her name. Maybe, Thalia was right about Reyna.
No. Reyna wasn't going to waste time thinking about her. She did another sweep of the hotel room and grabbed the key. Reyna made her way down to the lobby and handed the receptionist the key.
"How much do I owe?" Reyna asked as she rubbed her eyes.
"It's already paid for," the receptionist informed Reyna with a bright smile. "Can I get you anything else?"
"No thank you," Reyna replied. She vaguely remembered Hedge telling her that he would pay, not that she totally believed it. Hedge was true to his word, though. Reyna turned and walked out the entrance, nursing her headache. It was going to be a long day.
Reyna didn't even make it two feet into the gym when Nico stopped her.
"What happened?" Nico began interrogating.
"Can we not do this right now?" Reyna groaned. Nico stared her down, and his nose crinkled.
"You smell like booze," Nico commented. A look of concern flushed his face. "Reyna, what's wrong?"
"Nothing is wrong. I just had a meeting, and we got caught up," Reyna lamely dismissed. She wasn't sure who to tell about what happened, but she knew that Lupa would be furious if she found out. Especially since Hedge was trying to convince Reyna to join his gym.
"There's blonde hair on your clothes," Nico deadpanned. Reyna's face turned a bright red. "Why didn't you tell me you had a date?"
"It wasn't exactly a date," Reyna tried to deflect. She ended up sighing and she looked down at the floor. "I had a, um, a o...one night stand."
"And?" Nico prompted. Reyna didn't answer. She felt like her face was burning from shame and embarrassment. "Wait. Are you upset? Did something go wrong?"
"No. It was great," Reyna replied. She slowly looked up. "We had a few drinks. Well,a lot of drinks. Got some food, watched some TV, and had a lot of... you know."
"Why are you nervous, then?"
"I'm not dating her," Reyna mumbled. "I don't even know her name."
"Reyna, it's okay to have one night stands. It's nothing to be embarrassed about. I've had a few with guys," Nico whispered softly. Reyna looked at him in surprise. "As long as you two were safe and both consenting, there's nothing wrong with it."
"But, doesn't that make what Thalia said true? When she-"
"Reyna, nothing Thalia said about you is true. She was pissed off at you and wanted to hurt you. That is why she said all of those things. I promise that Thalia did not mean any of it and regrets it. Just like you do. And I know that because at the end of the day you two are good people. Whether you believe it or not," Nico explained.
"Thank you," Reyna said softly. She walked forward and hugged Nico. "Do I really smell?"
"You reek," Nico confirmed. "Do you have toothpaste or mouthwash here?"
"I do," Reyna answered. She pulled away and headed into the gym. Reyna kept her gaze averted from the others as she heard them sparring. She just marched into the locker room. That headache wasn't going away, so she took some medicine from her locker before draining a bottle of water.
Reyna took a quick and hot shower, trying to sober herself up. As she stepped out of the shower and was pulling on her shorts, she heard the door to the locker room open. Reyna pulled on her shorts and grabbed a shirt. As she slipped it on, she spun around to see Lupa turning the corner.
Reyna stared at her mentor and felt her heart skip a beat. Did Lupa somehow know? After a moment, Lupa spoke, "Are you drunk?"
"Just hungover," Reyna began. Lupa walked towards her and sniffed the air once.
"Go home."
"Lupa, I'm f-"
"Drunk," Lupa interrupted. "I can hear the slurring of your words and smell the cheap beer on your breath. I am not going to have someone intoxicated in my gym. It is a liability."
"So what?" Reyna muttered as she looked down.
"Nico is going to take you home," Lupa decided with finality. Reyna glared at her. Instead of returning the glare, Lupa looked guilty. Almost like she blamed herself for this situation. Did she think that Reyna got drunk because of her? "Eat some food and get some sleep. Come back tomorrow."
"Whatever," Reyna grumbled. She pushed past Lupa and made it out of the locker room. As she crossed the gym, she saw that Hazel and Annabeth had stopped their training. Frank was standing near Romy, and they were both looking her way.
Reyna glared at the ground as she trudged through the gym. It seemed like she was where Lupa wanted her: on the outside looking in.
