A/N: This is my third Chilling Adventures of Sabrina story. Alternate take on the scene from the book Season of the Witch since that was one of my favorite scenes. Harvey painting children's faces is too cute for words.
Warnings: There is the occasional swear word. Also this story is unbeta'd so future apologies for any grammatical mistakes.
Disclaimer: I do not own Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and make no money from writing this.

Harvey couldn't believe how happy he was. He got to spend most of the day painting children's faces and getting to see them light up with his designs. Now he had just told Sabrina that he loved her for the first time. And she said it back! The only thing that would have made it better is if it would have included his three favorite people, but Tommy was working. Susie was helping her dad at the farm, and Roz was at a weekend Church retreat with her parents. While that would have made it amazing, he couldn't complain about getting the chance to spend it with his wonderful girlfriend.

He was on Cloud 9 so much that he really wanted to top off the day by winning her a giant carnival prize. Sabrina was off picking them up some food, while Harvey waited by the lemonade stand. Unfortunately he underestimated how terrible he was.

The only game that didn't have a huge line was a balloon dart game, and it had an extremely large selection of giant gorilla prizes. The fluffy black one kinda reminded him of her cat Salem, and even though she had never said it he got the impression that her favorite color was black. Especially if her signature ribbon was anything to go by. Studying it the distance was fairly close to the balloon board, it seemed like a game he could win.

"Ah do I see for myself a brave new contestant! Step right up boy and try your shot at one of my fabulous prizes. Only one dollar per dart, and if you pop a balloon you win a prize! Now come up, don't be shy." Handing over a five Harvey accepted the five darts he was given for his opportunity to win Sabrina something cool.

The first three times he missed completely. But the fourth and fifth times he knew the dart made contact, but nothing happened and the balloons didn't break. Despite him throwing them as hard as he could.

"Rotten luck my boy! But nothing was ever hard won without perseverance. Care to give it another shot?"

Before Harvey could dejectedly answer no, because the only money he had left he needed for gas later. A dollar bill was slammed on the table next to him. Looking to his right he noticed a stranger that looked roughly his age dressed completely in black with oddly gelled hair. He smiled sharply at the carnival vendor.

"One dart if you will."

The vendor smiled sharply right back. "Why sure son let's see if you've got what it takes to be a champion and win a prize."

Handing over a dart the stranger blew on it as if this was Vegas and he was blowing on a pair of dice for good luck before possibly whispering something. Drawing his hand and arm back he sailed a perfect throw popping a middle purple balloon with a loud successful pop.

"That's impos- I mean congratulations boy!" The carnival vendor exclaimed with strained enthusiasm. "You get your pick of the lot."

"Hmm," He said consideringly before turning to Harvey who startled at the sudden attention. "Which one would you pick?"

"Me? Oh I don't know...I was just trying to win the black one for my girlfriend." Admitting it out loud to someone that he couldn't win a simple game made him sound kinda pathetic. It was amidst his thoughts that he nearly missed the stranger's next statement.

"I'd like the black one if you'd be so kind."

The vendor begrudgingly pulled it down to hand to the newcomer who without hesitation handed it over to Harvey. Harvey felt very confused and immediately started protesting trying to give it back.

"No, hey you won this man. You should enjoy it. Maybe give it to someone who catches your eye?."

"Would you like one?"

"What?" Feeling his eyebrows shoot up. What did that even mean?

The guy looked as if he wanted to say something else before bringing his lips together in a smile. "I can always win another. That one is yours so you should take it. Give it to your lucky girl."

"Umm..." It felt weird accepting something someone else had won. Only to give it away as if he were the one who had won it.

"Just take it Harry." Placing it back in Harvey's hold and prompting a frustrated huff but Harvey made no attempts to try to give it back again.

"My name's Harvey by the way, not Harry."

"Oh? Would have never guessed you look so much more like a Harry to me."

"Well I don't even know what you-"

"If you two don't mind taking your squabbling somewhere else." The carnie sniped at them before turning a winning smile to the girl behind them. "I have some paying customers waiting."

The guy's face darkened, and he opened his mouth to likely snap something back. But Harvey gently grabbed his arm and pulled him away. "Come on. We should go. We're holding up the line."

He came along unresistant, until Harvey let go a few stands away.

"Nick."

Harvey stopped once more, feeling his confusion show. "Huh?"

"My name. It's Nick."

"Oh well um thanks Nick for winning this. My girlfriend is going to love it."

Nick looked pleased. "If you want your own, we can always go back."

"What? Oh no that's um generous, but I don't need one. The only reason I was there was for Sabrina."

"Ah the illustrious girlfriend. I can't wait to meet her. Speaking of which, where is she?"

"She's getting us some food." Harvey replied a touch defensively. He wasn't sure if he wanted them to meet being that he still wasn't sure what to make of Nick. Catching sight of Sabrina coming forward arms filled with food Harvey smiled. "Speak of the devil." Not anticipating Nick's reaction.

"What?! Where do you see him?"

"What? No, it's a figure of speech. Hey Brina." He cheerfully greeted handing the gorilla back to Nick for a second before accepting his cone of fries and cotton candy along with a kiss.

"Hi stranger." Gracing him with a smile before she turned to look over at Nick curiously. "Hello and you are?"

Nick opened his mouth undoubtedly to flirt if the way he looked at Sabrina was any indication, so Harvey cut in before he could say anything.

"This is Nick. I met him at the balloon toss game, and he won this so I could give it to you."

"Huh." Looking both puzzled, surprised, and strangely amused all in one. "That's quite a prize. How did you manage that?"

"What can I say," Nick replied back easily, somehow managing a casual pose even while holding a giant gorilla. "I guess I have a magic touch." Harvey missed Sabrina's eyes widening marginally before attempting to school her face. She then cleared her throat.

"Is that right?"

Nick gave a small shrug advising lightly. "Or maybe it's simply a case of beginner's luck. At any rate this is my first time at a carnival, and I could use some insight for what the best places to check out here would be." He then inclined his head toward the food their hands were full with. "If you have somewhere to stash this guy here." Raising up the gorilla slightly. "We can walk around easier. What do you say?" Turning his charming grin up a notch. "Would you care to show me a few of this place's finest?"

Upon the wavering silence Nick added. "I can even win Harry his own prize, if that helps."

"His name isn't-"

"I told you my name's-"

"Harvey, my mistake. Let me apologize by treating you both to a ride of your choice. No strings attached."

He didn't really think that was necessary and a bit of an overkill gesture but turned Sabrina to see what she thought. She looked contemplative. "Well I guess a ride or two couldn't hurt. And we can recommend our favorite spots. What do you think Harvey?"

Harvey turned to look at Nick who was biting his lip and looking hopeful. He let out a soft sigh unable to be the sole rejector to Nick's request. Maybe he was like this with everyone and would request to join another group at the next stand.

"Let's go back to my truck so we can finish eating and drop off the gorilla first then we can check out whatever stand or ride you'd like Nick."

As he guessed that seemed to make Nick happy, if his genuine smile was any indication. "Excellent lead the way mort- I mean Harvey." Still not sure what to make of this unexpected intrusion and newcomer Harvey did so easily taking Sabrina's hand in his to intertwine with Nick following closely alongside her. It wasn't long before he struck up conversation with some odd comments about sharing, so Harvey offered some french fries. Nick didn't immediately react until eventually taking some. It gave him the strangest sense of deja vu.
