I started this horror story a while ago, inspired by Halloween truth be told. I've not really come across a good power ranger horror story. I hope I can offer something half decent.
A Mighty Morphin Ghost Story.
She felt the golden, fine grains of sand compress under her feet as she planted them down, after smacking the ball past her opponents, securing the beach volleyball match for her team.
"Well done guys, you were awesome Trini," said her friend and recent opponent who had just bent under the volleyball net to come and congratulate her.
"Thankyou Kimberly. It was a close one" Trini Kwan replied as she high fived her best friend.
"It wasn't close at all. We kicked butt," said her teammate Zack who walked over to Trini and leaned into her, nudging her slightly.
"Bro, we were into the final set. You just about won by 2 points. That ain't kickin' butt." Said Jason who had just joined his friends on this side of the net and stood next to his teammate, Kimberly.
"With my meticulous observation of your match, I must conclude that it doesn't warrant the label of "kicking butt", it was a very competitive contest," said a bespectacled teenager, Billy.
"Dude, I have no idea in what you said, but it's your turn next to get whooped. Who you partnering up with?" Zack asked his friend.
Billy turned his head around and looked at Kimberly, then at Jason.
"Well, if you think you are a paragon of volleyball. How about you take on all three of us?" Billy challenged.
"You're on my friend. Just don't cry when we win," Zack replied as he jogged back to his starting position. Jason, Kimberly and Billy, confidently went back to their side of the net, ready to give Trini and Zack a defeat that they definitely deserved, especially Zack.
Trini stared at Zack in amazement, shocked at his confidence. "Zack! Did you have to – never mind, I'm just going to have a drink of water and we'll get started." She shouted at her friend's who all approved as they stretched and prepared for the upcoming match.
Trini briskly walked over to her bag at the side of the nets, took out her water bottle and took a big swig. She grimaced slightly as the water was surprisingly very warm. Granted, the sun was blazing but she didn't expect the water to be this warm.
She finished up not completely satisfied and put away the bottle before standing up, ready for another game. "Right then guys –"
Trini turned around and to her amazement, her friends were not there.
"Okay guys, HA HA, you can come out now," she shouted, walking up towards the volleyball net, attempting to find her friends who were obviously playing a prank on her.
They were however, nowhere to be seen. Trini looked around in a confused manner, searching for any sign of her friends. The thing that confused her the most was the fact that they were in the middle of the beach. There were no rocks, no structures, no nothing to hide behind.
Trini started to worry, now that she thought about it, there was no sign of anyone on the beach at all. She was stood there, all alone, totally bewildered.
She closed her eyes and took a big deep breath. Maybe she was having heatstroke and hallucinating, she had to cool off somehow. Trini gradually opened her eyes, wait no, open, open . . .
Why can't I open my eyes. And why the hell has it become so cold.
Trini lifted her fingers to her eyes to pull open her eyelids, but to her surprise, a finger painfully prodded her eyeball. Her eyes were remarkably open, but why was it so dark. So dark that she felt blind.
Trini started to panic a little, dread filling her heart and mind. It MUST be Rita, she thought. She instantly moved her right hand to her left wrist to grab her communicator and contact Zordon.
The communicator wasn't there. Okay, now she was panicking. Her heart started to pound inside her chest, she could actually hear it thumping.
"Billy, Zack, where are you guys. Kim, can you hear me?" Trini was getting very scared now, smothering terror beginning to take over her entire body. She couldn't see anything. Where was she?
There wasn't a single response from anyone. Nobody to hear her, nobody to respond to her.
She desperately examined her surroundings, but could not see anything apart from crippling, incapacitating darkness. Her heart was now about to pop right out of her chest. Her breathing became shallow and fast, not enough oxygen filling her lungs, further panic setting in.
"Jason, I'm scared. Where are you guys?" she whimpered despairingly. Not knowing what to do. None of her senses working, there wasn't a single sound to be heard, not a single scent to be smelt, nothing to touch, nothing to see. All she could hear was her own timid voice. She was getting desperate now.
The air was quickly becoming thick, icy cold and heavy. So stifling it was as though she was stuck in asphalt. Was this the actual air becoming thick or was it panic setting in.
Trini wildly spun her head around, desperately looking for somewhere to go and that's when she finally saw something.
She squinted her eyes and focused, she saw two red dots in front of her, the size of a penny. She couldn't tell if they were close or far away, meaning that she couldn't tell the exact size. But she focused on them nonetheless, it may be a clue as to where she was. Maybe Rita had thrown her in to another dimension.
She was disrupted from her thoughts by the red dots slowly, malevolently, flashing, black to red, black to red. She didn't know if it was black or whether whatever it was, was disappearing or being veiled by the darkness. She could not tell.
The lights seemed to gain larger in size, and the flashing, or was it blinking?... getting slower and slower. Trini was absolutely petrified now. The red dots must be eyes and this had to be one of Rita's monsters. She needed to prepare herself for a fight. She attempted to dispose of her fear but found it to be a difficult task. She knew she was astoundingly brave and a good fighter, but this didn't seem like an everyday monster.
Trini was stuck on the spot, unable to move, unable to speak, unable to breathe. This thing, whatever it was, was getting closer.
"Trini"
Trini heard a guttural and sinister voice break the eerie silence in front of her. She tried to scream for help, she tried to move but she couldn't do either. This thing was getting closer, closer. The two red dots were huge now, she could smell its putrid stench, like rotting flesh, visceral dread possessing her. This was the end.
"Trini"
This thing was right in front of her now. She could almost feel it's evil resonating from it.
"Trini"
The voice was becoming softer, it was almost feminine, human like.
"Trini"
What the hell….
"Trini. Trini. Wake up, you're getting late for school"
Trini's eyes snapped open to the sound of her mom's voice. Trini sat up, drenched in cold sweat. Her chest inflating and deflating fast, her pulse raging.
She composed herself and looked around her room, she peered over to her dressing table. It was a dream. Thank god it was just a dream, she thought as her mom's voice called up once again.
"Are you awake baby?" her mother called out from the bottom of the stairs.
"I'm awake mom, thank you".
Trini sighed a huge breath of relief and got up to get ready for school, putting her silly nightmare into the back of her mind.
. . . . . . . .
Day 1
Angel Grove high had just finished for the last day before mid-winter break. Our five favourite superheroes had booked a cabin in the northern California forests for a weekend getaway. They would be going home after school to get ready to set off. The plan was to spend Friday and Saturday night there before relaxing on Sunday and returning back home on Sunday evening.
Zack was taking his red seven-seater and had just picked up the last of the group after they had all retrieved their luggage from home and said goodbyes to their families.
"This is going to be so awesome guys," said Jason who was sat in between Kimberly and Trini on the back seat, with Billy at the passengers side clutching a huge map, giving directions to Zack.
"I know, I'm so excited!" screamed Kimberly with glee as she glanced sideways to look at Jason and Trini, but noticed that Trini was just looking out of the window.
"Most definitely," added Billy.
"Hell Yeah. A nice relaxing weekend without Mr. Caplan breathing down our necks." Zack said as he drove onto the freeway.
"You can say that again," Jason replied.
Zack was about to reply before he saw Trini through the rear view mirror, she seemed to be lost in her own thoughts.
"Hey, Trini. Are you okay girl?" he asked.
The rangers turned to see Trini still gazing out of the window before fluttering open her eyelids and coming back down to earth.
"Yeah, I'm cool guys," she answered.
"Are you sure Trini, you do seem very quiet," Kimberly said, looking at Trini with great care and love.
"I'm good, I'm just thinking about a weird dream I had last night,"
"Why, what happened in it"? Asked Zack.
"Well ummmm, we were just hanging out and then all of sudden, you guys disappear and I'm stranded in a dark room with a monster or something. It just frightened me a bit, that's all." Trini explained.
"Well, we're not going anywhere Trini." Jason pointed out as he placed a comforting arm around her.
"Yes, you're going to be stuck with us for a whole weekend." Kimberly said as she gave her friend a huge grin, reaching over and squeezing her hand.
"Yeah. You'll be sick of us by Sunday evening" Zack said whilst looking at her through the rear view mirror and winking, drawing out a smile from the yellow ranger.
"I concur. Nonetheless, a rather prominent neurobiological theory of dreaming is something called the activation-synthesis hypothesis , which claims that dreams don't really mean anything. They are merely electrical brain impulses that extract subconscious thoughts and imagery from our memories." Billy explained.
Kimberly and Jason gave each other perplexed looks. Zack, who's eyes were on the road, had a baffled expression on his face.
"Yeah, that sounds pretty accurate Billy. Thanks guys," Trini said with a very grateful smile.
"And to follow that up, ummm, I'll let you choose the music for this journey," Zack added.
Trini felt much better, she didn't want to bring negativity to their weekend away with each other so she pushed all of the negative thoughts out of her head and was ready to start their little winter vacation. She chose to play some 80s pop music and the rest of the journey was filled with laughter and a large amount of sing alongs
.
The rangers finally arrived at the cabin. They stepped out of the car that Zack had parked in the driveway and stared at their weekend accommodation in awe.
They looked up past the short wooden stairs which led to a stunning, golden oak cabin. It looked so welcoming, almost like something from a dream. It was two stories high with large beautiful windows, dark ceramic tiles covering the roof. It looked just like a magical home straight from a fairy tale. The amazing fact was, each cabin in the forest was hidden from other cabins by trees, this ensured privacy and comfort.
Trini and Kimberly smiled at each other when they saw the magnificently huge hot tub outside on the lush looking veranda near to the outdoor dining area. Right next the dining area was the grill which drew sounds of excitement from Zack, Jason and Billy. This weekend would be perfect.
"Well what are we waiting for, let's get in there," said Jason as he briskly led the group up the small staircase and right to the front door which on either side, had large windows that allowed you to look at the beautiful interior.
Jason reached inside his pockets and extracted the key which they had received from their check-in at the HQ of the forest retreat, and opened the door. The rangers were met with a warm gust of air and a scent of flowers entwined with sweet spices filling their nostrils.
"Oh my god, it's perfect," Kimberly stepped into the cabin and looked around excitedly.
The other rangers followed suit and took in the beauty of their home for the weekend.
"Most remarkable," Billy said as he felt the heavy interlocking tongue and groove walls.
"It really is" confirmed Trini with a wide smile, the biggest smile she had on her face that day. Things seemed to be getting better and better.
The rangers would be going on a hike the next day and would be buying food from a local store, for tonight, they had all brought along some things from home. They filled up the large fridge with their food and also put away other kitchen essentials they had brought along.
The group made their way upstairs to check out the bedrooms. The cabin featured three large bedrooms, but Trini and Kimberly would be sharing the double room whilst the guys would be sharing the triple room.
It didn't make sense to make waste of the third room since the other rooms were gigantic and had more than enough space in them.
Once the rangers unpacked their belongings and settled in, they agreed to have a relaxed evening since it was already 20:00 and they would be getting up relatively early for their hike. They made their way into the beautiful main room downstairs. Beautiful American walnut wooden flooring was laid throughout the entire cabin, the main room came with a deep maroon rug which was surrounded by three large and cozy maroon and straw coloured sofas. These sofas were instantly and eagerly occupied and the friends began to enjoy a relaxing evening with popcorn, sodas and a movie.
"Hey guys, can you feel that cold air coming in from somewhere?" Asked Kimberly halfway through the movie whilst she shivered slightly, reacting to the change in temperature.
"Yeah, I thought it was just me," said Trini.
"You're not alone, there appears to be a slight decline in temperature," added Billy.
"I feel it too, I'll quickly go check it out guys," said Jason as he stood up to find the source of the cold air.
He checked all windows and doors, and looked for any cracks or any holes and couldn't find a single one. Jason walked past the wooden staircase leading to the bedrooms on the second floor and reached the first-floor toilet where as soon as he got close enough to the entrance, he felt goosebumps instantly crawl up his arms.
He proceeded forward, thinking he found the culprit for the cold and opened the bathroom door. He checked the window and saw that it was surprisingly closed. He felt around and couldn't find any sign of air coming from anywhere. He walked back out of the toilet, and whilst passing the mirror, he jumped slightly at something he saw. Turning back to look again at the mirror he came face to face with his own reflection. He could've sworn he had seen a big shadow other than his own behind him in the mirror. Man why are you scared of your own reflection he thought as he shook his head and exited the bathroom.
He walked back up to the group and increased the heat on the beautiful fireplace positioned just behind the sofas.
"Can't find anything guys, but I hope this warms you up." He said as he sat back down on a sofa on which Zack wasn't lazily laid down on.
"Thanks Jase," said Kimberly, accompanied with a wide smile.
"Yeah, that should do the trick," Trini added. She couldn't help but feel as though she was being watched. She knew Jason wouldn't have missed anything though, he was always trustworthy, you had to be if you were the leader of the mighty morphin power rangers, with that reassurance, she felt a lot better.
"Guys, can we resume our movie please. It ain't that cold you know," said Zack whilst simultaneously stuffing his mouth with popcorn.
They finished the movie and almost forgot all about the strange cool air. The guys bid goodnight to the girls and everyone went to bed for a good night's rest before their hike in the morning.
Day 2
No no, please God no.
Ring ring
Jason awoke to the sound of Billy's modified alarm clock blasting loudly in the bedroom.
Damn, that was a shit dream, Jason thought as he rubbed his eyes and turned over to see if anyone else was awake.
"Good morning, Jason," murmured Billy as he drowsily got up and turned off his extra loud alarm clock.
"Morning Billy. You should've kept it on. Lazy ass here isn't awake yet" said Jason, jabbing his thumb towards the bed next to him in which Zack was fast asleep, loud snores escaping from his nose and mouth.
"It's perfectly okay. We shall awaken him by other means," Billy said with a cheeky grin.
Jason winked and joined Billy, clapping loudly next to Zacks ear.
"Oh shit, what? What's going on?" Zack mumbled as he sluggishly opened his eyes.
Billy gave Jason a big smile and got up to have a shower.
Once Jason entered the shower himself, his mind again focused on the dream he had just had. It was like trying to conserve water in a sieve. He remembered. Part of the dream how he, along with his power ranger teammates were relaxing in the cabin when all of a sudden, the lights went out and his friends began to disappear. All he remembered was a pair of bright red lights in the distance as he watched his friends helplessly fade away into oblivion.
"Dude, hurry up man. You've been in there for a half hour, I gotta look sexy for the chicks," Zack's voice from the other side of the bathroom door interrupted him from his thoughts.
"Chicks? Bro, we're going hiking not chick hunting,"
"There's always time for a little hunting bro"
"Yeah whatever you say. Sorry bro. Give me two minutes."
Jason quickly finished his shower, not having enough time to further focus on his strange nightmare.
. . . . . . . .
The rangers had just reached the end of their hike and had entered a grocery store on the way back to buy some food items to cook back at the cabin.
Kimberly had noticed that during the hike, Jason was even quieter than his usual calm, reserved self.
As the group split up to get some of their desired items, Kimberly slowed down a touch to speak to Jason. She gently nudged him in the arm with her elbow as she kept up to his pace.
"Hey you. Is everything okay?" she asked.
Jason, slightly shook, turned to see his friend next to him and gave her a little smile. "Hey. Yeah, I just didn't get a good night's sleep."
"Strange, neither did we." The pink ranger winced and furrowed her brows. "How about Zack and Billy?" Kimberly asked, a look of confusion now on her wind stricken, but nonetheless pretty face.
"Oh, Zack had a good sleep, trust me." Jason answered, watching on as Zack picked up a huge box of salt. He was very serious about his seasoning, especially when it came to grilling and barbecuing.
"That guy never fails to get a good sleep," Kimberly said, following Jason's gaze and smiling as she watched Trini trying to talk Zack out of buying such a huge amount of salt.
"I know right. The beds are comfortable though, I think we will all get a good night's sleep tonight," Jason said, turning back to Kimberly.
"Yeah, especially after this hike. But that hot tub has my name written all over it," Kim said with a puff of her cheeks.
"And I am going to join you. It looks awesome," Jason smiled.
"Oh you'll love it, I've brought some aromatherapy oils and lotions and all sorts of things that will relax you even more. It's gonna be so cool"
"As long as I don't end up smelling like a girl," Jason said as they walked past the baked goods and towards the fridges.
"You won't silly. You sure you're good yeah?" Kimberly asked again whilst looking up at his face, attempting to read his emotions.
"Yeah, thanks Kim." Jason answered with a positive smile.
"Don't mention it red. Come on, I think I see some big steaks that you'll love," Kimberly grabbed Jason's arm and led him to the fridge where a vast array of steaks and meats perfect for the grill were displayed.
. . . . . . . .
The group got back to the cabin, showered and all worked together to create an absolutely fantastic evening meal. They had succulent steaks, juicy burgers, salads, sides and sauces to accompany their meal.
"Oh. My. God. This is so good," said Zack as he finished his mouthful of medium-well steak.
"It so is isn't it," added Trini with a cute smile.
"Bro, it would be much better if you didn't scorch it, come on, try some of mine," Jason requested, pointing at his medium-rare steak.
"Nah dude, not with all the blood leaking out of it," Zack replied.
"As a matter of fact, Zachary, the red liquid you notice seeping out is actually myoglobin, a protein that's only found in muscle tissue. It is not present in blood or else, rare steaks wouldn't be so popular. It is scientifically backed to be the best way to cook and consume steak, since you don't obliterate the muscle tissue which results in tough meat," explained Billy with a casual smile.
"Well, I used to eat well done steak, so this is an improvement right?" Asked Zack.
"Yeah, I gotta give you that one bro," said Jason, smiling ear to ear.
"See, you feel better already. We haven't even hit the hot tub yet," whispered Kimberly softly, picking up a forkful of salad.
"Yeah, you're right. Thank you," Jason turned to face the pink ranger and smiled.
"No need to thank me Jase." Kimberly returned the smile as they both joined in with the conversations happening around the dinner table.
The rangers finished their meal, cleaned up and relaxed for a while to digest their food, ready for the hot tub.
Trini was already soaking up the delights of the hot tub accompanied by Zack. Kimberly was in their bedroom and had just slipped on her deep pink swimsuit, grabbed her towel and walked to her bedroom door.
As Kimberly placed her hand on the doorknob she heard a loud bang behind her, as if something heavy had fallen on the bedroom floor.
Weird She thought as she spun around in an attempt to locate the source of the random bang.
She couldn't see anything out of the ordinary, so she checked the electrical sockets to ensure nothing dangerous was occurring. Again she couldn't see anything. Shaking the thought out of her head, she resumed her walk to the heated veranda where the got tub was situated.
Kimberly arrived at the hot tub to see Zack having a nap inside the actual hot tub with his head resting on Trini's ' shoulder. Trini smiled up at Kim as she saw her approaching them.
"You two look comfortable. Should I go back and leave you alone?" Kimberly said with a cheeky grin.
"I really could do with someone to talk to since sleepy mastodon here isn't in the mood for talking," Trini replied.
"Yeah I can see. Are you sure you don't want some alone time?" Kimberly teased.
"Oh stop it you," Trini said with a shy smile.
"Where are Jason and Billy?" Kimberly asked.
"Jason's right behind you."
Kimberly turned around to see Jason walking up to them in his red swim shorts, a black towel draped over his muscular shoulder.
"Billy's coming. He won't be long," said Jason as he reached the hot tub.
"Awesome. Let's get in. I can't wait," Kimberly said as she delicately nudged him in the side with her elbow.
"Are you sure? I wouldn't want to disturb the love birds here," Jason nodded his head towards Trini and Zack in the hot tub, drawing out a giggle from Kimberly.
"Not funny. Don't you start too," said Trini with a sigh.
Jason and Kimberly chuckled at their friends, Zack snoring away, his head still resting on Trini's shoulder. They couldn't resist the hot tub, slowly bubbling away so they subsequently ceased the teasing of their friend. Kimberly eagerly entered the hot tub followed closely by Jason. As soon as Jason sat in the hot tub, he was met with wonderfully warm water, soothing little bursts of water hit his sore muscles from the jets inside the tub. He couldn't help but close his eyes and smile.
"I told you didn't I?" Said Kimberly as she watched her friend relax.
Jason opened his eyes and smiled at her. "You sure did. This is exactly what I needed."
Kimberly smiled back before closing her own eyes and enjoying the warm bubbling water relax her body and mind. Jason followed suit.
Trini let out an incredulous gasp. "You two were supposed to keep me company, not fall asleep yourselves!"
"Close your eyes babe. It's so amazing" Kimberly said, not moving her eyes.
"Well, if you can't beat em-"
"Any room for one more?"
Billy had just stepped out onto the veranda and walked towards the watery sleeping pit.
"Oh definitely Billy. Great timing. These guys have left me hanging," said Trini who had opened up her eyes with Billy's arrival.
"Not to worry. I shall keep you socially preoccupied whilst we enjoy this therapeutic form of hydrotherapy," Billy climbed into the hot tub to a space next to Trini.
Billy kept his promise and conversed with Trini, enjoying the relaxing water and striking up excellent conversations with his good friend. Zack, Jason and Kimberly opened their eyes now and again to add to the conversations before going back into their blissful relaxation. A relaxation that would be short lived.
SWOOSH
The doors and windows of the cabin flew open, disrupting the relaxation that the rangers were previously enjoying. Even Zack jumped with fright and twisted his head towards the strange occurrence.
"What the fuck just happened?" he asked, attempting to adjust his eyes to the light.
"The door and windows have just blown open by themselves," Trini said as Zack finally lifted his head from her shoulder and looked towards the source of the noise.
Jason turned around and looked behind him at the cabin, so did the rest of the group.
"What the hell is happening?" asked Kimberly as she stared at the windows with panic in her eyes.
"I have no idea but something seriously strange is going on." Said Jason.
"You can say that again, I've been hearing all sorts of noises." Kimberly replied.
"There's something not right guys, I've been feeling weird too," Trini mumbled as she hesitantly stared at the gaping door.
"There has to be a logical explanation for this," Billy added.
"Logical explanation? Billy, doors and windows don't open on their own," Kimberly replied.
"It must have been the wind," claimed Zack.
"Zack, there is no wind," Trini replied with an unsubtle bat of her eyelashes.
"Guys, let's check it out, there could be someone or something inside," said Jason.
"But Jase, I mean, I can't like, walk around in my swimsuit, what if some douche bags are breaking in"
"Yeah you're right. It's okay, you guys stay here, I'll go." Jason stood up and exited the hot tub, rubbing himself dry with his towel.
"I'm not happy to walk around like this but there's no way in hell I'm letting you go alone. No chance." Kimberly responded as she reached for her towel on the free-standing towel stand at the side of the hot tub.
"Yeah, no way bro!" declared Zack.
"Affirmative," said Billy.
"Yeah, we should stick together" added Trini.
"Like we always do," said Zack.
Jason smiled as he watched his closest friends all reach for their towels and dry themselves. Trini and Kimberly wrapped their towels around their torsos and went to stand next to Jason, closely followed by Zack and Billy in their swim shorts.
"Right, how do we do this"? Kimberly asked as she turned to look at the team leader.
The red ranger looked at the cabin and at the door and windows that were wide open. "We stick close together, in formation," Jason answered.
"I gotcha bro," said Zack as he moved backwards and stood next to Billy. Kimberly and Trini instantly moved in front of them, slightly to the sides, just behind Jason who was at the front.
"Everyone ready?" Jason asked.
"Yes!" replied the team in unison.
They all slowly moved forward a single unit, arms raised, ready to protect themselves. This could be anything.
As they got to the door, a huge gust of wind accompanied by the sound of flapping wings, nearly blew them out of their formation.
"Did you guys hear that?" Asked Kimberly, referring to the loud sound of the wings threshing around.
"Damn, I bet this is Rita and one of her monsters," said Zack
"Yeah. She just had to ruin our weekend," Jason replied.
Another blast of wind came at them, again causing them to become slightly unsteady.
"Stay strong guys. Its just a bit of air," Jason said as he took a step inside their rented cabin.
"Can't we morph?" asked Kimberly.
"Have you guys got your morphers?" Jason inquired.
"No"
"Well if there's some guys inside, its better we don't morph anyway. We can't blow our cover. Let's keep going." He whispered.
The rangers all entered the cabin and looked around for any sign of a threat. The entire first floor appeared to be empty.
"Don't you guys think it's really cold in here, like a bit too cold?" Kimberly asked.
"It may be due to us wearing very little clothing," Billy answered.
"Yeah, you have a point." Kimberly said.
The rangers looked around them and saw nothing or no one.
"You might as well show yourself now. Save the trouble for when we defeat you," Jason bellowed with authority.
No response.
"Ha. I think you scared em off Jase," said Zack with a chuckle.
"Don't be too sure, look," Trini pointed at the sofas where the cushions began to float up in the air. They then flew directly towards them with the speed of a bullet.
"Whoah,"
Though the cushions came at them with speed, the rangers easily deflected them out of the way.
"Is that the best you got? A few soft cushions," Zack said as he let out an unimpressed laugh.
Trini scoffed at Zack, "don't tease it Zack,"
"Dude, Rita may have just created an invisible monster. We need to be careful," Jason added.
"Oh shit" Zack remarked, out of the corner of his eyes, he saw the wooden coffee table levitate up in the air and rotate around to face them.
"Zack, you had to open your mouth didn't you?" Kimberly said as she warily laid eyes on the heavy table which was now vibrating violently.
"Guys, we've dealt with fire, thunder and all sorts of shit being thrown at us. This is nothing." Said Jason.
"Yeah but this will be coming out of our asses if it breaks, well have to-," Zack was cut off in the middle of his sentence as the table was flung at them fiercely, accompanied by another flatter of those invisible wings.
"Duck!" Screamed Jason.
The coffee table flew past them, safely over their heads and landed with a crash behind them, making a huge dent in the wall.
"Man that was close," Kimberly said as she and the rest of the rangers tentatively stood back up, adjusting their towels around them.
Zack stared at the now trashed table and the large dent in the wall behind them. "Well, I don't think we'll be getting our deposit money back,"
"The more alarming circumstance is, where the hell is this thing!" Billy dusted himself off and looked around.
The five power rangers slowly inched forward, further into the main room of the cabin, standing in front of the circle of sofas in the middle of the room.
"I think that's the end of-" Jason was cut off by Kimberly who's gaze was leading onwards from the sofas and towards the far wall near the first floor bathroom.
"Jason, guys. Look." She quickly wrapped her arm around Jason's in fear of what she was experiencing, Trini's eyes laid on what Kimberly was seeing and grabbed a hold of whatever and whoever she could. The team rooted to their positions staring at the wall in amazement.
The solid wall in front of them was painted with the shadow of the culprit behind the attacks. A huge spread of its feathered wings were clearly visible along with a what appeared to be a slightly feline shaped head and a long furry looking tail. The body appeared to be indistinguishable from the slowly broadening shadow.
"What do we do? We can't see it," asked Trini, desperately looking around at her teammates for answers, who were looking behind them and all around the room to find the origin of the beast.
Zack made eye contact with Trini and shrugged his shoulders. "I dunno. How do we fight something we can't see."
Jason felt his arm being constricted by Kimberly's grip, he looked around at his teammates and saw worry and helplessness in all their eyes. He couldn't just stand here and do nothing.
"Get the hell out of here and go back to Rita," Jason shouted, standing up tall and facing the creature's shadow. "Or grow a pair and show yourself."
To his surprise, as soon as he said these words, the shadow instantly vanished.
"Well-"
"Don't say a thing Zack, please," Kimberly pleaded her teammate.
They heard a loud shuffle of feathers and felt a breeze pass them, as though the creature flew right past them and out into the late evening sky.
"Did this being just depart from here," Billy said.
"Yes it seems like it," Jason replied.
Kimberly relented her grip on her leader and noticed a change in the temperature. "Has it gotten warmer in here or is it just me? I'm not going crazy am I?"
"The temperature does seem to have increased fractionally ," Billy answered.
"What is this thing. It flies, it makes things cold, it's goddamn invisible," Said Zack.
"And why hasn't Zordon contacted us? I hope the communicators are working" Jason lifted up his left arm gently, Kimberly still keeping a hold on it, and brought it up to his face. The red ranger pressed a button and out came a deep, comforting voice.
"I read you Jason."
The team let out a huge sigh of relief, but also looked confused as to why their mentor didn't warn them of the attack.
"Zordon. We were just attacked by one of Rita's monsters. Why did you not warn us,"
"I'm sorry Jason. I have not received any signal of danger from the grid," the rangers looked at each other in disbelief. Zordon turned to speak to Alpha 5, "Alpha, scan the grid for any sign of danger,".
"Right away Zordon," out came a robotic voice. The rangers waited patiently for the result. They I looked around frequently, checking for any sign of this creature showing up again.
"Zordon, I haven't been able to find any disruption in the grid."
"This is most bizarre. Alpha, bring up Rita on the viewing globe,"
Alpha pressed some keys on the command centre control panel and brought up a stream of Rita Repulsa sat in her moon Palace, looking rather relaxed and in apparent contemplation.
"Rangers, Rita doesn't seem to be engaging in any evil activities. Are you sure this was one of her monsters. I am unable to pick anything up." The wise sage spoke to the rangers, searching for clarity.
"Zordon, this thing was invisible, it trashed our cabin and attacked us," said Kimberly as she leaned in further to speak through Jason's communicator.
"I am sorry my young friends. I am unable to find the source for this disturbance. May I suggest something?"
"Yes please Zordon," Jason said.
"I am positive that Rita has not had a hand in this attack. This may be a creature from earth, one of its animals. I am aware you are in the forests of California, correct?" Zordon asked.
"That's right Zordon." Jason answered.
"It is within my understanding that the forest is full of animals, large and small-"
"But Zordon, this couldn't be a bird or an animal. All we saw was a shadow of it and we can't think of anything that could make this particular shadow." Zack explained.
"I acknowledge that you are all very brave, honest and wise. I have no reason to doubt you. Me and Alpha will look into this further whilst you remain cautious and vigilant. If we find something, I shall contact you at once."
"I got you Zordon. Thank you." said Jason as he ended the conversation by releasing a button on the communicator device.
"Man that's crazy." Zack said.
"It is most surprising." Billy added.
"What do we do?" Kimberly asked.
"We stay calm and try to figure this out, but still try and enjoy our weekend," Jason said as he moved to pick up the now broken coffee table. Zack ran to help him whilst Billy, Kimberly and Trini cleaned up the mess that this creature had made.
The five friends quickly cleaned up the main room, cleaned and covered the hot tub and converged back in the middle of the room.
"Right, so what are we doing next?" Asked Zack with a grin forming on his face.
"I don't know about you guys," Trini lightly wiped her brow. "But I'm pooped."
"I concur, I think we all need a good nights rest after today's exhausting events." Said Billy.
Jason eyed the clock on the wall in the main room. "It's nearly midnight guys, we should probably get ready for bed," he then saw Zack's disheartened face. "Those of us who want to of course." He added.
Zack gave his best friend a high five "Right, who's going to join me?"
"I'm beat dude, I'm going for a shower," Jason said.
"Yeah me too, sorry," Said Trini.
"I'm with Jason and Trini. Sorry dude," Kimberly grimaced slightly.
"I am in need of some tranquility, but I shall keep you company if you want. I brought along monopoly." Billy gave Zack a huge smile.
"You're on man." Zack fist bumped Billy. "But you'll have to teach me how to play it first," he finished, with a cheeky smile.
The group set off for their bedrooms. Trini and Kimberly said goodnight to the guys and entered their bedroom.
Kimberly firmly closed the door and twisted on the spot to face her best friend. "Trini, are you sure you don't want me to swap with Zack, I mean, I'm sure you won't mind being squashed together on your single bed," Kimberly quickly went to put on her pyjamas and smiled mischievously at her friend.
Trini was astounded by her friend's suggestion, but came back with an excellent response. "Why, so you can be closer to Jason?"
"What! What do you mean?" Kimberly asked with wide eyes, as she pulled on a flowery pink pyjama top.
Trini gave Kimberly an incredulous look. "Come on Kim. I saw the look you gave him when he was walking over to the hot tub, and then how close you were sat next to him." Trini moved to sit on her bed.
Kimberly was left open mouthed and shocked by her friends assertion. "Oh stop it Trini, I did no such thing," she sat on her bed and pulled on her matching pyjama shorts.
"So you deny the look you gave him? I clearly saw it Kimberly," Trini raised her eyebrows, a smirk beginning to form on her face.
"Well okay, maybe I checked him out a tad, you can't blame me, he looked really good." Kimberly confessed with a guilty smile.
Trini gave her friend a satisfied, all-knowing smile which Kim shook her head at.
"But I only checked him out a tiny bit, not like we were on top of each other, half naked like you and the Zackman," Kimberly finished.
"That was hardly on top of each other. He was just resting his head on me,"
Kim gave Trini a skeptical look. "Mmmhmm."
"Shut up. Anyway. I'm going for a shower, we'll resume this conversation after I've finished." Said Trini.
"Yeah run away sabre tooth." Kimberly teased her friend. "In the meantime, I shall go make us some hot chocolate," she said, sliding into her evening slippers.
"Oh that would be amazing. We'll have a little girls night in," Said Trini.
Kimberly moved to exit the bedroom. "Are you sure? I could just go and ask-"
Trini threw her teddy bear at Kimberly who nimbly dodged it and closed the door behind her, giggling as she descended the wooden staircase on her way downstairs to the kitchen.
Kimberly
Kimberly got to the first floor and instantly regretted not wearing something warmer. She carried on walking into the main room and turned behind the sofas to the left and into the little kitchen area where she flicked on the dim kitchen light. The pink ranger went to the fridge and took out some milk they had bought earlier and was about to reach into a cupboard for the hot chocolate but an almost inaudible cough from behind her, made her jump out of her skin.
She immediately turned her head around and squinted her eyes to see someone sat on one of the sofas, in total darkness. She recognized the figure and expelled a huge sigh of relief.
"Jason. What are you doing down here and in the dark too?"
"I just needed a bit of time alone," Jason replied, though his voice seemed deeper, and more hoarse. Almost as if had been crying.
"Hey Jase, are you okay?" Kimberly asked, now turned fully around, facing her friend, his head and shoulders just visible from behind the sofa.
"Yeah. I'm great now that you're here,"
Kimberly smiled a little and turned around to retrieve the tub of drinking chocolate. "Oh stop messing around red. Are you sure you're okay?" She asked again, keeping her eyes fixed in front of her at the task in hand.
She heard Jason stand up and move a little. "Oh yeah. I'm great."
Kimberly thought he sounded unusual but continued to make the hot chocolate, mixing the cocoa powder into the milk. "Do you want some hot chocolate?"
"No thanks. I have all I need," Jason said as he slowly moved towards the pink ranger, who was nervously smiling due to his comments.
"What has gotten into you Scott. Are you flirting with me?" She tilted her head behind her to see what he was up to and almost dropped the bottle of milk in her hand.
Jason was walking towards her, with nothing on but a pair of boxer shorts. She quickly turned back around and focused on stirring the cocoa into the milk, even though it was very well stirred already. She didn't dare look back at her friend and teammate. He had never been flirtatious with her before. She didn't know how to react, but why now? And why half naked?
"What's wrong. Am I making you nervous?" came a hoarse voice, not too far away from her.
"Well yeah Jase. You're stood here practically naked. What the hell." She let out a shy giggle and couldn't ignore how good he looked right now.
"I'm not naked yet. But you can make that happen if you please. I know that is what's on your mind right now." His voice now seemingly inches away from her. She could feel his rather cool breath on her neck, causing the little hairs there to squirm and quickly stiffen. Though this was funny to start off with and most likely a joke to lighten the mood. It was still rather unexpected, she felt as though he was beginning to overstep the line now. It was not like Jason to be flirtatious or in this case, seductive.
"Do you often wonder what it would feel like for me to be inside of you?"
Okay, that was going a bit too far now. She couldn't believe what her long time friend, leader and karate mentor was saying. This was downright disrespectful but it was not like the Jason she knew at all. She had to ask him why he was talking the way he was, he had never shown any romantic emotions before never mind dirty talk. This was totally left field for Jason.
Kimberly slowly turned her head around and dropped the mug of hot chocolate on the floor with a crash, bits of ceramic shattering everywhere. She came face to face with an empty room. Not a single soul apart from her own, on the first floor. Just cold, empty darkness piercing into every pore on her body. Her voice seemed to have disappeared and she couldn't shout out for help. She completely ignored the pieces of porcelain scattered along the floor and ran for the stairs as fast as her gymnast legs could take her. She flew up the stairs and reached the guys bedroom. Without knocking, without any warning, she burst inside.
"Oh hello Kimberly. Be mindful of the door, we owe this company enough money already." Billy was sat on a rug on the floor next to Zack and surprisingly Jason, in the middle of a game of monopoly.
"Are you okay Kim?" Jason asked as he looked up at his friend who appeared to be very shaken.
She stared at him for a second, noting that he was fully clothed and relaxed on the floor with a pillow underneath him, he couldn't have come up here so fast.
She was panting now, her brain in all sorts of confusion. Her breathing becoming irregular and getting faster and faster by each passing second. Her heart filled with blood curdling horror because of what just happened.
"Kim," Jason saw how shook Kimberly looked, so he stood up and walked over towards her. "What's happened? Are you okay?" Jason moved to place a hand on her shoulder, Kimberly flinched as she felt Jason's hand touch her. Zack and Billy stood up having noticed her odd behaviour, evidently worried about their friend.
"Hey Kimberly. It's me." Jason said as he removed his hand and took a step back, searching her face for answers, not wanting to scare her any further
She looked up at her leader's face and into his soft, worried eyes. This was the Jason she knew. The team's protector. She definitely recognized the person stood in front of her. She crumpled into his arms and began to sob. Jason wrapped her into a gentle hug and held her tight to his chest.
"Kim what's up girl. You okay?" Zack asked, walking up to her and rubbing her back.
Kimberly continued to sob but took out her head from Jason's chest and looked at the black and blue ranger. "Were any of you guys downstairs in the last five minutes?" She asked.
"Negative Kimberly. Since our farewell a short while ago, we have been enthralled in a game of monopoly. Why do you ask?" Billy moved closer to his friend in order to support her. Kimberly's frightened demeanor, was evidently impacting her friends.
"I-I umm, I just saw Jason downstairs literally a minute ago," Kimberly gingerly retreated from the embrace to once again look at the confused face of the red ranger.
"But, that's impossible." Zack said, a look of perplexity on his face.
"Kim, I've been up here all this time. I swear." Jason added.
"That's what I'm afraid of. If that wasn't you. Who the hell was it?" Kimberly questioned.
Zack stroked his chin and pondered her question for a second. "Or what the hell was it?"
Trini
The yellow ranger had finished having a relaxing shower and had just started to take out her pyjamas. Her body reacted to the chilliness in the room by first, her skin starting to tingle and then her body gently shaking, attempting to warm her up. She wondered why it was so cold as she sat on the edge of her bed and wrapped the toweling robe tighter around herself with her arms, pondering whether to dry her hair and straighten it, or to fasten her hair up.
Her thoughts were interrupted by some fast paced footsteps outside the room. She heard the boys bedroom door opening and wondered what was going on.
Trini decided to put her hair up and once she dried her hair with a towel, she walked over to the dresser on top of which her yellow scrunchie was sat in the midst of hairspray, perfumes and other items. She dug out the scrunchie and bent down a little in order to look into the mirror and started to tie up her hair.
Trini began to feel goosebumps forming on her skin, and that's when she heard it. Was it coming from inside the room, or from a distance, she didn't know and didn't care. She heard a low, guttural growl almost like a drain being emptied. She left the scrunchie in her hair, half done, and nervously looked over her shoulder, only to be faced with an empty room.
The bedroom lights started to blink on and off in quick succession. The visceral growl, all but a memory. Was it even real.
The lights came back on. Trini felt so relieved, the lights were on and she could hear nothing now. Nothing but a deafening silence. Why was it so unnaturally quiet. No sound of the birds in the forest trees, no owls, no wild animals stumbling around in the bushes. No trace of the annoying katydids chirping away. It was deadly silent.
Trinis body was now twisted on a 180 degree angle, looking around nervously for any sign, any indication, any hope of her friends or someone, anyone at all. Trini turned around and what she saw in the mirror, filled her heart and soul with extreme, agonizing fear.
Zack
"It could have been that monster from earlier on. We've seen monsters before that could impersonate us." Jason stated.
The rangers were all sat on a bed, trying to come up with any explanation of the recent events.
"This was different Jase. I don't know if it was a monster." Kimberly replied, leaning up against Billy who was gently rocking her.
"Well what else could it have been?" Zack asked.
The rangers fell silent. They were all thinking about the same thing, but nobody really wanted to say it out loud.
"Maybe Rita has put a spell on us to see and hear things that aren't there." Billy suggested.
"But you heard Zordon. Rita is fast asleep in her Palace and there's no activity that he or alpha have intercepted." Zack said with a shrug.
"Guys." Kimberly looked around at the rest of her teammates. "Maybe it isn't monster. What if, what if it's a ghost?"
There it was. Kimberly was the first one to say it. Jason and Zack thought of it too, but they didn't want to believe it. They weren't sure if they did believe it. Billy being the skeptic, well he wasn't buying it.
"Generally, when we think of ghosts and hauntings and such. There is usually a perfectly normal explanation for the things we hear and see."
"Well, what's the explanation for me seeing Jason walking around completely naked, being a total douche and coming on to me. And then disappearing in a fraction of a second!" Kimberly fumed, making Billy jump.
"Wait, I was, I mean, he was naked and coming on to you?" Jason asked, totally bewildered.
"Guys, Where's Trini?"
The rangers looked at each other in shock at Zack's words. He was right. Where was Trini.
"Well, before I left to make a hot chocolate, Trini was in our room getting ready for a shower."
Zack stood up immediately. "I'm going to go check on her."
"Good, bring her in here Zack. We shouldn't be alone tonight regardless of what this thing is." Jason explained to his best friend who nodded in response. "I'm going to contact Zordon and see if he has any new information."
Zack nodded his head once more and got up to leave the room.
The rangers
"I will look into this further my rangers. Do not worry. Try to stay calm. We shall defeat this new enemy as we have done countless times before."
The rangers listened to their mentor Zordon on their communicators. He was right. They had faced some powerful foes before and had come out on top each and every time.
"Yes Zordon." Jason replied.
"I will be in touch soon. Take care rangers. May the power protect you."
Jason let go of the button on his communicator and looked around at Billy and Kimberly. "I guess we just have to wait guys."
Kimberly let out a sigh. She wasn't looking forward to waiting. She knew that she wasn't talking nonsense. It could very well be a ghost but the thing was, nobody was backing her up on it. "Look, guys. I don't want to sound crazy. I really don't. But isn't it worth just maybe putting a ghost as a possibility?"
"I don't know Kim. I've done a bit of research into ghosts and I haven't found any credible evidence of their existence." Billy replied.
"If someone told you a few years ago, that aliens existed. Would you believe it?" Kimberly asked her friend.
"Well, in total honesty. I have always believed that some form of alien did exist. Our universe is simply too vast for other lifeforms to not exist."
"So there you go. It isn't that crazy to believe that ghosts also exist. I mean, they live in a different dimension right?"
Billy nodded his head. "I guess you're right. It could be a possibility. I cannot rule it out for certain."
"There you go then." Kimberly said, waving her hands up in the air.
"Look, if you believe in it, regardless of what I or Billy believe, we should think of it as a possiblity." Jason said, smiling as Kimberly placed her hand on top of his. Thankful that her friends were supporting her crazy idea. "Afterall, we've seen some crazy shit in the last year or so."
"Yeah, definitely." Kimberly replied.
"How do we go about this though. We can't see ghosts unless they want us to see them right?" Jason said.
"Yes, you are correct. However, I am aware that ghosts can purportedly be captured on camera, or by using thermal imaging or by using electronic voice phenomenon." Billy stated.
"What the hell is that?" Jason asked.
"Where you basically use a tape recorder to ask questions and supposedly, a ghost answers back and you can hear it on the recording."
"Well, has anyone got a tape recorder?" Kimberly asked with a laugh.
Billy, to her surprise, nodded his head and went over to his backpack from which he withdrew a tape recorder.
Kimberly jumped to her feet and walked over to him. "Let's go try it. We should go downstairs to the kitchen where it happened."
"Are you sure?" He asked her.
"Please. For me."
Billy nodded his head and looked at Jason.
"Yeah let's do it."
The rangers didn't hesitate and exited their bedroom, noticing how cold it was in the hallway.
"Shall we?" Kimberly pointed at the girls bedroom door.
"No, let's leave them to it. I'm sure they'll be okay." Jason replied.
"Yes, and the more people there are. The more noise we'll make. Therefor rendering the recordings as obsolete." Billy replied.
The rangers moved to the stairs and slowly descended downstairs to where the incident took place.
"I'm going to turn on the recorder. Don't say anything guys, we need to keep the recordings as accurate as possible. I shall ask the questions and we shall see if we receive a response." Billy whispered as they landed on the first floor.
Jason and Kimberly nodded their heads and the rangers slowly inched forward.
Billy turned on the rape recorder and pressed the record button. "Hello. My name is Billy and these are my friends, Jason and Kimberly. We are not here to hurt you in any way. But we would like a sign to confirm your existence, or for you to tell us that you are here with us." The blue ranger spoke in a clear, calm voice.
There was absolute silence. Billy waited a few moments in order to get a response and they then slowly made their way towards the kitchen, guided by the moonlight seeping in through the large windows surrounding the cabin and the light still on in the kitchen.
Kimberly gripped onto Jason's arm, bedsides herself with worry and fear. She clung onto him tightly as they neared the kitchen. The exactly location where a few minutes ago, she had a harrowing experience.
"I repeat. We are not here to harm you. What is your name?" Billy asked.
No response.
The rangers all felt odd. Their bodies were covered in goosebumps and their skin prickled with the chilling cold that was infiltrating the cabin. They were all feeling dread, even Billy who didn't believe that this thing could be a ghost.
"You know guys, it's highly unlikely that we will find anything." Billy whispered.
"I know. But let's keep trying." Kimberly responded in a barely audible whisper.
Billy nodded his head and the rangers slowly made their way into the kitchen. The air felt thicker than the rest of the first floor. It was also colder.
Kimberly moved closer to Jason, her fingernails digging into his biceps. Whether he was scared too or he didn't want Kimberly to feel scared, he didn't protest. Billy even slowed down and moved closer to Jason as they progressed in to the kitchen, towards the broken mug on the floor.
"Was it you that was in here with my friend earlier? You sure made an expression on her. The dilemma here is that I don't believe it was a supernatural being. Would you care to change my mind?" It took a lot of courage for Billy to say these words. He wasn't convinced it was a ghost, but he was just as scared as Kimberly and Jason who were inches behind him.
They didn't like this. They were waiting for a response but they all felt really uneasy. Almost like someone had told them that the world was going to end in the next few minutes.
" Jason."
The voice coming from Jason's communicator made them all jump. But once they gathered themselves, they recognised the cry for help.
Zack
As soon as the black ranger stepped out into the hallway and closed the bedroom door behind him, he immediately felt the temprature drop. He wasn't usually the one to believe in anything supernatural, but his experiences as a ranger definitely proved him wrong. Would a ghost be taking it too far though?
He took a few steps forward, his feet feeling the very cool wooden carpet, he was glad when he stepped on the soft, almost warm rug in front of the girls bedroom.
Knock knock knock
"Trini. Are you in there?"
No answer.
Knock knock knock
"Girl, you there?" He called out again.
"Yeah, sorry Zack. I just had a shower. You can come in though."
Zack was relieved to hear his friend's voice. He placed his hand on the door handle and gently opened the door, checking to see if it was appropriate to come in.
He saw Trini sat on the edge of her bed, with her bath robe wrapped around her.
"Hey Zack. Is everything okay?" The yellow ranger asked him.
Zack moved inside the room and closed the door behind him.
"I don't know Trini. We think maybe, Rita is up to something." He replied.
"Do you think so? It certainly explains some of the shit that's been happening today."
Zack nodded his head in agreement, taking a few steps further towards his friend. He found it odd that she used a curse word though.
"Is is cold in here or is it just because I've had a shower." She asked.
"No, it's freezing. Almost like we're in a refrigerator." Zack replied, copying Trini and hugging himself to try and warm up. It was getting colder.
"Zack, I'm scared."
Zack looked over at Trini who was shaking and her teeth were chattering together from her facial muscles trying to warm up.
"And cold. Come here." She asked him.
Zack did as he was told and went to sit next to his close friend, placing an arm around her to try and share body heat.
"Yeah, it's awful in here." Zack said, his teeth beginning to chatter too. "Hurry up and get dressed and we can go back our room. It's much warmer in there."
Trini leaned onto Zack and pushed herself closer to him. "I want to stay in here." She mumbled.
"What! Why would you want to stay in here? It's freezing." Zack peered down at his friend in disbelief. "And dangerous. We don't know what's going on."
Trini stayed quiet. She was as still as a statue now, just holding Zack's arm. She didn't say a word for a moment before she spoke again. Her voice somewhat altered.
"Oh but I do know what's going on."
"Okay, go on. Give us your theory then." Zack said. Trying to take a look at his friends face which was turned away. She sounded….. Different.
Trini was again quiet once more.
Zack didn't feel right. He didn't feel safe. He felt almost cornered in here. He desparetely wanted Trini to get dressed and to get out of here as soon as possible.
"Trini, come on now girl. You need to get changed and we need to go rendezvous with the others."
Trini hesitantly let go of Zack's arm and grabbed the clothes that were now on the bed beside her. "You'll have to close your eyes now mister."
Zack quickly closed his eyes and turned away from her. He didn't even wait a minute until he felt Trini touch his forearm.
"Hey stop playing. We better hurry." He told her, his eyes still firmly closed.
"We don't need to hurry. You can open your eyes now."
Zack didn't totally understand that but he opened his eyes anyway. But when he turned around he was shocked at what he saw.
Trini was stood in front of him with her gown open, revealing a very nice set of yellow bra and panties.
"Hey, what's this about?" He asked her, his mind totally blown by her actions.
Trini slowly moved towards him, an absolute glimmer in her eyes which shone like the star of bethlehem, laden with passion, a look that Zack had never once seen on this usually shy girl. She didn't hesitate and slowly pulled herself onto his lap.
"Trini……. What are you doing?" Zack implored.
"I love hanging out with the guys. But how many times have you and me had privacy?" She whispered into his ear. "My parents haven't ever allowed me to be alone with a boy. We need to make most of this opportunity."
Her warm, fragrant breath laced with minty toothpaste was sending Zack into a unthinkable, unprecedented stupor.
He wasn't expecting what came next. Zack closed his eyes for literally just a second, and he felt Trini's lips invade his own. He would be lying to himself if he said he was fighting it, truth be told, he had long waited to experience how this would feel. Yes Trini was his friend, but there had always been something more there between them.
He kissed her back. When she slowly, lust fully slipped her tongue into his mouth and entwined it around his tongue, Zack even though he was enjoying this, he couldn't prevent the feeling of uneasiness creep into his mind.
This wasn't like the Trini that he knew and adored. She was naturally shy, reserved and never one to make advances or act in a promiscuous manner.
His mind travelled back to what Kimberly said earlier. She saw Jason downstairs in the kitchen, in the nude and coming on to her. The same thing was happening here. But then Jason disappeared as soon she called him out on it.
"Umm Trini." Zack fought with all his might to push her away slightly and open his eyes. She was still straddling him. "What's going on. Why are you behaving like this?"
Trini cocked her head and frowned. "Behaving like what? Don't tell me you have never wanted this."
"The Trini that I know would never do this." Zack was frozen with fear. The coldness had not ceased and he was beginning to feel that this wasn't Trini in his lap. "Who are you! What are you?" He demanded.
This did the trick. What previously was a very sultry and confident demeanour changed with the blink of an eye. Trini's face was no longer smiling. It was no longer gazing at Zack with lust filled eyes. Trini, or whoever this was imposing as Zack's lifelong friend, was now glaring at Zack with an evilness that wasn't at all like Trini. The eyes growing darker and darker with each passing second.
"You do not need to know who I am. What you need to know is that I shall take this girl from you and you are powerless to do anything about it!"
The growling response frightened Zack more than any other time he had faced a monster. "Whatever Rita put you up to, we shall conquer it like we have done, many times before." He shouted back, trying to remain calm.
"Who is this Rita that you all keep mentioning?" Trini's voice had now changed. It was no longer the sweet, caring voice that Zack had long known. It was now a growl, and a masculine one at that. "I have no masters."
"Well, who are you then?" Zack said, terrified to the core of his soul. He pushed off the thing that was in his lap and stood up.
"As I have said before. You need not to know. All you require is the wisdom that many others bow before me. And so shall you and your friends."
"No way. We haven't ever bowed down to anyone before and we ain't gonna start now."
"You will once I take your friend."
At those words, Zack jumped at the being in front of him, posing as Trini and attempted to push it down to the floor. However, he was overpowered easily and found himself on the floor instead with this beast on top of him, pinning him down with superhuman strength.
"Jason, guys. I'm here. This thing has Trini!" Zack shouted into the wooden flooring on which his face was being crushed against.
"Your friends cannot hear you. I shall destroy you, then I shall destroy your friends and then keep this pretty body for myself since you don't want it." It growled, jumping on top of Zack. It certainly wasn't Trini because this thing weighed an absolute tonne.
Zack tried as hard as he could to shake off this thing on top of him, but he couldn't. He tried to call out for his friends again, but there was no response.
"This is the end of the line for you Zachary."
Zack saw the communicator on his wrist and quickly tapped a button. "Jason, Jason!" Zack cried out, fighting to keep control of his communicator.
"Come to the girl's room now, quickly. I need help. And be careful!" He shouted.
" Zack, what's going on. Are you okay?"
"No, I'm not okay. And neither is Trini. Com-"
Zack's words were cut short as he watched Trini's hand smash into his wrist, breaking the communicator and nearly breaking his bones in the process.
The rangers.
"Zack. Unlock the door." Jason's voice called out from the other side. Jason didn't know that the door hadn't been locked, it was being controlled by something else entirely.
Trini, or whatever was posing as her, was smiling widely. Looking at Zack like he was a thanksgiving dinner. Zack couldn't move at all. This thing had so much power and weight behind it that it made it impossible for Zack to move. He stared into the eyes he knew so well, and could still see a small sliver of Trini looking back at him.
Jason kicked the door as hard as he could with a front kick, splitting it in two and hesitated for a second as he saw Trini on top of Zack.
Jason, Kimberly and Billy ran in to the room to take her off him but as soon as they entered the room. An invisible force threw them right across the room, hitting a wall with a thud. They didn't even have time to comprehend the spine tingling sense of dread they were feeling.
Dazed and slightly confused, Jason was the first one to his feet and out of the corner of his blurred eyes he saw Trini take out some sort of blade from her pocket. He had to act fast.
Act fast he did. The red ranger darted towards Zack and Trini and managed to shoulder tackle Trini, allowing Zack to get free and stand up.
Zack's knees were trembling. His voice had deserted him and so had his rationality. His best friend, Trini was just about to stab him! His brain was totally totally fried. He watched on as Billy and Kimberly helped Jason in pinning down Trini, or whatever the hell it was. It wasn't Trini in his mind. But his heart couldn't help but feel that it was Trini. His mind was giving up now. He couldn't think any longer.
"Kim, take off those bed sheets. We need to tie her up." Jason shouted.
"Are you sure?" Kimberly asked him, obviously stunned by her leader's request.
"Yes I'm sure." Jason replied, using all his energy and power to pin down the yellow ranger who was still managing to swing Jason and Billy around on the floor.
Kimberly let go of Trini's arms once Billy had control of them and ran to the beds, taking off the duvet covers and the sheets.
"Zack, we could do with some help bro." Jason shouted behind him at Zack, landing down with a thud repeatedly as Trini struggled underneath him.
Zack snapped out of his daze upon hearing his friend's call for help and joined his friends in attempting to control Trini.
Kimberly didn't take long and knelt down on the floor with the bedsheets in her arms.
"Billy, Zack, you make sure you keep control of her arms. Me and Kim will tie up her legs." Jason Ordered.
"Okay bro." Zack said.
"We're ready." Billy replied, panting quickly.
"Guys, what's going on."
Jason stopped in his tracks as soon as Kimberly handed him the bedsheet. They all looked up at Trini's face. She had stopped struggling and was looking at her friends, her eyes not only showing intense fear, but also tears.
"What are you doing to me?" she asked.
"Trini. Is that you?" Zack asked, his heart ripping in to two pieces.
"Of course it's me. Why are you hurting me?" She asked him.
"I'm not hurting you. Something was happening to you."
" ZACK. NO!"
Zack let go of Trini's arm and moved closer to her face to wipe the tears away from her eyes. However, he was met with a ferocious punch that sent him down onto the floor.
Trini raised her hand and sent the rest of the rangers flying backwards into the walls, allowing her to stand up.
"Hahahaha." She let out the most unearthly, inhuman laughter that certainly didn't belong to Trini. "Your friend is no longer with us. I'm afraid to inform you that you will never get her back."
"Guys. I think we better morph." Jason said to the rest of the team who all nodded in response.
" Mastodon!"
"Pterodactyl!"
"Triceratops!"
"Tyrannosaurus!"
The fully morphed rangers landed in the room feeling completely re-energised.
"I think you're wrong about that!" Jason shouted.
"Huh. What's going on here. What are you doing? Who are you? What are you?" the creature demanded.
The rangers ignored what Trini was saying and charged towards her, easily taking her to the ground. They grabbed the bedsheets and tied them around Trini's ankles, legs, arms and wrists. She tried with all her might to break free, but the rangers made sure the knots were tight. Even for a supernatural being.
Trini posed no threat for the time being so Jason took this opportunity to contact the command center.
"Zordon. We have Trini, and well its not her. Is it a monster or what? What's going on?"
"Jason, we are reading that it is indeed Trini. It is no alien or monster, but we can see that something is inside her. Using her body for its purposes."
"Well, what exactly is it Zordon?" Kimberly asked.
"I am not too sure Kimberly. It is something I have never encountered before. I am not equipped with the knowledge to fully deal with this, I do however, believe it is what you call, a supernatural entity." Zordon replied.
"You mean it's a ghost?" Zack asked.
"It's not a ghost rangers. It's something much more powerful. The computer is telling me that it's something called a demon. What's that?" Alpha said.
"Oh hell no. A demon? Seriously?" Zack looked around at his friend ludicrously.
"How do we defeat it?" Jason asked.
"I am not sure rangers. Please allow us some time to find this information for you." Zordon explained to his warriors.
"In the meantime, rangers, I know how to help you some way. As I scanned the computers and found what this demon thing is, it also found a way to keep this beast at bay." Alpha said through the communicators, giving each ranger some hope. "What you have to do is, draw a circle of salt around the demon and it will not be able to exit the salt circle. This method was used with great success thousands of years ago by bhuddists, wiccans and other ancient religions."
"I guess your salt is gonna come in handy after all." Kimberly said to Zack.
"Right. Thanks Alpha. We'll do the best we can. Jason over and out" Jason pressed a button ending their connection with the command center
"Don't you dare bring that salt near me."
The rangers turned around and for the first time, they saw fear in the face of the demon possessing Trini.
"Because if you do, I WILL get free, and I will peel the flesh off your bones and devour your souls."
"Zack, go get the salt. We'll get this demon into position." Jason said.
"Right." Zack said, exiting the room to get the salt.
"Kim, grab that chair behind you. We'll tie the demon to the chair and draw the circle around it." Jason explained.
"I'm sorry I didn't believe you Kim." Billy added.
"Well, in all honesty, I was wrong. It's not exactly a ghost."
"A ghost? Me? All the ghosts on this planet would be no match for me. You have no idea the power I possess." The demon snarled.
Without another moment of respite, the demon tore the bedsheets by some invisible force, gaining a moment of freedom.
"Quickly." Jason shouted, lunging at the demon possessing his friend and managing to tackle it to the ground with Billy's help.
Kimberly quickly grabbed the chair in front of the dresser and placed it into the middle of the room and then went to assist the red and blue rangers to drag the body of Trini into the chair.
"Quick Zack, use the salt to draw a circle around us. Now." Jason shouted at Zack who had just arrived back upstairs.
Zack hurriedly opened the large box of salt he bought earlier, much to Trini's annoyance. He glanced back up at the face he loved so dearly and thought about how happy she would be that she let him buy the salt. With that thought in his mind, the black ranger drew a circle around the demon and the rest of the rangers, who were pinning poor Trini's possessed body to the chair, trying to tie her to the it using what was left of the bedsheets.
"You cannot do this to me! You think this will stop me? Your friend Trini, she's inside here you know. She's suffering, and I won't let go of her so easily. There's no way you can stop me!" The demon screamed.
"It's done." Zack said.
The rangers glanced around and saw the the circle of salt was complete, they then let go of the demon to see what would happen.
The rangers stood back and stepped out of the circle, not taking their eyes off the demon, who was struggling against the chair, trying to break free. All of the power that it had showcased earlier, had now abandoned it.
" Aaaargh!" the demon shouted, its voice much lighter from earlier, sounding almost human now. Almost like Trini. "I do not want to be in here!"
"Well tough. Because you're going to stay in here until we get you out and get our friend back." Jason snapped at the demon.
"You won't get her back. And when I get free from here. I will devour-"
"Yes. You'll devour our souls. We've heard it a million times already." Zack replied, moving away with the rangers to exit the room.
The rangers moved to the corridor and de-morphed.
"Guys, maybe we shouldn't argue with it." Kimberly said, adjusting her hair after being free from the helmet.
"Yeah. I guess you're right. We've seen enough horror movies to know not to fuck with these things." Jason replied.
"What are we going to do though? We need to get it out and save Trini." Zack said.
"Billy, do you know anything about demons?" Jason asked, the rangers all turning to look at the blue ranger.
"Well, I know that demons are malevolent supernatural beings who are the spawn of Satan. There's many different types of demons and they are come equipped with various traits and powers. I just never believe they existed." Billy replied.
"Well there's one possessing our Trini and we need to find a way to defeat it." Jason said.
"I'm afraid I don't know much about this matter. We may have to wait to see if Zordon and Alpha can conjure something up." Billy replied.
"My mom always taught me to use the Lords prayer in situations dealing with evil." Zack said in a quiet tone, ushering everyone closer to the guy's bedroom and away from the reaches of the demon.
"Which one is that?" Kimberly asked.
"You know, our father who art in heaven. That one. I think the Saint Michael prayer will also be good."
"Okay yeah. Do you think we need to do an exorcism?" she asked the black ranger.
"I don't know. I know that prayers like these ones are good against ghosts and demons. I just never believed I would ever need to use them. I never believed these things existed."
"Well they do exist bro." Jason placed a hand on his friends shoulder. "Do you know these prayers?"
Zack nodded his head. "My parents taught me when I was young. You know how religious they are."
"I do. Shall we try it?" Kimberly inquired.
"The demon can't leave the salt circle right?" Jason questioned.
"Affirmative." Billy answered.
"I guess we should give it a go then. There's no harm in trying."
The rangers all agreed and moved towards the girls bedroom. Zack was scared. He never tried this before and that was his friend in there. His Trini. What if this hurt her. What if this did bad to her instead of good. What then. His parents were very loyal Christians and they brought up their son with the same beliefs. But this was certainly a test of those beliefs.
As the rangers moved into the room, the now familiar chill they felt crawl up their spine, gave them some inspiration. Seeing Trini tied a chair, they had to help her in any way possible.
Zack glanced at Jason who nodded his head once, giving him the answer he was looking for. The black ranger stood just outside of the salt circle and looked at the demon possessing Trini.
"Nice to see you again. I was getting all lonely in here with just Trini to keep me company."
"Our father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name."
The demon sniggered at Zack with a cocky, arrogant smile
"Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread." Zack continued, ignoring the demons attempts of distracting him. "And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us."
The demon began to stir. Quiet groans coming from inside the salt circle. It was working.
"And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen."
Zack looked up expectedly, hoping, to see Trini back to normal.
"It. Will. Take. More than that to defeat me, human!" The demon jeered breathlessly, shaking in the chair.
Zack turned to his teammates and saw Jason nod his head once more, insinuating that Zack carry on with the next prayer.
Zack looked ahead at him at Trini inside the salt circle. He had to try his best to free his best friend from this demon's clutches.
"Saint Michael the archangel, defend us in battle."
The demon grimaced upon hearing Zack confidently, almost aggressively, reciting the prayer.
"Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray."
"Pray all you want. I am here to stay." The demon stuttered.
"And do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen." Zack finished the prayer and looked at the demon expectedly.
The demon was shaking in the chair, still inside of Trini but vibrating violently. The rangers were sure this had to be it. Sweat was beginning to pour down Trini's face as the demon fought to stay where it was.
Zalk couldn't wait, he stepped into the circle before the rangers shouted at him to not do so. He put his hand into his shirt and took out a necklace which carried a small silver Cross, a cross which he placed onto Trini's forehead, the beads of sweat gliding down her face.
"Be gone evil spirit. I cast you out. Jesus Christ casts you out. God himself casts you out!" He screamed.
"Zack. No!" Jason shouted.
But it was too late. The demon broke out of the chair and lunged at the black ranger, headbutting him right in the face, sending him falling to the floor clutching his bloody nose.
The rest of the rangers ran towards the circle but were too late. Trini's mouth opened and some form of dark red mist billowed out. They heard an evil cackle followed by some words, "I am not yet finished with you. I will be back." The demon's ominous warning was heard just as the mysterious crimson coloured smoke left the circle of salt, slid under the door and out of sight.
Zack sat up and looked at the salt circle which had a small line along it where it had been brushed away, most likely by him entering the circle.
The rangers helped him up whilst he apologised to them and they quickly moved to check up on Trini who was now laid inside the circle, on the floor.
"Trini, is it you. Are you here?" Zack asked her, lifting her up into his arms.
"Be careful bro. We don't know if it's her yet." Jason said.
"Dude, you saw that shit that left her body. I'd bet my life that it was the demon." Zack countered.
"You're probably right bro, but just be careful."
"Zack?"
The rangers took a quick breath of air and looked at Trini, all of them moving closer to her.
"Hey Trini. Are you okay?" Zack asked the yellow ranger.
"I don't know. What happened?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"It's a long story. Come on, get into bed and we'll tell you."
Zack lifted up the yellow ranger when she nodded her head and walked over to her bed, gently setting her down, the rest of the rangers following them.
Trini looked around at the destroyed room and her friends in confusion, really dumbfounded. The last thing she remembered was looking into a mirror and seeing the reflection of a dark, shadowy figure stood behind her.
It all made sense once her friends explained what had happened. She instantly believed what they were saying.
Her family was Vietnamese, and they certainly believed in ghosts. Trini was brought up with tales about folklore and various ghosts and spirits, so she had no doubt in her mind that alpha was correct that this thing was a demon.
The part that scared her was, the fact that she had been been possessed. This made her uncomfortable. This made her scared. If this demon was powerful enough to possess her, what more was it capable of?
"What do we do to defeat it? It could come back." Trini asked her friends, looking up at them all sitting around her bed whilst Zack stroked her beautiful long hair, glad to finally get his friend back.
"Well, Zack read a few prayers that impacted the demon, and Alpha is working on a way to defeat it as we speak." Jason replied.
Trini shuddered at the thought of the demon being anywhere near her again. The dream that she had a few days ago, now coming back and hitting her like a nasty punch from a heavyweight boxer.
When she saw the shadowy figure of the demon in the mirror, the first thing she was was a pair of glowing red eyes. Red eyes that looked so familiar. Red eyes that she saw in her nightmare the night before they came to this cabin.
"Guys, I'm scared. Don't leave me. Please!" Trini pleaded with her friends. Her mind once again drifting back to her nightmare. The very nightmare in which her friends also disappeared.
"Of course, we're not going to leave you Trini." Kimberly was the first to respond.
"I think we need to all stick together, no matter what." Jason looked around at his friends. "We don't know what this thing is capable of. We've never faced anything like it."
"Hence why it is imperative we do not go wandering off alone. We need to always stick together to ensure this supernatural being doesn't use our bodies as vessels for its evil ventures." Billy added.
As it was pretty late, the rangers decided to go to the boy's room since it was much larger than the girls.
"How are we going to do this though? There's only three beds." Kimberly asked once everyone got inside the boys' bedroom and closed the door behind them, Jason laying a line of salt in front of the door to stop the demon from entering. But Kimberly wasn't wrong. There were only three XL twin beds in the boy's bedroom. But it was still better than the girl's bedroom which contained only two normal sized twin beds.
"You guys get some sleep, I'll take watch." Jason told his friends who were about to protest his decision. "I'll be fine, don't worry about me. I'm not sleepy anyway." He said with a wave of his hand. "You can take my bed if you like Kim." He told the pink ranger who hesitantly nodded.
"And Trini can take mine, I'll stay up with you and keep watch." Zack said, still holding the evidently shocked and shaken yellow ranger, close to his chest.
"Nah, you've been through a lot today too bro, you need as much sleep as any of us." Jason retorted.
"Are you sure?" The black ranger asked his best friend who answered him with an assured nod of his head.
The rangers contacted Zordon one last time before they retired for the night. The wise old sage told the rangers that he and Alpha 5 were still working on a way to defeat the demon. He assured the rangers that he would find a solution and told them to rest, he and Alpha would be keeping an eye on them through the viewing globe.
Trini couldn't face being alone, so as each ranger climbed into bed, Trini clung on to Zack as though he was the very oxygen she required to breathe. The black ranger didn't protest, so he kept her close to his chest as she closed her eyes attempting to forget about the ordeal she went through just a couple of hours ago.
"Are you sure you're going to be alright down there?" Kimberly asked Jason, handing him a spare pillow from the bed she was getting comfortable in.
"Yeah. Don't worry about me." The red ranger replied, sending his teammate a reassuring smile. "You get some sleep."
Kimberly sat up on her elbows and slanted her head sideways and pursed her lips. "And what about you. Don't you need sleep?" She argued quietly, her voice just reaching Jason's ears.
"I do, but not right now." Jason gave her another little smile and looked around at the rest of the rangers laid in bed, their eyes closed and their chests rising and falling gently. "I wouldn't be able to sleep unless I knew for sure you were safe, you were all safe."
Kimberly smiled. She knew what he was going to say before he said it. He had always been their group's leader, even before they became power rangers. He had always looked after them all like a parent, a protector. And now as a ranger, he was even more resolute. He wasn't going to change his mind, but she went on anyway.
"Shall we do a swap after a few hours? I wake up and take over watch?" She asked him, knowing fully well he would never accept.
"Hell no. Forget about me. Go get some sleep." Jason replied, matching the smile on Kimberly's face.
Kimberly nodded and looked over at Billy who appeared to be on the verge of sleeping and over at Trini and Zack who were cuddled up on Zack's bed, fast asleep. The pink ranger placed her head on the pillow which smelt quite a lot like her leader, especially with a hint of his comfortingly familiar aftershave.
"You should lay down too though. I'm sure you can keep an ear out and be comfortable at the same time." She mumbled.
For once, Jason did as he was told. He leaned backwards into the pillow behind him and pulled the blanket over his lower body.
"See, it wasn't that difficult was it." Kimberly told him, sticking out a hand from the duvet and leaving it hanging down the side of the bed, waiting for him to hold it.
Jason looked up at her and slowly reached out and took her hand into his. Before they knew it, Kimberly had joined the rest of the team into a deep, desparetly required sleep.
Jason fought as hard as he could to not follow suit. He felt Kimberly's grip loosen on his hand and tried with all his might to not let it slip away. There weren't many moments like this that he had with Kimberly. If he wasn't such a coward, he would open up and tell her how he really felt. He loved all of his fellow rangers, loved them like they were family. But there was a tiny little place in his heart that was reserved just for the pink ranger. He didn't dare mention it though. She had referred to him as a brother way too many times. But if that's what it took for her to be close to him, then so be it. He would much rather be close to her in that capacity than not close to her at all.
The red ranger was interrupted from his deep, but sleepy thoughts by something he saw in front of him. He peered over at the bedroom door and just beyond the line of salt, he saw the light outside in the hallway, dancing around as though someone was out there moving in front of it. He narrowed his eyes and focused on the tiny gap underneath the door and to his shock, he saw the shadow of a pair of feet stood in front of it! It had to be the demon! It wasn't human because he could see that the toes were claw-like, animalistic.
He felt goosebumps pop out all over his body, this rarely ever happened to him. Not even when fighting Rita's monsters or when competing in karate tournaments.
Jason barely noticed that he let go of Kim's hand and shifted down the floor towards the door. He leaned down even further, pressing his head against the floor and peered out underneath the door.
The shadowy footsteps shuffled around slightly before disappearing out of sight without a sound.
The leader of the power rangers quickly moved towards the door to inspect the line of salt around it. It was still intact, that explained why the demon just stood there, not able to enter the room.
This demon wasn't going to leave them alone. They had to find a way to get rid of it. Billy didn't have his computer or he would've done some research by now. This had to happen whilst they were away from home and trying to relax on a weekend away.
"Hey, is everything okay?"
Kimberly's gentle whisper almost made Jason jump right out of his skin. He turned around and crawled back towards her and the make-shift bed on the floor.
"Yeah, I think I saw something outside the door. But it's disappeared."
"You think it was the demon?" Kimberly asked him. Sitting up onto her elbows.
"It had to be. All the doors are locked and it didn't look human." Jason answered.
"Oh man. The salt stopped it from coming in though, right?"
Jason nodded his head but stopped midway. Something deeply unsettling crept into his mind.
"Where's the rest of the salt." He asked Kimberly who was now fully sat up, leaning against the headboard.
"We ran out, so we scooped up what was left in our bedroom and we put it back in the box. There's not much left but It's over there by the trash can. Why?"
Jason quickly ran to the trash can and picked up the box of salt, waking up Zack and Billy in the process. He ignored his friend's questions and ran to the windows as quickly as he could and began to sprinkle salt in front of them.
Too late.
The windows burst open and in charged a large, intimidating but, glorious beast. For the first time, the demon was showing the rangers his true form. His body was most similar to a humans body. Tall, lean and toned where every muscle could be seen popping out. He had the head of a leopard and a pair of magnificent wings but dissimilar to a Griffin, that he used to fly into the room and stand up tall in the middle, looking at the rangers. The rangers were shocked, they had seen monsters before, but this was slightly different. Truth be told, it was rather magnificent.
Jason plucked up the courage and faced the demon. "Why can't you just leave us alone?"
"You know, It's not usually my interest to destroy humans." The demon spoke in a calm manner. Much calmer than when he possessed Trini earlier. "I usually go around helping people fall in love. But you fought off my charms and you attacked me first. I have encountered knights, Kings and Queens and the most courageous warriors in earth. But I have never come across beings such as yourselves. I don't know what you are, but, as a Prince of hell, I cannot let you go unpunished."
"We didn't attack you first. You were the one following us around and doing weird shit to scare us." Jason countered.
"What do you expect? I am a demon." The powerful creature replied with an evil grin on his cat-like face. "But you were the ones who called me out. Asked me to show myself. All I wanted to do, was pair you together." The demon pointed to Zack and Trini on his right, using his bizzare human-leopard hands to point at Trini and using one of his wings to point at Zack. He then did the same on the other side, pointing at Jason and then at Kimberly. "But you didn't succumb or just run away like other humans. You attacked me. You came for me and challenged me. You expect a Prince of hell to just let it go. Not fight back?"
"Wait. Why were you trying to pair us together?" Zack asked the demon.
The demon rolled his feline eyes and shook his head. "What you humans do, is dance around and not show your true feelings to one another. I know what is in all of your hearts. I know what deepest your desires are. You get on my nerves by not doing something about it."
"So your idea of doing something about it, is to get naked and try to have sex with us?" Jason was getting annoyed now.
"Well, of course. That's what you truly want and I get something out of it too." The demon sneered at the rangers, looking at them all menacingly but with a look of humour, even at Trini who was cowering behind Zack. "But you fought my advances and attacked me. It is now time for you to pay the price." His face no longer showing any humour.
The rangers didn't know what to expect but the demon stretched out his arms and sent Jason and Kimberly flying against the wall next to the beds, pinning them there with some unseen force. "That's the first pair of lovebirds out of the way. You know, you two had great potential. You have no idea what goes on in each others heads. I won't say it out loud though, it's pretty embarrassing, even by my standards." The demon chuckled, leaving the two rangers blushing as they tried to get away from the wall, but it was no good. They couldn't move a muscle.
"Release my friends you hideous creature." Billy cried, raising his fist and throwing it at the demon.
"Aah yes, Billy, isn't it?" The demon stopped Billy's attempted punch with a nod of his head, halting Billy's hand in the air. "It's nice that your friends know that you like other men, I always thought God was a bit harsh on Sodom and Gomorrah. I don't really mind homosexuals. But you should have told Jason the truth."
Billy tried to shout but his voice wasn't working. He tried to move but he couldn't. Please don't say it the blue ranger thought.
"No, I will say it. Jason my friend." The demon turned his head and glanced at Jason who was glued to the wall. "Billy also has some really naughty thoughts about you. Not as naughty as Kimberly mind you, but still, they're pretty tasty."
"Our father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread."
The demon simply shook his head at Zack who was reciting the prayer. "Not this time my young friend. You see, your prayers are not powerful enough for me when I'm using my true form." The demon waved at Trini who desperately tried to hide behind Zack. She was usually always one of the bravest rangers, but her experience earlier on still had her shook.
"You two should have just stopped lying to yourselves and fucked already. It's a shame now that I have to kill you both."
The demon was getting closer and closer to Zack and Trini. Billy, Jason and Kimberly were still being controlled by the demon and couldn't do anything to help their friends. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn't move a muscle. They watched on helplessly as the demon caught up to them.
"You're not going to touch her!" Zack said through gritted teeth, standing firmly in front of Trini. "And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us."
"Oh stop it already." The demon scoffed, using a hand to easily swat Zack away, sending him crashing to the floor and binding him to it.
"I don't want to touch her. I'm just going to borrow her beautiful body to destroy you with. It will be a beautiful sight." The demon watched Trini jump off the bed, attempting to desparately move away from him, a look of horror plastered on her face. "Oh don't worry dear, I won't kill you. I'll let you live. You might have trouble living your life knowing your friends died by your own hands, but you'll get over it eventually."
Trini skipped around the bed and made a run for the exit. The demon disappeared for a brief second and astonishingly reappeared in front of her, between her and the door.
"You have nothing to worry about." The demon cackled, disappearing once again.
Jason and Kimberly fell to the floor, Billy almost fell himself but supported his body weight just in time and Zack could finally peel himself off from the floor and stand up again.
"Hey, what happened. Is he gone?" Kimberly asked nobody in particular, moving steadily towards Trini who had her back turned against them.
"It appears so, his control over us has diminished." Billy replied.
"Think again."
Trini turned around and the rangers instantly knew it wasn't their friend that was looking at them. Her eyes were a deep, dark red and her body looked almost like it was glowing.
The demon waved his hands once again and all four rangers were sent flying into the back wall and once again, unable to move.
"I don't know which one I'll start with, but I'll make sure it's a nice, slow death." The demon said menacingly.
He slowly walked closer to the rangers. "Maybe I should start with the one she cares about most. I believe your name is Zack right?" the demon asked the black ranger. "Oh, of course. You can't talk. Well, no worry, you won't be able to breathe in a moment."
The demon raised his arm up in the air to do only god knew what to Zack but a brilliant flash of light entered the room and prevented the demon from doing whatever it was going to do.
The demon staggered backwards and attempted to look through the light to see what it was. As he slowly moved forwards, a large splash of liquid coming from a robotic hand, hit him directly on the face, Trini's face, allowing the rangers to fall down and be relieved from the demons grip once more.
"Quickly rangers. Morph immediately. The power grid and the suits will offer you some protection from this demon's powers." Their loyal ally, Alpha 5 said as he stepped through the light, revealing himself and once again, splashed some liquid onto the demon.
He turned around at the now fully morphed rangers and handed Jason a large sack of salt and the other rangers some vials of the liquid that was in his own robotic hand.
"This is something called holy water. It's supposed to be a weapon against the demon and hurt it." Alpha explained. "Quickly Jason, trap the demon within a circle of salt whilst we hold him down."
Jason quickly moved towards the demon who was now being splashed from various directions by the power rangers throwing holy water on it. Each time the water touched Trini's skin, a hissing sound accompanied a puff of smoke and a roar of pain from her mouth.
Jason took advantage of this, watching the demon go down on to one knee, he quickly made a large circle around the demon using the salt alpha had provided him.
"Aaaargh, stop it." The demon growled, his voice interchanging between a deep, demonic growl and a light voice that belonged to their friend.
Jason finished the circle and stepped backwards, away from the trapped demon.
"We're hurting her." Zack cried.
The black ranger was right. Trini's skin was starting to singe with each splash of holy water.
"That's enough rangers." Alpha replied. "Which one of you is most familiar with Christianity?" he asked.
"Probably Zack." Jason answered.
Zack shook his head and glanced over at Trini. "I don't know that much bro."
"We must act quickly rangers. I have brought with me a piece of a prayer used to expel the demon from a host's body and send it back to the depths of hell. The rituale Romanum, a exorcism I believe it is called. One of you needs to recite it. One of you who is most knowledgable in the religion of Christianity."
"Okay, I'll do it." Zack said quickly. Looking around at his friends who were supporting him.
Alpha 5 handed him a large piece of parchment with a prayer written on it.
"First we need to find out the name of the demon. That is very important Zack." Alpha said.
"How the hell do we do that?" He asked.
"The demon is in a weak state right now. We must capitalise on that and interrogate him. I think we must also unfortunately use a little more holy water whilst you question it."
Zack nodded his head and moved over towards the demon in the middle of the room. The rest of the rangers followed suit.
"Zack, it's me Trini. What's going on?" The familiar, sweet voice of Trini came from the circle.
"It isn't you Trini. I won't fall for that one again." Zack replied.
"What do you mean Zack? Please help me. I'm scared." Trini said again, on her hands and knees inside the circle.
"Oh, I'll help you all right." Zack responded.
The rangers gathered around Zack and the salt circle and with a nod from Alpha, they began to slowly and gently splash the demon with holy water, drawing loud screams from it once more.
"What is your name demon?" Zack commanded, trying to ignore the goosebumps forming on his body behind his ranger suit.
"I
Will
not
tell
you."
The demon struggled to get the words out.
"In the name of Jesus Christ, in the name of our Lord, what is your name, vile demon." Zack asked again, fighting the fear of looking into Trini's eyes and not seeing his best friend, but something else residing within her.
The rangers and alpha splashed Holy water once more on the body of the yellow ranger, drawing out another shriek of pain.
"WHAT IS YOUR NAME!" Zack repeated.
"I am the great Arch-Prince of Hell. I am the one who has legions of demons under my command. I am no mere demon!" the supernatural entity growled.
"With the power of Jesus Christ, With the power of God himself, I command you to TELL ME YOUR NAME!" Zack shouted.
"Aaargh." The demon reacted once more to holy water being splashed upon him. "I AM ONE OF LUCIFER'S FAVOURITE DEMONS. I AM THE DEMON THAT STOOD WITH KING SOLOMON HIMSELF! I AM THE GREAT SYTRI!" The demon finally revealed. It's voice was totally grotesque now. A mixture of Trini, a deep growl, a pathetic mutter and a evil shriek. The demon began to pull at its hair, Trini's hair, and look up at all the rangers with its evil, red eyes, clawing at her skin.
"Well Sytri. Prepare to be cast out." Alpha replied, nodding at Zack.
Zack stared at the prayer in front of him. "It's not even English." He said. Looking over at the other rangers.
"It is in Latin, Zack. You must try your best, and quickly." Alpha replied, throwing another splash of holy water at the demon possessing Trini's body.
Zack wasted little time. "I will now cast you out Sytri." Zack held up the parchment in front of him and began to read it the best he could. "Exorcizamus te, omnis immundus spiritus."
The demon shrieked loudly. "Nooo!" pulling the hair on Trini's head even more violently.
The black ranger ignored the demon and continued with the ancient prayer. "Omnis satanica potestas, omnis incursio infernalis adversarii, omnis congregatio et secta diabolica."
The demon began to shake and groan loudly. He stopped ripping at it's hair and fell to the floor.
"Ergo, draco maledicte."
The rangers looked around at each other through their visors once Trini's mouth opened and the familiar crimson coloured smoke from earlier, started to slowly seep out.
"It's working Zack. Carry on." Jason shouted.
Zack glanced over at Trini and smiled behind his helmet. It WAS working. He had to ignore the loud shrieks coming from Trini and continue with the exorcism prayer.
"Ecclesiam tuam securi tibi facias libertate servire, te rogamus, audi nos!" the black ranger shouted,
Trini let out one last, drawn out piercing howl and crumpled to a heap on the floor, her arms falling past the circle of salt. Zack dropped the piece of paper in his hand and ran as fast as he could towards the yellow ranger, just in time to see a long spiral of colourless, odorless smoke swirl out of her mouth and dart downwards and disappear out of sight.
"Trini. Are you okay?" The brave black ranger asked, being joined by his friends as they encircled the yellow and black ranger.
Alpha lifted up some sort of device and waved it around the room. "Rangers, the demon is apparently not here anymore. I cannot feel its energy on earth." Alpha 5 brought the device close to his face seemingly reading the results it was giving him. "The exorcism appears to have been successful."
Thw rangers high fived each other in joy, even giving alpha some hugs as they celebrated, they celebrated even more once Trini opened her eyes.
"Hey, are you okay?" Zack asked her, kneeling down and placing her hear into his arms.
Trini nodded and stared into the black ranger's visor. "As okay as one could be after being possessed."
"You don't have to worry anymore. It's gone Trini. It's truly gone." Jason added, kneeling down and gently helping up the un morphed yellow ranger.
The rangers all de-morphed and helped Trini onto a bed.
"I must get going now, rangers. We have defeated this demon thing and you all have another day of your weekend away to enjoy."
"I don't think we can enjoy the rest of our little vacation." Kimberly answered.
"Yes, you can Kimberly. You have a whole day to do whatever you please. The danger is gone, so be free and make the most of your day before you come back to the life as power rangers on Monday." Alpha said with a little chuckle before disappearing in a brilliant flash of light.
"He's right you know. We should make the most of our time here." Trini said, breaking the silence after Alpha's exit.
"Yeah. You're right." Jason replied, placing an arm around the yellow ranger's shoulder.
"How are you feeling though?" Zack asked her.
"I feel okay. Trust me, I'd rather have some fun and forget about the shit we've been through today."
Needless to say, all five mighty morphin power rangers were physically, psychologically and spiritually drained. But they all knew that Alpha and Trini were right. They had to make most of the time they had left at the cabin.
Day 3
They checked the time and realised it was the early hours of Sunday morning. So, they decided to team up and tackle the mess that they had made in the cabin. There were broken bits of furniture all over the cabin. The rangers worked hard and cleaned up everything they could and readied themselves for a hefty charge on their credit card payment for the items that were damaged. They were just glad that none of them were damaged.
Trini was finding it difficult, but she was just glad that nothing from her nightmare materialised. Her friends were there in front of her right now. It was around midday and they had teamed up once again to make a nice lunch that they were enjoying in front of the fireplace. After their ordeal just a few hours ago, they were way too tired to go out and explore the wood's surrounding the cabin, a nice quiet day in together would be more than enough to satisfy them.
The demon, Sytri, had mentioned some revealing details regarding them all, but the rangers didn't mention them. Truth be told, each ranger knew they were guilty of having those thoughts, but they also knew not to dwell on them. Nothing changed their connection with one another, this experience only made them stronger. It only made them closer. Nothing would ever put a dent into the bond they all shared.
As their time with this beautiful cabin was over and done with, the rangers collected their belongings and exited the cabin door. They got into Zacks car and drove away, trying their best to put this experience behind them, but focus instead, on the lovely time they shared. The amazing meals they made together, the tiring but beautiful hike they did together, exploring the mountainous regions of california. They couldn't forget the jacuzzi of course. How eye opening was that. Zack and Trini were more comfortable around each other, more than ever before. Jason and Kimberly also found a new level of confidence with each other. Somehow, a demon spilling their secrets, didn't damage their relationship at all, it only intensified their affinity towards each other and Billy, well Billy had come to terms with his sexuality a long time ago, and so did his friends. This wasn't going to affect them at all. A sign of true friends.
As the power rangers exited the woods and left the cabin behind them, they didn't notice the hatch towards the back of the cabin. A hatch that led to a very dark, cold and foreboding basement.
In that basement, was the reason why this cabin was so rife with paranormal activity. It was not just the demon Sytri that they had sensed during their stay here.
An altar stood in the middle of the basement. An altar that was slap bang in the middle of a large pentagram carved into the floor. An altar upon which stood various candles and horrific objects used in witchcraft, including a spell book.
There was nobody there, nobody there to practice witchcraft. That's because the deed had already been done, a long time ago. The cabin was full of demons and ghosts. Some of which were not done with the power rangers just yet.
There you have it. I hope you have enjoyed this ghost story. Or demon story
I've never written horror before, though I am quite a horror geek. Everything paranormal in this story is legitimate. From the real-life demon and its lore, to the prayers and exorcism rites. I love keeping things authentic and true.
I've left a bit of a teaser at the end there. If enough people like this, I may carry on and make a series of these horror stories.
Thanks for reading this. Let me know what you guys and gals think.
RedDragon out.
