Summary/Disclaimer: Time for another chapter of The Dragon and her rook. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum, and Rooster Teeth do.

(Atlas Academy.)

Skyler sat at his computer and continued to look through the documents.

A large part of them was, of course, classified, but his clearance was still intact.

"What are you trying to do, uncle?" Skyler questioned as he leaned back in his chair to start looking through files.

Something that he did notice was an alert that went to EVERY scroll in all of Atlas and Mantle, the voting.

He blinked as he looked at it to see that Jacques Schnee and his uncle were on the list…

Why would his uncle run for council? He didn't need anything like that, he already held 2 of the 5 spots on the council. General of the Military, and headmaster of Alsius Academy.

A powerplay wasn't something he suspected from his uncle, he never wished to have that much power as it would take him away from his duties as general of the military.

he also saw something involving the Ace Ops… why would the best team in all of Atlas, the heart of Atlas Special forces, be in Mantle? It didn't make any sense.

Then he saw the last contestant for the place of council… he sighed as he looked at the portrait of the one woman who was crazy enough to butt heads with the head of the Atlas military.

(With Yang)

"Robyn Hill?" Yang turned the flier over as she brought her scroll down and contacted Skyler.

He had been very quiet besides a message telling her to call him if she needed anything. She was smart enough to guess he wanted to get answers himself and allow her time to get her head together.

"Does the name, 'Robyn Hill', ring a bell for you?" Yang questioned over scroll; she waited a minute before getting a test back from Skyler.

"Graduate, before me and Winter. Leader of a group called 'Happy Huntresses', she's running for council, isn't she?" Yang read through the message as she typed something back.

(With Skyler)

Skyler's scroll buzzed as Yang messaged him, he turned his head from his computer and read his fiancée's newest message.

"She is… and under investigation for theft, you know anything about that?" Skyler turned to the side with nothing short of pure annoyance.

He knew Robyn and his uncle didn't get along, she refused to be a soldier when she graduated and Ironwood saw her views as… antique and outdated, that, along with her charisma and Semblance which allowed her to see the truth if someone talked to her? it put the two at odds. Very dangerous odds.

"Theft of what? we wouldn't be investigating someone for theft, that's the police's job." He typed, it wasn't entirely wrong, there was military police, but they weren't displaced for something so…

"For stealing military equipment or something, all it says on my scroll." Skyler slammed his head down on the desk, knocking over a few things as he sighed with barely concealed frustration.

Theft of military equipment? Seriously? What was his uncle up to that caused Robyn to go from simply protesting the General, to stealing from the very military that defended the kingdom and was responsible for combat outside its borders?

Possibilities both intrigued, and scared Skyler. Something bad had happened in Mantle since he left to go find Yang, and they had Merlot to deal with. This was the LEAST of their problems at the moment, and something he didn't at all wants to deal with.

But he would, his uncle was masterminding something Skyler, one of the most high-ranking officers in the entire military, couldn't fathom. It boggled his mind that his uncle was capable of doing something like this.

Whatever happened in Atlas? Skyler had to find out what, why, and how. He couldn't move on information like this without proof it wasn't fabricated by people to make the general look bad.

"Tell me if anything else comes through on transmission…" Skyler paused for a moment, wondering if Yang wasn't mad at him as he typed out something that made his blood chill to the bone doing.

"Love you, firefly." Skyler typed and pressed 'send'. He didn't know what would come next. Atlas had evolved, it had changed, and in a way that scared Skyler. This wasn't the kingdom he was fighting for; it was something new.

It was monstrous, scary, raw, and unknown, something only a mad man could come up with.

Part of him wondered if Merlot had been doing anything in Mantle behind Atla's back. someone had stirred the pot, and this was something he could guess would come only from the man in the lab.

"Ok, if Merlot wants to mix things up? I'll mix things up, it's time to get to the bottom of whatever the hell this is, get some answers… and save Atlas before it gets eaten alive by whatever the hell is causing this thing…" Skyler stopped for a second and hummed.
