Summary/Disclaimer: Time for another chapter of The Dragon and her rook. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum, and Rooster Teeth do.

(Atlas Academy.)

Yang leaned on Bumblebee as the Manta landed and a squad of Atlesian Soldiers hopped out.

Skyler had donned a whitish cyan jacket along with a blue sweater-like shirt under with blue boots on, he also wore black gloves and blackish blue with shades of seafoam green pants. He had the Atlas logo on his shoes, gloves, and the back of his jacket. He also wore dark blue sunglasses.

"He's not telling you anything, is he?" Yang asked, she hadn't changed from her Mistral clothes… it wasn't that she hated warmer clothes, but she felt they fit her the most, it wasn't like everyone's appearance changed that much.

"No, he isn't. I had to throw my weight around just to organize something like this and I have a feeling my uncle is going to hear about this mission." Skyler stated as another Manta landed.

Skyler didn't want to bring AK-200s due to their programming deferring to a superior officer.

"You still trust him?" Yang watched her fiancée's face scrunch up at this bit.

Yang realized while she didn't 100% trust the general, it was a two-way street. They didn't tell him about a few things, and he had the right not to tell them everything.

That, and she knew her fiancée didn't obey his uncle just because of the chain of command. It was because of their family bond and loyalty, Yang knew blaming General Ironwood was like if Skyler blamed Qrow, it was cutting deep to the bone.

"Contact!" A howl split the air and a cat-like Grimm growled and looked at them as Skyler drew his sword.

"Form a perimeter!" Skyler ordered the 9 Atlesian soldiers as more of the ice-covered Grimm hit the tundra.

"Ice? No…" Skyler muttered as Yang cocked her fists, Skyler watched a bulky piece of metal slide over her cybernetic arm.

"Where did you…" Skyler was dumbstruck for a moment before regaining his composure and dodging a Sabyr which was gunned down by the line of Atlesian soldiers

"Later, talk later." Yang rushed the pack as an ice-covered Ursa emerged and roared a challenge at the blonde brawler.

"Those Sabyrs… Sabyrs and ice don't mix." Skyler muttered as he met the charge of a Sabyr, stabbing it through the mouth and throwing its body to the side as more Grimm appeared.

Now he had questions, whatever his uncle was after was here, but there was Grimm more than usual here and the reports didn't match up.

He watched Yang flip backward before clocking the Ursa with a right hook, knocking a few teeth out of the Ursa's mouth.

Skyler turned and fired a shot from the hilt of his blade, killing a Beowolf which skidded along the ground, he sighed and rolled his eyes.

Yang blocked the Ursa's attack with her left hand before punching something into the mouth of the Grimm. She dodged a bite before handstand kicking it with the help of some of Her Aura.

Skyler watched the Grimm fall into a few Sabyrs and explode as he blinked in shock.

After disposing of the larger Grimm, Yang went to work helping the Atlesian soldiers take down the Sabyrs and Beowolves as Skyler started to rack his brain for ideas on what was going on.

This didn't stop him from executing a Beowolf that wandered close to him as he lopped its head from the hairy shoulders of the beast.

Sabyrs didn't like the cold, they would strike at people who were in low snow, but they didn't adapt to the cold this well.

The Grimm were frozen to death by cold… now they weren't, this was…

He needed to keep his thoughts to himself and focus more on the fight. he could think later when he wasn't fighting for his life.

Yang was sent back by a hungry Sabyr before it pawed the ground and opened its toothy maw to reveal another set of jaws, saliva dripping from them like poison.

Skyler watched as the beast began to move faster and faster, it dripped green from it. Skyler instantly knew his hunches were right, this was a nightmare come true more than anything else.

It made Skyler personally disguised and fearful if that creature was brewed in a lab rather than born from whatever pit the Grimm normally crawled out of?

Then it proved without a shadow of a doubt these creatures were man-made. Skyler lifted his sword and shot the Grimm, causing it to erupt as the crystals all over its body exploded, Dust spilling from them as Yang flew backward, her Aura dropping from the hit as the Grimm finally retreated.

This left only the soldiers and the mine. Fresh bullet casings lined the snow alongside the bodies of dead Grimm.

Grimm that didn't evaporate at all… something was wrong.
