Summary/Disclaimer: Time for another chapter of The Dragon and her rook. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum, and Rooster Teeth do.

(SDC Mine #2, takes place before 'Sparks'.)

Skyler decapitated one of the last Centinels. He panted as the remaining 6 retreated. Skyler blinked in confusion and checked his scroll.

His Aura was at 50%, he rubbed at his right arm which had the remains of the corrosive liquid.

"They could have killed me… what is he after that he'd throw Grimm away?" Skyler asked as he sighed and then remembered that Yang disappeared.

He looked at the destroyed tunnel and sighed, realizing that he had to pick his way through the mines… a good thing that scrolls for the Atlesian military had advanced tracking considering teams were trained to stick together.

"Damn it, Yang. I wish you told me…. never mind, she's Yang, I should have expected bombs." Skyler began to follow her scroll's signal.

(With Yang)

Yang slid back into a Dust cart, knocking it to the ground as she stumbled to the ground.

The Centinels, 3 out of the group from the wave that Skyler and she started to combat, led her to the Geist which had a group of Merlot's Androids backing her up.

"You look tired, Ms. Xiao Long, or should I call you Ms. 'Azur'?" Merlot asked as the Red Android raised its glaive.

Yang panted, her Aura flickered, she flipped to her feet and looked at the group.

"What are you… doing here?" Yang asked as she lunged forward at the machines.

The Geist lifted a rock, pebbles, and debris raining off the piece of stone before it hurtled the boulder at the brawler.

Yang somersaulted forward, firing Ember Celica which threw her into the air. she glared at the White Androids, aiming their weapons at her.

Merlot was in Atlas, he had pierced through Ironwood's defenses, and he was too busy working on a project meant to help communications.

"Does it scare you knowing what happened to your other arm?" Yang felt her arm shake.

Then the Geist knocked her out of the air, throwing her across the floor, knocking her out, she slammed into another Dust cart, knocking its contents onto her. Yang lifted her head before she collapsed, her Aura shattering in an explosion of yellow.

Merlot looked at the girl. He could see a black eye that wouldn't heal because of her broken Aura, and several cuts on her belly and left arm but nothing more.

"It would be so easy to kill you… but you'd become a messiah, Ms. Long. My research will show people how powerful the Grimm are and how we can conquer them. Atlas, Vale? They have their parts in my research." Merlot stated before the Geist picked up a cargo container of Dust.

"You won't stop the storm coming… don't mistake my kindness for mercy… I'm not letting you stand in the way of my brilliance." Merlot stated as he gave commands for his group to leave.

There was a blast of rock that covered Merlot's forces escaping. He had what he came for, his diversion had yielded results he didn't expect to come his way.

"YANG!" Skyler yelled before he rushed to hold the battered brawler in his arms.

"Colonel, we have reinforcements incoming, what's your position?" He heard from his communicator and sighed.

"Get a Manta ready and tell the hospital to get a bed ready," Skyler ordered, he turned Yang over and looked around at the mines.

"What the hell was Merlot doing here?" Skyler asked, curious as to why Merlot had sent so many Grimm here.

"Damn it, this is just like Vale…" Skyler lifted the blonde brawler in his arms.

Skyler turned and retreated, damn the investigation at the moment. He needed to get Yang to safety.

He walked at a very brisk pace, pausing only to walk down one of the pathways or change direction.

He made it to the front entrance, which had been opened by a group of Atlesian Soldiers with Gravity Dust grenades.

He walked past the troops towards a landing Manta. Skyler already knew problems were arising. He didn't care about the fallout from this unauthorized investigation.

Skyler hooked Yang into one of the seats and then settled into the back, slumping to the ground.

"Top speed," Skyler ordered; it would probably be his last order at the moment.

It was still obeyed, knowing that the two elite Atlas soldiers needed to go to the hospital for medical health.

He hummed and looked at Yang. Skyler was mad she used her explosives inside the mines without him knowing. She could have killed herself with the move.

The other part of him was more worried about what would happen to Yang when he got to the hospital. This had been like the time Adam ambushed her.

The man was dead, crushed by the fall of rubble when Yang hit him with the grenade launcher in her gauntlets.
