Summary/Disclaimer: Time for another chapter of The Dragon and her rook. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum, and Rooster Teeth do.

(Atlas Memorial Hospital 'Sparks'.)

"Are you insane!? This will never happen!" Skyler yelled before wincing at the tone of his voice.

"You launched an unauthorized mission, you engaged hostile forces without my permission. You're lucky I'm being merciful and not stripping you of rank…" Skyler looked at his uncle and wanted to say something.

He didn't care much about his rank at the moment. Skyler looked at Yang who was hooked up to an iv. He had heard that despite her outward appearance, Yang needed to heal for several days at least before she was sent back to work.

"Sir, with all due respect, you have never left me in the dark before. It is standard Atlesian military protocol that all information was shared with the highest-ranking officer at the time." Skyler stated only for Ironwood to look at him with a glare.

"We will talk about this at another time… you are NOT to look into the Amity project, or I WILL strip you of rank. I have a lot worse to deal with, such as Robyn and her damned 'Happy Huntresses.' Tell Yang I said hello when she wakes up." Ironwood departed after this; Skyler watched as his uncle departed.

Skyler sighed, his uncle had NEVER been this strict and brutal when it came to tactics. What had happened to his uncle in the few months he was gone?

Skyler shook his head; he couldn't pursue the Amity Project without losing the resources he would have for protecting Atlas. He'd stay his hand for now.

Skyler looked at Yang, Robyn was a part of this puzzle. Ironwood and Robyn competed for who would be in charge of the ruling council. He decided to make it his goal to track down Robyn and get some answers from her.

Skyler blinked as he noticed slight movement from around the corner, one of the 'Happy Huntresses.'

Speaking of Robyn and her group of misfits…

Skyler sighed and walked into Yang's room, closing the door behind him. he knew his uncle was busy telling the others what happened, that would probably wind down on how much time he could spend here at the moment.

"This is all my fault." Skyler sighed and cupped his chin, looking out at the rain that made up the weather for Mantle.

Skyler never bothered to care about the rain that the weather shield turned into rain as the constant snow would cause people to drop dead. Now seeing Mantle slowly descending into chaos between what he could see was Atlesian soldiers and the military?

This was SO going sideways. He turned to Yang and sighed. He was caught between the military on one side, and his fiancée and personal feelings on the other and he had no idea which side to pick.

Skyler didn't want Mantle to collapse, even if the city was indeed the 'slums' of Atlas? They didn't deserve the strain of having resources that could be used to fix the city going to other projects. He was glad that being a Colonel of the Atlesian Military and commander of the Black Ops Division of the Atlesian Army gave him the ability to asymmetrically affect that to a degree.

On the other hand? He was a soldier, he was loyal to the military, they weren't the perfect military they thought themselves to be… but they were still the strongest and best-equipped military on Remnant, no other armed forces on Remnant were larger, more funded, and stood a better chance of overthrowing Merlot and his army.

There was also the fact that he was one of the only officers deployed outside Atlas during the military lockdown of the kingdom. he didn't know who started this conflict, and how it escalated.

"Ugh…" Skyler was so distracted that he didn't notice he was running his fingers through Yang's golden locks he found himself loving more every day.

Yang was the first one to show him a life outside missions, to make him laugh and feel like a regular person who wasn't a warrior. He wasn't going to discard his relationship, how they were making Merlot desperate by keeping up the war with up.

But he didn't know what to do. he had been used to getting orders and following them, not being given a choice… it was like his childhood all over again.

Skyler decided to stay for a bit and then return to Atlas Academy. He hadn't encountered Robyn and if his uncle wanted her captured?

He'd find her… and ask her what the hell was going on since his uncle didn't trust his nephew with his plans.

"Don't worry, Firefly. I'll save Mantle… just rest." Skyler brought his lips to her hand and then turned to walk away.

Yang groaned, showing signs she was starting to heal.

Skyler smiled and left, calling for a Manta to pick him up.
