Summary/Disclaimer: Time for another chapter of The Dragon and her rook. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum, and Rooster Teeth do.
(Atlas, during 'A Night Off.'.)
Skyler stood in his office. He sighed before sitting down with his scroll.
"This is all falling apart," Skyler stated as he looked out the window at Atlas. "Merlot is going to steamroll us within a few weeks if the people don't already," Skyler muttered the last bit before standing.
There was a knock on the door. Skyler opened the door and was met by Yang. She was still woozy here and there, but she was still walking around.
"Hey," Yang stated before giving a small wave to her fiancée. "You know your uncle gave us the night off, right?" Yang put in before nudging Skyler out the front door.
Skyler sighed and followed Yang to the hanger. He was glad at least Atlas didn't take Bumblebee from Yang. Skyler was rather fond of that bike, all things considered.
"I know. You also know I'm kind of one of the people running the military keeping this kingdom alive, right?" Skyler said with a sigh. "It seems I have to do ALL the work in the kingdom, though," Skyer stated with a very angry growl to his tone.
Yang picked up quickly Skyler was NOT getting along with his uncle. She wasn't big on the 'military specialist' part of her job. Yang still was smart enough to know the military hierarchy was holding order together in Atlas.
"The kingdom will still be here when you get back." Yang put in as she dragged her fiancée to the hanger. "We are going to a club. I'm going to break your legs and carry you there if I have to." Yang added to Skyler.
Skyler sighed and rubbed his temples as they flew towards the outpost where the Atlesian Military decided to store Yang's beloved bike.
That was also the place where the newest piece of military equipment was stored.
The HVB Rhino HDS800 is a super-fast hoverbike designed to speed through the terrain. Skyler also knew they were supposed to have miniguns on the front to serve as defense and offense for the rider.
"So. Atlas decided to make some more fancy tech, huh?" Yang asked as they landed Skyler nodded. "When did they have these?" Yang questioned as she looked at Skyler.
"Their patrol bikes, Yang," Skyler said as he ran his hand over the smooth, gun-grey metal of the machine. "Atlas is kind of the biggest military on Remnant because of things like this?" Skyler stated to Yang.
He raised an eyebrow in sheer amusement. Yang looked over the machines in interest. She hadn't seen a hoverbike before.
"Why the radio and internet?" Yang questioned. She poked at the console as Skyler grabbed her mechanical arm and smirked.
"Yang, that's because these prototypes are supposed to be used for patrol." Skyler put in as he noticed the smirk on her lips. "Don't even think about it. I know that look on your face. I didn't take care of you in the hospital for you to go back," Skyler stated to Yang.
Yang smirked even more, like a Centinel preparing to strike. Skyler groaned and leaned to the side as Yang leaned on her fiancée. He felt her chest pressing into his arm and blushed insanely. Skyler could already feel the soldiers around them looking at the duo.
"So, you took care of me in the hospital?" Yang purred out. "How should I EVER replay my knight in shining armor, hmm?" Yang asked Skyler with a grin. Yang watched Skyler twirl away, stumbling and almost falling into the snow.
He looked over to see Yang smiling at him. Skyler couldn't tell if the woman was flirting with him, still working on painkillers, or just in the clouds. Skyler sighed and allowed his giggling fiancée to walk over.
"Not a damn word, firefly," Skyler whispered to Yang. "Just… get on Bumblebee," Skyler stated with embarrassment.
"Ok, ok," Yang stated as she walked to the hanger. "Just messing with you, Sky. You should chill, your burn up if you keep doing that." Yang said as she blew a kiss towards Skyler.
Skyler ignored the small jab at him. Yang hadn't flirted with him like this. Skyler had to question why she was so openly affectionate.
"Ugh. Yang, what are you doing?" Skyler asked as he walked over to lean on one of the rhinos. "Seriously. I've never gotten to see her like this. I'm glad she's enjoying Atlas at least somewhat after all the crap we've been through, recently." Skyler muttered to himself.
He ran his mechanical fingers through his hair. Skyler had barely got any sleep the night before. He was too busy trying to deal with Ironwood's plans. Skyler had no idea what his uncle was up to and how to counter Merlot.
Atlesian specialists didn't get much sleep. Skyler could now say Atlesian Black Ops got even less sleep.
