Summary/Disclaimer: Time for another chapter of The Dragon and her rook. Enjoy the 1200-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum, and Rooster Teeth do.
(Atlas, during 'A Night Off.')
It wasn't easy to dance without Yang making fun of his 'moves'. Skyler rolled his eyes as Yang did a backflip and launched into a split.
"Yeah, totally not showing off, Firefly," Skyler said while waving his arms. He hummed at his fiancée who laughed in delight.
Skyler was glad people weren't panicking at least. The more people enjoy themselves all over Atlas. The more hope he had for Mantle.
He was interrupted by Yang bumping her hip into him. Skyler stumbled as Yang giggled. Skyler looked at Yang with a small smirk and raised an eyebrow.
"Seriously, Yang?" Skyler questioned Yang who shrugged before grabbing his arms. "What are you doing?" Skyler asked Yang while laughing. This was far too silly for him not to laugh.
"Dancing with my fiancée," Yang stated while the two swayed back and forth. "You haven't had a chance to chill and take it easy since Vale," Yang added while Skyler rolled his eyes and dipped Yang.
Her brown boots contrasted with the heavy white ones Skyler wore.
"Remember the dance at Vale?" Skyler asked Yang who raised an eyebrow before she started to remember.
"The one where I wore that hot white dress?" Yang asked while she leaned backward. "Why, you think of something?" Yang questioned Skyler who rolled his eyes with amusement.
"Way to ruin the moment, Firefly," Skyler stated while the couple continued their dance. "I was going to say that was the first time we danced." Skyler put in and looked out through the window. He could see Atlesian Cruisers and Atlas. He thought of the academy, his uncle in his quarters.
Skyler wondered what his uncle's goal was. It was clear he was aware of Merlot's troops being outside Atlas. Skyler saw more Atlas troops down the streets along with more security.
Why would the business-as-usual General James Ironwood send them on a night off?
"Sky?" Yang asked as Skyler snapped out of his thoughts while turning back to her. She rolled her eyes as the two continued their dance.
"Sorry, I was just thinking about something," Skyler said while Yang hummed. "Did I do something wrong?" Skyler asked while Yang rolled her eyes.
"You stepped on my foot," Yang said as she released herself from Skyler's grip. "Geez, you suck at dancing," Yang said as Skyler crossed his arms and shook his head.
"Funny, considering I've never once seen you dance with me since Vale," Skyler said while Yang hummed and nodded.
Skyler watched as Yang went to hug him. He wrapped his arms around his fiancée as their noses touched.
"Maybe we could dance more tonight?" Yang asked as she closed her eyes and leaned in to kiss Skyler.
Skyler was about to lean in and respond when a boom echoed through the club. Skyler and Yang blinked before another explosion rocked the building.
That was when their scrolls lit up with alerts while both rushed outside. Skyler looked at the sky in horror.
Manticores and Sphinx were descending upon Mantle. Skyler could see Nevermores as well.
"No…" Skyler muttered to himself. He turned back just as a barrage of missiles hit the lead Sphinx. It screeched as its body broke down, turning it to ash.
A Manta flew past while he heard raid alarms. Skyler got a report over his earpiece.
"Sir, General Ironwood ordered all available units into combat!" Skyler heard from one of the soldiers.
Skyler sighed and went to grab Lazuli Centurion. He was glad at least Bumblebee had slots to hold things.
"Sky!" Yang yelled as she ran towards Skyler. He turned to look at her and tilted his head. He then resumed pulling the blade from the motorcycle.
Skyler flicked the sword open as he looked at the Grimm before more Mantas and a few Bullheads as well.
"Someone please tries and herd them out onto the tundra!" Skyler ordered over his earpiece. "We need to stop more Grimm from coming!" Skyler yelled and got an
He could already hear the Beam Turrets of the gates firing at the Grimm. Skyler watched one Manticore get a wing sheared off and crash into the snow.
There was bound to be more.
"Sky, we need to get these people to safety!" Yang yelled as a Nevermore swooped down the street. It Fired off dozens of feathers that smashed and impaled cars.
Skyler watched Elm fire a grouping of missiles, knocking the Grimm out of the air for good.
"We also need to handle those Grimm." Skyler put in before a low-flying baby Nevermore approached.
Skyler killed it with a shot from his weapon before he turned to Yang.
"The more Grimm attack the city. The harder it will be to contain them." Skyler said while a Manta was hit by Manticore only to recover.
It shot down another Manticore while an Atlesian Bullhead soared ahead. It was knocked into the tundra by a Nevermore and crashed.
The air battle was becoming far worse than he assumed. Skyler checked his earpiece.
"Clover, start getting civilians to the shelters! I need anyone we can spare to engage those Grimm!" Skyler ordered before turning to Yang. "I want you to escort people to the bunkers in the meantime. They're going to need a Huntress to protect them." Skyler stated before a howl split the air.
Great, more Grimm he had to exterminate. He was greeted by a Manta which set down in the street. A family rushed aboard it as Skyler climbed on board.
"You think I'm just going to…" Yang started to say while Skyler frowned.
"No, but I don't want more people to get hurt," Skyler stated before starting to close the door. "Your one of the best Huntresses around. I'm going to save the people we can reach and coordinate air support, Yang. I need you to handle the ground battle currently." Skyler said before the Manta took off.
Yang watched the craft depart for Atlas. She could see the hesitation in Skyler's eyes to leave.
But he had a point, panicking people would just result in more Grimm. Yang knew someone had to kill the Grimm before too many people panicked.
Yang sighed as a group of HVB Rhinos roared up to her.
"Specialist Schnee said you might want to lead a Calvary charge?" One of the soldiers on the hoverbikes asked as Yang nodded.
She smirked and mounted Bumblebee before the squad roared into Mantle.
General Ironwood watched from his office.
"Damn you, Merlot," Ironwood stated before heading to his desk to figure out what to do next.
Little did they know this was part of Merlot's plan.
