Summary/Disclaimer: Time for another chapter of The Dragon and her rook. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum, and Rooster Teeth do.

(Atlas, 1 hour after the fight with Robyn.)

Skyler looked at his scroll and sighed. Robyn had been captured by the Ace-Ops.

He wanted to feel happy, but this solved almost nothing. Merlot's forces were still running amok in Atlas.

"And Yang probably thinks I'm a fascist," Skyler said, scowling in annoyance. Skyler knew for a fact that things were only going to get worse.

The Manta docked at the hanger of Alsius Academy. Skyler disembarked and walked to his office.

Neither Winter nor his uncle requested him. He was glad for that, Skyler's mind felt amess.

"The General of the Atlesian Military making power plays," Skyler muttered as he walked. "I'm locked out of crucial military plans Winter isn't…. Everyone with blades pointed at throats. All while a madman and his army are at our throat." Skyler stated to himself.

His mind once again wanders to Yang. She couldn't think he was telling the truth. Skyler wondered if Yang thought he was working for Ironwood without any reservations.

"Merlot has to be defeated," Skyler said and took a seat at his desk. "Why has nothing been devoted to the wall? Merlot's androids and Grimm are seeping in through there." Skyler muttered to himself while humming.

Skyler scratched at his neck and then typed at the console. Skyler guessed he had to secure something to make repairs.

"My uncle will have my head if I try anything," Skyler said with a hum. He gazed over the companies in Atlas.

If Skyler knew a victory to be found? It started with securing the front lines of Atlas. The sooner the wall had a defended position. The easier it would be to focus on a counterattack.

"Hmm, there are a few companies that could help that," Skyler stated, more to himself than anyone in particular.

Skyler paused as he remembered something. There was a relief of supplies in case Atlas ever needed to withstand a siege. Skyler tapped his fingers on the desk.

"Hmm…" Skyler muttered to himself and looked out the window. Skyler sighed and rolled his eyes. "Maybe I can use the emergency supplies. But I need someone who can tell me more about these Grimm and androids." Skyler stated while rubbing his temples.

Skyler hummed and thought of all the people that could help. Skyler wanted to talk to Yang. Skyler knew he had to prove to Yang he was working for Atlas, not just the military.

"Winter is out, the Ace Ops might be ok…." Skyler said before deflecting the idea. "No, their talk to General Ironwood. Think Skyler, you're the head of Black Ops. I need someone who isn't tied directly to the military." Skyler stated which made him hum once more.

Penny came to his mind. Skyler hadn't seen her doing more than patrols of Mantle. Skyler tapped his fingers on the desk before he stood up.

"Maybe I can talk to Penny," Skyler said while looking out at Mantle. "Her father is a scientist, maybe he'd know something," Skyler stated before turning to the door.

"I can't stay here, anyway," Skyler said and marched out the door. "Nothing is going to change in Mantle. I don't feel like sitting in my office till the entire kingdom burns down." Skyler hissed and walked towards the hanger.

Skyler planned on finding Penny, talking to her, contacting her father… Then finding out whatever he could on Merlot and his forces. The sooner the wall was fixed. The sooner Skyler knew he could return to the war with Merlot. A war that needed to end.

Skyler took out his scroll and sent a message to Yang. He trusted his fiancée. If there was one thing Skyler refused to fail? It was his relationship with Yang.

"I'm going to set things right," Skyler stated to himself. "Even if I have to sacrifice my rank to do it," Skyler added and began his walk to the Mantas.

If General Ironwood… If his uncle didn't wish to save Atlas? Then Skyler would do it. He didn't want to command Atla's charge. That duty belonged to his uncle.

Skyler planned on saving Atlas. He would start with security for the defensive wall. Then he'd make his uncle see he needed to step up.

"The only war that matters are with Merlot," Skyler muttered to himself as he entered the hanger. "And the only soldiers we require are the ones who love saving what's right," Skyler said before climbing into a prepped Manta.

He descended towards Mantle. Skyler knew Penny could be trusted. She wanted only what was best for their kingdom. If Penny couldn't help him? Then Skyler feared that Solitas would fall to Merlot's army.

"This is going to be a war just to survive," Skyler muttered to himself while steering the craft towards Mantle.

Skyler sighed, not knowing what was going to happen next. He feared the worst before it got even close to better.
