Chapter Three: In Which Taxis Are Hired

"P-Professor Lupin?" he said disbelievingly. "Is that you?"

"Why are we all standing in the dark?" said a third voice, this one completely unfamiliar, a woman's. "Lumos."

"NO!" screamed Harry.

But it was too late, the damage was done. A wand tip flared, illuminating the hall with magical light.

"I'm already in trouble for doing underage magic. I did not need this," said Harry wearily.

"What do you mean, Harry?"

"In my second year, a house elf did magic in this very house, and I got a letter from the Ministry saying I'm not allowed to do magic outside of Hogwarts. I'm supposed to be the only wizard in the area, so any spell performed nearby is considered to be done by me. The rules aren't very clear, but the odds are four to one against us at best."

"Oops!"

"How're we getting — wherever we are going?" Harry asked.

"Brooms," said Lupin. "Only way. You're too young to Apparate, they'll be watching the Floo Network, and it's more than our life's worth to set up an unauthorised Portkey."

"I'm guessing none of you guys have heard of a taxi?"

AN: 1) Is it really wise to do spells in an area where Harry Potter is supposed to be the only wizard? I know the Trace is wonky, but why take the risk when the Ministry is looking for any excuse to convict Harry?

2) Are brooms really the only way? Obviously not.
