Over the next few weeks, the war dwindled and climaxed at the same time. William and the Clan successfully escaped London. Over the next few nights, they snuck into the Fire Nation Colonies and liberated them from English rule.
After leaving the Colonies, the Clan went back east and sacked York again, this time in a more discreet way. The method used was the Trojan Horse, because one of the books William brought into the new world when he was 16 covered Greek mythology. The Clan used the exact same method to sneak into the city before sacking it.
Meanwhile, Aang, who used his glider to fly back to Scotland, relayed an order William had given to sack every border town in England along the river. They Scots used their own methods and within two weeks, it was done. However, just like York, the Scots immediately abandoned the cities after sacking them.
While this happened, English forces in Scotland panicked and retreated to try reclaim the coastal towns. This allowed Scottish forces to easily retake Falkirk and with that, they retook the Douglas province and Clan Douglas was reinstated as their rightful leaders.
With the Douglas province back in Scotland's control, the Ferguson province was the only place left Scotland that England had control over.
To put an end to the war once and for all, William sent a message to Longshanks, stating that both countries' entire armies meet at a field in Sterling, the seat of the Ferguson province, for one last battle. Whoever won would claim victory for the whole war. This was a huge risk, considering how the English outnumbered the Scottish eight to one. But the Gaang agreed with William to end the war with one last stand. When he received the message, Longshanks agreed and the entire English Army marched towards Sterling.
April turned to May and the Clan made preparations. On the night before the battle, they set up camp in a forest just two miles south of the battlefield. Over the night, the Clan went to bed early to mentally prepare. Nobody said anything to each other, as they were all thinking about the same end goal.
SUNRISE, MAY 20
William went into Aang and Katara's tent where they were both sleeping in the same sleeping bag. He woke them. Rather than berate him for barging in, they simply acknowledged that they were awake and got up to prepare. He did the same to Sokka, who was less patient when it came to sleeping.
William then went to Toph, who slept in a tent she earthbended. She threw a pebble at his head, which was her way of acknowledging that she was awake. Before he turned around wake the others, she grabbed his arm and had a concerned look on her face. He grabbed her hand and said, "If we die, we die together."
He then woke the MacKay children, followed by the rest of the Clan and they all made their final preparations before the battle of their lives.
