Chapter 2
It was later that night when Paula was sitting on the couch as she watched Ben play with her son Max. She smiled as she watched the pair happy that her son finally got a father figure in her life not only a father figure but a really good one. In the past guys ran when she mentioned Max but not Ben he stayed and didn't leave her and now had a relationship with her son as well. Something she never thought a guy she dated would be willing to have but Ben just kept on surprising Paula. Paula was in her own little world thinking about it all that she hadn't even noticed that Ben had gone and taken Max to bed until he returned and had kissed her "Everything ok?" Paula immediately smiles and nods as Ben asks the question "Everything perfect" Ben nodded as he smiled and kissed Paula again before getting up to get some coffee for then both.
When Ben returned he sat beside Paula and handed her one of the coffees before making room for Paula to lay on his knee which she did after she sat her coffee on the table. Paula looked up at Ben "Thank you for making me happy and for having a relationship with Max" Ben smiles at this he can't help it "Of course. You make me happy too. And I love having both you and Max in my life." He then bends his head down to kiss Paula which she returns once again. Both Ben and Paula knew that things were just about perfect for them right now but they both also knew the moment everyone at the hospital found out things would get messy not between then as a couple but with their friends and colleagues.
Meanwhile Luke was sitting at his house drinking his second bottle of beer trying to work out why Paula said no and what he had done wrong after all he could see she was worried about him after the punch so why say no. He had a million questions racing through his head including, Was it Max? Does Paula not like me? Is their another guy? Had Luke himself done something wrong?. These were all questions Luke knew he needed answers too but he also knew that perhaps he wouldn't like what Paula would say. He took another sip of his beer as he kept thinking about all the reasons and if he did something wrong, how he could fix things or to show Paula he likes her and how committed he would be to her and Max. He knew he needed an action plan and to think of one fast as he would be seeing Paula in less then twelve hours.
