Chapter 4: The New Marine In Town

Previously Joseph had arrived at the resistance hideout and taking a massive risk the leader of the resistance, marine commodore Chamberlain allowed him to stay. As Joseph starts to adjust to this new environment the commodore summons him to debrief him on the group responsible for the take over of the Kalani Islands. Confused as to why Chamberlain told him such information Joseph asks the man as to why he decided to give him this information. Chamberlain responded by offering a position in the marines under his command. Joseph accepts and awaits the new day for his evaluation. All he could think about was that his life was going to change even more than it has.

[Resistance Hideout, Aiwei Island]

[Six o'clock in the morning]

(Joseph's point of view)

"Aaaaaahhhhh. Is it morning yet." yawned Joseph

Sitting up on his bed, Joseph rubbed his eyes. After a few minutes he looked to his watch and saw the time.

"Six in the morning eh." said Joseph

"Hey you know what that means don't you." said the voice

"No why." thought Joseph

"Well you should. Today's the day were going to be marines." said the voice

"Oh shit, I almost forgot. Do you remember what time the evaluation is?" asked Joseph standing up.

"No but I do not think it's now. I suggest finding an open spot to get some light exercises done to prepare if we do have more time.

"Yeah sounds like a plan." said Joseph

Joseph stood up from his bed and left his tent. Realizing he had never actually explored the camp, he chooses to look around first before finding a spot to warm up. As he walks Joseph notices that all the dwellings are just a series of white tents spread around and despite being only six o'clock he see's a bunch of marines heading towards the perimeter of the forest.

"Hmmm, the whole place is surrounded by trees. Good natural hiding spot, if Victor didn't already know where these guys were set up." thought Joseph

"Head through the forest and see if you can find a secluded place to train and we need to have a talk in private." said the voice

"Okay then." said Joseph

Joseph quietly slipped passed the marines guarding the perimeter of the forest. Walking through the trees, Joseph stumbled upon a large clearing further down the hillside.

[Secluded Area, Aiwei Island]

[Seven minutes later]

(Joseph's point of view)

"This area looks perfect." said Joseph

"Yeah this place will do. A little ways down from the camp and easy to get back to." said the voice

"So what did you want to speak about?" asked Joseph

"Considering we know who our opponents here are, I think it would be best if we go over the skills you currently possess. We'll do our own little evaluation to see where to proceed when it comes to your bending. We will use this as a temporary training area, it's secluded and no offence but you still need to train." said the voice

"You are really pushing hard for a training session don't you think." said Joseph

"It is necessary because we are in one of the four blues fighting a large pirate crew from the first half of the grand line. We will need all the power available to us right now. Plus we do not even know if any of them have devil fruit powers, we need to be ready just in case." said the voice seriously.

"The floor is yours senator." said Joseph

"Alright you can already use firebending, earthbending, waterbending and airbending right at this moment. Now your waterbending and airbending need improvement, but your earthbending and firebending has progressed very well so far. I think now would be the time to try out a sub bending ability." said the voice

"Well were do I start?" asked Joseph

"There is a lot to choose from. A few of them include metalbending, lightning generation, bloodbending, combustion bending, lavabending and so on." said the voice

"Hmmm, they all sound useful but what to pick. I think I will go with lightning generation. It's not like I have a surplus of metal to use or a full moon to practice bloodbending right now." said Joseph

"Fair enough we can try those techniques later. Do you need me to give you the run down on lightning generation?" asked the voice

"Yes please." Joseph responded

"Okay lightning manipulation is one of the most devastating sub bending skills to use against a single opponent. Only rivaled by combustion bending and bloodbending in that regard. When Iroh was trying to teach Zuko how to use lightning he mentioned that lightning is a pure expression of firebending without aggression. It is not fueled by rage or emotion like regular firebending and is sometimes referred to as the 'cold blooded' fire. To perform the technique requires peace of mind. Iroh also said that there is energy all around us both yin and yang, positive energy and negative energy. Only a select few firebenders can separate these energies, this creates an imbalance and the energy wants to create balance. So when the positive and negative energy come crashing back together you provide release and guidance, thus creating lightning." said the voice

"But wait a minute. Azula was managed to use lightning when she fought Zuko for the last time remember. We both know she was not in the right state of mind during the fight or even after." said Joseph

"You have a point, but I have a theory." said the voice

"Well go on, don't let me hold you up." said Joseph

"Azula was a naturally gifted and incredible firebender. If she was in a better state of mind and Zuko didn't have Katara come into the fight then Azula would have won. Firebending was the first bending art you displayed since we came here. Your flames are blue like Azula's as well. I do not think it is too impossible to believe that maybe the calmness of the mind is not necessary to produce lightning. If what Iroh said was true then Azula should not have been able to use lightning as much as she did. So this is where my theory comes in. I believe that having a calm mind is more of a safety procedure to help the user not lose focus and injure themselves. Azula may have been able to utilize lightning at that time because she was very gifted at the art of firebending. Hell she probably had the most potential as a firebender in the series barring Aang of course." said the voice

"I guess that kind of make sense." said Joseph

"Well we can debate that topic later. As of right now I am going to need you to stand right in the middle of this clearing. Get into a relaxed but not lazy stance." said the voice

Walking to the center of the clearing, Joseph began to breathe in and out relaxing his body though still keeping his feet firmly placed to the ground.

"Good, now you need to feel the energy in your body flow. Search through the energy and separate the two energies, positive and negative. Once you have separated the energy the moment it comes crashing back into itself the lightning will be created. To which you will direct it towards the sky. I don't think it will take you to long to learn this skill but it will still require training and further practice like all of the others." said the voice

Joseph stood in the grassy area, merely standing and breathing. A few minutes go by as Joseph remained still breathing in and out.

"Alright now if memory serves me right, both Iroh and Azula moved both of their arms to guide the lightning to their fingertips. So now I want you to move your arms in a similar position without actually using your powers for practice. Now before you even attempt to create lightning you should know that lightning is going to be a double edge sword for you just like the other elements. Remember you are not Luffy or Enel, once the lightning forms you must guide it away from you." said the voice

"Okay got it." said Joseph

Several minutes go by as Joseph remains still with his eyes closed. A memory of Iroh flashes through his mind. By moving his arms in a circular motion multiple times Iroh was able to separate and guide the energy of the lightning to his finger tips and fire the bolt into the sky.

"When you are ready." said the voice quietly.

Joseph moved his arms around to get a feeling of the technique. Shifting his stance Joseph continues to practice these movements well past seven o'clock.

"There is energy all around me, positive and negative. from one hand to another, one must both separate these energies and when they inevitability collide back together, you create lightning." thought Joseph

Holding his arms out and closing his eyes Joseph began the technique, but this time to try and 'feel' the energies Iroh spoke of. A minute goes by and Joseph noticed a small change in himself.

"What is this? This feeling it is something else, I wonder is this the energy? The positive and negative energies must be separated, yin in one arm and yang in the other. Could it really be this simple? But if Azula managed to pull it off at her age then I don't see why I can't. Let's give it a shot then." said Joseph

With his eyes still closed Joseph began the motions again. Now this time instead of just simply feeling the energy within him, He tries to 'grasp' that energy and separate it into two halves. Yin in his right arm and yang in his left. A moment passes and Joseph feels a resistance in his arms, but not from the outside forces around him. A sound of sparks causes Joseph to open his eyes as he looks in surprise as his arms begin to generate lightning.

"Holy shit! It's working." said Joseph with excitement.

"Stay focused and continue the movements until you need to expel the energy. When the lightning finishes charging focus it into one arm and guide it towards the sky. The last thing we need is a fire hazard." said the voice quickly.

"Okay got it." said Joseph

Joseph began to focus the lighting to his right arm as he started to move it closer towards the sky. Once the lightning was charged Joseph pulled his right arm towards him and then with a strong thrust he aimed his arm to the sky. As he expected a bright blue lightning bolt shot from his fingertips into the sky and caused a large booming sound as the energy was expelled from Joseph's body.

"Oh fuck. I think the marines on guard duty would have noticed that." said Joseph worriedly.

"Yeah I think it is best we get out of here. If they did not see the lightning, they should have heard the sound. " said the voice

"Oh yeah and where exactly are we going to go?" asked Joseph

"Head through the tree's on the left side and hurry up the hill. We'll sneak back to our tent and pretend like we never left." said the voice

Running to the left of the clearing in the direction of the camp. Joseph ran back up the hill and through the tree's without making to much noise. He managed to make it back to the camp without seeing a single marine on his way back.

[Resistance Hideout, Aiwei Island]

(Joseph's point of view)

"Get in your tent quickly and remember while other people are around we can communicate without actually speaking out loud." said the voice

Joseph hurried to his tent as fast as he could without drawing any unwanted attention.

"Jesus I wonder if anyone noticed that." thought Joseph

"I don't think they noticed us so we might be okay. Besides this is one piece, the marines aren't exactly observant for the most part." said the voice

"Well I guess that's true except for a few of the officers." Joseph thought

"Well there going to find out anyway but it is best not to scare anyone this early in the morning." said the voice

"True that. Hey I have a question I need to ask." thought Joseph

"Go for it." said the voice

"I managed to learn and use lightning on my first try. How on earth was that possible? I thought it would take a few tries at the least." thought Joseph

"Aaah, I see. Well if you can remember to when Iroh initially tried to teach Zuko how to generate lightning, Zuko tried to create lightning but ended up creating a small explosion instead. He was unable to perform the technique because he was holding on to the inner turmoil inside of him. That shame inside Zuko fueled his anger and he was thus unable to create lightning." said the voice

"Then Iroh teaches him how to perform lightning redirection instead." thought Joseph

"Yes exactly. But unlike the two of us we don't really have the same issues that Zuko did and remember if you want to compare your firebending to any one character then it would have to Azula. As far as I am aware you possess the same talent that Azula has." said the voice

"Do you think the other sub bending skills will be this easy to learn?" asked Joseph

"I don't think so. Remember in terms of your abilities fire and earth are your strongest, while water and air are more weaker. Your waterbending in particular isn't horrible but it is not as refined and you just don't seem to be to use to it yet. Your airbending has been improving over the last month so I am not to worried about that at all. As for the sub bending skills I would say that sandbending, metalbending, lavabending and combustion bending would technically be the easiest. But skills such as flight, bloodbending and even useful abilities such as healing will be more difficult." said the voice

"Damn being able to fly would really change a fight, especially if I were to use lightning." thought Joseph

"Kind of like Enel. Raining bolts of lightning upon his enemies." the voice chuckled.

"Yeah but I wouldn't develop a god complex. At least I hope I wouldn't." thought Joseph

"Yeah well flight is not really a skill that was shown step by step. The true meaning of weightlessness and freedom resulting flight was not really revealed like the others, because only two men are known to have achieved it. Laghima and Zaheer both managed to do it. though never truly elaborated. In fact the only thing that gives us a hint is it may have something to do with relinquishing all worldly attachments to become free from the earth. I have no idea what it means and I don't know if it is a skill we should be actively gunning towards." said the voice

"Hmmm, I guess so." thought Joseph

Looking down to his watch Joseph checks the time.

"It's nearly eight o'clock. I wonder when this evaluation is going down?" wondered Joseph

Just as he finished looking at his watch, a voice broke him away from his thoughts.

"Hey new guy, you awake?" asked the marine walking into the tent.

"Yeah just stretching." responded Joseph quickly.

"Okay well the commodore wants me to bring you over to the training area. He also asked me to tell you to bring your weapons as well." said the marine

"Alright then." said Joseph grabbing his weapons.

"If you are ready then let's go." said the marine walking out of the tent.

"Lead the way." said Joseph following the soldier.

Joseph followed the marine outside his tent and through the rest of the camp. Walking past Chamberlain's tent and down a small trail through some trees the two men reached a small field. Joseph spotted a group of people ahead of them, Chamberlain and Julia among them. Though there were others he did not know.

"A Joseph glad you could join us." said Chamberlain

"Happy to be here commodore." said Joseph

"Good. Okay I have few questions that I need to ask you before we get to the physical assessment." said Chamberlain

"Sure thing." said Joseph

"What is you current age?" asked Chamberlain

"Seventeen sir." said Joseph

"Okay what is your date of birth?" asked Chamberlain

"The eighth of September." said Joseph

"What is your place of birth?" asked Chamberlain

"I don't really remember." said Joseph

"I'll classify that under memory loss." said Chamberlain

"Do you have any existing health problems?" asked Chamberlain

"No sir. Apart from some memory issues." Joseph responded

"Okay." said Chamberlain

"Do you have experience with using a blade, a pistol and a rifle?" asked Chamberlain

"I do have experience with using pistols and the occasional use of a rifle. Though I am not proficient with swords." said Joseph

"Alright we can work around that." said Chamberlain

"Do you have a devil fruit power?" asked Chamberlain

"Do I tell the truth?" thought Joseph

"I would just tell him the truth. We have no reason to lie to him." said the voice

"No I do not have a devil fruit ability." said Joseph

Chamberlain looked at Joseph weirdly. Julia who had remained quiet looked shocked at Joseph's answer.

"But that's impossible. How in the world were you able to do that thing with the ground and the air?" Julia said confused.

"It is not a devil fruit power but it can be mistaken as one." said Joseph

"We'll figure that one out later. Now we will start off by giving you a physical assessment. Please stand over here next to me so we can take your measurements." said Chamberlain

Joseph following Chamberlain's order stood next to the commodore as he took out a small tape measure from his pocket. Joseph stood sill as the officer measured his height.

"Hmmmm, six feet, one inch. Now usually we would take multiple measurements or just throw a pile of uniforms in front of new recruits for them to wear. But considering the circumstances we do not have any new uniforms. So I hope you do not mind just sticking with what you have on for now." said Chamberlain putting the tape measure away.

"Oh that's alright. So what is the next part?" asked Joseph

"Well now we have to assess your fighting prowess. This physicality test will determine will help me decide what rank you will get. Now I am going to time you so you need to be fast precise and to show us what you bring to the table." said Chamberlain taking out a stopwatch.

"Let's do this." said Joseph

"Excellent, okay boys you know the drill. Do not hold back." said Chamberlain

"Yes sir!" said the group of marines.

Chamberlain moved back along with Julia as five marines surrounded Joseph.

"Begin!" ordered Chamberlain starting the clock.

"Well now are you going to stand there or hit me?" asked Joseph

The first marine in front of Joseph ran towards him with his fist raised. Joseph slipped the incoming punch and countered by blasting his opponent away with a gust of wind.

"Aaaaaah!" shouted the first marine

"Next!" said Joseph

Another marine came up behind Joseph and grabbed him. Joseph started to elbow into the mans ribs while another marine came running to assault him, he kicked the marine in the stomach as he was getting closer to him and broke out of the other marine's hold. Joseph stomps on the ground causing the earth beneath the two marines to collapse in to the ground with their heads poking out, causing the two men to become incapacitated from the fight.

"Alright three down two to go." thought Joseph

Joseph punched the air forcing a giant blue flame to erupt from his hands. His attack had managed to hit the remaining marines who did not anticipate the powers of their opponent. The last of the group fell to the blue flame and Joseph despite being victorious he looked like something was wrong.

"This was too easy. I am almost disappointed." thought Joseph

"Your telling me. But you have to remember that we are in one of the four blues not the grand line or the new world. We maybe stronger than the basic grunts, but when it comes to the top tier characters we are not even close to their level and remember our main enemy is a grand line captain. I should also mention that this enemy in particular clashed with Ace." said the voice

"I guess so. I'm still happy I won though, even if I didn't go all out." thought Joseph

"Well I'll be damned. You made it look too easy. But if you would be so kind as to let the two men out of the ground, that would be nice." said Chamberlain snapping Joseph from his thoughts.

"Oh yeah." said Joseph rubbing the back of his head.

Joseph raised his arms up causing the two men to be released from their earthen trap.

"Thanks." said the two marines limping away.

"Now your time was one minute and twelve seconds. Impressive if I do say so myself, in fact that would make your time the fastest barring myself." said Chamberlain

"Okay cool." smiled Joseph

"Ah good, but before I continue I must ask you a few questions. You said you did not have a devil fruit power. If that was the case do you mind explaining what that was back there?" asked Chamberlain

"Come up with something quick. He's looks to invested in this." said the voice urgently.

"It is not a devil fruit power. It is more like a fighting style is what I can best describe to you." said Joseph

"A fighting style? I have never heard of any style that could use fire, earth and wind. The only thing that I can think of to explain what you did is by using the power of a logia devil fruit." said Chamberlain

"I can use a variety of elements to fight with, but I am not a logia. If I was a logia, then those men would not have been able to touch me." said Joseph

Chamberlain nodded at Joseph's response.

"Can anyone learn this style of fighting?" asked the commodore

"No I am the only one. Think of it as an exclusive style that can only be used by myself." said Joseph

"Huh that is a shame. Well we have one more test." said Chamberlain

"What test would this be sir?" asked Joseph

"A test to see your accuracy and overall handling of firearms. The men have begun to set up the targets. I will evaluate your use of a pistol and then we'll get you a rifle to use after that." said Chamberlain

While Joseph and Chamberlain were talking the remaining marines set up four targets at separate distances.

"Okay Joseph draw your pistols and begin." said Chamberlain

Drawing his pistols Joseph took aim and began to shoot the targets. He excelled at this test with a solid bullseye for three of the four targets, with the last shot narrowly coming close to the centre. Soon after he replicated similar results with a rifle given to him to use by one of the marines.

"Damn nice shot." said Chamberlain

"Thank you sir." said Joseph

"Okay everyone come around." said Chamberlain

The group came around together upon hearing the commodore's order.

"This brings our evaluation of our newest member to a close. I have decided that due to his skills and the talent he has displayed here today, that we welcome our new brother. Everyone give a cheer for our new petty officer, Joseph." said Chamberlain loudly.

"Yeah!" shouted the marines

Joseph look shocked at the words that came out of Chamberlain's mouth.

"Petty officer Joseph huh? I guess I'm a marine now." said Joseph smiling.

"Hey don't look so shocked kid. After myself that currently makes you the highest ranked person in camp. These boys are loyal and will follow you as faithfully as they have followed me here. As long as you show them that my faith in you was well placed, hell they would follow you to the ends of the world. Now petty officer, I will need you to report to my tent in the next twenty minutes. I have a matter to discuss with you about the maps you have brought to me." said Chamberlain

"Yes sir." said Joseph

Chamberlain nodded and walked off.

[Resistance Hideout, Aiwei Island]

(Joseph's point of view)

"Hey Joseph over here." said a random voice

Turning around Joseph notices a young man with pale blonde hair that looked a little older than him waving him over. He was accompanied by a young woman, an older man and Julia. Joseph walked over to the group to see what they wanted.

"Uh yes can I help you?" asked Joseph a little nervous.

"Oh no need to be nervous mister petty officer. I was just wanting to meet the guy who just set fire to a bunch of soldiers. I mean you just punched the air and whoosh fire instantly. Oh and don't get me started on the other things you did, It was soooo cool man." said the young man excitingly.

"Uh thanks." said Joseph rubbing the back of his head shyly.

"Landon would you please behave." said the older man sternly.

"What's your problem I was just saying hello and saying how cool his weird powers are." said Landon innocently.

"Not with that tone young man. You should show some more respect." said the older man

The two men kept bickering while Joseph looked confused.

"Oh don't mind them. Those two bicker a lot, so I would not worry about it too much." said the young woman

Joseph turned to look at the young brunette.

"Hey get a look at this one." said the voice

"Oh god damn it not again. Can you please not do this for ever woman we meet." thought Joseph

"Don't be like that." said the voice

"I'm sorry but I'm afraid I do not know your name miss." said Joseph nicely.

"Oh silly me. My names Pandora, it's a pleasure to meet you officially." said Pandora smiled brightly.

"She's not bad in the looks department don't you think? Come on now, you can't ignore me forever." said the voice

Ignoring the voice's comment, Joseph holds his hand out to Pandora.

"It is my pleasure to meet you Pandora." said Joseph with his hand out.

Pandora shook his hand and smiled. As Joseph and Pandora finished talking, the two men from before stopped there argument.

"Hey did we miss anything?" said Landon curiously.

"No Landon, I was just introducing myself to Joseph properly." said Pandora with the same smile present on her face.

"Oh yeah! My name is Landon by the way. It's nice to meet you man." said Landon holding his hand out.

"Yeah nice to meet you." said Joseph shaking Landon's hand.

"And this old fool here is my uncle." said Landon jovially.

Upon finishing his sentence, Landon's uncle punched the young man to the ground faster than Joseph could anticipate.

"I'm only fifty two, you little brat. Anyway my name is Polemon and as my nephew just mentioned, I'm the uncle of this rude little shit." said Polemon

"It is good to meet you Polemon. I hope we get along." said Joseph

"Ha, you see that nephew. Now here is someone with some respect and he's younger than you. You should learn a thing or two from him." said Polemon

"Ow did you have to hit me that hard!" Landon complained rubbing his head.

"Yes I did and unless you want another one you'll keep quiet." Polemon threatened.

"Useless old man." Landon whispered

"What was that?" asked Polemon with his fist raised.

"Nothing." said Landon quickly.

"That's what I thought." said Polemon lowering his arm.

Joseph couldn't help but smile at the antics of the two men. Pandora started giggling at the sight.

They are certainly lively aren't they?" said Pandora

"Yeah definitely." said Joseph

Looking around briefly, Joseph noticed that Julia was no longer with the group.

"Hey where did Julia go?" asked Joseph

"She does that sometimes. She'll wonder off and take a break away from people to cool her head." said Pandora

"Was it because of me?" Joseph asked

"It's not my business to say, sorry." said Pandora

"Oh no it's alright. I was just curious, that's all." said Joseph

"Yeah don't mind Julia. She is just wary of outsiders is all. Give her a little while and she'll warm up to you trust me." said Landon

"I'll remember that. So are you guy's citizen's of this place or another one of the marines?" asked Joseph

"No, we are part of the resistance but were not marines. My uncle and I were fishermen until the pirates showed up." said Landon

"Yeah when they invaded they took everything from us. We tried to help Chamberlain in town as best we could, but we were over run and had to flee." said Polemon

"And what about you Pandora. What brought you here?" asked Joseph

"Oh I escaped the pirates that came to Ouran Island. I managed to find Chamberlain and escape to here to get away from them, but they came here as well." said Pandora

"I'm sorry about your home, all of you." said Joseph sincerely.

"It's okay." said Pandora

"Same here." said Landon

Polemon merely nodded his head as a response.

"Well it has been nice talking to you all but Chamberlain told me to meet him. So I best be off." said Joseph

"Yeah you should probably do that, but hey if you ever need help my nephew is good with a sword and I'm not a bad shot with a rifle. If you ever need help we'll be happy to help you. I'm sure Pandora would be willing to help as well. She may not look like it but she is quite a fighter." said Polemon

"Is that right. Maybe I could learn a thing or two from you." said Joseph with a smile.

"Yeah." said Pandora shyly.

"You can count on me in fight. Anytime you need someone to fight next to you, I'm your guy." said Landon with his thumbs up.

"I'll keep that in mind. Well I'll catch you guys later." said Joseph walking off from the group.

[Resistance Hideout, Aiwei Island]

(Joseph's point of view)

Heading over to his superior officer's tent Joseph takes a deep breath. Feeling more relaxed Joseph walked in to Chamberlain looking down at the maps on the table in front of him.

"Sir." said Joseph

"Ah Joseph I was not expecting you for at least another five minutes, but no matter come in. We have a few things to discuss." said Chamberlain

Joseph walked to the table and sat down in front of Chamberlain.

"What is it you wish to talk about sir?" asked Joseph

"Well now that your technically my new second in command, I need your help devising a plan to combat the pirates. Now I have gone over the maps and found many interesting things about Victor's operations here. I have found gold supplies, weapons and food storage stations marked on these maps. I need some help on making a good and safe decision on what to do next. So that is where you come in." said Chamberlain

"Can I see the maps for a second sir?" asked Joseph

Chamberlain nodded and passed the maps over to Joseph. Looking at the maps Joseph noticed there was a marked position not too far way from the hideout.

"Sir there seems to be a weapon's storage located not too far from our current position." said Joseph

"Ah I see. Any ideas petty officer?" asked Chamberlain

"My idea is we have to deal with John and the rest of Victor's private army eventually. We need to hit them where it really hurts. Now you said so before Kai is known for buying up workers, so we need to hit their supplies. Either we take them or destroy them. The Kalani Islands are far away and trying to get in supplies from the outside will take too long in my opinion. So I suggest we attack their weapons first then focus on their food supply." said Joseph

"That sounds good, but what about John?" asked Chamberlain

"You said it before John is a drunk. A decent fighter but too wasted most of the time to be at the ready all of the time. His own flaws will work to our benefit. All we have to do is fuck with John's ability to secure supplies for the crew. He will then start to get shit from Victor and the rest of his men. If we can back John into a corner, he will have no chance but to retaliate. We can set up an ambush for him and take him out. We take out John, a large portion of his men and their supplies then we can coax Victor out in the open." said Joseph

"Damn that sounds like an excellent plan. You are just the man I needed for this job" Chamberlain smirked

"Hahaha, well that is not all. We need to play this smart. I suggest we do night time raids and take out as many pirates as we can." said Joseph

"Yes, but without my ship and with the supplies we have I don't think taking prisoners will be a smart move with our current resources." said Chamberlain

"As much as I don't want to throw the option around everywhere I go, killing the pirates is possibly the best option." said Joseph looking down.

"We do what we must to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Remember, we the men of justice must stand to help those in need." said Chamberlain sincerely.

"Yes sir." Joseph said

"Now how do you want to proceed with this raid you have proposed?" asked the commodore

"We send in a small crew of our own. I just met a few people I think might be good to help me." said Joseph

"Who exactly?" Chamberlain asked

"Landon, Polemon and Pandora." said Joseph

"Oh you met them already huh. Well they would certainly be a good fit. But may I ask why them? They are not marines." wondered Chamberlain

"With the amount of man power we have, we'll need every marine still alive to protect the civilians here." said Joseph

"That is true. Well they are good fighters. Polemon is a skilled marksman. He managed to provide a lot support by making sure the enemies did not get to us while we were escaping from the main village. Pandora is an excellent fighter and pretty hard to catch too. She is great at climbing obstacles and she's also pretty stealthy when she wants to be. I won't lie to you about the fact that she has managed to give a fright ever now and then." said Chamberlain

"What about Landon?" asked Joseph

"Landon's a good kid, but he is a little rebellious sometimes. He is a natural when using a sword. I asked if he wanted to join he could, but he declined unfortunately. But at least we have his help regardless." said Chamberlain

"I think having a smaller crew would work well for now. We'll use stealth to either steal the weapons or destroy them." said Joseph

"You have my permission officer to carry out this plan." said Chamberlain

"Thank you sir, but I forgot to ask about your previous second in command." said Joseph

"Ah yes. His name is Yusuke, captain Yusuke. He was captured when my ship was taken. He fought off Kai's crew so that we could get away. If he is alive we will try to save him. But we will have to wait as our attention is to liberating Aiwei Island." said Chamberlain

"Understood sir." said Joseph standing up from his chair.

"Before you go I suggest you tell Landon about your plan to..." started Chamberlain before the sound of an explosion interrupted him.

[BOOOOOM!]

"What the hell!?" yelled Joseph

The two marines looked at each other briefly before running out of the tent to the sound of screaming.

"Commodore, Commodore!" yelled a random marine

"What sailor. What has happened." Chamberlain said seriously.

"It's John's men. There was a lot of them approaching one of our checkpoints. They blew one of them up. The others stayed behind to hold off the pirates and told me to warn you. We need to move out, the boys won't be able to hold them forever." said the panicky marine.

"Calm yourself sailor. Get a rifle and help protect this place, we'll handle this." said Chamberlain

"Yes sir." said the marine running off.

Chamberlain looked to Joseph. But before he could speak Landon, Polemon, Pandora and Julia ran towards them.

"We heard the explosion what's going on!?" said Julia

"John's men are coming to the camp. Some of my men are holding them off. We need to act now." said Chamberlain

"Fucking pirates." growled Julia

"Chamberlain you can't be serious. We cannot defend this place if all of those men come here. We'll have more problems if the civilians get involved." said Polemon

"He's right sir. All six of us should be enough to take these fools and it should be noted that we do not have enough men to spare." said Joseph

"Fuck it alright then. Are you all in for a fight." said Chamberlain

"Yes." said Pandora

"You have my assistance." said Polemon with his rifle in hand.

"Count me in." said Landon

"I'll kill everyone of them." said Julia smiled

"Then let's go." ordered Chamberlain

Running to the entrance of the camp Chamberlain, Joseph, Julia, Pandora, Polemon and Landon hurry to face the surprise attack from John's men. Will they hold off the horde or die trying?

Next Chapter: Power Struggle

And that concludes this chapter of Justice. We have seen Joseph enter the marines in an unusual way and he has even gained a new skill.

Now this story will be long and it will be Joseph's journey through one piece. So there will be more arcs after this one.

Also as a reminder Joseph can learn techniques really fast but while he can use them, he does not yet have the diverse experience of using them in combat situations yet. That will come to him the more he fights people.

Now he learned lightning in this chapter. It will come in handy later trust me.

He is also much stronger than an average grunt especially in the four blues. But he is currently not nearly ready for the grand line or the new world.

So do not worry there are some longer fights I have him planned with the antagonists. So don't worry too much about the fights with weaker grunts.
