Chapter 5: Power Struggle
Previously Joseph had undertaken an evaluation that would decide his future in the marines. Having passed successfully Joseph is awarded the rank of petty officer and is officially welcomed by Chamberlain. Soon after Joseph met some new allies to his fight against the pirate horde. Landon, Polemon and Pandora. Three people whom he thinks will be of use during this campaign to liberate the Kalani Islands. Though soon after meeting with the commodore in his quarters, the sound of explosion rang through the camp causing panic. Rushing out of the tent Joseph and Chamberlain are informed that John's men have made a surprise attack against one of their checkpoints. Landon, Polemon, Pandora and Julia come running to help with the issue. Now with no other option the six fighters ran towards the upcoming battle.
[Aiwei Main Road, Kalani Islands]
(Joseph's point of view)
"Okay we are almost there. I do not know how many of them there are, but we'll have to manage." Chamberlain said running.
"As long as we can keep them from getting to the camp the better." said Joseph
"Yeah I know. Listen Polemon, I need you to hang back when we get there and provide supporting fire." said Chamberlain
"You got it." said Polemon
"Pandora, I want you to stick with Julia and hold our left side." said Chamberlain
"Got it." responded Pandora
"And Landon. I want you and Joseph watching out for each other on the right hand side." said Chamberlain
"Sure thing." said Landon
"But what about you sir?" asked Joseph
"I'll take the lead. They'll probably be gunning for my head the most anyway." said Chamberlain
Chamberlain looked over to Julia who had a dangerous look in her eyes.
"Try not to go insane out there Julia." said Chamberlain
"I make no promises." said Julia coldly.
"Jesus, I might need to watch out for her." thought Joseph
"Yeah she looks like a ticking time bomb." said the voice
"Okay once we get there, do not hold back. We need to push these criminals back as best we can." ordered Chamberlain
"Yes sir!" said Joseph
The group kept up the pace until they heard the sound of gunfire in the distance. Chamberlain kept running in front, while Polemon slowed down to the back. Julia and Pandora broke off to the left and Joseph and Landon moved to the right.
"You ready for this?" asked Joseph drawing his pistols.
"Yep let's do this." said Landon unsheathing his cutlass.
The two young men ran to the checkpoint to see dozens firing upon the barriers protecting the marines. Joseph noticed that the marines were still alive and firing back on the enemy.
"Take this you bastard!" screamed the group of marines
Just as the volley of bullets stopped from the pirates side, the group of marines jumped up as quickly as the could and unloaded on the John's men. One marine noticed Joseph and the others behind them.
"Boys we got company!" yelled the marine
They quickly turned to shoot, but stopped when they noticed Chamberlain.
"Sir? Oh thank god your here." said the marine
"No time for useless chit chat. How many enemies are there?" demanded Chamberlain
"Lost count at a few dozen, none of us are injured. They must be reloading now." said the marine
"Okay well let's kill some pirates boys. ATTACK!" screamed Chamberlain unsheathing his cutlass.
Chamberlain rushed the pirates as they were reloading and proceeded to cut them down one by one. Landon and Joseph watch in awe at the older sailor unloading on the enemy.
"Remind me never to get on his bad side." said Landon
"You got that right." said Joseph
Joseph and Landon took their positions on Chamberlain's right hand side. While the commodore was dealing with the pirates at the front, the two men began their fight with the pirates on the right side.
"Oh shit, marines!" screamed one of the pirates
"Kill them!" screamed another pirate
Joseph started his attack by shooting the two pirates both in the head. Landon provided close quarters assistance with his blade, expertly slicing his opponents with precision.
"Damn you really are good with that thing aren't you?" said Joseph pistol whipping a pirate to the ground.
"Hehe, well I have had a lot of practice." said Landon impaling another pirate with his sword.
"Fuck me there are a lot of pirates here." said Joseph firing more bullets into the forest.
"Yeah John's got a lot of men to spare." said Landon parrying another pirates dagger.
"Aaaaaah! Why won't you die already." said a random pirate
"Oh will you shut the fuck up." said Joseph shooting a bullet into the pirate's leg.
"Argh!" screamed the pirate in pain.
Joseph continued to fire off shots into the trees until his pistols ran dry.
"Fuck, I'm out." said Joseph holstering his guns.
Twelve more pirates rushed from the distance towards Joseph and Landon. Joseph cracks his knuckles in anticipation.
"Let's see how I fair against a few pirates eh." said Joseph
Pulling his arm back, Joseph then quickly smashes his arm into the ground causing moderately sized pieces of jagged earth to erupt from the ground straight towards the incoming pirates. The attack split the a large group in two. Joseph proceeded with raising a small earth wall and slamming it down to the ground with his right foot. Upon doing so Joseph shook the earth beneath the rock platform he stood on and caused a small earth wave to form. Sending it directly at the dazed pirates. The earth wave kept growing until it crashed into the enemies in front of them.
"Thank you for the moves Bumi. They will certainly come in handy from now and onward." thought Joseph smirking.
"Woohoo! Man ain't that some shit. Don't hold back on my account. Let's finish these fuckers off." said Landon laughing.
"Yeah let's do it." said Joseph
Landon charged at the remain pirates on their side and expertly dodged all of their strikes, while countering with quick and precise cuts across the enemies throats.
"Fucking hell. This guy looks like the class clown type of guy, but now I'm starting to see more reasons not to fuck with him when it comes to swordplay." said the voice
"Yeah quick and precise. A deadly combination." thought Joseph
Joseph followed Landon's lead, pulling out his machete and cutting down any surviving pirates. After effectively eliminating all of their current opponents the two men looked towards Chamberlain's fight against the pirates to the front of the checkpoint.
"You filthy criminals. I will cut you down and toss your bodies to the dogs!" yelled Chamberlain impaling a pirate with his cutlass.
"Aaaaah, will one of you mongrels kill him already! John is giving me enough shit as it is." said a finely dressed pirate angrily.
"He doesn't look like a regular pirate." thought Joseph
"Yeah he looks a bit too fancy to be running around with this lot. Actually he might be the one leading them. Especially with the way he is barking orders at the rest of them." said the voice
Joseph quickly noticed a pirate sneaking up behind Chamberlain. Sprinting forward Joseph pushes his palm forward and sends the pirate flying thought the trees using a strong gust of air. Chamberlain turned quickly to just witness his would be attacker fly off.
"Thanks kid. Now let's show this scum how marines fight." Chamberlain smirked
Nodding, Joseph took his machete and buried it straight down into an incoming pirate's shoulder.
"Arrrrgh!" the pirate yelled in pain.
"Joseph look out!" Chamberlain yelled
"What?" said Joseph
Turning around Joseph noticed the large pirate raising an axe in the air, preparing to hit him. Pulling his machete out of the smaller pirates shoulder, Joseph tries to defend himself.
"Take this!" screamed the large man
But before the pirate could hit Joseph, a bullet quickly found it's way into the pirates eye socket. The large man fell to the ground with blood pouring from his skull.
Joseph looked around and saw Polemon give him a wave.
"Your welcome." said Polemon smirking.
"Cheers." said Joseph with a smile.
"Uh hey guys! A little assistance here." said Landon
Landon was stuck in a defensive position as three pirates started to fight him at once. Landon was parrying their swords as best as he could, but the pirates using their superior numbers started to push Landon's attacks back little by little.
"Shit!" said Landon parrying another attack with his sword.
"Landon catch!" yelled Joseph
Joseph picked up one of the fallen pirates pistol and through it to Landon. The young swordsmen caught the pistol with his left hand and shot one of his attackers in the face. Momentarily distracted, the pirates stopped the intensity of their attack and Landon overpowered the two remaining men. Pushing the two pirates back, Landon lowered the pistol and shot both pirates in the leg.
"Aaaah!" screamed one of the pirates
"You bastard!" yelled the other pirate
Landon's only response to the two criminals was shooting them both in the head, killing them both.
"Shouldn't have fucked with us then." said Landon
"I think the pirates on the right have been cleared up. Landon stay with me, Joseph go help Julia and Pandora." said Chamberlain ordered.
"On it." Joseph responded
Joseph moved quickly to the left hand side of the large trail and saw over a dozen dead pirates scattered over the blood stained grass. In those brief moments he could see Pandora expertly dodged and incapacitate her opponents by striking their pressure points. While Julia took a more brutal approach, ruthlessly stabbing any pirate she could get her hands on.
"How can someone who looks so weak be so strong?" asked a pirate before being struck in the side of the head by Julia's fist.
"You would be wise to remember that just because something looks weak does not mean it is." said Pandora laughing lightly.
"Damn ain't that some shit. She just flipped over a couple of pirates and took them all out. Actually she kind of reminds me of Ty Lee in regards to those moves she is using in my opinion." said the voice
"I know right." thought Joseph agreeing.
Joseph took another look at Julia and saw her stabbing a pirate in the eye.
"DIE, DIE, DIE!" yelled Julia as she repeatedly stabbed the poor pirate.
"And do not get me started on the other one. There was a lot of excessive knife wounds in a few of those bodies." said the voice
Julia removed her dagger from the mans eye and moved the blade down towards his crotch.
"Oh no don't tell me she is going to do that." thought Joseph
"You won't be needing this in hell." said Julia coldly.
Joseph looked in shock at Julia thrusting her dagger into the pirates crotch and twisting her dagger in the process.
"Fucking Christ! Did you see that shit?" said the voice
"Yeah I saw. It looks like the girls definitely have it covered here." thought Joseph
Soon enough the number of pirates continued to dwindle. The surviving pirates that were not completely incapacitated tried to crawl away but were shot in the back by the marines, preventing their escape.
"Okay that looks like we got most of them." said Joseph
Joseph looked to see the finely dressed pirate freaking out, while being surrounded by a small group of pirates protecting him.
"You idiots! Bring me the head of the commodore now!" screamed the fancy pirate
"But sir the odds are against us. We should just retreat now." said a random pirate
"Just shut the fuck up and do it. Cause if we don't kill him, we are going to be dead anyway." said the fancy pirate
"Okay fuck it! Boys were making a last stand!" yelled the pirate
The final group of pirates charged to the checkpoint but were stopped by the marines firing line. The sailor's shot down the pirates with a volley of gun fire. Seeing his men now either defeated or dead, the fancy pirate starts running away to avoid being killed. Chamberlain starts running after him and tackles the pirate to the ground before he could gain a large distance between them. The pirate struggled to get out of the commodore's grip.
"Fucking let go of me you bastard!" yelled the fancy pirate
Chamberlain punched the pirate in the back of the head.
"You would do best to keep quiet. We are going to have a 'nice' little chat after this." said Chamberlain hitting the pirate again.
The fancy pirate made no more further movements. Chamberlain turned the pirate over and check to see if he was still alive. Hovering his hand over the man's mouth, Chamberlain noticed that the man was still breathing. Checking his pockets, Chamberlain pulled out a large folded piece of paper.
"Still alive huh. Oi will one of you carry this sack of shit back to camp." said Chamberlain getting up off the ground.
"Yes sir, but where will we put him?" said a random marine
"Tie him up and gag him too. I want him place in a secluded tent away from the civilians and make sure there is at least two people watching over him." said Chamberlain
"Yes sir!" said the marines
Two marines picked up the unconscious pirate's body and started carrying him back to camp. Joseph noticed Chamberlain held up a large piece of paper. Walking over the officer, Joseph was curious to what Chamberlain took.
"What do you have there?" asked Joseph
"I'm about to find out." said Chamberlain
Opening the folded paper, the two marines saw that it was another copy of the map that Joseph took from Francis.
"Well, well, well. Same marked locations and everything." said Chamberlain
"Yeah. Looks like that scumbag wasn't just a generic goon if he had his hands on this." said Joseph
"Or he was stupid and stole it." said Chamberlain
"Yeah, but hey I think we should." started Joseph
"Oi we did it we won!" interrupted Landon happily.
"Landon! Can't you see they were talking. I swear if you interrupt one more time I will put your head through one of those trees." Polemon warned
The two started arguing again causing both Joseph and Chamberlain to start laughing.
"Hahaha, I swear those two will never stop doing something like that ever." said Chamberlain smiling.
"I know right. So ridiculous those two." said Pandora sneaking up behind Joseph.
"Aaah!" yelled Joseph as he turned to see Pandora standing right behind him.
Pandora just giggled at Joseph's shocked expression.
"When did you get behind me?" asked Joseph trying to recover from the jump scare.
"I was here the entire time." said Pandora with a smile.
"Next time give me a little warning eh." said Joseph
"Sure I will." said Pandora giggling.
"Ah never mind." said Joseph tiredly.
"So Joseph, you were about to say something before. What was it?" asked Chamberlain
"Oh yeah. The attack here has sparked some concern over our safety. The fact that if it wasn't for our quick arrival, the men here would have been overwhelmed and killed. My suggestion now considering that we have another copy of the pirate's map, that we head to a few of their storage facilities and either take what is not bolted down or we destroy it all." said Joseph
"You want to do this now?" Chamberlain asked
"Yes, the amount of pirates here would be nothing but a bunch of small fry. We need to hit them where it really hurts, their supplies. We take things like their food and destroy their weapon supply, the men would get desperate. As with most pirates, their selfishness will overcome them." said Joseph
"I like the idea. Where do you suggest we start?" asked Chamberlain
"The map shows two main storage camps not too far from this checkpoint. While this road goes from the main town to the hideout, the trail is quite long. I have a theory that this group might be from one of those camps. But he only way to know for certain is to check." said Joseph
"So we sent in two teams to sweep the area to see if there are any criminals in the camps." said Chamberlain
"Exactly, if my theory is correct there should only be a small number of guards. There is a weapons storage and a food storage camp near here. Off to the west of this trail would be the food storage camp and a little further down is the weapon camp." said Joseph
Chamberlain nodded at the plan Joseph was proposing.
"Okay this is acceptable. So how do you want to go about this?" asked Chamberlain
"Alright. I want you, Polemon, Julia and another two marines to go with you to the food storage camp to collect as much food as you can. While you are doing that Landon, Pandora and myself will head to the weapons camp to retrieve ammunition and destroy anything we won't be needing." said Joseph
"Then we better not waste time then. Get Landon and Pandora, you have work that needs to be done." said Chamberlain
Joseph nodded and turned his attention to Landon and Polemon.
"Oi can you two please knock it off we have work to do." said Joseph smiling.
Landon stopped arguing and looked over his shoulder.
"What work?" said Landon curiously.
"You, Pandora and myself are going to raid a pirate weapon camp. We'll use this event here as a distraction to make a counter offensive against some of their supply hubs. They will not be expecting any of us to attack them right now, so this would be an ideal time to strike." said Joseph
"Hehe, okay I'm in." said Landon
"Me too." said Pandora
"Cool. Alright commodore, we'll meet back at camp." said Joseph
"Just be careful. I don't want to lose our new member so soon." said Chamberlain
Joseph nodded and walked off. Landon and Pandora following close behind him to their next destination.
[Aiwei Island/Weapon camp]
[Twenty minutes later]
(Joseph's point of view)
The trio came close to the camp and hid between the trees to obscure them from sight.
"Okay I think this is a good spot. Now let's see what were dealing with. Look around for any guards." said Joseph
"I don't see any from here." said Landon
"Wait be quiet. I think I hear someone." said Pandora
Two pirates came into view of the trio. One of the pirates lowered his rifle to light a cigarette that was already in his mouth.
"Come on man you can't be fine with the rest of the guys leaving us to guard this shit shack." complained the pirate
"I'd rather be here than near the front lines that's for sure. I mean I don't want to get a bullet put in me because John orders us to run at the marines with all we got." said the smoking pirate
"I suppose, but they'll get all the credit for taking those cowards out and we'll be sitting here like a bunch of chumps." said the pirate
"John already thinks we are a bunch of chumps. Makes no difference to me." said the smoking pirate
"He's so useless." said the pirate
"I wouldn't say that to his face. The man is an alcoholic, but make no mistake he is a mean bastard." said the smoking pirate
"Yeah yeah. Hey I'm going to head in and take stock of what we have before the others get back." said the pirate
"Okay then. I'll be out here if you need me." said the smoking pirate
"It looks like there are only two guys down there." said Landon
"What's the plan?" asked Pandora
"Pandora you sneak down there and take him out quietly. Landon I want you to sneak down after Pandora and take a look around for any valuables outside." said Joseph
"And what about you?" asked Landon
"After Pandora takes down the guard at the door, I'll head through the door and kill the pirate inside and we see what they have in there. That's my plan. So we good to go." said Joseph
"Yeah I'm ready." said Pandora
"Same." said Landon
"Well here I go." said Pandora taking out a small dagger.
Joseph observed Pandora quietly sneaking towards the guard, making sure to use the crates scattered around the camp to provide herself with cover. The guard turned around and gave Pandora the opportunity to move in closer. A moment later as the guard threw his cigarette on the floor, Pandora came up close and pounced on the guards back. Before he could utter a single word, the young woman's dagger found itself embedded into the pirates neck. The only sounds that could be heard from the pirate were muffled gurgling sounds.
"Damn." said Landon
"Yeah your telling me." said Joseph
Pandora looked over to Joseph and Landon's position and waved.
"Okay it's go time." said Landon
The two teens walked into the cam quietly. Landon went off to search the crates while Joseph walked up to the door of the small structure.
"I'll take care of him." Joseph whispered
Pandora nodded and picked up the dead pirates rifle for safety.
"Remember I have you covered." whispered Pandora
Joseph pulled out his machete and open the door as gently as he could. He slowly made his way in and noticed the pirate inside counting the inventory.
"Fifty new rifles, two thousand bullets, a hundred pistols and three crates of explosives." said the pirate with a clipboard
Sneaking up behind the pirate, Joseph grabbed him and put his machete up to his neck.
"What the fuck!" yelled the pirate struggling.
Joseph slit the man's neck open with his blade and let the pirate drop to the floor bleeding.
"Hey Joseph is everything okay in there." said Pandora whisper yelling.
"Yeah we're all good now get Landon and come in here, we have some new toys to take back to camp." said Joseph
A moment goes by as Joseph takes a few rounds of ammunition and reloads his pistols that were empty from the fighting before.
"So we good." said Landon walking in with Pandora behind him.
"Yep now we need to figure how were going to get this stuff back." said Joseph
"There was a cart around the back. We can load up some of the stuff on in it, but we would have to push it ourselves." said Landon
"No problem. We load it up, you and I push it back to camp and Pandora covers us with the rifle in her hand." said Joseph
"We'll let's get started then. What are we taking?" asked Pandora
"We will start with the rifles, then the ammunition and grab two of the explosive crates. After we've loaded everything up, we'll push the cart a small distance down the road. Then I'll blow the place up with the remaining explosives." said Joseph
"Yeah we got it." said Landon
"Alright let's get to it then." said Joseph
Joseph and Landon started carrying the weapons, ammunition and two of the explosives crates out to the cart Landon had moved to the front of the large metal shack. After an hour of getting everything into place the two secured their cargo using rope found around the camp and began to push it out to the main road. The two men kept pushing with Pandora walking on the side with her rifle keeping watch. The three then stopped in the middle of the road a small distance from the camp.
"Okay I'm going to go set off the remaining explosives. You two stay here and stand guard." said Joseph
Landon and Pandora both nodded. Joseph quickly ran back to the weapon's camp and went inside the shack. Grabbing the last explosives crate, Joseph takes out his pistol and smashes the crude lock off of the wooden crate. Taking out a bundle of what looked to be dynamite, he unravels the long fuse wrapped around the bundle. Joseph places the explosives in the middle of the shack and unraveled the long wire. Once the fuse was complete unraveled, Joseph stood outside the shack ready to ignite the fuse. Joseph steps back and punches a small fire blast at the fuse, igniting it. Joseph then quick ran back to the others.
"That was quick. Everything good to go?" Pandora asked
"Yeah now we just have to wait for the..." started Joseph
[BOOOOOOOM!]
The sound of an explosion raged through the groups ears. Joseph looked to see a large smoke cloud emerge from the camp site.
"Fucking hell that's loud!" said Joseph holding his ears.
"Your telling me, argh!" said Landon holding his ears in agony.
"I hope I'm not deaf." said Pandora shaking her head.
"Can you here me?" asked Landon
"Yeah I think so." said Pandora
"Then you aren't deaf are you." said Landon sarcastically.
"Oh be quiet you and get to pushing." said Pandora
"Okay come on let's get going." said Joseph walking to the cart.
The trio continued on there way back to the hideout carefully watching that a group of pirates don't appear out of nowhere. Not long after they pass the checkpoint and head straight to their destination soon after.
[Resistance Hideout/Aiwei Island]
(Joseph's point of view)
"About time we got back. I swear it doesn't look like a lot but this shit was hard to move." said Landon tiredly.
"Yeah I know." said Joseph exhausted.
"Come on you two. You both lived, you'll be fine." said Pandora putting her rifle on top of the weapons cart.
"You didn't have to push the damn thing." said Landon
"Okay look today's been pretty hectic so far. Why don't you guys rest up for now. We still have some more work to do later." said Joseph
"Okay." said Pandora
"Cool see you later man." said Landon
Joseph gave a head nod as the two walked away. Joseph saw a couple of marines close by standing around.
"Hey you guys, come here!" said Joseph loudly.
The group turned to see Joseph and quickly jogged over and saluted him.
"Yes sir." said the group of marines
"Whoa this is different. I do not know If I will get use to this." thought Joseph
"Okay men. I've just come back with a cart full of weapons, ammunition and explosives. I need you all to push the art to a safe location away from the civilian's tents and make sure you boys are careful with the contents. So off you go, I need to report to the commodore." ordered Joseph
"Yes sir." said the group of marines
The marine group went over and started pushing the cart away. Joseph watched as the group left and looked to his watch to check the time.
"It's only eleven O'clock. I'll be damned, I thought this would have taken longer." said Joseph
"Okay that's finished. Now I need to report back to Chamberlain now." Thought Joseph
Joseph walked to Chamberlain's large tent to inform him of his findings. Joseph walked in to see Chamberlain writing down some notes in his little notebook.
"Sir, I have returned." said Joseph
Chamberlain looked up to see Joseph and smiled.
"So you are. Please tell me how your mission went." said Chamberlain putting his notebook into his pocket.
The young marine explained his raid of the weapons camp alongside Landon and Pandora. Giving the details about what they were able to bring back with them.
"Ah new firearms, ammunition, explosives. Damn fine work petty officer." said Chamberlain
"Thank you sir." said Joseph
"I should also tell you that we had similar results with there food storage camp as well. We took everything that wasn't bolted down and I can officially say we are good on food for now." said Chamberlain smiling.
"Excellent." said Joseph
"Now on to more important business. This attack and our subsequent raids on John's supply camps have caused us to rush in our plans. But now we have pushed the pirates out of this area for now, we need to keep up this momentum or we'll be back to square one or worse." said Chamberlain
"Do you suggest we do something now or wait a few hours for some of the others to rest up sir?" asked Joseph
"I would be a good idea to advance ahead, but we do not have the man power to carry out any large assaults. I think your idea about night raids would be a good solution." said Chamberlain
"Thank you sir. But with all due respect with what has happened at the checkpoint, John will find out something is up if several dozen of his men don't turn up." said Joseph concerned.
"Ah but that is where things get interesting. We checked the other camp and I came across a letter from John. These boys out here were guarding enough supplies to last them weeks. The letter I found says that John wants everyone that was stationed at those two camps to keep an eye on us and make sure were boxed in. He does not expect any of them to report for at least another two weeks. So we have around a few weeks before John is going to start to notice anything wrong." said Chamberlain
"So what do you suggest we do then sir?" asked Joseph
"From what the maps showed, there happens to be a few more supply cashes further away from here. We can try planning a night raid on them in the coming weeks. If we follow that idea, we should leave in the afternoon." said Chamberlain
"So we can be ready to strike by nightfall." said Joseph
"Exactly." said Chamberlain
"Okay what about the prisoner you took back with you?" Joseph asked
"Oh him? Yeah we have him tied up to a chair, in the tent further down from here away from the civilians. In fact I was going to ask you to interrogate him alongside myself. You'll need to learn these things anyway so I thought this could be a good exercise and we'll hopefully get some more information out of him that may benefit us later on." said Chamberlain
"Alright then lead the way." said Joseph
Chamberlain nodded and walked out of his tent with Joseph following behind him.
"Why did you decide to bring him in sir?" asked Joseph
"He definitely was the leader out of the group whom attack us. The way he was barking orders at them and the way he was dressed. Standing out like that gives off an impression." said Chamberlain
"Fair enough. So is this it." said Joseph walking up to the secluded tent.
"Yeah come on, let's go see our guest." said Chamberlain
The two men walked in to see the pirate tied to a chair without his coat and shirt on. Looking to the right hand side, Joseph can see that his possessions were lined up on a table. Joseph looked at the pirate's black leather trench coat more closely to see some intricate patterns sowed into the cuffs of the coat.
"Hmm, that coat looks about my size." thought Joseph
"Maybe we can take it when we are done here. It is not like he'll be needing it any more." said the voice
Joseph then turned to look at the three armed marines who promptly saluted.
"Is the prisoner awake?" asked Chamberlain
"He is sleeping now sir, we gagged him a few hours ago. He should be ready to interrogate now." said a random marine
"Okay then. Men I want you to stand guard outside. We'll deal with this trash, off you go." ordered Chamberlain
"Yes sir!" said the group of marines leaving the tent.
"Joseph, I suggest you roll up your sleeves for this one. It might get bloody." said Chamberlain taking his coat off his shoulders.
"Yes sir." said Joseph rolling up his sleeves.
Chamberlain took the rag out of the pirates mouth and slapped him hard across the face. Joseph could hear the loud slap clearly.
"Ugh! Where am I?" said the pirate
"Damn." thought Joseph
"Have a nice dream sunshine." Chamberlain sarcastically.
"What? YOU! RELEASE ME!" yelled the pirate
Chamberlain punched the pirate in the face for his outburst.
"OW!" said the pirate grunting in pain.
"Now you are going to tell my colleague and I what you were trying to accomplish in attacking our checkpoint. Now a basic attack I can believe, but explosives? Come on now. Even someone as dumb as you couldn't possibly believe that we wouldn't notice that." said Chamberlain
"Hehe, the attack was supposed to draw you out. I ordered all of my men to attack. The plan was to kill you and get the credit for ending the resistance." said the pirate
"Hmm was this John's idea or yours?" asked Chamberlain
"It was mine." said the pirate
"As I expected. If it were John's plan he would have came down here himself." said Chamberlain
"It doesn't matter. When John gets here, he will kill you all." laughed the pirate
"Oh I don't think so." said Chamberlain
"And why's that?" asked the pirate
Chamberlain reached into his left pocket and pulled out the letter from before.
"This letter says that you guys won't have any contact with John or his men for at least another few weeks. So what this means is your fucked." said Chamberlain
"Fuck you." spat the pirate
Chamberlain looked to Joseph.
"Your up kid. I'm going to wait outside and have a quick smoke. Try and get some information out of him. Don't kill him, unless you have a good reason to. But you can hit him all you like as long as he doesn't die." said Chamberlain walking outside the tent.
Joseph looked at the pirate and shook his head.
"Let's see how this goes." thought Joseph tiredly.
"Okay then. State your name pirate." said Joseph sternly.
"My name is go fuck yourself." said the pirate
"We can do this the easy way or the hard way." said Joseph
"Let me put this in words I think you will understand. Go kill yourself." said the pirate slowly.
"I guess he chooses the hard way. Do it kid." said the voice
Joseph punched the pirate across the face. A tooth came out as Joseph fist connected with the man's jaw.
"Argh!" grunted the pirate
Grabbing the pirates neck and squeezing tightly, he looks into the pirates eyes.
"Let's try this again. What is your name?" asked Joseph
"Hay...Hayashi. My name is Hayashi." said Hayashi
"See was that so hard?" said Joseph letting go of Hayashi's throat.
"Now Hayashi, here is what's going to happen. You are going to tell me what I want to know or give me information that can be useful to taking down John, Victor and all of the others. Understood, because if you don't I will put a bullet right in your fucking kneecap." said Joseph calmly drawing his pistol and pointing it to Hayashi's knee.
"What do you want to know." said Hayashi spitting out the blood in his mouth.
"Were you the leader of the band of idiots I fought out there a few hours ago?" asked Joseph
"Yes I was." said Hayashi
"How close were you to John?" asked Joseph
"I wasn't close to him really. I was just another guy he gave a title. Hell he sent us out here with no way of contacting for help, so I guess he doesn't really give a shit about me to be honest." said Hayashi
"What can you tell me about John's operations?" Joseph asked
"I don't know much. He's usually too smashed to say anything useful, but Victor still keeps him around." said Hayashi
"Hayashi I suggest you give me something useful or I shoot you. Choose wisely." said Joseph
"Fine, a few weeks back John came in staggering after a night of drinking and mentioned that Victor would be meeting with Gordon." said Hayashi
"A meeting about what exactly?" inquired Joseph
"I do not know what their meeting is about. What I do know is that John will be taking over for a few days while Victor is gone." said Hayashi
"Hmmm, So Victor will be gone for a couple of days eh?" thought Joseph
"How many pirates are on this island?" asked Joseph
"I'd say Victor has around five hundred men directly working under him and John has about two hundred give or take. Though I believe you guys lowered that amount earlier today." said Hayashi
"Hey kid. Ask him whether or not Victor is taking his men with him." said the voice
"Okay." thought Joseph
"So Victor is meeting with Gordon. Where are they going to meet and how many men will be with them?" Joseph asked
"He is meeting Gordon on Triburn Island. Victor is also taking a few ships along with him not just his own. He'll probably be taking the majority of his men with him as well. I'd estimate about a hundred men would be left here when Victor leaves."
"So that would leave roughly three hundred men and John." thought Joseph
"When is Victor leaving?" asked Joseph
"He's leaving... I can't. I can't tell you." said Hayashi
"Come on Hayashi. You were doing so well before, don't fuck that up now." said Joseph aiming his pistol to Hayashi's skull.
"I've told you enough." said Hayashi
"Pirate or not I would prefer you to pick the easy way, not the hard way. Because I can go the hard way and let me tell you it gets a whole lot more painful." said Joseph
"No fuck you. I've given you enough." said Hayashi
"So be it." said Joseph
Joseph holstered his pistol and punched Hayashi in the stomach. He then backhanded Hayashi across his face and kicked the chair he sat on to the ground. Hayashi's back was now to the floor, even as he was still tied to the chair.
"Aaaargh! Please wait stop. I'll tell you." said Hayashi in pain.
"When is he leaving?" asked Joseph
"He's leaving in ten days. After that John will be on his own to run this island in his absence." said Hayashi
"See was that so hard." said Joseph walking over to the table on the left.
Joseph rolled his sleeves back down and took Hayashi's coat at put in on.
"Well what do you know, it fits me perfectly. Thanks Hayashi." thought Joseph
Joseph walked outside to see the commodore smoking.
"Sir." said Joseph
"Ah Joseph. If the sounds of pain I heard in there are to indicate anything. I assume you have something for me then." said Chamberlain
"Yeah it's best we head back to your tent and discuss what needs to be done. I have some information that is going to come in handy." said Joseph
"Okay then, just let me grab my coat and we'll head back. I also see you took his coat as well. It looks nice." said Chamberlain
"Thank you sir." said Joseph
"I'll go in there now. Can you also call the guards to come back here." said Chamberlain
Joseph nodded and looked to see the three marines taking a smoke break.
"Oi, you three I need to speak with you." said Joseph waving over the group.
"Yes sir! Is there anything you need?" asked the group
"I need you to watch the prisoner. Our interrogation is over now." said Joseph
"Yes sir, we'll handle it." said one of the marines
Chamberlain walked back out of the tent with his coat in hand.
"Okay then let's head back now." said Chamberlain walking away.
Joseph followed the seasoned marine to discuss where to go from here. Will this new information Joseph has gained benefit him or do the opposite? Who knows.
Next Chapter: New friendships
Well that does it for this chapter of Justice. I hope you all are enjoying the story so far. I know that I enjoy typing it.
Joseph has just been through his first battle and many more will undoubtedly come after. He still needs to learn how to utilize his powers in combat, but that will come over time.
I'll add some more things about his abilities in future chapters.
Now I was suppose to upload this chapter last week but my laptop decided otherwise so I couldn't and I apologize for that. However it is here now and the next Chapter should be up by the weekend hopefully. So don't worry too much about things not happening fast enough or whatever. I also want to thank everyone who has followed or favorited this story. It definitely keeps me motivated to continue this story.
