Chapter 3
So now the Ruff-Ruff Pack was headed for the Lookout, and in spite of him being dumped by his boss, Dwayne decided to ride over to the Lookout and find Hubcap. Gasket was almost tailgating him at this point. Still, the bulldog wouldn't have any of it, since he declared he was in charge. Gasket wasn't having any of that either, because she wanted to be the boss.
Though they were heading for the Lookout, the pack had no idea that, thanks to some previous experiences including the mighty meteor that was housed in the Lookout, Ryder was already well-prepared. "Oh, I almost forgot," he said. "I added an EDS not too long ago."
"EDS?" Marshall asked.
"Emergency defense system. I just haven't linked it to my pup-pad yet. It needs Robo-Dog to activate it."
"I can do that for you, dude!" Zuma called.
"Thanks, Zuma!"
"No problem." Zuma activated the link on his pup-tag and said, "Robo-Dog, activate the emergency defense system!"
"Arf, arf!" Robo-Dog barked as he turned on the security system. As a result, when the Ruff-Ruff Pack got near the Lookout with intents to trash it and the doghouses that the pups slept in when they weren't instead functioning as vehicles, lasers began shooting at them.
"Ack!" Hubcap exclaimed. "Who's firing those lasers?"
"I don't know!" Gasket replied. "But we can't cause any 'wheel trouble' with these lasers firing at us. Time for my latest invention. Well, an attempt at one, anyway." She then barked to activate her pup-pack. "Ruff! Laser gun!" Out came a laser gun she had invented, which she then used to fire back at the lasers coming from the Lookout. Although it was disabling a few of the lasers at first, it only caused frustration for the birds trying to migrate, who promptly flew down to the Ruff-Ruff Pack and began pecking on their helmets furiously.
"Whoa; check it out, Gasket!" Dwayne had exclaimed. "One of your inventions really worked!" Then the birds came down to attack. "Or not!"
"AUGH! GET OFF ME, YOU STUPID PIGEONS!" Hubcap screamed.
Chase then grabbed his megaphone and began to speak into it. "Ruff-Ruff Pack! Stop! You're only going to get yourselves killed!"
"Robo-Dog, we have some disabled laser cannons that need fixed," Rocky reported through his pup-tag.
"Arf, arf!" Robo-Dog barked as he went to work fixing the laser cannons.
"Ruff! Net!" Chase barked, summoning the net shooter on his motorcycle. The net that shot out gathered up all the birds pecking on Hubcap's and Gasket's helmets. (The birds didn't attack Dwayne.) Skye then grabbed the net and flew the birds over to a different part of town, where she let them loose. The birds then regained their sense of direction and formed a V formation to fly to their real destination: south for the winter.
"Oh, thank you for saving us, brave blue puppy!" the Great Dane remarked.
"You're welcome. Now you can all stop this?" Chase asked. "Mayor Goodway said you are not to be in this town!"
"Exactly!" announced Mayor Goodway, who had secretly been following in her car. She got out before she made her presence known, and Chickaletta clucked.
"Your edicts don't mean a thing!" Hubcap protested. "We told you we'd be back to cause more trouble, did we not?"
"But you have such a cute chicken!" Dwayne put in, earning him nothing but blank stares from his two pack-mates.
Eventually the biker dogs gave up and decided to drive somewhere else, but they didn't leave Adventure Bay just yet. Instead, they rode all the way to the Moo Juice Dairy Farm, which was owned, operated, and managed by the town's top farmers, Al and Yumi. They did not know where they were going to, since they still weren't familiar with all of Adventure Bay. But Skye did.
"Ryder! Mayor Goodway! Now they're heading for Farmer Al's farm!" she reported.
"Then let's get going!" Ryder announced, and the group took off in pursuit of the gang once again as their leader set his pup-pad to speakerphone mode, but used it to call Farmer Al and Farmer Yumi.
Al's phone rang just as he was inserting more corn into the silo. "Oh. Phone's ringing," he said as he answered it. "Why, hello, Ryder; what can we do for you?"
"Secure your farm and protect your animals and crops," Ryder replied. "The Ruff-Ruff Pack is back, and they're heading right for your farm!"
"Oh, no; not the Ruff-Ruff Pack!"
"I'm afraid so!"
"I knew we hadn't seen the last of them!" Yumi sighed as the duo got right to work. All their animals amazingly cooperated, since even their cows and pigs were aware of what the Ruff-Ruff Pack could do. The only thing the farmers weren't able to do in time was get the doors to the barn closed, unfortunately, because both Hubcap and Gasket managed to destroy the doors and drive through the barn.
"Is this a drive-thru?" the boss dog snorted.
"I'll take mine to go!" Gasket added.
"You stupid bikers!" Al shouted. "Do you know how much it costs to replace these doors?"
"Not to mention the fact you scared the daylights out of our live stock!" Yumi added.
"Oh, no!" Skye winced. "Ryder, the Ruff-Ruff Pack just destroyed the doors to Farmer Al's barn, and they're not stopping!"
"Who knows where they're headed next?" Rocky added.
"I just want them out of Adventure Bay forever," Mayor Goodway added, "although they will pay for what they've done first."
"Skye, Chase, Wild Cat, stay on their trail," Ryder called. "Rubble, Rocky, I need you two to help fix the barn. Your motorcycle gear and pup-packs have the equipment needed for it."
"We're on it!" everybody called as they rode off to their assignments. Rubble and Rocky got to work fixing on the doors as instructed, while the others continued pursuing the Ruff-Ruff Pack.
Since Mayor Goodway was best friends with Yumi, the latter tried to console the former on what was happening. "How do you rate this one compared to the last one?" she asked. "Are they doing more damage, do you think, or is it about the same?"
"I guess I do tend to make a big production out of everything that isn't," Goodway replied, "but I think, realistically, it's about the same. All they really do is drive us nuts, don't they?"
"That's one way to look at it."
Just what was it going to take to stop these crazy biker dogs? Could they do it before anybody else got hurt? Would Mayor Goodway stop overreacting to everything? And on a different note, would Chickaletta actually start paying attention to everything for once?
