The Reunion

Prologue:

Landon's POV

You know, when Jamie told me she was sick, I couldn't believe it. It hurt me so bad, but not nearly as bad as when she ran away…and never came back. Two months later, we finished high school and I went to the University of North Carolina. We hadn't talked since that fateful night, so naturally, we didn't keep in touch. And as horrible as this sounds, I truly believed deep down that Jamie had passed away. I mean, obviously I didn't want her to die, but given the circumstances, I believed the inevitable had probably occurred. I lived my life, day by day, until I got that invitation in the mail…

Jamie's POV

I couldn't help but run. Why wouldn't I? I knew Landon wouldn't be able to help me, and I didn't want him to have to bear this burden that I had laid out right in front of him. And when he didn't call…or even acknowledge me…I knew I had been right to do what I did. We graduated and I continued living with my father, expecting to slowly fall apart until I finally passed. But the summer went by, and then six months…and another three months…until I went to the doctor and found out that I was cancer-free. Miracle, right? Not for me. I was still a mess about Landon. I needed him in every way, shape, and form. But as much as I needed him, I didn't think he needed me. So, I never got ahold of him. I went on with my life until that fateful day when I opened an invitation to attend my 10-year high school reunion. I never realized that Landon might attend, or even that I would see him there. But, once again, I was wrong.

The Reunion:

They had nothing to say to each other…but they knew they had to say something. She'd thought about him so much – he'd thought of her as well. She walked towards her first and last true love – she'd never gotten over him and, in turn, had never found anyone else. She felt like she was floating in some alternate universe. There seemed to be nobody else in the room as he held out his hand for her to grab. She took it, and before she knew it, he had instinctively wrapped his sinewy arms around her thin frame, hugging her tightly.

"Oh, Jamie," he gushed, "I thought I'd never see you again."

"I know, I know," she sighed. Suddenly, fully realizing who she was talking to, Jamie began to get nervous. She gulped as she managed to squeak out, "How are you, Landon?"

"Just fine…just fine. And you?" he asked as they sat down.

Conversation seized as a dark-haired, 30-something year-old woman hurriedly walked up to the table. She seemed oblivious to Jamie as she said, "Landon, the babysitter just called. Alex fell off his bike and he's in the ER. She needs us home as soon as possible."

Jamie looked questioningly at Landon as he said, "Jamie, I'd like for you to meet my wife, Nicole…"

A/N: I know this story is probably really bad, but please don't bash me! In fact, try reading my other stories…they're much better 'cause I just wrote this today and have been working on the others for a long time. Thanks!
