Hey everyone sorry if this one is a little shorter than you were expecting. Enjoy the little update before I continue Arc 2.
Subaru opened his eyes he was sitting in a chair. What day is it? Subaru heard someone knocking at the door.
"Who is it?" Subaru called out.
"Subaru it's me, Emilia," Emilia responded from the other side of the door. The first day in the mansion but after the encounter with Rem, but still before I was hired. At least the save point isn't two minutes before death this time. The memory of Roswal standing over him flashed in Subaru's mind. Bea- Not th- Beako, why? STOP!
Subaru forced his mind to focus on reality. He stood up and walked toward the door to speak to Emilia.
While Subaru went to speak to Emilia another member of the mansion was planning.
Roswal L. Mathers was analyzing the text of his copy of the book of wisdom. Interesting so the future has gone exactly as predicted. Rem attempted to attack my new guest. Perfectly in line with the text. In fact, everything, since he arrived, has gone perfectly. The clown's smile widened. Until Roswal's instincts began to tell him something was wrong.
What is this feeling? Everything has gone perfectly. Too perfectly. Roswal realized what was bothering him. There are always some deviations. But since yesterday morning there have been none. There should already be minor deviations. Roswal's smile reversed into a deep scowl.
Roswal had another feeling in his gut. It felt like someone was watching him. Roswal acted on his instincts and opened the book again. Roswal's eyes widened. The text of the gospel was different. His mind shifted to his gate. Roswal's eyes began to change from wide to narrow. The text from yesterday until now shows differences to the current present. But it didn't earlier.
Roswal stood from his seat. He raised both of his hands manifesting orbs of mana above his hands. Roswal was ready for a fight. Someone is tampering with the gospel. How? Roswal's eyes searched his office. He found no trace of anyone. But his instincts told him someone was there. Someone is here in the room with me. My instincts have not been wrong since I fought Hector.
But still, Roswal's physical senses were unable to find anyone.
Roswal heard a faint whisper. It was a voice. Who is that? Roswal's instincts flipped. His instincts now told him that everything was perfectly fine. No that isn't right, but I should trust my instincts. Right? Roswal's mana began to fade back into his mind. My instincts are telling me everything is fine. But the last time I didn't question them at all…
Roswal's mind flashed back to that day four hundred years ago. Back to the day when his entire body was turned into a bloody pulp.
Roswal raised his hands and once more he readied his mana. Something is wrong with my instincts. This is not the time to fully trust my gut. The entire office began to shake from the force of the magic in Roswal's hands. I need to be ready-
Roswal felt the soft touch of a girl's hand on his right ear. The room stopped shaking. Roswal was too shocked to keep his mana ready. No, no, no, no. It can't be her. It can't be her. He felt her breath on his ear. It's her. She's here. She's here. Why is she here? Please. No.
For the first time in four hundred years, Roswal was afraid.
He heard the entity behind him inhale. Please. No. Roswal could feel her stop inhaling. He could feel her get ready to speak. Why are you here Pand-
"Your memories deceive you."
Roswal finished looking at the gospel. Today's outcome has been satisfactory. Some deviations have occurred but nowhere near enough to warrant any action yet. Although there is something here that could become a problem. If this continues I'll have to send a letter to Elsa to correct it. If he stops the mabeast invasion before it happens there will be issues getting Emilia to the throne. Arlam is a good starting point for Emilia's support after all. Well, that is a problem for tomorrow's Roswal. I don't have enough information as today's Roswal.
Roswal stood up from his seat. His instincts told him that everything was fine. My instincts have not been wrong since Hector they won't start being wrong now. And my mind is inclined to agree with them.
Roswal chose to trust his instincts, and then he began to walk through the hallway of his mansion towards the dining room. He was quite hungry, after all analyzing the future was taxing work.
A small smile formed on the witch's face as she watched Roswal leave the room. "My, My that one is easier to manipulate than I thought. But, I guess he has been that books puppet for four hundred years. I just have to pull those strings in a different direction." The platinum-haired girl oozed an air of satisfaction.
Again sorry about the length, but I felt this scene worked much better if it was on its own. I'll see you guys with chapter seven in a few days.
