She knows that she should be listening to whatever it is that Aiden is telling her, but Spencer can't focus. She's staring past his face, over his shoulder at the brunette lying down on one of the lunch tables. She's watching the steady rise and fall of her chest, the stony expression never changing despite her feet tapping vigorously on the metal seat along with the music blasting from her headphones.

Spencer feels a hand cover hers, and looks over at Aiden, eyes confused from being startled from her thoughts. He just smiles knowingly, head jerking in the general direction of the moody girl.

"She's hard to be with." And Spencer can only nod her head, a heavy sigh and forced chuckle.

She knows all too well now how hard it is to be Ashley's girlfriend. It's never smooth sailing. It's rocky, and it's repeatedly knocking Spencer off her feet in a whirlwind of damaging words that were never meant, harsh glares, and hurt eyes. Arguments are a constant, as is the making up with kisses and whispered apologies.

But it kept building until the emotional rollercoaster was taking its toll on the blonde. Until she finally snapped and walked out on Ashley one afternoon, needing time and space.

That was a week ago, and she hasn't spoken to her since.

"But she's worth it, Spencer." A long pause follows.

She nods and stands and smoothes down her skirt, slowly walking over to the girl. She watches as her shadow eclipses the face in front of her, blocking out the bright afternoon sun. One brown eyes peeks open before closing again, but Spencer watches her pause her music. Waiting for Spencer. Waiting for anything.

But Spencer says nothing. She only sits down next to the legs resting on the seat. Slowly and casually, she reaches a hand over and gently finds Ashley's fingers, lacing them together. Ashley is looking at her again, and starts playing her music again, but she doesn't pull away. And for Spencer, as she rests her head to the side, using Ashley's thigh as a pillow, that's enough for now.
