"The champions name became a rallying cry, a reminder that the mighty Templars could be defied. She had defended the mages against a brutal injustice, and many lived to tell the tale. The circles rose up and set the world on fire. More Templars arrived at Kirkwall to restore order, but we were already long gone. We vanished into the hills and circumstances eventually forced us to leave the champion's side...Well, all of us except for Fenris. You still hear the stories of course. With each telling they grow even if at the core remains the truth…a new legend had been born…" In awe, I lie on my front as I listen to uncle Varric's tale trying to filter out his gurgled noises. Urgently, I pass him the bucket for him to spew his insides into as I watch on concerned for him.
"Are you sure you don't want me to try out my magic uncle? It may help you with your sea sickness?" Concerned, I offer my uncle who smiles softly at me, a warmth in his browns appreciating my words as I anxiously twirl my staff about as the gentle rock of the boat moves us from side to side, similar to that of a mother cradling me in her arms when I was a babe, a tiny babe at that, according to Auntie Merill, they didn't think I would make it.
"I'm fine why don't you go outside. I'm sure you'll love the scenery." Strained, uncle smiles at me as I nod, deciding to give him peace, a part of me feeling bad for asking him to retell the story of mum and auntie and uncle. Well, all of my family, I always love the tale but forcing my uncle to do it when he's clearly ill, I can't help but feel bad!
Frowning, I furrow my brow as I leave uncle Varric with some piece of mind to breath as I make my way up on the deck, my nose twitching at the salty sweet air of the sea, making me beam brightly as I make my way over to the edge, in awe when noting the faint figure of exalted council place I'm guessing.
"Someone's pouting…" Surprised, I perk up at the voice and turn to find surprisingly, uncle Varric barley making it up, noting my mother's concerned look as she sits down bathing in the sun almost. I note her doing some of her yoga, I've joined in sometimes alongside her meditation it helps especially if I'm angry or wanting to see my fade friends.
"I couldn't bring my hat…" Pouting I huff as I lean over the railing to look up in awe at the squawking seagulls flying above us.
"Which one?" Uncle Varric arches a brow, his bucket clutching tightly to his chest.
"I don't know because someone wouldn't let me choose." Snippily, I remark huffing crossing my arms over the other as I raise my voice playfully glaring at mum who simply arches a brow tiredly amused.
"It's a hat it's not your arm or leg." Sighing, mum calls out, unravelling herself from her mediation.
"It's an extension of myself." Pouting, I proclaim.
"Isn't that meant to be your staff?" Slyly, Uncle Varric remarks making me groan at the loveable bum.
"Urgh you guys just don't get it…I'm going to talk to my friends!" Huffing, I grumble crossing my arms.
"I expect you awake when we arrive!" Sternly, mum calls out to me making me roll my eyes.
"Don't take too long you know how your mother worries." Uncle Varric advises as I huff, I know what I'm doing I'm a dreamer after all like auntie Merill says I'm special, I can handle this well not everything I mean, auntie Merill did try to introduce me to blood magic but I don't like cutting myself it would hurt why should I hurt myself just for some power? Besides my spirit friends say it would make me struggle to return to the fade? Why give up my friends for some new power? I mean I can see the benefits I just could never do it.
"I knooow!" Moaning, I whine at the two, I know what I am capable of. I can handle it.
"You should hear them they just don't get it. Hats are so cool; they are so fluffy! Besides, it makes a cool pen like if someone asked me for an autograph or like hey do you have a pen and I'd be boom here you go! It's genius oh! Oh! Or like auntie, she told me once in one of her tales. She was kidnapped by some guy and her daggers were gone, the only thing she had was this poisoned feathered quill in her hat and she took all them down in one fell strike! That's so cool!" Gushing, I explain to my friends animatedly talking as I look up at the green sky noting the floating rocks as my spirit friends patiently listen, spirits of compassion swarm around me with a spirit of wisdom. I named one Cordy, the spirit of wisdom who warned me of blood magic and Sophia, she's super nice then again, she is a spirit of compassion.
"You seem to look up to them a lot!" The spirit of compassion points out.
"Well they are my family; I love them you know? I mean auntie Isabella is cool, but no one beats mum, don't tell her I told you that though. Hm? What is…fluffy. Fluffy!" Eagerly, I beam at the fluffy creature, a wolf I think as it watches from afar seated down. Giggling, I approach the fluffy wolf, planting my face in its fur, it's so fluffy!
"You're so fluffy!" Giggling, I rush over to the big ball of fluff as the wolf looks down at me confused, nudging me away as I hug it's super fluffy coat, it's so fluffy I want it! Imagine if I could ride him! That's so cool! We can never ride back home; we don't have any horses due to not having much land. The only thing I can settle with is when I get to ride on Uncle Carter's back or uncle Aveline's, sometimes they do press ups and count, I like counting with them it's fun!
"Keep away child…" Surprised, I blink at the stern male voice from the wolf.
"Why? Hey Mr doggy don't go! He's like auntie's Mabari…" Crestfallen I watch the wolf stand up and leave, fading within the fade, I guess.
"I should go mum doesn't like me gone. It was nice talking to you guys again!" Cheerfully, I say my goodbye to them as I wake up, returning back to reality.
"Welcome to the exalted court!" Brightly, uncle Varric greets me as I stand, adjusting the grip of my staff using it to help me stand from my mediation pose as I stand up, taking mum's hand as we depart from the boat and head towards the court.
"Be careful up there Dror!" Worriedly, mum calls out to me her arms crossed as I can't help but awe at the place. Easily, I find the vines I use to propel and climb up the snow white walls with golden plating, reminding me of armour almost as my grip tightens on my staff, twirling it about amazed at the views, the bright blazing sun smiling down upon the gleaming golden armour before me making me smile in awe. I note the pouch dangling down from my back fluttering from my frantic movements as I make my way up.
"It's beautiful!" In awe, I stare down at the people, my blues admiring the beauty below from the fashion, the languages to even the music below, my ears listen to the gentle melody of trumpets and singing bards, sneakily making about their days. I watch a crowd from around them as I find myself standing on the gap between the pillars as the bard performing looks up at me gently smiling softly, cheekily winking at me making me giggle as I continue climbing and exploring this exalted council of grandeur.
"Relax, Fox, the pup will be fine up there if he's anything like his mother." My ears listen to melodies wafting through my ears alongside the sweet smell of cheeses, essences, and all sorts only then to draw back to mum, remembering mum's lesson not to wander off. Struggling, I relish the urge the thrill the rush of adrenaline coursing through my veins, telling me, speaking to me, screaming at me to explore, to sightsee, to discover personally similar to my journeys through the fade stumbling across an array of flashes of locations I had never seen before in awe, exploring them and often asking auntie Merill about it. I remember asking my uncle Varric about it who then gave me a history book, it was then that he began giving me all sorts of amazing books, that I loved and cherished greatly and still do now.
"That doesn't mean I shouldn't worry…" I hear mum mutter crossing her arms over the other.
"Mum! Uncle Varric you got to look at this view its gorgeous!" Gushing, I call out to uncle and mum leaning over as I make my way back up to the walls, finding mum and uncle taking their time.
"I can't believe you wrote that book just for her…" Smirking, Mum shakes her head at uncle Varric, making me frown, seems I need to raise my voice.
"I promised her I would besides an author doesn't let their fan down even if they do have poor taste…" Cheerily, Uncle Varric remarks as I pout at the two impatiently moving my legs back and forth annoyance growing within my boiling blood at the two, I'm talking here!
"Mum! Uncle Varric!" Loudly, I call out to them again, peering over grimacing at my horse voice breaking briefly at my attempt.
"Just be careful up here pup!" Worried, Uncle Varric calls out to me.
"I will- AHH!" Screaming, I cry out as I trip over, my eyes widening as I call out for aid, helpless, my heart hammering terrified, feeling tears prick my eyes.
"Dror!" Panicked, Mum screams out lunging forward towards me arms outstretched only for my eyes to widen as I hear the swift swoosh of the air being cut making me squeak back. I am pushed back looking up to gape at the arrow embedded into the stone, cracks of porcelain showing above from the arrowhead. I dangle down, the adrenaline rushing through my vines as I beam brightly relishing the excitement. Urgently, both my uncle and mother rush over to my side. Frowning, my mother snatches, prying the arrowhead from the wall, debris, rubbles of plaster pouring out from the open wound as mum wraps her arms around me desperately clinging to me, bowing her head deep into my neck, releasing a shaky breath of relief as I feel her grip around me tighten.
"Don't you EVER do that to me again!" Sternly, mum raises her voice at me making me flinch back as she gently puts me down hands on her hips as I shyly turn to face her downwards, scared. Shaking, my fingertips entwine with my other hand fingertips head down ready for her scolding as I refuse to meet her terrifying sharp scary glare. Uncle Varric sighs, my uncle shaking his head at us. I note Mum almost battling with herself, seething, her hands shaking bawling into a pair of fists as she turns her head to the side.
"Please don't…do that again." Weakly, mum pleads to me as I nod shyly as she storms off leading the charge leaving me and uncle Varric as I shyly lift my head watching her move on ahead of us.
"I didn't mean to…." Meekly, I whisper my head down in shame.
"We know that Pup it's just…don't take your mother seriously, I mean…your mother hasn't had the greatest role models for parenting. She is…your mother is still trying to adjust to being a mother." Calmly, Uncle Varric tries to explain to me as I furrow my brow.
"Was she…going to hit me?" Meekly, I whisper grimacing at the thought remembering my mother's short temper.
"Pup listen to me your mother would never lay a hand on you. Yes, your mother can be violent, but she has given so much for you. She is devoted to you. She loves you more than you realize, you gave her life purpose again." Earnestly, Uncle Varric assures me making my eyes widen at his words, mum sacrificed something to have me? What did she give up?
"I…I did?" Confused, I furrow my brow, what does he mean I gave her life purpose again?
"Yes. She just…you being hurt is the last thing she would ever want. Now come on I'm sure you'd love to see the Orlesian's fashions…" Warmly, Uncle Varric smiles at me placing his hand on my shoulder as he gently guides me inside.
"Well I do like masks…" I whisper smiling softly excited to see the designs and fashions of the Orlesian and Fereldan empires.
"I didn't know hair could grow on the face! I mean sure I knew it would grow on the head and chest like uncle Varric but never there!" Gaping, amazed, I gasp at the male with some strange hairstyle on his nose, I know I've seen some beards I mean uncle Carver tries to grow a beard but it never works for him weirdly enough, I mean the only real hair I see is uncle Varric's chest hair. So, to see one on someone's face styled like that is awesome! That must have so much prep behind it to style it that way!
"Uncle…Varric?" The dashing male blinks taken aback as I dangle down, greeting the Tevinter Ambassador, I've never been there whenever I ask about it, mum and uncle have this dark look in their eye its super scary it reminds me fo the look they give those bad guys, I asked auntie and the others about it but they always tell me when I'm older. Why do I have to be older? I'm mature for my age, I'm a dreamer, I'm a mage, I can handle it I can handle anything.
"You're so pretty..." Gushing, I can't help but praise his makeup, his eyeliner, to get it that smooth and straight takes years of practice.
"My, my seems someone has taste don't suppose you could get your hands off me now?" Awkwardly, he requests confusing me until I note my hands on his cheeks making my eyes widen, my features turning ruby red as I slowly remove my fingertips from his cheeks, giving him a shy sheepish broad grin, flustered over my awe.
"S-Sorry you're just really pretty like really, really pretty I love the eyeliner you went with!" Honestly, I confess to him glancing to the side flustered.
"Ah so you noticed, my, my and at your name. I see what you've done marvellous may I suggest some eyeshadow…" Impressed, he praises me making me beam brightly to be complimented with someone with such experience.
"Auntie Isabella says I can have that if she finds any," I recall remembering auntie's present for me and me eagerly wating, her often sending me letters with presents.
"Earn it? My dear you don't earn makeup you buy it." Smiling, the Tevinter informs me.
"Really? Auntie Isabella goes to these foreign lands and brings me back some makeup oh and lots of hats." Fondly, I smile at the memory of the numerous hats and gifts bestowed upon me, gushing at the super soft fluffy hats I often adored.
"Oh really what sort of hats?" Curious, he raises a brow at me.
"What's with big puffy feathers they are super cool" Excitedly, I gesture my hand outstretched into the air.
"Is that right? Now tell me little boy where's your mother?" Softly, he smiles at me kneeling down as I furrow my brow at his patronising tone.
"Probably at the bar." Bluntly, I answer making him furrow his brow.
"Oh…is that a staff?" Fascinated, he notes the staff strapped to my back.
"Yep, I'm a dreamer." Proudly, I declare hands on hips.
"A dreamer…is that right?" Intrigued, he raises a brow as I smirk proudly.
"…Hm? Wait is that…DOGGY!" Excitedly, I squeal taking the male aback as I lunge over the railing, my blue hues staring intently in awe at the barking beauty below me.
"Doggy! Doggy! Doggy!" Eagerly, I chant ignoring the Tevinter watching on in horror as I leap off the railing, rolling over and saving my fall. I dash over to the dog being pampered by some blonde guy. I think I saw him on one of those fancy horses with some other women being led by some other women, but that isn't what interests me.
"Why hello there…" Politely, the blonde greets me.
"Oh hi. Is he yours?" I question the blonde kneeling down, my hands scratching his belly making him woof in approval panting adorable as I can't help but squeal at the cute pattern, look at that face how could you hate that face!?
"That he is," Chuckling, the blonde confirms fondly staring down at the doggy.
"He's so cute, auntie has one at home, we call him Bacon! Auntie's cousin gave us him, we like riding on his back he's super funny and cuddly." Giggling, I recall the memory of Robin and I often playing with Bacon, me on his back with Robin or playing catch, fetch even chasing after Bacon, we even ran down the stairs together or we used to play hide and seek, we hide as he would seek us out due to his mabari senses. He always found Robin but never me, guess you could say, my flexibility gave me the advantage when hiding in that closet.
"Is that right? Can he fetch a stick?" Hopeful, I question him.
"Yeah can yours?" He asks passing me the ball making me beam brightly. I toss the ball only to furrow my brow as the mabari stares at me, quirking his head to the side staring blankly at me as if you fetch the ball now.
"…Not really no." Dejected, the blonde smiles sadly frowning playfully glaring at the panting pup.
"Oh…he'll get the hang of it he's just special like me!" Confidently, I assure the blonde, wrapping my arms around the panting Mabari's neck hugging him beaming brightly. I nuzzle into his panting muscular chest, he's so fluffy and so big, there's so much more room to love!
"Is that right?" Chuckling, the blonde laughs amused by my words.
"Yeah!" Brightly, I smile nodding my head eagerly to play with the pup only then to furrow my brow at the sound of footsteps, making me turn to face some freaky clown person, wielding blades. What are they doing here? They look creepy. Scary, I've never seen them before why do they wear so much makeup? Perplexed, I stare at the creature humanoid thing wearing a white mask with ruby red lipstick and eyes, curiosity flows through my veins as I follow after the creature.
"Whoa and I thought that vint's beard was cool yours is so big!" Gaping, I gasp at the bear human hybrid, my ears listening to the sharp scraping of metal as he tends to his blade, his brown hues widening as he turns to look up at me, staring down at him from the wide wall.
"Right…and you are?" Perplexed, he furrows his brow at me.
"No one important what are you doing?" Fascinated, I quirk my head to the side, why does he have such a big beard? I wonder if birds can nest in that beard. Looks like they could or maybe even mabari pups! Awww I am so going to draw that later…
"Practicing." Curtly, he answers grumpily, he reminds me of when uncle Carver and Uncle Fenris brood.
"Can I try?" Curious, I hop down from the wall startling him. Sneakily, I take one of his daggers, checking the weight, seems okay, not too heavy but not too light either.
"Are you sure? Mages don't seem to have the best forearms…a child at that." Warily, he furrows his brow his gloved hand reaching out to grasp the blade.
"It's cool my mum taught me a bit…Bullseye!" Brightly, I beam after amusing him as I simply flick my wrist it's all in the wrist after all. I smile, proud of my bullseye while the big guy seems stunned in silence as he stares down at me.
"How did you…? She must have taught you a lot." Impressed, he places his hand on his hip as I shrug.
"She taught me I shouldn't always rely on my magic for a fight." Calmly, I respond remembering my aunts often pestering me to practice magic. But mum and my uncle always making it a rule for me to learn swordplay and such with Robin.
A valuable lesson." Pleased, the bearded bear man tells me.
"Yeah hey doesn't food get in your beard?" Disgusted, I furrow my brow at the thought.
"No if I eat correctly…" Shyly, he shrugs.
"Seems a lot to manage all that hair." Unsure, I exclaim. I don't think I could have a beard, then again, I've never seen elves with beards, I wonder if we can grow them?
"You get used to it. Tell me where are your parents?" Concerned, he kneels down.
"Um Mum's talking to some important people." I mutter not sure what to say.
"And your father?" He probes making me scowl.
"Don't know don't have one. Do I need one?" Bluntly, I ask him, everyone seems to have one why don't I? Eh, doesn't seem a big deal, I mean I have mum and the others. Why do I need one guy when I can have a whole armada of awesome family members? I mean I have the vicount for an uncle that's awesome I can access so many books. Normal people wouldn't and I have the captain of the guard as an aunt figure too, meaning I can do any tricks if I'm careful that is.
"Well to exist you would…." Honestly, he points out.
"Oh I don't have one. Wait do I exist!?" Horrified, I gawk at the thought staring down at my hands, finding them not vanishing much to my thought as I hear the Bearman exhale tiredly.
"Yep. Hey, can I ask you something?" Interested, I ask him.
"Depends…" He trails off continuing to sit down and sharpen his blade.
"Those Orlesian guys, are they all bakers?" I wonder.
"What?" Perplexed, he furrows his brow.
"Those Orlesian guys with the poufy hats are they bakers?" I repeat my question.
"What makes you think that?" Chuckling, he raises a brow.
"The hat's all poufy…" Simply, I shrug.
"Oh…hahahaah! Afraid not. That lot have never been in a kitchen their whole life." Loudly, he laughs confusing me.
"Then why wear such silly hats?" I question referring to the ugly hats.
"Kid you're asking a century long question…" Smirking, he leans in amused by my conversation.
"Oh…hm? Oh pretty!" Amazed, I gawk when noting a sly slim figure watching on, a pretty Fox, it's fur as white as mummy's hair…I want it.
"Hey wait!" Easily, I ignore the soldier as I chase after the pretty Fox giggling as I chase after my new friendly companion.
"No wait Foxy don't run away…Hm Crows?" Pouting, I whine as I end my run to find the fox having slithered away only to perk up at the loud caw of crows making my eyes widen in awe.
"Hello." Slowly, I turn to face the blonde with the BEST hat EVER.
"Hello! Oh, my goodness I love your hat!" Amazed, I gush at the hat.
"Thank you, I like your staff." The blonde boy tells me smiling softly at me, only then to note the fox rushing into his arms as he happily hugs the fox.
"Thanks is that fox yours?" Curious, I question him.
"Yes would you like to pet her?" He asks making me beam brightly at the thought.
"Can I?" Hopeful, I request.
"Go ahead…" Gently, he assures me making me beam brightly as I reach out squealing internally at the cutie.
"She's so soft. Does your fox have a name?" In awe, I whisper worshipping the adorable creature.
"Fennec." Peacefully, he answers.
"No way really!? Whoa those crows look so cool do you mind if I draw them?" Eagerly, I ask taking out from my bag my quill and sketchpad as he quietly nods making me grin broadly.
"Awesome! They are so pretty ooh and the Fennec fox I want to draw her!" Eagerly, I begin talking mainly to myself as I attempt to do some rough sketches of the crows, eating the breadcrumbs on the table alongside the Fennic fox being held, mum will love these!
"Breadcrumbs if you continue giving them that they'll stay…" He advises me.
"Oh I'll go get some from the bar!" Eagerly, I offer rushing towards the bar only for my eyes to widen in awe at the humongous humanoid ox guy before me. I take a seat by his side as he drinks his ale.
"Shanedan." Politely, I greet the Qunari after having the barman give me a lot and ignore me making me pout at the rude guy, I just want some bread is that so hard?
"Hm? A bit young, aren't you?" Curious, the Qunari by my side questions me.
"Just here for bread…whoa you have horns! Mum always did say the Qun had horns, but I didn't think they were that big!" Impressed, I point out in awe. I've always wanted to see one, I mean I've seen a few but they always look so sad or stoic, does it hurt to smile for them? Doesn't it get cold in the winter for them? I asked before but was only answered by silence and a killer glare. I still don't get what I did wrong…mum simply dragged me away saying it isn't worth it. What knowledge isn't worth it?
"That's what they said." Slyly, he remarks chuckling lowly under his breath perplexing me.
"Whose they?" Confused, I furrow my brow at the thought.
"Oh um no one. Still you know Qunlat?" Impressed, he smiles down at me.
"A bit not much, I only know snippets from mum and uncle, my main interest is elven. That language is like dancing while Qunlat is like fighting, direct and to the point while Elven is the opposite." Gushing, I respond remembering aunty Merrill's teachings often confusing me. I mean some of the words aunt Merill taught me were completely wrong from what mum said, but she simply told me to entertain Aunty not to say anything not to correct her. It's so hard sometimes not to correct her, I mean some of the phrases she tries to teach me make me want to giggle at how wrong she can be sometimes.
"Is that right? A bit young for you though…" Warily, he furrows his brow at me.
"You can never be too young to learn something new." Brightly, I smile at the gift of knowledge.
"You know not many would sit by a Qunari." He informs me making me frown. I mean I know they seem scary but they seem cool, I mean they are like Mabari's they look scary but deep down have a heart of gold and we can ride them…I wonder if I can ride him?
"Why not those horns look fun to swing on." I argue making him release a loud booming laugh making me gawk how can he so be loud!? I'd love to have such a booming voice like that, mum does especially when she's angry I wonder if I will when I'm older.
"Heh, you could try you wouldn't be the first." Chuckling, he teases me.
"Wait would it be painful? I'm sorry…" Apologetic I furrow my brow at the thought.
"Wha? Nah don't be you got gut kids." He compliments me making me smile.
"I've never seen a Qunari before…" Shyly, I confess.
"You haven't?" Surprised, he raises a brow.
"No…well I mean I don't think so I've seen glimpses, but they usually run away from Mum before I can have a chance to look at them. You're giant!" I confess in awe beaming brightly at him.
"Damn right I am!" Booming, his voice rings out as he laughs.
"How do you fit in caves though? Like with those horns?" Fascinated, I quirk my head to the side.
"It's a challenge kid I'll tell you that much." Strained, he smiles at me.
"Why have you got an eyepatch?" I pry.
"A long story kid one I may tell you when you're older…" He offers as I smile at the thought.
"Ooh I'd love that!" Eagerly, I confess in awe at the thought only then to furrow my brow when seeing a familiar creepy clown thing.
"There you are! It was nice talking to you too!" Happily, I tell the Qunari guy leaping down from my seat as I chase after the creepy creature fascinated.
"Hey hold up! Urgh…ow…" Groaning, I hiss as I attempt chase after the weirdo only to gasp as suddenly, I am engulfed by fumes of coal black. Stunned, I stumble forward, hissing from the hard ground beneath me.
"Are you alright?" Gently, the voice questions me surprising me as I look up at the woman.
"Hm? I think so…ow my head. Whoa…Your hat is so big! Do you hit people with it!?" Excitedly, I question the woman standing up. She brings her hand back as I stand up by myself.
"How dare you do you know who you're talking to!?" Angrily, the male watching yells at me making me furrow my brow.
"A lady with a huge hat. And a guy with no manners." Bluntly, I deadpan at the fool dusting myself off.
"That is…how dare you!?" Angrily, he raises his hand to me only making me raise a brow at him.
"It is fine." Soothingly, the voice of the woman stops the male.
"But…" The noble idiot falters from her blue eyes sharply glaring at him.
"I said it is fine leave us." Sternly, she commands.
"Very well my lady." Politely, he bows as he gives me a sharp glare only for me to smirk as he struts off oblivious of the gentle tap of wood as small flickers of flames begin to engulf his fancy silk tailcoat as he storms off, ignorant of the inevitable danger to come.
"Are you sure you're alright?" Sweetly, the woman questions me.
"I'm fine this is nothing so who are you?" Curious, I question the woman.
"Oh, I am Leliana, the divine." She introduces herself.
"Divine? What's that?" Perplexed, I furrow my brow.
"It is…" She begins only for my blues to widen in awe when my ears perk up the faint sound of…
"Are those nugs?!" Excitedly, I gush at the cooties.
"Perhaps…" Teasingly, she smiles.
"They are so cute!" Gushing, I squeal as I pet the nug, bringing him into my arms nuzzling into his side.
"I suppose so…where are your parents' child?" She wonders concerned making me frown.
"Why do people keep asking me that? I can take care of myself besides mum's talking to some noble people." Huffing, I mutter irritated.
"Is that right?" Patiently, she whispers.
"Hey, have you seen a clown face?" I enquire.
"Clown face?" Lost, she furrows her brow.
"Yeah I was chasing after them, but they went missing." Sadly, I reveal.
"Perhaps you shouldn't they seem dangerous…" She advises me making me frown.
"I don't know about that I mean they seem a bit weird but just because they look weird doesn't mean they shouldn't be judged as evil you know?" Frowning, I reason making her beam brightly.
"You remind me of someone only well…less angry and careful…" Awkwardly, she glances to the side making me frown. I wonder who she's referring to? Whoever it is sounds like they need help.
"Oh yeah…I should go it was nice meeting you." I bow my head to them.
"It was nice meeting you too…I don't suppose you mind keeping my nugs a secret, I'm not meant to bring them here you see." Mischievously, she winks placing her forefinger on her lips making me nod copying her actions.
"Oh okay! I can keep secrets I keep a lot from my family!" Happily, I smile assuring the woman as I walk off leaving her with her nugs…
"Hey! Are you trying to be like a Qunari?" Loudly, I call out to the woman with a horn hat frowning when fortunately finding the creature again only for the harlequin having dispersed into some smoke, leaving me once more, making me grumble.
"I beg your pardon little boy?" Angrily, the horned woman turns to scowl at me.
"Your helmet they look like Qunari horns why do you do that?" Curious, I question her noting her flapping her fan more frantically.
"That has nothing to do with you and you have no right to be here!" Rudely, she sneers at me.
"You're not very nice, are you?" Scowling, I cross my arms.
"Oh, look the little boy's catching on…" Slyly, she remarks making my eye twitch.
"And the old hag is catching wrinkles." I counter making her browns dilate in horror only then to narrow into a pair of sharp knives almost.
"I beg your pardon!?" Furious, she raises her voice.
"If you won't be nice to me, I won't be nice to you! Treat others how you want to be treated yourself meanie!" Angrily, I poke my tongue at her closing one of my eyes at her as she gawks at me.
"What the!? You…You savage!" Seething, she bats her fan at me earning the staff's attention.
"Leave knife ear!" Surprised, I raise a brow at the strange name as they use a broom to brush me out of the room.
"Stupid horn witch! Also knife ear? What is that?" Perplexed, I whisper under my breath grumpily huffing, ignoring the faint stinging pain in my chest from those words. I mean what did I do wrong? Are my ears really that sharp? Shyly, my fingertips reach up to brush against my ears only then to flinch back, this is why I like hats when I wear hats, no one calls me that. Silently, I blink back the tears threatening to fall, remembering a few other words, people had called me and my family from knife ear to even a rabbit, I never understood that.
I mean what's wrong with rabbits? They are cute so why call us that? I remember when I asked Aunt Ave and I just remember her face, when I told her while I was running about. Then I had tripped from some recruits who had called me that, her face was super scary it was the face, she pulled when she was about to punch someone. I thought I was going to be a victim, but she simply knelt down and asked me calmly, who called me that so I answered. Next thing I know those guards had left. I remember someone calling auntie that, a shop keeper I think, uncle Fenris and auntie was fuming, I wonder how that keeper is six feet in the ground. Still don't get why he had to go down there, there isn't much to do down in the ground. I think so anyway, maybe I'm wrong.
"Oi kid!" Surprised, I furrow my brow at the voice.
"Hm?" Slowly, I turn to face the grinning girl.
"Want to have some fun?" Eagerly, she offers making me furrow my brow taking a step back at the stranger.
"I don't know…. mum told me if someone ever said that to me I should scream or zap them with magic." Shyly, I whisper looking down at my twitching hands ignoring the brief sniffle, what did I do that was so wrong? Did dad leave because I was a knife ear?
"Come on it'll be fuuun…" The blonde offers me as I furrow my brow unsure.
"I do like fun…" Meekly, I whisper as I nod my head agreeing to follow the stranger who grabs my wrist making me squeak back in shock. Quickly, I am dragged back inside through some sort of secret passage where we come in undetected.
"Right you know what to do?" Cheekily, she turns to me as I nod and watch her giggle loudly attracting the staff's attention as they get out a familiar broom, telling the knife ear to leave as slyly, I make my way inside finding two women with cheese wheels on their eyes? That's weird!
"How have you been dear? With the commander?" Snootily, the annoying voice calls out.
"It's been fine, I guess. I mean we've bene spending more time together and tis bene great, I've met the family but…" Sadly, the meanie's friend calls out.
"But what my dear?" She prompts.
"No, it's…it's nothing. I wonder if Fen will be here?" Hopeful, the meanie's friend wonders.
"You want that knife eared savage here?" Disgusted, she spits out making me scowl.
"She's my friend Vivienne!" Sternly, Vivienne's friend disputes.
"She's a savage, a power-hungry slut who thanks to her and her fool of an abomination friend, killed dozens! I'm sorry dear but I had hoped you would cut that savage loose. She is nothing more than trouble for you." Enraged, I feel my hands bawl up tightly around my staff, almost hearing the faint crunch of it breaking from the bully's cruel words towards mother. She has no idea what mum did, I don't know either and Merill isn't an abomination nor is auntie Hawke so who on earth is she on about!?
"You mean for yourself; I doubt being associated with the mage rebel savour helps with your want to be an enchanter of the circle…" Snidely, the woman remarks to the evil meanie.
"…I'm simply concerned for you my dear that girl either brings trouble or causes it." Seething, I feel my blood bubble, boil even at the nerve of this nobody saying such things about mummy.
"And that girl is my friend." Firmly, the woman by the meanie's side argues surprising me.
Smirking, I loom over a familiar horned woman, my eyes widening and giggling to find her having no hair, she's bald. Giggling, I hold in my snicker at the ugly haircut if you can call it that or a hairstyle, I mean why would you want to be bald? It looks silly like an egg! Snickering, I loom over Vivienne, my hands glowing as I focus smirking at the thin veil of blue enveloping her feature, stunning them.
"My mother is not a knife eared freak!" Angrily, I yell at the meanie startling her as she releases a gasp.
"Who on…!?" She begins standing up alongside the others. Quickly, I run out of there, smirking as she screams, her mask of ice frozen stuck on her.
"Vivienne!?" Concerned, the woman calls out to the woman.
"The cheese wheels, my mask is stuck to my face!?" Panicking, the woman screams as I laugh relishing the power of justice and karma as together, the blonde girl and I giggle, continuing our rampage of mayhem!
