Part 31

Caitlin woke with a groan. She hated hospital beds. They were not comfortable at all. She turned to see her mom sitting next to her bed reading.

"You really stayed all night mom?" asked Caitlin

"Of course. Caitlin, you are my daughter and I love you. I promise that I am going to be here for you and Crystal from now on." Said Carla

"Thanks mom."

There was a knock on the door and Henry poked his head in.

"Morning how you feeling Caitlin?" asked Henry

"Fine. Can I go home today?" asked Caitlin

"Are you sure you aren't a doctor? You act just like every doctor I have ever treated. Including one that wanted out of the hospital after just waking up from open heart surgery."

"I am not a doctor."

"Just checking. Well your oxygen level is nearly normal so I will take you off the oxygen. But you aren't leaving for a while. Though I did get some test results back last night. I need to go over them with you."

"I am going to go use the ladies room and find some coffee." Said Carla

Carla hugged Caitlin and headed out of the room.

"Is something wrong Henry?" asked Caitlin

"That is up to you. First you should know that I ordered tests for both HIV and STDs. All came back negative."

"That is good."

"Caitlin, I also had a pregnancy test done. It was as a precaution in case you needed medication."

"I understand. I was living with Richard and did have sex."

"Caitlin, you are pregnant."

"While I am not thrilled to be pregnant by that bastard. It is not the worst news on earth."

"That is true. Besides it is not like you will be doing this alone."

"No I won't. Your son is going to make sure of that."

"Is that going to be a problem? I could talk to him if you want."

"It is not a problem. In fact I need to talk to my lawyer but if he agrees I want to put his name down as the father of this baby."

"I am sure that he will agree. He loves you."

"I love him. He is the kind of man I want as the father of my children."

Henry smiled. He was really hoping that Barry and Caitlin worked out everything between them.

"Well I have to go. But after lunch I will be back and if everything looks good you can go home tomorrow morning."

"No chance in talking you into letting me go home tonight?"

"No chance."

"It was worth a try."

"See you later Caitlin."

Henry left as Barry walked in with Carla. Barry was carrying a tray with two coffees Carla was carrying her own cup from Jitters.

"So Cait do you get out of here today?" asked Barry

"Not until tomorrow morning at the earliest. Thank you for the coffee." Said Caitlin

"At least you no longer on oxygen." Said Carla

"Yeah. Mom go home tonight. I will be fine on my own." Said Caitlin

"You won't be alone. I will have my mom stay with Crystal and I will stay here tonight." Said Barry

"No Barry. I don't need you to stay with me."

"I want to. Cait, you told me that you want to rebuild what we had. So you aren't going to get rid of me that easily. My biggest mistake was not going after you when you left. You went to Charlie's that night right?"

"Yeah. He wouldn't have let you in."

"I would have sat outside the door until I convinced you to listen to me."

"Barry, there is something you need to know. Mom, you should here this too."

"What is it honey? Are you sick?" asked Carla

"I am completely healthy. Barry, I told you a bit about my relationship with Richard."

"Yeah. Did he do something that caused permanent damage to you?" asked Barry

"No. Nothing like that. But I am pregnant. Barry, I have to talk to my lawyer. She is a friend of Charlie's from law school. But if I can and you agree I want to name you as the baby's father." Said Caitlin

Barry smiled and leaned over and kissed Caitlin.

"Caitlin, of course I am. As far as I am concerned Carson is nothing but a DNA donor. That is not what makes a father. A father is there for a child weather they share blood or not. If you can't name me as father legally then do whatever you got to, to do to have his rights removed. Then I will adopt the child." Said Barry

"Barry, how did I get so lucky to have you in my life? To have you forgive me for running instead of fighting for what we had."

"Luck has nothing to do with it Cait. Some people are meant to be. I believe that there is some higher power that brought us back together. The universe wants us together."

"The universe cares about our love lives?"

"Why wouldn't it? I think it is time you start believing in us. In the family we are going to have."

"You know Caitlin, your father was never this sappy." Said Carla

"Barry maybe a love sick fool. But he is my love sick fool and I love him."

"I have always known that you were in love with Barry. Even before you realized it." Said Carla

"I didn't think you noticed anything about me." Said Caitlin

"Honey, I always noticed you. I am proud of the woman you have become. You are a much better mother then I was to either you or your brother." Said Carla

"Thanks mom. Barry any word on Richard?" asked Caitlin

"He has been seen at a bar in Keystone that is a front for the Bertinelli crime family. But he hasn't come close to the hospital." Said Barry

"Well even if he did he wouldn't get into my room Bare."

"I know. Those guys you use to tutor really feel they owe you."

"All I did was explain things in terms they could understand. Telling a football player that inertia means an object in motion stays in motion unless acted on by an outside force means nothing to them. But tell them that a thrown football will keep going unless it hits the ground or is caught is inertia they understand."

"Caitlin, you could have made a good teacher if you wanted to be." Said Carla

"Teaching didn't really interest me. I always wanted to help people."

"Just like your father. By the way who is this lawyer you are going to call? Couldn't Charlie help you?" asked Carla

"Her name is Laurel Lance. She lives in Star City. She went to law school with Charlie. She handled the will I made out a couple years ago. Charlie couldn't handle that because he is named as a trustee on the trust fund along with Barry I set up for Crystal."

"Crystal has a trust fund?" asked Barry

"Yeah. It is money my grandma Snow left me. I was her favorite grandchild. I mean she left Charlie money too. But she left me more. Nothing like you have though Barry. I think the trust fund has like a quarter of a million dollars in it right now. But other than for college it can't be touched until she is twenty five."

"Cait does anyone else know about the trust fund?" asked Barry

"Only the people in this room, Charlie and Laurel. I never told Richard about it. He would have found away to take control of it."

"Caitlin, you did the right thing with your inheritance." Said Carla

"Thanks mom."

"Cait, I am going to go and put in a couple hours at work. I will bring Crystal by after she gets out of school." Said Barry

"Ok. See you later. Stay safe."

Barry gave Caitlin a kiss and headed out. Carla just smiled thinking that within two years she would have a son in law.

Don't get mad at me for having Caitlin get pregnant by that jerk Richard. I have my reasons.
