Part 34

The night the Star Labs particle accelerator was to be turned on came. Barry and Caitlin were getting ready to head to it. Cisco having gotten them passes to enter the lab for the event. But Barry got called in to work a case. So Caitlin headed over to Star Labs on her own. No one had seen Richard Carson since Iris had been arrested. Nora was staying with Crystal while Henry was working the night shift. When Caitlin arrived at the security gate to Star Labs she showed the pass along with her driver's license. The guard nodded and checked her name off the list and told her to go in. She parked and smiled at seeing Cisco waiting at the door for her.

"No Barry?" asked Cisco

"No he got called in for a case. Patty would have gone in but she is sick with the flu as are all three of her kids. Eddie has to work so her mom is over there taking care of all of them."

"Too bad. I mean Patty is sick. I know Barry wanted to be here tonight."

"Yeah."

"Caitlin, um have you had any you know flare ups of your icy roommate trying to break free?"

"Not since I came home from the hospital."

Not nice to lie to your friend Caity. You know that it is only a matter of time before I will be strong enough to break free, and when I do Dick better watch out because I will teach him a lesson for what he did to you.

Cisco looked at Caitlin and could tell that something was on her mind. But he had known her long enough to know not to say anything.

"I'm taking you to the cortex. It is kind of the main hub of this place. Dr. Wells can't wait to meet you. He knew your dad or something." Said Cisco

"Um yeah he helped my dad with that treatment my mom and I told everyone about. I found that out in my dad's notes my mom gave me."

"Oh wow so if your icy roommate gets free he might get something frozen off?"

"Cisco, I have no idea what Frost will do. I mean sometimes I think I hear her thoughts. But I don't know for sure."

"Caitlin, you might not want to bring that up to people. They might think you are crazy."

"I am not crazy Cisco."

"I know that no need to get frosty with me!"

Caitlin rolled her eyes as they walked into what Cisco called the cortex.

"Ms. Snow it is nice that you could join us for this special night. Mr. Allen couldn't join you?" asked Harrison Wells

"Thank you for letting me come Dr. Wells. Unfortunately Barry got called in to work tonight. He wishes he was here rather then running whatever tests they need done tonight." Said Caitlin

"Yes but I understand that he is exactly where he needs to be tonight." Said Wells

Caitlin looked at Cisco feeling a little creeped out by Harrison Wells. Or maybe it was that she was picking up on something Frost was noticing and trying to break free to take care of him.

Barry had a tv on in his lab with the news coverage of the launch of the Star Labs particle accelerator. There were a number of protesters as wells a crowd of on lookers outside the gate of the building. He let out a sigh and turned back to the fingerprints he was analyzing. There was nothing he could do about the fact he was at work and not with the woman he loves at the scientific event of a lifetime. The storm clouds chose that moment to open up as they had been threatening to do most of the evening. Someone most likely Patty had left the skylight open. Went over to the chains and began to pull the cover shut when the power went out. He glanced out the window and saw a beam of light go up into the air from what looked like Star Labs. Before he could release the chains a bolt of lightning came through the skylight hitting him the force sending him into a shelf of chemicals and knocking him unconscious.

Ten minutes earlier

Caitlin was knocked from her feet as an explosion rocked the Star Labs building. She landed hard on the floor with Cisco falling on top of her. Cisco was quickly on his feet and looking at one of the monitors.

"Oh frack. The particle accelerator is malfunctioning. I can't shut it down from here." Said Cisco

One of the structural engineers took off for the pipeline with Cisco right behind him. Caitlin who had gotten to her feet followed them in case one of them got hurt. She got there just as Cisco closed the blast door sealing in the other man. Seconds later another blast rocked the building.

Jay watched from his lab window as the wave of what he could only guess was dark matter washed over Central City. He knew nothing good was going to come of that. From what he knew dark matter could potentially unleash a wave of new metahumans. From his experience he knew that was not a good thing. He had battled a number of metas that were out to harm or commit crimes in his time with the old JSA. He had also worked with a few. But this city was in no way prepared for an onslaught of new metahumans. He was getting to old to be chasing them down. Not to mention there was that unknown speedster still running around. Though he did remind him of the speedster in yellow that tried to kill his sister in law years ago. He turned when he heard the door open.

"Jay, Nora called. Barry and Caitlin are in the hospital. Barry was hit by lightning. Caitlin was at Star Labs. The particle accelerator exploded. She isn't hurt badly but is being checked over. Barry is alive but in a coma." Said his wife Joan

"I was afraid that something was going to go wrong with the particle accelerator. Star Labs built that thing less then a hundred feet underground. There is a reason that Cern built their Hydron collider nearly six hundred feet below ground. It is so if something like this happens it doesn't endanger a whole city. Joan, I have a bad feeling that we may get an onslaught of new metahumans from this."

"Jay, you are getting too old to go after them. Not to mention it could bring Injustice Society back into the open to hunt you down. Or they could go after Jesse."

"Don't you think I know that? I don't want anything to happen to our daughter. Nora must be going crazy. She is watching her granddaughter right?"

"Yes. Caitlin's brother can't come he and his wife are at the hospital themselves. She went into labor and is having twins."

"Well there are two sets in Erin's family if I remember right."

"There are, and Barry and Caitlin's friends aren't available to look after her. Carla is on her way to the hospital to be there for her daughter."

"Call Nora and tell her we will come over and stay with our grandniece."

"I thought you would say that. Let's go Flash."

Jay smile swept his wife into his arms and ran off.
